Dawn arrived quickly and Elizabeth rose from her bed to a world of white. The snow lay thick upon the city of Birch and the girl was thrilled. There was something magical about snow that brought the kid out in, most, people and Liz was certainly one of those people. The brunette ranger sprang out of bed, nearly dislodging Damara from her roost on the bed's footboard, and began digging through one of her baskets of clean clothes.
Cecylia had been curled up by Liz's pillow and felt the weight of the bed shift as Liz departed it's warm embrace. Raya was already up and doing her morning stretches in the living area. Ayla of course had to remain in the pokeball, the tropius was just too big for most indoor locations. Loki too had been confined as the ghost was fond of sending dark thoughts to them all whilst they dreamed. And young Pavel, the recently hatched tiny litten, was still sound asleep atop the dresser in Liz's room.
The room itself was rather small and a bit spartan, though this was largely due to Liz being a minimalist and her military training. A twin bed was shoved under the window that faced the back alley. A short dresser stood against the wall at the foot of the bed with a small mirror hanging above it. A desk lined the wall across from the bed and was littered with various training manuals and
The small apartment her father had purchased wasn't a bad little place, but it felt so cramped to what she was used to growing up. It was just the two bedrooms, with a shared full bathroom, a cramped kitchen and combined dining and living area. Of course with her dad out traveling Elizabeth, for the time being, pretty much had the place to herself. As her father had sold the farm to an old family friend, they hadn't gotten quite as much for it as it had been worth. Plus the expenses of moving across regions had eaten into any profit they'd received.
Thus her father had opted for the purchase of the small apartment in Birch instead of investing in another farm or house and put the rest of their money in savings. It wasn't like he planned to spend much time in the apartment anyway and had really gotten it only for Liz and to have a proper residence in Acriel. Liz knew her father was trying to avoid anything that might remind him of her mother, even her sadly, and a small apartment was a drastic change that definitely felt foreign to both of them.
However, Liz wasn't planning on being stuck here on her own. She'd been working in town and saving up for her own travels, plus getting to know the locals as she helped out with odd jobs. In addition to that she was focusing heavily on training the few pokemon she had with her. On the farm, Liz had gotten used to have her hundred plus pokemon with her at all times. Now while she waited for them to gradually clear customs she was intent on getting her current team strong enough to handle anything that might be thrown their way. Plus having her current team in peak condition would make it easier to bring the rest of her pokemon up to speed.
And today provided a great opportunity to train on a very different kind of battle field than her team was accustomed too. Liz made sure to bundle up, even with training it was better to have layers than to get frostbite. She added a pair of fleece leggings on under her usual cargo pants, pulled on a pair of thermal socks along with her heavy snow boots, then a thick gray hoodie over a long sleeve turtleneck with a black parka and matching pair of black snow gloves. She pulled the hood of the parka over her loose brown hair and grinned at her team, at these those currently conscious and not contained in their pokeballs.
"So, who wants to go train in the snow!" She asked enthusiastically. Raya smirked and nodded to herself, she was never opposed to training in any conditions. Cecylia flicked an ear to her trainer and gave a soft chuu of approval. Darama however gave a low hoot of protest, grass types and fliers had enough trouble in the snow and ice as it was, thus the dual type was really no fan of this climate. Pavel drowsily flicked on eye open and gazed at Liz with an indifferent expression. The tiny litten wasn't really interested, the cold didn't bother the fire type however the feline wasn't exactly inclined go to out romping around in the snow.
Liz chuckled noting the hesitation of some. "Yea, I suppose we'll let you, Damara, and Ayla sit this one out today, but we will need to work on your cold resistance at some point. Pavel, you can keep sleeping here if you want to too. I know Loki'll have a blast in the snow and Cecylia this'll be good for you, snow can really muffle things. Raya, I've actually been looking over a few manuals here regarding a couple moves I think would be good for you to know."
She explained while she gathered up the manuals and dumped them into her pack. Raya was currently her strongest team member and she relied pretty heavily on the lucario. And as one who believed in being prepared, once again thanks to her military training, she liked her pokemon to know a variety of different attacks they could use against pokemon that would generally be considered having an advantage. It was also a good way to surprise trainers and set them off balance when you threw out a pokemon that would normally be thought of as weaker then hit them hard with a super effective move.
Liz gathered the rest of her things, including strapping her combat knife to her belt, she never went anywhere without her knife, as you never know a knife might come in handy. Back home she'd almost always carried a handgun as well but as such weapons were not permitted here for in Arciel she'd had to forgo that habit. True, pokemon were generally a weapon in and of themselves, but it was nice knowing you could help out if things went beyond a pokemon battle. Though, again, that was a military mindset, and Liz was just a ranger now, thus it wouldn't hurt for her to relax things a bit.
