It was a clear-skied and pleasant noon in Plum City.
It was the weekday; leading to people hustling and bustling about for the lunch rush, fast food places and restaurants alike lining up with people looking to get food during their lunch breaks. However, even with the general chaos of this sunny day, all was running as it normally was in Arciel’s large and sprawling capital city.
All was normal…
”.. HEY!”
… Including for a certain little thief.
Giggling and barking would abound, as a young girl in an oversized and hooded jacket darted out of a deli store; a couple loaves of bread under either arm, with a string of sausages trailing from her mouth. At her heels was a little Rockruff - a shiny Rockruff, if her blue hide implied anything - with what looked to be a pack of sliced meats clutched in her jaws as well..! The duo would make a daring escape as shouts sounded from behind her - “THIEF! SHOPLIFTER!” - running into the crowd with muffled laughter and yipping, as though uncaring as to the trouble they’d be in if they were caught by the shopkeep chasing after them now.
All they cared now was that they had their haul, and now they had to vamoose with it..!
In the midst of the chaos, not many people seemed to think - let alone have a chance - to try and stop the duo as they ran to the street, and leapt up onto a taxi; the car having come to a stop at a red light in the packed intersection. The driver, understandably quite bewildered, would stick his head out to peer at the duo - “What in the..?!” - before honking his horn, clearly displeased that these two had perched atop his vehicle..!
The young girl - Ettie - would simply giggle in response - muffling a “Sowhhy!” as she leapt to the next vehicle, and then the next - only briefly staggering as she had to climb her way up onto a taller van without losing her grip on the loaves of bread…! Meanwhile, her Rockruff - Anne would easily keep pace; the four-legged pokemon having a comparatively easier time with balancing and leaping between the vehicles.
Behind them, the shopkeep - now joined with a policeman that had been on duty - would be giving chase. “STOP HER..!” Neither of them seemed to have the youthful grace that Ettie did, and were far more law abiding; and thus were attempting to chase after her via the crosswalk that stretched across the large street. However, it was clear that they were losing ground; having to put up with the people milling back and forth across that same crosswalk.
Once Ettie was clear of the vehicles though, she would continue her hail-mary dash; her small size lending well to slipping her way through the crowd. Anne, being a large Rockruff - about the size of an Irish Wolfhound, at about 3 feet - may not have been able to slip between the people as easily as a more average-sized Rockruff might, but she was still plenty able to keep pace with her trainer; tail wagging in the midst of the excitement all the whilst.
It probably helped that most people tended to get out of the way whenever they were poked by the rocks around Anne’s neck, too.
However, even with this advantage, Ettie and Anne could still tell they were still being chased; it wasn’t exactly hard to spot the azure Rockruff, after all. The duo were unconcerned, however - sharing a glance, as Ettie grinned the best she could around the string of sausages that she was still carrying from her mouth.
“Leh’s loose ‘em!”
Anne barked in affirmative from behind the sliced deli meat; the duo rounding the first corner they could see on the street, so as to break line of sight with their pursuers. Time was of the essence, if they were going to make a proper disappearing act; and the last thing that either of them wanted, was for the policeman and shopkeeper (though Ettie had a feeling the latter of the two men might’ve given up by now) to spot them as they made a move to hide..!
A quick glance over Ettie’s shoulder would confirm that they had some breathing room now, at least. They had time to look for the perfect hiding spot - the duo glancing about, until Anne let out another muffled bark; darting off to the right..! Ettie, trusting in her self-proclaimed sister, would follow Anne’s lead now - as the duo made their way into a nearby alleyway.
Like many alleyways, it was dark and dirty; lit only by the sun above, in the gap in the overhangs that obscured this place from the sky. A pair of Murkrow were perched above on a broken and flickering neon bar sign, idly preening as they watched Ettie and Anne dart by - and a small group of Alolan Rattata would scatter at their passing. The two would remain deathly quiet now; almost as though they were afraid that the smallest peep might alert their pursuer(s), even if the sounds of the hustle and bustle outside likely muffled any sounds coming from down this dingy path.
Wordlessly, they acted as though this was a routine they went through many times; Anne leaping onto a garbage bin so as to reach a fire escape, and setting down the deli meat. Ettie tossed up the two loaves of bread - one by one - as Anne caught them in her jaws, and set them aside as well.
Sure, the bread might end up a little squished from this; but neither of them were picky eaters.
Next, Ettie would climb her way up; Anne biting into the collar of her jacket to help her up and over the railing to the fire escape. Once they both were on solid ground, only then would they take the brief time to pause and catch their breath; gathering the food back up, and ascending the fire escape a few stories, so as to be obscured from those below.
As they ascended the metal stairs, they would pass another Murkrow - this one eyeing them curiously and crowing softly, until Ettie would hush it with a soft “Shhhh,” and bribed it with a couple of sausages. The crow pokemon, seemingly appreciative of the fresh food, would accept the bribe; snatching up the sausages in its mouth, before taking wing, disappearing into the sky above.
Below, voices and footsteps could be heard. Anne would chance the smallest peek over the edge as they both hunkered down in their hiding spot; seeing no shopkeep, but being able to see the policeman and his growlithe sniffing about. “You see anything, boy?” The policeman’s voice traveled up to them - the Growlithe in question responding with a negatory bark. The fiery canine had a scent - but so far, no visible signs quite yet.
The two hunkered down together, just out of sight, and far above the policeman and his pokemon. Neither dared to move at the risk of making a sound; their hearts hammering in their chests from both the thrill of the escape, and the possible risk of being found out. From here, they weren’t able to see what was going on down below - and neither of them dared to risk peeking again, at the possibility that they might be spotted if they tried.
As a result, all would be mostly quiet for a stretch of time - the only sounds that either could hear being the muffled and muted sounds of city life continuing on the main streets beyond the alleyway, and the sounds of footsteps and sniffing before. This silence would only be broken when the Growlithe barked at something - “You find something...?” - the duo freezing up and stiffening in fear of the possibility that they were found out, and…
The sound of the garbage bin below opening, paired with the sounds of squeaking, and startled shouts and yelps..! In the midst of the auditory chaos below, Anne could swear that she heard the officer cursing out what must’ve been another swarm of Rattata…! Ettie, soon realizing this as well, would have to put a hand over her mouth to stifle any laughter; and Anne would be forced to do the same with a paw - her tail wagging instead to express her amusement over the situation.
As the sounds of squeaking and skittering and shouting gradually died down, the policeman and Growlithe - much to the duo’s luck - would briefly glance about the alleyway one more time, groan to themselves, before leaving; seemingly having lost the duo’s trail, and giving up on the chase. Even after their pursuers had given up and left though, the thieving duo would remain quiet and still for a little while longer - waiting, and listening…
… Before Anne would make one last cursory peek over the edge of the alleyway. Ettie, popping the string of sausages out of her mouth, would lean against the wall behind her - asking in a hushed voice “See anything?”
Anne would take a second, before shaking her head no; picking the sliced deli meat back up, and heading back down the stairs. With the coast clear, the two were free to continue their trek through the alleyways giggling, and take their haul home…

…
“We’re hoooohme…!”
