[attr="class","curragepost"] Okay, so a hotel lobby wasn't the ideal place to have a gig, but technically it was live entertainment for BACC, the annual Bass Anime & Cosplay Convention, and that was pretty cool, right? Callie had thought it would be good for them when she signed the girls up anyway, even if it turned out only Ara and Elise could make it that weekend. Still, with music recordings to fill in, two live idols were better than nothing! And sure, it was long hours, especially considering people didn't exactly come to see PNG, but rather happened to wander in and out of the lobby where they were playing and maybe stay for a song or two before moving on. But that was great exposure to help them start brand building, and they were getting paid, too, if not a whole lot. Still? Still!!
Callie was sure the girls were exhausted by the time everything wound down around 11, and most of the con patrons started being shuffled off to their rooms by the hotel staff. She was tired herself, and all she'd been doing was ensuring the night had gone smoothly, selling a little bit of merch, and running errands for drinks and stuff for the other girls. She could only imagine how they felt, singing and dancing for hours. Then again, one or both of them could still be hyped on adrenaline for all she knew, heh. Still, she was eager to get home--
...or would have been, if the roads hadn't iced over in the past few hours. Several feet of snow had fallen as well. They could probably still get a cab, but they were on the complete opposite side of the city from home, and the danger didn't seem worth it when they were literally in a hotel.
The problem then became, "Only one room?? Really?" Callie was stunned. But this place was huge?
"Well, yes," said the concierge. "We're completely booked for the convention. You're lucky someone didn't show up or we'd have nothing." AAAAAAAAAAAAA????
"Uuuuummm... I guess if it's the only option..." She was a little unsure, but then smiled sweetly at Ara and Elise. "I mean, it'll be kinda like a sleepover, right?"
"Are you sure?" the concierge asked. "You still might be able to get a room a few blocks away, though I know the weather's pretty nasty..." Callie gave her a questioning look. "Well it's just, it's a one-bed room. It might be a tight squeeze for all three of you?"
Oh. Oh??? Ohhh... Oh God. Callie was already panicking, and looked to Elise and Ara to see what they thought.
Elise was, in her own words, exhausted but chipper. They’d done well! Everything had gone smoothly for the most part, and she felt confident they’d made a great impression! Even if her throat was sore and her muscles were twitchy, she was proud! And that pride kept her pumped!!! AAAAAAA!!!!
So there she was swinging her arms a little listening to the situation as it was. She’d already texted her dad about it, and he’d already given the fatherly advice of ‘stay put’ followed directly by ‘I’ll come pick you up in the morning’. So she’d already resolved to stay put. “A sleepover’d be great!” she giggled immediately before the explanation of the bed situation right after.
Only one bed? “That shouldn’t be a problem!” she answered. “I’ve squeezed into smaller beds plenty of times with my sisters!” And she had… entirely too many times as Dad had tried to find the cheapest options when they did travel to see Mom’s concerts live. “This’ll be great! We can stay up late building pillow forts and watching moves! And we can even order room service, right?” She grinned. “Let’s do it!”
It had been a long day, countless hours of signing, dancing, and trying to entertain a crowd that frankly Arietta was slightly unfamiliar with, but it was a welcome couple of hours where thinking about PNG is all that was on her mind. Having done sports since she was young, she was all too familiar with fatigue and muscle aches, and so as they ventured down the hotel lobby she'd stretched her arms above her head, a soft sigh of relief leaivng her at the slight crack in her bones- she couldn't wait to just... chill out- maybe they had ice cream here?!
Of course, they were met with the one room left situation, and the possibility of having to share a bed. Arietta couldn't help but giggle slightly, one bed was fine! There was a nod following Elise's explanation, as she moved to push a hand through her hair, "Yessss! It'd be just like when we were kids too- all night slumber parties, Arceus I miss those... binging cheesy rom-coms and stuff- but i'm only in if we can have late night pancakes!"
