Ah Bass City, the third largest city and home to the Bass City Water Gym. The city had a very different feel from Birch. While Birch was actual larger, it seemed much calmer and quieter than Bass. Noise, bright lights, everything that one could think of to distract themselves was here in Bass. For now though Elizabeth and co were still getting settled in at the pokemon center.

The ranger had happily accepted the her newly arrived pokemon from import and was downright thrilled that Tansy had been included in this batch of customs cleared pokemon. It had been too long since the ranger had been with her dearest pokemon. The girl immediately released the rather overgrown venusaur and instantly threw her arms around the big poisonous grass type.

"Oh Tans, damn, I've missed you so much girl. You doing okay?" The brunette asked with concern knowing how much the venusaur hated being cooped up. Tansy leaned into the girl, the venusaur's head alone as large as the ranger's torso, and let out a contented sigh.

"Saauuur." Tansy murmured and nuzzled the ranger. Liz chuckled and nodded. Though the poisonous grass type didn't communicate in words, the ranger had little trouble understanding her oldest partner.

"Me too Tans." The girl sighed then stood as she selected the remaining members of her team for the day. Raya naturally, next to Tansy she was pretty much a permanent travel companion. The ranger also retrieved Levin, Chani, Cecylia and another new import, Shyam.

Raya pinned her ears back and crossed her arms giving Liz a soured look that obviously screamed, 'The hell you bringing him for?' "Luc... cario." She muttered in disgust. Liz sighed and gave Raya a sideways glance.

"Look I know he's a pain and not exactly trustworthy, but if I don't keep working with him he'll never change. It has been a few years now Raya, and he's gotten better, you know that." The girl explained though Raya's annoyance could still be felt coming off in waves from the steel jackal. Cecylia too was rather concerned about having the tricksy zoroark with them, but she trusted Liz. The pikachu patted the girl's head supportively. "Pi ka chu."

Even Tanys grumbled a little, and the venusaur liked everybody, and looked to Liz for reassurance. Of all the ranger's pokemon, Shyam was the only one who'd ever really been outright vicious toward Liz. The zoroark had a sordid history with the trainer and her team. When captured on the field of battle as a sort of prisoner of war, Shyam had been completely resistant to being under the trainer's command.

Though of course that was a little over five years ago. It had taken at least two years to get the zoroark to at least stop attacking the ranger and begrudgingly listen to her. Even then he still pretty much did as he pleased. It wasn't surprising some of her closest companions were still a little resentful of him.

The ranger released Levin and Chani first, just on the off chance the zoroark did attempt anything untoward. Then she released the purple dark fox as well. The other biped pokemon around her all shot him varying dirty looks though Liz just rolled her eyes.

"Guys, relax. Shy, it's good to see you again." The girl stated solemnly to the dark fox. Shyam scowled and crossed his arms over his chest as he returned the look the others gave him. Rapidly his appearance suddenly changed the now an almost mirror image of Liz stood before them, though in a more masculine form. The ranger raised a brow, this was a common guise the zoroark liked to assume presumably to annoy her.

"Hmph. Took you long enough." The illusion's lips moved and the audible words resonated from the zoroark. Liz sighed and shook her head. From Shyam that was almost pleasant. Raya growled a little though Levin placed a gentle hand on the lucario's shoulder.

"I do not believe Lady Liz would appreciate you picking a fight with the dark one, Lady Raya." The psychic fighter cautioned his teammate. Raya narrowed her eyes at the gallade but huffed and gave a sharp nod in understanding.

Their attention was suddenly drawn to that of a nurse at the counter waving them over. "Miss! Excuse me but you're a League ranger correct?" The nurse inquired as Liz and the rest approached. The girl nodded looking curious. "That's right Nurse Joy. Is there something you need?" Liz inquired as the pink haired nurse passed her a note. "We were asked to pass these out to any league associated rangers, trainers and otherwise. It seems they need help with security down at city hall. You look like a capable sort perhaps you could go and assist?"

Liz opened the note and scanned it quickly. She raised a brow then looked at the others. "Well we're not in too big a rush to get to the water gym so why not? Should provide some good experience for everyone." The girl responded with a nod. The nurse grinned happily and picked up the phone. "I'll go ahead and give them a call to let them know you're on the way!"

The ranger nodded and gathered her things. "Well then guys looks like we get to play security today." Liz stated as she made her way to the door. Once outside she hopped atop Tansy's back and let the venusaur lumber down the street toward City Hall. Upon arrival the girl approached the entrance, with all her pokemon in tow, looking to report to the head of security.

No sooner had you gotten on the scene that a rather loud commotion erupts from outside. It seems some reporters had gotten through and are causing quite a ruckus! A swarm of reporters even seems to have trampled some of the other security guards. Yikes!