Ettie’s voice would still be muffled by the string of sausages in her mouth, as she climbed in through the broken window; a couple of boards that were once nailed over it having been removed. Neither duo really knew what the abandoned building that they were squatting about in was originally for, but all they knew was that this room in particular they had tidied up a bit; and were using it as a home base, for the time being.
Anne yipped a greeting of her own as she leaped in through the window; setting the pack of sliced deli meats down on a table, next to where Ettie placed the breads and sausages, as the duo both made for one of the far corners of the room. There, sat a bundle wrapped up in blankets; two large lumps sitting within. Ettie, very gingerly, would peel back a couple of the layers of blankets - smiling brightly at the two eggs that would be revealed within.
An Electrike egg and a Snubbull egg. After Ettie’s home gang had dissolved, she was able to take in these two eggs; and ever since then, had been raising them alongside Anne. Already, the two eggs were briefly shifting - it was likely that they’d hatch sometime today, if not early tomorrow..! “How’re you two doing? Keeping warm?” Ettie would softly speak to the eggs; running either hand over their smooth surfaces, even whilst static electricity crackled under her fingertips from the Electrike egg.
She didn’t remember from who exactly she heard it from - perhaps it was from someone in her old gang - but she once heard that pokemon, in their eggs, were aware of the things going on outside the egg. That they’re aware of how they’re being treated, of the things going on outside around them, of the things said to them. As a result, though Ettie couldn’t provide the comfiest and most stable of care… She still wanted to try her best, to care for the eggs that were going to hatch into her new siblings…!
After a couple of minutes of stroking the eggs, though… A rumble from her tummy would remind her that she and Anne both were getting pretty hungry..! Laughing, Ettie would walk over to the food that they had assembled - unwrapping it all - and toss the sausages to Anne, who caught the links quite deftly. “Here, let’s eat, and then we can get moving..!” Ettie suggested - to which Anne barked her agreement, as she began chowing down.
Ettie had been seeing construction workers and the sort checking out this building - likely a sign that it was going to be demolished, or renovated. This meant that the duo likely didn’t have much time, before they had to get moving again. So, they both figured; eat now, pack up leftovers and the eggs, and head back onto the streets..!
Sure, the risk of being spotted by the policeman from before was a possibility; but they both figured that once they gave it some time for things to cool down, and as long as they stuck to a different part of the city, they’d be fine.
Thus, the two would chow down on their collection of food. Ettie was a small girl - though she was still growing, and had the appetite to match. Anne, similarly, was quite the large canine compared to others of her kind! As a result, they both would end up eating a respectable amount of the food assembled here for their lunch; focusing primarily on the meats, as those would go bad quicker than the bread.
By the end of their meal, all that would be left would be the second loaf of bread; which Ettie would pack into a bag, alongside some basic supplies such as clothing and blankets. Meanwhile, a makeshift harness of sorts would be put onto Anne; the two eggs being attached to either side of it, so that the Rockruff could carry them close and keep them safe.
Once the duo was confident that they weren’t missing any useful items, and once they were confident that the eggs were strapped securely? They’d slip out the window that they came in from; blending in amongst the now-thinning crowd, as the lunch rush was now dying down with the coming afternoon… Neither of the two really knew where they were going to go from here; being free spirits who went with the flow and did what they had to to survive, though…
… One thing was for certain; that they’d have an interesting encounter with a fellow trainer today… OOC: I'd like a Crime skill up (or Agility if Crime is not applicable) for Ettie's little heist
Jet lag was always annoying, but this is the first time that a certain youth experienced it. How to say… it’s definitely not something he wants to repeat if he has the choice. Galar was quite far from Arciel, and in turn, the difference is like day and night. His body is not used to it. Normally, the logical thing to do is to check in a hotel, and probably just… flop, right? Rest a while, normalize his biological clock, you know the deal.
See, that would be nice… yes, would be… If he had not seen something that admittedly made him do something quite impulsively.
“So how about it, young man over there? Do you want to purchase a rare egg?”
Skeevy. In front of him, a man in a breeder outfit is selling several eggs in incubator tubes… For a normal public, this guy would have looked no differently than any other breeder… but for him who graduated from nursing school would have noticed several inconsistencies. One: the incubator isn’t a working one. Or more like, it’s a shabby, self made one made to look like an incubator, but it’s more like a prop. Two…
“Excuse me, but are these eggs legal? Like, you got a breeding license and all that?” the blue haired youth asked.
“Obviously!” the man answered in a heartbeat. He produced a legal looking certificate. It would have worked for tourists… and he guess that’s why he’s targeted to begin with: He’s a tourist, or looked like one. However, topics regarding all region’s breeding licenses and differences are also drilled into him. This one is a counterfeit. A great looking counterfeit, but a counterfeit nonetheless. The stamp was instead for Sinnoh rather than for Arciel.
Thirdly: The eggs are pale, rather than shiny and colorful looking. The poor Pokemon that birthed them probably was not taken care of well. While this (hopefully) does not make the Pokemon inside malnourished or born with defects, he still can’t let these go… There are two eggs left, huh.
“...How much?” he finally asked.
“Ohoh! Well, you see, this one here…” the man pointed at the egg “is a special egg, you see? Bred from the mightiest of dragons, but thing is I don’t know who’s the parent is--”
Strike one. That was unprofessional. Just because “Pokemon eggs suddenly appeared one day” does not mean “a breeder doesn’t know who the parents are”. This might mean that the pokemons are just tossed in the pen to yield as much egg as possible rather than slowly breeding them… also, that’s not a dragon. It’s a fairy.
“And so you’re saying that this egg… you don’t know what’s inside?”
“That’s right. But that’s the fun in it, right? It’s guaranteed to be very rare!”
...An endangered species, or perhaps an uncommon one on the field? He’s not quite familiar with the classification, but either way…
“...If I buy this egg, would you toss a freebie for me?” Azur asked. He glanced at the “dragon” egg. He has no idea what egg it is, but might as well nab it. He can’t trust this guy to care for the egg well.
“Whoa whoa, aren’t you moving too fast, bud? I told you that this is Very rare and above, you know!?”
Azur sighed. “First, I dunno what do you expect selling me a poor quality egg that has a chance of hatching a deformed or malnourished Pokemon…” he saw the man’s expression changed. Bingo huh. “But if you expect a tourist like me to just take a deal like that by face value, you’re seriously wrong. Now, let me ask you again… How much for the two of them?”
“Erk! I-it’s a thou--”
“How much?” Azur repeated the threat, this time more menacingly.
“E-e-errr… seven hundred and f--”
“Haaa!?” Inching closer, Azur tried his best to emulate Team Yell gangster back home.
“FIVE HUNDRED! NO LESS!”
Tsk, in the end he can only lower it to that level huh. Azur rummaged his wallet, tossed a hundred penn… on top of it, he tossed money that was meant for his inn fee. Not enough, he tossed almost all berries he collected from back home and also some items, leaving him with almost bare minimum. Food and clothes.