And pillow forts... how did you make those again? What was the usual deal for sleepovers and sharing a bed? Head to toe formation? Sidewards? Well- it didn't matter! "Like- I don't mind sharing a bed- if we really have to we can always use separate blankets but it probably won't be as warm..." Arietta's gaze turned to Calliope then, and she smiled in turn, "It's not worth the risk of having to go to the next hotel down anyway, y'know?"
[attr="class","curragepost"] Elise piped up with some cute ideas and affirmation, and Ara readily agreed with her. Calliope laughed nervously along with them. Of course the others were fine with it. To them it was just a sleepover with friends. They didn't know that to Callie it was sleeping next to two crushes. Oh, sweet Arceus, what did she do to deserve this?
"Sounds like we're in, then..." she reluctantly told the concierge. A last bit of hope sprung to mind, and Callie asked, "Do you have any extra cots we could order?"
But the woman shook her head. "Sorry. People are piling up for the con, so we ran out a few hours ago." Darn it!! Callie's lips pursed in frustration. The concierge did look awfully sympathetic though. "...Hey, you know what I can do?" she asked. "The guy who didn't show up paid in advance, so how about I just let you guys slip in for free since you provided the entertainment all night?"
That did have Callie perking up. "Really?"
She nodded. "You'll still have to pay for any food you order through room service and whatnot, but at least the room will be on the house."
"That's awesome! Thank you!" The concierge got them checked in and handed each girl her own room key card. Callie thanked her again, and they were off. "Let's see... Second floor, and... should be this hall." Please oh please be a king--
She opened the door to find a queen size bed. DARNIT. Better than a full, she guessed, but... Hhhhhh... Well, at least they wouldn't be going to bed immediately. With any luck, they'd get so tired goofing off that they'd pass out immediately, and Callie wouldn't have to worry about the awkwardness of trying to fall asleep. ...There was still the potential awkwardness in the morning, but she'd cross that bridge when she came to it.
Callie plopped down on the bed next to the bedside table with the phone. "Okay! So pancakes, right? And how many extra pillows do you think we need for forts?" she asked Elise.
...A new problem occurred even as she awaited an answer: They'd planned to go home after the con, so they didn't have spare clothes, and their idol clothes would be awfully uncomfortable to sleep in. ...Hopefully the others just... wouldn't think about it, and would pass out in them okay.
Ohgosh! Late night pancakes sounded great! Elise’s eyes practically turned to stars on thinking of them. How long had it been since she’d had those? It didn’t matter! Blueberry ones sounded amazing right then! Maybe she was… also just kind of hungry in general, oops ehehehehe. Her eyes bounced around as she searched for the hotel menu. Hmmmmmm…..
Oh, she should probably be paying attention. Free??? “Awesome!” she beamed looking from Callie to Ari and back again. They could spend the extra money on food or movies or any number of things! Once she had her own room key, Elise shouldered her keyboard case and travel bag and started after Callie.
Walking into the room, Elise immediately started flicking on lights. “Ooooh this is super pretty!” she squeaked her eyes flashing across the soft blue of the accent wall to the opaque other walls. She immediately turned on her heels again as Callie started speaking. “Hmmmm at least fifteen….” she nodded sagely judging from the four on the bed. On a whim, she immediately leapt on the bed and flopped there before rolling over and giggling.
A free room was always a bonus! Arietta couldn't help but grin as Callie led the way, pocketing her own key as they were exposed to a lovely, queen-sized hotel room- big enough that she was sure they'd all have a blast! Arietta herself began surveying it, though very quickly situated herself by the television, grabbing the hotel's TV and Movie guide to see just what they had to offer- she wanted the cheesiest of the cheese that would resolve the girls into bubbly giggles in seconds! Only the best for PNG!
She almost didn't caught what was said by Callie, at least... until pancakes were mentioned. Her head snapped to look over her shoulder, "Make sure with the pancakes you order them to be extra sugary- or to... at least have sugar on the side!" Arietta was weak to really, really sugary pancakes... it was almost like a guilty pleasure of hers, and she could devour it in seconds.
