Cin Mangala
Age 27 Birthday March, 03, 1991 Gender Male Pronouns He/him/his Orientation Flexible Faction League Class Ranger Rank Coffee Gopher Occupation Ranger Hometown Laverre Town, Kalos Current Residence "Traveling," i.e. ducking | [ Ranger Mangala and Captain [redacted] enter. ] Captain: Copy. Alright; I have him here. Mangala: No oral board? Captain: Nope. And Mr. Mangala, do you give consent to be recorded? Mangala: Well you already started– absolutely. Captain: Alright, then please state your full name and position. Mangala: Cin Cereé Mangala; Private, Frost Squadron. Captain: In brief, could you describe your previous experiences as a ranger? Mangala: I, uh, in– brief, I patrolled the Mamoswine Road and the area north of Dendemille for three years, and then I spent a fourth stationed in Lumiose. I was one of the rangers responsible for apprehending the Piloswine poachers in Frost Cavern. I actually have my career highlights here if you’d… Captain: Okay. I think your description works for the time being. Mangala: Ah-llright. That works. Captain: In the meantime, tell us a little about yourself. How would you describe your character? Mangala: Well, I’m relatively amiable. I’m outgoing; I like to listen to and engage with others. I like to be encouraging within a group dynamic, help others who might not be doing too hot; be democratic. I would say I thrive in a group dynamic, as well, or that I work best when following a “military” lifestyle, for lack of a better term– Captain: “Military?” Mangala: A routine. I work best following a laid-out, straightforward routine. And I’ve been told I have a relaxing presence and a winning smile. Captain: Why do you serve?1 Mangala: To help others. And the routine is– Captain: Not “military,” right? Mangala: No, no! Ah-ha-ha! I just, I would say it’s a way of life, one that gives its structure and meaning and stability. (Until you get transferred again.) Captain: Why are you interested in transferring to Arciel as opposed to resuming service in Kalos? Mangala: I heard “from a bird” you guys could use some extra hands out here. And on a personal level, I would consider working out here to be a breath of fresh air. Look, I’ve lived in Kalos my whole life, and I absolutely adore it, but the stereotype of Kalis people being kind of… strict? Dare I say pretentious? It’s not all of us, absolutely not, but being here in Arch-y– Arsee– this beautiful, modernized region, I’m seeing a huge difference in the mindset. People are very open-minded and accepting here, and I’d like to be around that. Captain: I’ve actually never heard of that Kalis stereotype. It’s a shame people still stereotype nowadays at all, if you ask me. Not to impress my own experiences on you– Mangala: No, I… You haven’t? That’s interesting. Knew this place was special. In a good way! Captain: Right! And open-mindedness is never a bad trait. What do you consider your best attributes? Physical, mental, social; anything. Mangala: Ah! Well, I’m fit; I’m social; I have a good head on my shoulders. But I think my best attribute is my ambition. Working hard to better myself in all areas and to strive past where I am is how I’ve been able to maintain a clean career so far as a ranger. Honestly, it don’t mean much if I’m not the best at something! Captain: What would you consider your worst attributes? Mangala: I can admit: ambition is a double-edged sword. I can get myopic sometimes, a little too focused on getting the gold. I don’t think it prevents me from stepping on other people necessarily; I’m always group-oriented. I guess when I see nobody striving for something, I make it vocal– I want everyone to strive equally. And that can be interpreted in different ways. Captain: It’s always important to distinguish equity from equality. Mangala: You’re absolutely right. It’s something I have to work on. Captain: Everyone’s got something. What was your childhood like, Ranger? How was school? Mangala: Pretty good, for the most part. I grew up in Laverre which I can say definitely rubbed off on me. Good ol’ “Dream City.” Captain: I’m unfamiliar. What’s it like? Mangala: Oh, it’s… “hippy,” colloquially-speaking. Lots of art-lovers, spiritualists, and I don’t think we call them “witches” anymore – people who train Ghost-, Psychic-, and Fairy-types. Most people living there had for a long time so there was a lot of “old money,” my family included. But I saw a lot of Pokemon showcases growing up, thrifted old records, biked everywhere… I think, growing up, I really wanted to be a traveling photographer for a bit, but Mam put a stop to that real quick. No way I was carrying on my father’s legacy as an artist, and she always said it was a sneer like that. So I went to a tiny private college in Laverre for four years where I actually minored in photography anyway, just to spite her – obviously majored in, like, law – and then it was off to ranger academy, no arguing. Captain: So your relationship with your family… Mangala: I mean, I love my mom. She came to Kalos with infant me and the clothes on her back and she