“...I believe we have a deal?”
“Y-yes! Th-they’re yours!”
...He has no idea how on earth he ended up being the bad guy, but whatever. Azur opened the faux incubators and took the eggs. He gently put them inside his bag. To the former owner, he craned his neck backward and gave him a smile… an off character smile that is.
“...Pleasure doing business with you.”
And so he left the shady alleyway… and to his surprise, he found a policeman with a Growlithe. He was accompanied by a… storekeeper perhaps? Azur glanced and noticed the sketchy breeder was still busy packing up. The time was never better. The officer looked disgruntled and the shopkeeper evenmoreso, but well… this is urgent isn’t it?
“Excuse me officer, may I have your time?” Azur flashed his caretaker license.
“A nurse? Yes, what is it?”
“You see, officer… There’s someone who is selling Pokemon eggs in bad conditions. The man is over there. I checked his license, it’s a counterfeit. These are his eggs, but if you don’t mind, I would like to help raise them up, to make sure they grew healthy.
I’ll be here for a while. If you need any testimony, I’ll be in Pokemon Center. I would prefer if it’s not today, however. ”
A glance at the egg was enough for the officer. He approached the breeder, who just sprinted the moment he saw the policeman. Yeah, that is going to take some time. Now… What to do? He guesses he should head to Pokemon Center now that he does not have any supplies or anything in his person… assist as a nurse temporarily, get a bit of money and done?
“...Mmmm… well, either way I wonder where is the Pokemon Center? I should have asked the officer before he took off… oh well.”
...Just as he returned to the main road, the sunlight blinded him. Azur shielded his eyes, but in turn, he wasn’t quite fully aware where he’s walking to… (Hatch Day Fairy Egg: 1/5 Mystery Egg A: 1/5)

With the encroaching afternoon, the sun was starting to dip downwards - the shadows cast by the tall buildings that dominated the city growing longer, as a result. People were returning to their jobs, and the streets were starting to calm a bit as the crowds thinned out. All the while, Ettie and Anne would walk along; glancing about, to see if she could spot any potentially promising hideouts in the alleyways she passed by.
So far, there wasn't much luck, though; or at least, there wasn't that really caught Ettie's eye. Though she always found herself to be a bit of a lucky child, it seemed that her escape from the officer and shopkeep before had spent her luck for the day... Well, that was okay, Ettie decided to herself! Smiling brightly, she'd add a skip to her step - figuring that she'd find something, sooner or later.
Meanwhile, following close behind, was Anne; the Snubbull and Electrike eggs both strapped to her sides for safe keeping. The large Rockruff would bark eagerly as she trotted ahead of Ettie a few paces; glancing about, though not finding anything of interest quite yet. There was only the multitude of smells that danced in the air, of various pokemon and people alike that prowled the streets; always a treat for Anne to try and pick out just what exact scents she could identify..! Ohh, there was the scent of that nice butcher who gave her a steak that one time...
Ettie, giggling at Anne's antics, would reach down to pat the Rockruff's head. "C'mon, Anne. Maybe we'll find a place to set up in down this way," She'd suggest, gesturing for the rock canine to follow after.
Anne, loyal as ever, would respond with an affirmative bark; her tail wagging as she tailed after Ettie. However, as they turned the corner of one of the streets...
... An unfamiliar face - someone who looked a bit lost, as well as stood out a bit amongst the crowd - would catch their eye...! A young man - much taller than Ettie or Anne - with a wide and muscular build, and dark skin, to match..! Though strong trainers were not unusual - typically those who trained alongside other Fighting-Type pokemon - this one in particular stood out to Ettie! Thus, her curiosity was quite piqued; leading the young girl to make a beeline for the other.
"Hiiiii!" She'd chirp in greeting; waving widely with a hand as she approached Azur, smiling brightly in a chipper and friendly fashion. "Who're you? I've never seen someone like you around here...!" Briefly, Ettie would circle about Azur - looking him up and down with a visible awe. "You're really big; and you look really strong, too..! What's your name?"
Anne, admittedly, was a little unsure of Azur - stranger danger, and all that. Though, she'd still follow close behind Ettie - giving the young man a cursory sniff as she did. Otherwise though, Anne kept a more respectful distance than Ettie was; briefly checking on the eggs that she still had strapped to her sides. The eggs would both give brief wiggles, but no indication as to whether or not they were ready to hatch yet.
Suddenly though, as though she had forgotten to do something, Ettie would perk up. "Oh! Right! I almost forgot..!”
Clearing her throat, the young girl would briefly pause, before speaking up again. “My name's Ettie, and this is my sister, Anne!" She'd introduce herself, gesturing to her Rockruff companion as she did. It was a bit odd, to be referring to a pokemon as one's sister; though Ettie didn't appear to see anything wrong with that. She and Anne both grew up together, and they shared a close bond, so according to her... That made them sisters! And no one can tell her otherwise...! "It's really nice to meet you, mister..!"
As though to be polite, Anne would greet Azur with a bark of her own. Electrike Egg - 1/3 Snubbull Egg - 1/3
That… was not exactly what he expected. Just his luck too. The moment he heard someone approaching, Azur braked to not accidentally step on someone’s feet (or worse, Pokemon). The bad thing, though, was not just that. The sudden braking pulled a muscle, especially after hours sitting in the airplane. Azur grunted in pain… not done there however he fell on his rear too. Agh!
“...Owww…” but that’s not important! He quickly opened his bag to make sure the eggs were fine. Thankfully, they are. After sighing in relief, he looked at… the person who seemed to be busy introducing themselves to him? His eyes are still getting adjusted to the sudden light. And there, he found…
“...Hm? A kid?”
What is a kid like… her? Him? What gender? He looked at the person up and down, making sure that he’s not addressing them wrong or something. She mentioned something about him being strong? Well he got that a lot, but what he doesn’t get a lot is a kid approaching him suddenly. Like… why? He’s sooner to make them cry than making them grin ear to ear like this. How… strange.
A Rockruff sniffing on him… a shiny one too, that’s rare. The child’s Pokemon partner, probably? Azur nursed his pulled muscle while offering the back of his hand slowly toward the Rockruff, the usual “you may sniff” gesture toward most Pokemon, without showing “I want to touch you” or anything that might make them alerted or aggressive. He works better with Pokemon after all.
...So the person is Ettie… that’s a feminine name, right? The girl said that the pokemon is her “sister”. Is she the type of person who raised in families who call their pokemon their “child” or “brother” or “sister”? He has seen those. He doesn’t mind, but admittedly this was the very first time someone outright calling their pokemon that way in front of him.
“...Azur,” was all he answered. He noted that the girl(tentative) is dressed rather… unflatteringly, perhaps a street child? Azur stood up after feeling his leg no longer hurting. “...That was dangerous, approaching someone like that. What if I’m someone bad?” he chided lightly. “...And so, what do you want, Ettie?” (Hatch Day Fairy Egg: 2/5 Mystery Egg A: 2/5)

As Azur practically tripped on his own two feet and fell straight onto his rear, Anne and Ettie both would be unable to help wincing. Oof...! The bigger they are, the harder they fall, right..?