Noticing Ellie rolling on the bed, a small string of giggles left her lips. She was full of so much energy! Ara, after a beat, backed herself up to plop on the edge of the bed, glancing once more at the guide before offering it to the girls, "There's like... a whole bunch of cheesey stuff in here, take your picks!" another pause, as she catalogued the slight ache in her shoulders, "Oh!...Do you reckon they have towels? Like, my body aches from all the performing, I might have a quick one before room service comes."
[attr="class","curragepost"] Fifteen? ON top of the... four? Or was it six? the room already had? Hm, well okay, Elise seemed pretty sure! "Okay!" Callie nodded, only to let out a small yelp as Elise flopped down on the bed, causing Callie to bounce a bit where she sat. The giggles were infectious, though, especially as Ara joined in, too. Laughing along with them did help ease Callie's nerves, too, if only a little.
"But all right, so fifteen pillows and... Do you mean powdered sugar?" she asked Ara. Granulated table sugar sounded gross to just glob on. "I'm gonna go with that, it sounds better." She would quickly pick up the phone and dial room service, placing their order while Ara flipped through the tv guide.
Once she was done, Ara asked about... towels? "I mean yeah of course. What kind of hotel wouldn't?" Then again, the room wasn't exactly set up planning for three people, so maybe uh... "Check how many there are when you're in there, though. We can always order more if there's not enough for all of us."
Extra sugary? Elise pulled her face up from the bed briefly. “Sugar on the side!” she chimed in. It wasn’t that she minded sugar, really, but she preferred well… syrup to powdered sugar, and she already guessed that was coming with.
Peering over Ara’s shoulder, Elise scanned over the various programs and shows available to watch. Oh! She’d seen that one and that one and that one— That one was good! And oh maybe they could watch that one? But she’d seen it before and might ruin the ending uh…. huh…. She’d take the catalogue if Ara moved to get up and inspect the bathroom but would otherwise be fine with peering over in the meantime.
“Hey look! The new Detective Pikachu follow-up short is out!” she pointed out with a small happy squeak. Granted she couldn’t remember among the myriad of things titles she was personally interested in which of those she shared with Callie and Ara specifically. Oh, she kind of wanted popcorn now too, but pancakes were so heavy already. Oh well!
Does she mean powdered sugar? Uh... usually she just has regular sugar on it, call it a force of habit from when she was young that never... really left. "Uh- yeah powdered sugar should be okay, as long as there's a heap!" the girl continued browsing movies for a few more moments, gaze piercing over classics like 27 dresses... she's the man... Yeah maybe she had a problem with adoring literally any movie that features romance, but it's not her fault! It was just so fun to watch on the screens!
Her gaze broke from it as she got up to check in the bathroom, handing the guide over to Elise so she could take stock of just what was for offer! Riiiight... a quick spin and she counted three towels hanging up, and an extra forth one under the sink! That should be enough, right? As she did a double-check Elise's voice carried out and she poked her head out from the bathroom, "Detective Pikachu short? I mean... it's not cheesy romance..." A pause, and then a grin, "But if it's just a short, then it's something cute to watch!"
One last head check of the bathroom before the girl waltz back out, leaning against the wall, "Sooo we have... four towels- three should be enough for one each, but like we might want extra if somebody wants to wash their hair?"
[attr="class","curragepost"] Hm. HMMMM... Callie squinted at the tv guide as if it would change the options. There were so many good ones and so many she hadn't seen. Should they go with a classic even though they already knew it, or take the risk for a new experience? But what if it ended up being no good? If it was the right kind of bad maybe they could still giggle at it... but what if she and/or Elise thought it was bad and Ara still loved it? She might get her feelings hurt! She did love anything romantic no matter how silly it was. Oh, what a dilemma!
As Ara came back with the towel count, Callie was thankfully snapped out of her reverie for the moment. "Oh! Uh, yeah that's fine. I don't really need to wash my hair tonight. If we end up needing one or two more though we can always order later." She nodded, almost sagely. "And hey, if you're not feeling the Pikachu short, Elise and I could always watch it while you shower, and then we can discuss other movie options after?"