The group could hear all the commotion going on as soon as they reached the perimeter of the building. When they could see what had transpired, Liz looked from Raya to Levin. "Well guess we're not wasting any time. Can you two go help the guards up and make sure they're okay? The ranger instructed pointing to the fallen security guards. Her focus turned quickly to Chani and Tansy. "Chani, use Agility and see if you can round some of those reporters up. Tans use Vine Whip to block their path and drag any stragglers back to the exit if you have to."

The others nodded and quickly set out to do as asked. However Liz could hear snickering behind her as Raya and Levin left her side to aide the fallen guards and Chani had zipped inside to head off the pack of reporters, assisted by Tansy's vines which were working overtime to block off chase reporters back to the entrance. The ranger crossed her arms and rolled her eyes a little as she turned to the disguised zoroark.

"You have something to say?" She inquired telepathically eyeing the zoroark. He just stared at her with a devilish grin not responding. Liz knew dark types were resistant to psychic abilities like telepathy but they could certainly allow one's thoughts to enter their minds if they so desired. However Shyam wasn't exactly the willing sort, but she knew he hated being left out of the loop and she knew he was more than happy to eavesdrop on her other psychics. As much as the zoroark might want to, he likely wasn't going to actively shut the ranger out. Plus he'd already betrayed he'd heard her communication to the other four if he was intending to mock her decisions.

Liz narrowed her eyes still holding the dark fox's gaze. He sneered then rolled his own eyes. "Hmph. Fine. But you're doing an absolute terrible job already." Shyam wore a smug look eyeing the ranger. Now with all other pokemon Liz could sense their emotional state but of course dark types were like a blank void. It was rather freaky really. Shyam could allow telepathic thoughts into his mind if he wanted but that was the only thing that got through.

The brunette glanced at the others to see how they were faring then turned her attention back to the dark fox. "And I'm betting you have a better idea?" She raised a brow. Now of course Liz had considered utilizing the zoroark, but rarely did he actually do anything she asked of him. It was always better to let him come up with his own ideas if she actually wanted to get any use out of him. Shyam curled his illusion's lip as he smirked.

"Come on, you know I do and you had it too." He stated with a self satisfied look. The ranger pursed her lips and narrowed her eyes. "Well then, you going to do it or not? I don't really have time for your games Shy." A bit of irritation crept into her thoughts which only caused the fox to grin.

"But of course, you just had to ask." He gave a mock bow then his illusion began to change. Now of course Liz had had the one idea of how to use the illusions to create a distraction, and while this was also Shyam's idea, his particular illusion of choice was not what Liz at all had in mind. Suddenly a Stakataka appeared in front of them plain for all to see with the hope that a random ultra beast standing in downtown Bass ought to definitely catch some attention.

The ranger however covered her face with her palm and rubbed her eyes. "Seriously? This is what you come up with? We're so getting fired." She sighed just hoping this worked and didn't get them into serious trouble.

It seemed the Illusion trick worked! The reporters are running for the hills! The other security guards appear to be unharmed in the chaos aside from a few minor cuts and bruises thankfully and work to apprehend the culprits. Some of the reporters even turn on their coworkers out of fear of the ultra beast and are literally shoving them at guards. Well... this is an exciting turn of events.

Well okay then, that had actually worked kinda, at least to scatter the reporters anyway. Now of course they were all in a dizzying panic which the girl suspected the zoroark had wanted. The ranger sighed and glared at the purple fox in irritation.

"Would you please choose something else? Something that'll make them want to come to you?" Liz communicated with annoyance to the dark fox who she could hear snickering nearby. The girl turned back to the crowd, it seemed the best thing to do was try to keep them from getting back indoors. She looked to Tansy and nodded. "Might as well throw some of your bulk around girl."

The ranger suggested as the venusaur began brazenly pushing her way through whomever was in the path between herself and the entrance with Liz following along behind her and in an authoritative tone telling nearby reporters to get get lost. Chani, Raya and Levin were also helping with crowd control by taking up positions along the building and blocking any potential gap to the entrance one might attempt to slip through.

Fortunately it seemed Shyam had had his fun and decided the noise from the panic was becoming tiresome. The stakataka began to melt away and in its place a Jirachi appeared. The adorable wish pokemon flitted around alluringly and waved to the reporters. It almost seemed as if the star like mythical pokemon had appeared and chased the evil ultra beast off. Hopefully that would at least calm the more panicked of the crowd and, with any luck, lure them away from the building.

As the Jirachi appeared, the journalist's panic dies down and they follow after Jirachi as if he was the Pied Piper. Would they be granted wishes? Well, at least the journalists could be arrested and carted away now.