Ettie, being the kind hearted girl that she was, immediately went over to him and extended a hand - offering to help Azur up and onto his feet. "Are you okay, Mister?" She'd ask in a concerned tone; adding "That looked like it hurt..!"
If Azur did accept the help up, it seemed as though she was nowhere near strong enough to pull him up - given her small frame, being built more for agility than strength. She still made a valiant attempt, though; grunting loudly as she tried to dig her heels into the pavement of the sidewalk beneath them...
... Before proceeding to lose her grip, and topple backwards with a soft "Yipe..!" Anne, immediately ready to fuss over her sister, would approach to check and see if Ettie was okay. Ettie, however, would easily laugh it off; placing a hand on Anne's back to brace herself, as she stood up and brushed herself off. "I'm okay, I'm okay...!" She'd giggle to Anne and Azur both; the Rockruff simply letting out a very real sigh in response.
Even if Azur didn't accept the help however, Ettie would still smile down to him - seemingly unconcerned, by Azur's attempts to observe her and get a bead on her. Sure, perhaps someone as tall and big as Azur might be intimidating to some; but Ettie didn't see any reason to be scared of him! She just sort of had a hunch that he'd be a nice guy; a gut feeling that she typically trusted in a lot. It hadn't steered her wrong yet...!
... Except for that one magic trick that a guy on a street corner did the month before, with some cards. He totally was magic, and he was just acting like he was bad at it so no one would find out...!
In any case though, Anne would at first shy away from the hand as Azur extended it - eyeing it in an uncertain fashion, given that she wasn't sure how she felt about Azur quite yet. However, after a couple of moments passed with Azur not making any other sudden movements... Anne would slowly approach once more - sniffing Azur's hand - before respectfully laying down, just beyond arm's reach. She'd turn her attention to the two eggs she was carrying; idly licking one of them, as though grooming it.
Ettie, meanwhile, smiled happily at the duo's interaction. Even if it was a quiet one, she was happy to see that Anne was accepting of Azur; she usually wasn't the biggest on strangers, after all..!
As Azur introduced himself, Ettie would nod to him excitedly, smiling brightly, and extending a hand - as though to shake his hand. "It's nice to meet you, Azur Mister!" She'd chirp, her cheery expression not even wavering at the older boy's short response. The gentle chiding, though, would make her blink a bit. Was it really dangerous, approaching someone to say hi, she wondered? Ettie would tilt her head one way, and then the other - almost as though she were considering Azur's 'what if', until...
"... Well... You don't really seem like a bad person!" Ettie mentioned, smiling brightly. "I have a good gut feeling about you; and most bad people don't even really talk to me or Anne in the first place. But even if someone DOES talk to me, and is a bad person, well..." Briefly, Ettie would trail off - grinning a bit too cheerily, for the subject at hand. "... Anne will bite and scare away all the bad people, and I have a knife...!" She'd conclude, suddenly pulling out a switchblade, of all things...! "So, I'm not scared of anyone I talk to being a bad person...!"
Briefly, she'd hold the switchblade just enough for Azur to see it, before pocketing it once more; maintaining her cheery smile, as if nothing alarming had just happened. Technically, Anne didn't know any biting moves - her two attacking moves were Tackle, and Sucker Punch - but... Shemantids, or however that word went...!
Anne didn't really bother to correct her, anyways. Regardless of how she went about it, she was still going to hurt anyone who tried to hurt Ettie.
Instead, Ettie would next focus on Azur's question of what she wanted, briefly tilting her head. "Well... I've never seen a guy like you before, so I'm really super curious about you!" She'd begin quite honestly, smiling more gently. "That, and, well... You kind of seem lost; are you new here?" Ettie would tilt her head in the opposite direction, her expression curious and inquiring. "I know Plum City super well, if there's anywhere that you need to be...!"

First thing first, the young lass was… naive, if he had to put it in that way? She sounded like she’s a cheerful soul, one that strangely untainted by this street life… or at least, that’s what he felt when he looked at her. She tried to help him, but not wanting her to hurt herself, Azur just simply held his hand up, hoping the girl would stop… but looks like she doesn’t and instead toppled backward! Azur’s arm shot to support the young teen before she too could hit the pavement.
“...Well… thanks for the help I guess,” he muttered.
Anne… the Pokemon seem to be appreciative of his gesture, albeit a bit wary? He tried to look at the Pokemon for a sign of any wounds or any problems… eggs? These two carrying eggs at it? He wondered why…? Whom did these eggs originally belong to? Where did they find them?
. “...Hey, Anne, could I check you a bit?” he suddenly asked. “Just want to make sure you’re fine and all that… Oh, and the eggs if you don’t mind… Don’t worry, I won’t take it away. You can watch me if you want.”
Then at Ettie… “...I’m not sure what to feel about you having a knife at your age, young lady. Also, just Azur. I’m not any ‘mister’. I’m just 17. Like hell I’ll let a kid call me “mister” when I’m not that old yet!”
...either way, these two looked like they could use more food… Darn him and his bleeding heart… ”...Yeah, I’m lost. Might as well as ask you then. Tag with me to Pokemon Center. I’ll get you guys some food.”
The Pokemon Center should be able to provide some food, right? Granted, not to everyone, generally just for traveler and Pokemon Trainers… But he’s a nurse. He should be able to get some money by helping around… He also can’t stand looking at these two with such a disheveled look. It reminds him of himself back when he left his home. Just one set of clothes, along with Gawain…
Azur cursed under his breath. “...I’m going to get you two some packable foods and new clothes I guess.”

As Azur asked about 'checking her a bit', Anne's brows furrowed in response, and she'd stand once more; backing away a few paces. The mention of checking the eggs, too, would bring out a rather protective growl..! It was clear that she wasn't comfortable with this stranger coming up to her, let alone coming up to the eggs - slinking away a few more paces as she huffed, let out a stressed-looking yawn, and laid back down; hoping that her point was made.
Ettie would give Azur a sympathetic look - mentioning "I think the eggs have Anne in Mama-mode; she always gets a little fussy over them and antsy towards others whenever she's carrying them around..." as she scratched the back of her head sheepishly. "Maybe I can try asking her if you can look at the eggs while I'm holding them, but I don't think you'll be able to get anywhere near her like this until she trusts you more."
Azur expressing his uncertainty over her having a knife, as well as his clarification to call him just 'Azur', would make Ettie blink a bit, before nodding in understanding. "Okay..! Just Azur, then...!" She'd chirp in a cheery agreement; smiling widely. "And I don't see what the problem with having a knife is... You were worried about bad people, and I know there's bad people out there, so I made sure I can protect myself from the bad people...!" She'd tilt her head, and giggle faintly, adding "People always get so surprised, when they find out I have a knife; but isn't having something to protect yourself with, wherever you go, common sense...?"
That's what she learned from her old gang, after all...! You had to always know how to protect yourself - from people or pokemon - or to get away from danger; cause you didn't have adults to look after you, like most other kids..!