remains one of the very few people who absolutely terrify me. But, yeah: there’s always been kind of a pressure. My birth father died before I was born, and she remarried and moved to Laverre to live with him before they divorced. She wanted to keep her first husband alive, and I was “the one” she saw that spark of his in, so. Captain: Ah. You have anything you like to do for fun, then? Still taking photos? Mangala: Oh, it’s off-and-on. I still have my camera, though! First big purchase I ever made! Captain: Ah, man. Is it one of those Sketchit-brand–? Mangala: Yeah, he’s beautiful. It’s actually the kind meant for field researchers, like “Poke-thologists,” or whatever. I would geek out about the settings, but we’d be in here for another day– you’d have to call me back! Captain: Ha! Any other hobbies, aside from camera-geeking? Mangala: May-be a few… Running I’ve been doing regularly since ranger academy. Cooking I just started. I just got so sick of ramen. Just kidding, my roommate broke my microwave. I was also following some trainer stuff, like move-technique-learning business, more for fun than anything. And honestly, fashion? To an extent, y’know. And... let’s call that it. Captain: Last thing a dirty secret? Mangala: Call... that... it. Captain: Surely hope it isn’t romance-related. Mangala: Is that the next question? (Professional.) Uh, I’m not seeing anyone at the moment, if that’s what you wanna know. I committed the crime of roomcest in ranger academy and she dumped me for eating her leftovers. Captain: Jeez! Mangala: If you have to know! Captain: Well, let’s move on to a lighter subject. What are your goals for the future? Short-term and long-term. And that’s outside of your job as a ranger. Mangala: I… outside of being a ranger? Okay, again if you have to know, I’m looking into the arts again. Captain: Not for photography? Mangala: Nope. For… cooooordinating. Captain: Really? Mangala: No, I’m joking. Captain: Heh, I’d like to see you try. Honestly! Mangala: Yeah. Ha-ha. Captain: That’s a lot of money for the dress you need! Speaking of, has the contest season even started, you think? They might not be streaming them anymore, at least the entry-level ones. Mangala: ...why’s ‘at? Captain: Guess lack of interest. People are starting to wise up to how long an “idol’s” career lasts in the long run, anyway. Mangala: Oh. Well that’s– Captain: A shame, yeah. Imagine how those little girls must feel working their pom-pom asses off, probably more than trainers do, just to end up with a couple ribbons and maybe an interview near the end of a tween’s magazine, like, “If you could be any Pokemon, what would you be?” Mangala: A tragedy. Captain: Ha-ha-ha! I should’ve laugh; it’s cruel. It's capitalism at its finest. But before we get too off-target, here: to evaluate which you'd work beset with, what Pokemon would you most relate with, Mr. Mangala? Can be on basis of anything; typing, species... Mangala: ...a... fire-breathing… dragon. A Charizard. Captain: Good choice! And what do Pokemon mean to you? Mangala: Mean a lot more than people. Captain: Anything else you want to let us know? Mangala: Nope. Captain: Alright, then that ends the interview. I’ll contact the commander soon as I can and we’ll forward you the next steps. Good luck out there, Charizard! [ Mangala exits. ] |
Appearance
Height 6'02" / 188cm Build Lean; built Hair Color Brown Eye Color Brown | Visibly active and so well-dressed it’s a crime. Ignoring Cin’s soft jawline are hard features and visible definition from training. His posture is likewise careful and his inherently soft voice slips in and out as he mutters comebacks to orders. Catch Cin on an off-day and you may not recognize the slouching, snarky bastard from the tryhard private mask he desperately dons. For years, Cin’s favorite fun fact about himself was his diagnosed tone-deafness, or amusia, after a horrific “phase” of attempting choir-singing. But after reassessing the coordination scene, it hits a little different. Aura Like gas; near-translucent-silver, it pools around him blood in water. Get too close and an aura-reader will feel a cloying sensation in their throat like an illustrative perfume trying its damnedest to obscure its user. |

Pressured into being a Pokemon Ranger by his suffocating mother and unforgiving half-siblings, then bullied this way and that in the frozen-over Kalis north for years of his life, the young man has decided the only solution is to abandon his home region altogether. Arriving in the “backwards” region of Arciel, he rediscovers the same energy he had for showcases as a child. Now, Cin is determined to shirk as much ranger work as possible to achieve his long-suppressed dream-- that is, before realizing how truly torn he is between his passions. Cin is joined in foreign lands by his field partner, Didi, while leaving previous “slackers” behind at his family’s estate. He tends to like working one-on-one with Pokemon to bring out their potential, so his new Arciel starter may, to his chagrin, rough up the routine. art by @saibhanchiffon Pokemon