"See now why couldn't you just do that the first time?" The ranger inquired with a roll of her eyes. The zoroark snickered and the image of the jirachi up and vanished once the guards were able to begin cuffing or zip tying the rowdy reporters.

Liz instructed Tansy to continue keeping guard over the entrance but sent Raya, Levin and Chani to any other exterior side or back entrance. The trio didn't much like the thought of having such a distance between them but Liz reassured them she'd be fine and, after all, she still had Tansy and Cecylia with her. Shyam of course being the reason they didn't like being so far out from the ranger.

Cecylia had been perched on Liz's shoulder keep an ear on things, listening for any other potential issues over the roar of the crowd. Though, so far, the pikachu hadn't picked up anything beyond the commotion going on at the main entrance. Shyam had reverted back to his human illusion and rejoined the ranger with arms crossed and a smug, self satisfied grin on his illuison's face. Liz shook her head, the dark fox was always so full of himself.

"Well good job in the end there." The ranger added not one to not give praise where praise was due, even if the zoroark was fully expecting it. Liz sighed and turned to find the head of security once more, hopefully now able to get a proper assignment or find out how she could be of better assistance, assuming everything was in hand here now.

The head of security is in a foul mood to say the leasts of things. It seems that some of the journalists had slipped through the cracks and disturbed the meeting! Now it's your job to try and calm down the important individuals and capture the rogue journalists.

Well now that was just perfect. Seems there had been a breach and now she had to clean things up, as usual. Well since the other three were checking side entrances she might as well send them on in to sweep the building for the stragglers. Their distance made it more difficult to communicate but so long as Liz limited it to one at a time she didn't have too much trouble relaying her instructions.

"Okay, if you find an open back or side entrance, head on in and look for any journalist who don't belong. They'll likely be bothering the employees, entering restricted areas, and other such disruptive behavior. The employees likely have badges so you should be able to tell who's who. Detain them and wait for security to come and round them up."

Once her instructions were relayed the young woman looked to the three still with her. Tans was a little big to go inside thus she'd have to remain out here for now and play door guard. Shyam, if feeling generous, could be useful in calming down the VIPs but it was more likely he'd rather see them even more annoyed. Cecylia of course would go with Liz wherever she was.

"Tans keep an eye on things here okay? I guess we're going to have to go in and see what kind of mess we're dealing with." She glanced at Shy who simply smirked at her.

"Well? Lead the way." He stated, a mischievous gleam shining even through his illuison's eyes. The ranger turned and headed inside moving swiftly through the building. She made her way toward the meeting room where 'very important business' was obviously dealt with. Here seemed to be the epicenter of all the problems. As soon as they saw her the VIPs immediately began complaining about the intrusion and demanding it be dealt with. A couple said intruders where still present and furiously scribbling down everything they could about the encounter.

"Excuse me, ladies and gentlemen. Please stay clam. The security team is dealing with the interruption as best they can. I'm Ranger Waters and I and my pokemon are assisting in clearing the rogue journalists from the building as we speak. If you could please return to your seats, perhaps have some coffee and try to relax we'll have everything cleared up in no time."

Behind her Shyam had discreetly changed his illusion to that of Zekrom the legendary pokemon and stood looming over Liz and Cecylia. He sneered at the group, silently cackling to himself. Liz was unaware of what the zoroark was up to though Cecylia was peering back at him and shooting him dirty glares whilst chittering in irritation. Before the ranger could realize what the dark fox was doing, Levin, Chani and Raya had finished their quick sweep of the building and were herding a couple of detained journalists their way. Seems security had yet to reach their prior locations.

"Ah good, here's my team now. It seems we've managed to round up a few stragglers. Do you guys think that's everyone?" She inquired of her team though it was uncertain if that was the last of the wandering reporters or not. Raya however noticed Shyam's current form and with a scowl marched over to give the dark fox a good kick, causing the illusion to ripple and fade. Liz blinked and glanced back at both canines with a raised brow though Raya simply shook her head at the ranger. The young woman sighed and massaged the bridge of her nose, more than ready to be done with this assignment already.

It seems all's well that ends well right? Elizabeth helped the security team tie up loose ends and escort the wayward journalists out of the building. The Bass City police ought to be around the pick them up shortly. It looked like things were finally calming down, despite a certain fox's efforts. Perhaps not the most interesting job but definitely one that kept her on her toes. And while she'd never admit it, she'd sort've enjoyed having Shy around again. The fox might be a pain but at least he was an interesting one.

The ranger went to check with the head of security and see if there was anything more required of her and her team. For now everything seemed quiet and the very important meeting had been able to get back underway. Liz had no idea what they could possibly be meeting about that had the journalists in such an uproar but hey she'd done her job and she and her team could go home satisfied with a job well done. Now she and her team could better focus on tackling the water gym and seeing what else Bass City had to offer.