As Azur confirmed that he was lost, though, and offered to get the duo some food if they went with him to the Pokemon Center... Ettie's and Anne's eyes would both light up a bit; clearly eager for the prospect of more food, even after having eaten recently. "Sure!" Ettie would chirp in response, a skip to her step as she looked around briefly. Standing on her tippy toes, she would glance around for landmarks that she recognized - certain notable buildings, street names, and the like.
And before long... "Mmm... Okay..!" She'd declare suddenly, pointing in a direction. "I know where we are; a Pokecenter is that way..! C'mon, Azur...!" Without waiting for any response from Azur, Ettie would be off - humming as she skipped down the sidewalk.
Anne, briefly stretching her limbs and yawning off any tension (though she'd shake her body, she didn't want to shake the eggs..!) as she got up, would begin following after her sister. The large Rockruff was unsure of what to think of Azur right now; though given that Pokecenters were typically a safe place for the duo to temporarily hang around, heading that way didn't seem all that bad of an idea...
As they walked, Ettie would glance over her shoulder to Azur - making sure he was following after, and seemingly curious about something. "Say... Azur?" She'd begin, making sure she had the older boy's attention. "I'm guessing you're new to Plum City, so... Where are you from?"
Hmm, that’s a no, huh? Azur thankfully didn’t move at all, nor reach out to the Rockruff or her eggs. “...Don’t worry, I won’t do anything without your permission. I just want to see if you three are healthy, that’s all. But I understand if you don’t trust someone you just met that easily, that’s just given.”
As for himself, Azur looked at his bag where two egg shaped bulges could be seen. “It’s alright, I understand. I just want to know if it’s her egg, or someone else’s and you just happened to find it is all. Seeing how close you are I’m sure you could raise the eggs well.”
Though… “Look, I’m just… I guess I’m just bothered why you have knives… Like… don’t you have any guardians? Or more permanent residence? ...Or actually, don’t answer that. Stupid me, obviously you don’t… But even so… to be so young and faced with the possibility of having to use knives… that’s what my problem is.” Tsk, he hates how hard it is to communicate. He used to be fine with it, but ever since that event, he’s always like this. It feels… hard to get his point across.
“...Plus, I don’t need a knife… I got these.” Azur balled his hand into a fist. “A punch to the jaw usually enough to knock someone out.”
Their height difference makes it easy for the youth to catch up with his guide. He mainly stayed a few steps behind from the street girl… Close enough so that he could bail her out if something wrong happened, and far enough to give both of them personal space.
“Hn?” He heard his name called. Azur looked at the much shorter Ettie who asked him about his place of origin. “...Curious about other regions? I’m from a place on the other side of the world. It’s called Galar. Land of Pokemon Stadium, they said, considering how big the Gym Battles are for the locals.”

Anne's ears flicked at Azur's attempt to explain himself, responding with another brief huff, before turning her attention back to the eggs. She seemed to relax a bit, but she still didn't want this stranger anywhere near these eggs - their siblings-to-be. They seemed healthy now, anyways; periodically shifting a bit in the harness. It was still hard to say when they'd hatch, but Anne was confident in their previous estimate - looking forward to the start of a pack of their own.
Ettie, though, nodded in understanding. "The eggs aren't hers - I think that she's not ready to be a mama yet. At least, not until she's a Lycanroc like her own mama!" She'd mention, a hand running over Anne's head, to which the large Rockruff affectionately nuzzled her palm, tail wagging. "We took these eggs in, and we've been taking care of them the best we can ever since; Anne and I want a pack, to call our new family..!" She'd smile brightly to Azur at this; clearly looking forward to having a pack of canid pokemon.
"I think they're gonna hatch today or tomorrow, with how much they're wiggling..." Ettie added, patting the eggs briefly "... But neither of us really know for sure!" Giggling a bit with a rather sheepish hue, the young girl would shrug a bit, concluding "They'll hatch when they hatch, though; and I'm ready to love them like I love Anne, whenever they do..!"
As Azur spoke regarding knives, guardians, and a residence, though... Ettie's expression would droop a bit - becoming quiet, in an almost thoughtful fashion. "..." Briefly, she'd open her mouth, as though to speak - though it took a second for her to actually form any words. "... I mean... I know, it can be scary, and hard, and sometimes even dangerous to be on your own like I am; and I appreciate your worry, lots and lots...! But... Don't trainers like you guys deal with it, too? Being on your own and everything?"
Glancing over to Azur, she'd tilt her head a little; mentioning "Trainers have their pokemon, like I have Anne; and they have to look after themselves and each other like family, too, right? Some trainers are even super far from home, or don't have a home to go back to at all...!" Ettie would fold her arms behind her head, and gaze upwards at the sky - visibly thinking over her words once more. "... The only difference I can really think of, between how I live and how trainers live, is that one of us is on the move, while one of us stays where she's grown up. Isn't it really dangerous, some of the places that other trainers go to, compared to here in the city?"
For a moment, Ettie fell silent - as though to let her words sink in. She would hop up onto a short stone railing that separated the sidewalk from a bed of flowers in front of a store, with a soft 'hup!' as she did. Carefully, she would extend her arms out to balance on the railing; walking along atop it as she spoke up once more; this time more softly. "... I guess you could just say that I grew up being like a Trainer, while you guys started being trainers later on. But it's okay..!"

Smiling to Azur, despite how heavy her previous words might've been, she'd giggle briefly as she gestured over to Anne. "It's not like I'm alone - I have my partner with me, after all; and soon, I'll have an Electrike and Snubbull...! Me and Anne look out for each other - we always have, being sisters - and I'm sure the other two will, too..! And it's not like it was only ever just us and the two eggs, either."
Her expression would take on a somewhat wistful hue now, as though remembering old times. "... I had a bunch of other friends, too; and we all had each others' backs way back when. We've all sort of... Grown apart, though, recently." It was the best way that Ettie could describe her gang, and it having dissolved, without outright calling it a gang. She knew that most people didn't like the word 'gang', that they often treated it like a dirty word for some reason, even though that was what they were. "... I sometimes wonder how they're doing, out there in the city; and we do sometimes run into one another, every so often. But we've all moved on, I think. And that's okay."
Was this oversharing? Ettie didn't really know or care; the concept of oversharing was a foreign one to her. She just wanted to explain to Azur that this was her version of 'normal', and that she was okay. Anne, though, couldn't help a hue of concern as she peered over to Ettie - pondering if the young girl was really as okay as she tried to make herself out to be. They both were still adjusting to not having a gang that they could call their family anymore, after all...
Regardless though, she'd giggle a bit as she went back to Azur's mention of his fists - changing the subject, as she hopped down from the stone railing and commented "I bet you could break a rock with those fists of yours, anyways..! You seem super super strong, like a fighting type is; you'll have to show me what you can do, sometime..!" Perhaps, one day, she could get big and strong like Azur? She always was a bit of a small girl, even for her age; leading to plenty of height-related troubles. Thank goodness she had Anne, to help her out with reaching high-up places and objects...!