“Looks like it’s… thirty five minutes?” Elise commented reading the small summary blurb followed by the time information. That really wasn’t too long and could definitely be cute and detective shows could be romantic even if she didn’t think this one was supposed to be but!!!
“Towels?” The thought cut in and she blinked a couple of times before recalling what Ari meant. “Oh!” She reached up briefly to feel through her hair and frowned a little before nodding. Yeah, she probably needed to wash it before the oil built up and made her hair flat. It was already flat enough in these kinds of winters. “I may just blow my hair dry though…” she registered out loud. That kind of poofed it up a little bit more than usual and didn’t require hair spray— “Hey didn’t I see Hair Spray on here….” she thought aloud looking around again. “Yeah! That’s kind of romantic and musical!”
Oh! Callie actually had a great idea- she could shower while they watch the pikachu short thing, troublingly lacking in romance, and then she could come back and oogle whatever cute romance thing was picked! Arietta grinned, curling some of hair hair absently around her finger "Oooh- yeah I like that idea! I'll be out probably before the time it's done, but then we can get our romance on!" She was excited- that and she wanted to do whatever she could to keep her mind off other aspects of her daily life- so romance movies?! They'd be perfect!
As Ellie spoke again Arietta turned her gaze towards her before bringing her hands together, "I love Hairspray! I've only seen it about... five times- we can all sing along and stuff too- if you guys know the words?! Of course, it's not suuuper romantic but I can totally relate to I can hear the bells!" True to herself, Arietta was still energetic around this time of the night, and further spurred by the idea of the movie.
"So that's what we'll be watching when i'm out the shower then?" She tilted her head, moving to linger in the bathroom doorway. "If that's all sorted I might go wash my hair and stuff, and then i'll be back- if hairsprays cool with you though, Callie~"
[attr="class","curragepost"] Callie nodded, almost sage-like, as Elise discussed what to do with her hair. "I'm sure it'll look great no matter what you do, though," she said honestly. Elise was always so, so pretty... Fuck don't blush Callie. Okay good she was pretty sure she fought that down.
"Hairspray?" She pondered it. "I'm actually not sure if I've seen it somehow? I know I've heard of it! Maybe I saw it a long time ago and just can't remember?" HMMM. "But if you guys say it's good, and especially if it's a musical, I'm definitely down!" She flashed a cheesy grin. "But you gotta promise to sing along. It'll be my own private concert from the best girl idols in the world~!" She giggled.
“Ehehehehe….” Elise beamed at Callie’s compliment. “Thanks!” Her attention was immediately grabbed again, though, as Ara started speaking. Immediately Elise burst into a fit of giggles. Five or more times? She wasn’t sure she could boast seeing it that many, but she did have the soundtrack on her phone. But Callie hadn’t seen it? “Oh gosh it’s so cute!” she assured.
“I can definitely sing along!” Clearing her throat, she immediately started with: “I can hear the bells, well, don't you hear 'em chime? Can't you feel my heartbeat keeping perfect time?!” Maybe there was a little too much zeal there, but still. As Ara disappeared off into the shower, Elise shifted around and found the remote before flicking through a few stations to find the movie channel and get the Pikachu movie loaded. Sitting back and folding her legs in front of herself, she beamed sideways at Callie before looking forward again to watch intently.
Callie hasn't seen hairspray?! Isn't that like, illegal?? Of course, she couldn't help grinning as Callie said she'd watch it, and further brought her hands together in an eager clap as Elise began singing, waiting until she finished the line before giggling. "Then, it's settled! Hairspray once the shorts done- i'll definitely sing my heart out!" Arceus, she was so excited already! If you hear very faint singing from the shower from 'good morning baltimore' please don't blame Arietta.
A salute was given followed by, "I'll be back soon!" before she dissapeared into the bathroom, door closing behind her. Shower time!