The mention of the Galar region, as well, would make Ettie's eyes light up curiously; her attention clearly caught. "Oooh! Isn't that the region that Yampers come from???" She'd question, squeeing briefly. "They're so cuuuuute! I wanna hug a Yamper someday...! I bet a Yamper would be great friends with the Electrike, too, when they hatch...!" Ettie raved briefly, giggling happily and excitedly. "Oh, right! Don't they have a legend about wolfies, too??" She'd add in question, eyes lit up. "About a wolf with a sword, and a wolf with a shield! I think one of my friends told me about a story like that, once..!"
Anne, picking up on Ettie's excitement, couldn't help a wag of her tail; casting an amused look at her sister's eagerness. However... The attentive Rockruff would end up having to lightly tug on Ettie's sleeve at one point, nudging her sideways to keep her from walking into a lamppost. With how much the young girl's focus was on Azur, she was barely even watching where she was going…! Electrike Egg - 3/3 Snubbull Egg - 3/3
“Hmm, by hers I mean that if she’s like the big sister or if she just found them is all, but yes, semantics.” And Anne’s mother is a Lycanroc eh, that makes sense… A new pack to be called a family though? “...And so what sort of Pokemon are you if you’re a member of the pack?” Azur joked. “Nah, don’t mind that, I’m just joking around.”
Hatch today or tomorrow huh. “I’m sorry, I’m not a breeder, so I have no idea how long until they will hatch per se without examining them properly. But I think you’re right on that if they’re moving a lot. Nurse Joy might be able to tell you more on that.”
...Though he did not expect what came next, so much that he almost outright stopped. ...Well, if she put it that way, it all makes sense… There are various dangers… Pokemon Trainers are expected to be strong and fit, even if they’re just a kid. Well, he guesses that’s why he’s very well built, himself. Azur not having any other Pokemon back then other than Gawain made it harder for his journey… He had to do a lot of things himself, but they were happy.
“...Hmh, well if you have to put it that way, you’re right.” Azur commented. “...But at the same time I think the danger between Pokemon and Humans is relative. Humans are… admittedly more capable of malicious actions. I guess… you’re facing more humans than Pokemons, that’s why you need knives. As for me… My life as a trainer was pretty much just commanding my Pokemon against wild one if we can’t outrun them. I don’t think I really ever fight against them per se. Only probably did a bit of a distraction.”
Trainers though? “...There are some annoying people back home though, now those… I just punch them, heh. But enough of that… I concede and understand your point of view, but I hope it doesn’t have to be a situation where you have to protect yourself with weapons is all… It just… I don’t know, I just feel like you deserved a better life.”
There, he said it finally. Was it because of Ettie’s openness? “...But then again it wasn’t my business to police how people live their life. As long as you’re happy then all is good.” But still...the kid is left by her gang, huh… “...Are they all kids like you?” he asked.
Break rock? “Ha, I wish. I’m not that super strong you know. But I guess I do like being able to do more. Well, who knows, maybe if I learned something new from this region?” What he can do huh. “...Sure, I guess that would be fine.”
Yampers? “Yeah, they’re from Galar. Their rears are fluffy and very satisfying to pat and poke against. But only do that to Yampers that trusts you of course. Is there no Yampers in this region?”
In mention of the two legendary wolves, Azur smiled. “Yeah, Zacian and Zamazenta. The heroic sword and shield. Wolves of countless battles, Heroes of Galar. Admittedly as a kid I used to really like them a lot. How to say… I don’t want to capture them, but I’d love it if they pick me as someone special they recognize. It was of course a daydreaming of a kid. I’m no one special, just another normal joe.”
There was a little bit shaking on his bag. “...oh. Looks like the eggs are shaking...” (Hatch Day Fairy Egg: 5/5 Mystery Egg A: 5/5)

Azur's joking around would prompt a giggle from Ettie; the young girl grinning widely and humorously. "Well, I haaaave been compared to a Zorua before, with my eyes and hair!" She'd joke back, before breaking down into giggles once more. Regardless of whether Azur found her humor funny or not, it was all still funny to her..!
At Azur's mention of not being a breeder, but mentioning that the eggs moving a lot is probably a good sign... Ettie would nod a bit; mentioning "They've been wiggling all day; I think Anne's kind of afraid that they'll hop right out of the harness, when they get reaaaally close to hatching; eheh..!" She'd sidestep to Anne - patting both her, and the eggs.
Anne, honestly, wasn't sure if the eggs would necessarily hop straight out of the harness like Ettie said; though she was a little antsy about how things would go when the eggs did hatch. Though a pokemon was able to take care of itself and fight the second it hatched - eggs being more of a 'larval form' than anything - they were still young and relatively weak, until they got a bit of training under their belt..!
And in a chaotic life like theirs, would the pups be okay?
Ettie, quietly, would listen to Azur's response over how her life was, in a way, similar to that of a Trainer's life. However, he would point out the different ways that the two lives they led were different, as well; namely in how humans could be more malicious, and how pokemon usually kept the trainer out of danger anyhow. Ettie couldn't really think of a retort to all of that - she didn't know a lot about being a trainer, beyond traveling and having pokemon companions.
She'd briefly try to open her mouth and speak up, to try and reassure Azur that all was okay, but... No words would come to her - especially not when she'd hear the next thing that he mentioned.
How he felt as though she deserved a better life.
At that, Ettie would pause; staring down at her feet, where they balanced atop the stone railing, no longer trying to find her words. Instead, she was pulling inwards, to mull over Azur's words - over him feeling as though she deserved better. Briefly, her brows would furrow downwards, the arms outstretched to keep her balanced drooping slightly; unable to help but ask herself...
... What would better even mean, for her, who has grown to love the freedom that living like this brought her? Who has never minded needing to adapt to whatever life threw at her?
As Azur asked about her old friends though, Ettie would take the out that she saw, instead offering him a bright smile. "Most of them are older than me; but yeah!" She'd mention, her cheeriness returning in full, as she returned to balancing along the stone rail. "Some of them were also other pokemon, like Anne." The pokemon were probably still dwelling in that same old hideout, now that she thought about it. Maybe she could hang around there, for a few days, while the Electrike and Snubbull found their legs?
At the agreement to showing off a little, at some point, Ettie would giggle with glee; clapping her hands. "I bet you'd get strong enough to break just about anything in no time, if you asked a Machoke or some other fighting type or whatever to teach you...!" She'd chirp in a cheery hue, a bounce to her step now as she fell in line alongside Azur.
The talk of Yampers, too, seemed to have her eyes light up a bit, smiling brightly. "There's Yampers here in Arciel, I'm pretty sure..!" She'd start, thinking briefly on her words. "I've just never really seen one up close, y'know? I've seen a few from afar before, and I've met a Boltund before, but I want a Yamper that I can call my own, and snuggle with, and have as a sibling and play buddy for my Electrike..!" Ettie rambled briefly, her energy practically palatable. "I bet two electric types would be able to get along pretty easily, right?"
That's what made sense to her, at least..!
Zacian and Zamazenta, too, seemed to have Ettie's attention. "They sound really cool..!" She'd remark, grinning a bit. "I'd love to see them up close... Though I don't imagine they'd come all this way to Arciel, when Galar probably needs them, too." She'd hum; glancing towards the sun, as it ever-so-slowly dipped closer to the horizon. It wasn't evening yet, not for another four or five hours she'd guess; but their shadows were still growing longer by the minute, even if slowly.
At the mention of Azur's eggs shaking, though... Ettie's eyes would light up; glancing towards the bag. "Really??" She'd chirp in question, grinning widely. "Can I see?? Please??" She'd ask Azur nicely, her eyes casting between his own, and the bag.
Anne, too, seemed curious over the bag; quietly gazing towards it, though not making any motion to come closer to Azur. Electrike Egg - 3/3 Snubbull Egg - 3/3
“Zorua is it?” Azur repeated, then looked at Ettie again. “...Well, you got the mischievous part straight for sure,” he continued with a wry grin. There’s part of him that just wants to mess with her hair, but he decided against it. Instead, Azur simply continued following the girl.
“I don’t think they’ll hop from their harnesses… Not unless you got really hyper babies inside those eggs. Usually they’d be quite tired after breaking out from their egg, you know? They just want to nap… usually. Unless again, you got a really hyper, or at least very active Pokemon inside, then they’ll be immediately ready to follow you on your journey.”
Did he say something wrong though? “...Sorry if I made you uncomfortable. I just feel it’s better if you could fill your stomach everyday to your content, have something to shield you from harsh weathers, and to feel safe in. That… is what I feel was “better life”. But of course everyone has what sort of life they feel is an ideal life. It’s not my place to comment on that.”
Hmmm, sounds like she really has fond memories of her gang, whatever this gang is…
“Sure hope you guys can reconnect,” is all he can say to that.
Him taught by Pokemons? “...I don’t think I really want that, but eh,” a shrug from him. “Maybe later when the time is right. At the moment, I have too many things that I want to start with first. That… is secondary.”
Hmmm, indeed, there are indeed cases of Pokemons generally getting along better if they’re in the same typings… Probably because of their biological reaction or something like that. While not as close knit as Pokemons of the same species, he guesses that the same typing is good enough.
“Sure hope so,” was all he offered to that.
She wants to see his eggs?
“Not here. I prefer it if we do it in Pokemon Center, anyway. I got to make sure they’re put in the incubator immediately. They’re in rather bad condition before, you see. Their breeder was… not a good breeder. Breed them only for money, charging exorbitant amounts of price… Saying they’re endemic of this area or something,” another shrug. “I don’t care about it myself. I just want to make sure they grow well.”
Post by Ettie Carnall on Apr 24, 2020 23:34:34 GMT
Ettie would respond to Azur's grin with a giggle and smile of her own. She wasn’t sure if he knew what exactly she tended to get up to, but she had no shame in admitting it. "Even when they catch me in the act, they've yet to catch me," She playfully boasted; briefly remembering the excitement of the chase from before. "Being small and fast means I can squeeze n run n hop everywhere that bigger people can't! And I'm really super lucky, at that...!"
As Azur mentioned them being tired after breaking from their egg, though... Ettie would cast another glance, towards their eggs, before humming. "That makes sense..." She'd murmur; briefly stroking the shells once more. "Breaking out must be hard work, for the little guys; and it's the first thing they do in their lives, when they're feeling ready to hatch...!" Glancing to Anne, she'd tilt her head a bit, asking "Was it the same for you, Anne?"
The Rockruff in question would tilt her head as well, appearing thoughtful, and trying to think back to when she hatched. After a few long moments, though... She would bark in response, and shrug with a single shoulder. While hatching was hard work, last she could remember, she also has always been a hardy Rockruff; it never did tucker her out as much as Azur described it. Her family had grown up tough, and she was no different.
Then, there was Azur's apology. Ettie was quick to offer him a smile, mentioning "It's okay! I appreciate the concern!" with a brief wave of the hand. Though, it seemed as though something was on her mind - for she'd briefly murmur "Though...." before trailing off. It'd take her a minute to find her words, visibly thinking it all over, before she spoke up once more.
"... I sort of like being on my own like this, like a Trainer is, too. I like being able to do whatever I want, whenever I want. I've always lived like this, and I don't wanna not be free; y'know what I mean?" Glancing towards Azur, she'd tilt her head in an inquisitive fashion - adding in question "What's it like, for you, seeing the world? I bet you get to meet a lot of different people and pokemon, out there."
As Azur explained wanting to wait until they're in a Pokemon Center before she could see the eggs, Ettie would frown - visibly disappointed, but nodded. "Alright... But you better show me, once they're in an incubator! Okay?" She'd state; puffing her cheeks a little, in a poutlike fashion.
However, she didn't appear to be truly upset; holding the pout for a few seconds, until a big grin cracked the facade. "Ehehehehe…!” She’d giggle, rubbing her cheeks briefly. “I'm really curious about what kind of pokemon are in them, too...!" She'd chirp, hopping ahead a few paces, and glancing about to make sure they were on the right path. "... Maybe someone at the Pokecenter will know?" She sure hoped so, at least; imagine if he had an egg for some big pokemon or something...! That'd be coooool...!
"We're almost there, by the way..!" She'd chirp - gesturing down the road they were following now. "Can you see it? It's the shiny red roof, waaay off there...!"
Azur just smiled wryly. He doesn't mean to praise her, but here she is grinning ear to ear as if he did. Unable to hold himself back, Azur ruffled her hair. "You shouldn't do that, alright? If you have difficulty in getting food, you should get it in better way. Those shopkeepers have to feed their family and Pokemon too, you know? Just because you didn't get captured today doesn't mean tomorrow will be the same. So don't go building bad karma... Well, today you're building good karma with a lost person though...." yeah, him. He know that she'd rather be free, but... well, whatever. He won't force her to go with him or be his assistant.
"...I think there is a saying somewhere to make it easier for the Pokemon to hatch, you can hug them close while rubbing their shell gently... Just don't squeeze them too strongly though. I think it'll make them bond easier with you too. It might be a superstition, but I believe it nonetheless. It's the same way as a mother-to-be who sings while she's pregnant, or reading stories, or anything similar. Apparently there are studies that tries to prove it."
With Ettie's answer, Azur looked thoughtful before looking back at her. "...Then, what's your definition of 'free'?" he asked. "...For me, having house, having family to return to wasn't really a definition of 'not being free'. My family are fine with me going places, having house does not mean I have to stay in it forever. I can just leave it for a while, go on adventure... In my opinion, if it's based on having house, based on having job that I want to do... it's freedom in itself."
How was it, adventuring, is it? "...It was... different. In cities, you can get a shelter in Pokemon Center. If you're a trainer, you can ask to rent one of their guest rooms, sleep in a bunk bed with other trainers... you can chat with them about what sort of journey they did. Outside though it's... another matter altogether. You have to make sure you're in a safe spot, you have to make sure you have repel ready on hand if you don't want to get disturbed by wild Pokemons... sometimes you have to deal with weather that can change in a blink of eye. I had unfortunate moment where I was in middle of sleeping and suddenly it was snowing. It was a nightmare. Me and my Pokemon had to run to the nearest city, knock Pokemon Center door dead at night, and sleep there. I was down with a cold the next day. But overall it was... an experience."
Just as they approached the Pokemon Center, an unmistakable sound of egg cracking could be heard.
"WOOP WOOP!" Azur quickly opened his bag in panic and put the egg down on the floor gently. True enough, they're hatching! Had he not put it down before it too late, he gotta say goodbye to his bag! This bag is really expensive! And... with bright lights, the egg hatched into... First one, from the rare egg, it's a sizable Pokemon, almost a meter... it blinked. Azur was expecting a smaller Pokemon, and somehow now is face to face with i--
*CHOMP*
"GEEEEEH!?"
It was play biting, but it's surprising that this Bagon suddenly nibs away at his nose! Not enough that, it suddenly danced around him after letting go, before nibbling his arm this time around.... This Pokemon is definitely a hyperactive one. It looks at Ettie, then at Anne. ...There's some glint in its eyes that seemed to be... misunderstanding something?
Immediately, the Bagon let go of Azur's arm. It crouched down in a position as if trying to initiate a battle! "Hey hey hey! We're not having a Pokemon Battle here!" Azur retorted. But just as he thought that was the end of it, suddenly a small Ralts joined the fray! Is this another of his egg? This one, though, looks like even more gutsy than the Bagon! It glanced at the Bagon, then... clicked its tongue?
"Hey hey hey! No, no, bad!" Azur tried to stop the two. But it looks like they're already trying to challenge Anne... One playfully, another with determined look on its eyes.

The hair ruffle would make Ettie gasp and giggle; letting out a playful "Heeeey...!" as her messy ponytail was, well, messed up further. She would laugh still though, as she briefly fixed her hair - grinning up to Azur all the whilst. Azur's gentle scolding, though, would make the grin droop a bit; instead puffing her cheeks a bit, as if frustrated. "Well... He was building bad karma, too! So hmph!" She'd retort, crossing her arms. "He's always been rude and grumpy to me and my friends - and I don't steal from nice people, anyways! ... Not unless I really really have to, at least. But especially not from people who need it more, too!"
Azur explaining how hugging and gently rubbing the egg might make it easy for the pokemon to hatch, though, would prompt a nod from Ettie. "Makes sense!" She'd chirp, smiling to her own eggs, as she rubbed the tops of the Electrike and Snubbull eggs. "One of my friends once said that eggs, uhm... Kinda know what's going on around them? And they remember it when they hatch? So you should treat them as nicely as you can, even if they aren't hatched yet..!" She'd puff her chest in a prideful fashion, as if proud of knowing this much about eggs.
The question of the definition of 'free' though, would make Ettie pause; her expression twisting in a difficult to read fashion. Azur's own definition of free made sense, sort of - although... "... I... I dunno..." She'd mumble eventually, having no real idea of how to... Properly put it into words. Having grown up in a gang, her definition of free was things such as not being bound by the rules of parents or adults, being able to do as she pleased and climb a round the city without any worry... Though, she seemed to be having a hard time actually articulating it all and putting the words in her head into actual phrases.
... Perhaps that was the furthest they were going to get with that subject, for the time being.
Thankfully, the talk of adventuring would perk her back up. She'd be visibly curious and awed as Azur described bunking with other trainers, chatting with them, and even the weather. Perhaps for another person, this all would sound disheartening or discouraging. But... The idea of being able to meet other wild pokemon, being able to experience the weather firsthand? There was a certain charm to it that seemed to catch Ettie's attention, her eyes lighting up.
For a few moments longer, she would be quiet - mulling over Azur's explanation of what adventuring was like for him, before... "... Maybe I could start adventuring, too?" She'd murmur thoughtfully. It'd be different, from needing to move from hideout to hideout - and... Maybe, that way, she'd get to meet a whole bunch of other people and pokemon..!
But then, as they reached the Center... Came the distinct sound of something cracking - a sound that had Anne's head practically snapping in the direction of Azur's bag. His eggs were hatching...! It was a flurry of activity as they gathered on the grass, next to the PokeCenter; Azur taking the eggs out of the bag, to save it from what could've been (but thankfully was not) an unfortunate shredding.

Ettie, meanwhile, would be crouched down; watching closely with wide and awed eyes. "Babiiesss..!" She'd squee quietly to herself, fidgeting in her excitement. Though this wasn't the first time she'd seen an egg hatch - due to her original gang having included families of stray pokemon - it was always so exciting, to welcome a new pokemon into the world...!
In the first of the two eggs to hatch, was a large Bagon - almost a meter high, though not quite. Ettie's eyes would be wide and awed - recognizing that this must be a dragon pokemon - though... Then the baby dragon would get the bright idea, to nip Azur right on the nose...! Surprised at the Bagon's playfulness, Ettie would begin to giggle brightly, grinning widely. Even though the breeder that had him was bad, it seemed that the little dragon was perfectly fine and healthy...!
Right behind the Bagon, though, would also be a little Ralts - this one from Azur's other egg, no doubt. Ettie tilted her head a little at the small pokemon - smiling fondly. She'd never seen a Ralts before, though she's heard that they hung around Route 4 a lot..! Whereas the Bagon was just playful and hyperactive, though... This Ralts was rather gutsy, judging by the look that he was now giving Anne..!
Even as Azur tried to scold and stop the duo, Ettie would smile warmly to Azur - reassuring him "It's okay, Azur!" Giggling, she would continue "Let them tussle a bit - Anne knows how to play nice with younger pokemon!"
The Rockruff, lounged a short distance away, would eyeball the Bagon and Ralts both - seeming to easily catch onto the two brothers' intentions. They wanted to challenge her, despite having only just hatched, and despite Anne likely being the stronger of the two...! Anne, however, seemed down to wrassle; though she needed to handle something, first. She'd hold up a paw to the other two in a 'hang on a second' motion, moving over to Ettie, and tilting to the side a little.
Ettie, understanding immediately, would take the makeshift harness off of Anne - shoving the scavenged straps back into her bag, and holding the two remaining eggs in either arm. "Play nice, okay Anne?" She'd ask gently in reminder - even if they were fighting ready, they were still babies! In response, the Rockruff would nod and yip; clearly understanding, and clearly already planning to take it easy on the duo.
Ready to go now, Anne would trot a short distance away from the PokeCenter - giving both herself, as well as the Bagon and Ralts both, room to properly tussle. There was a simialrly determined gleam to the puppy pokemon's eyes as she turned around to face the duo, crouched down low as though she were ready to pounce. Her eyes were narrowed, her tail was bristling up, and she'd let out a playful and challenging growl at the Ralts and Bagon both - daring them to attack.
However, what neither of them might expect, was the fact that if one of the duo attacked? They'd be on the receiving end of a Sucker Punch from Anne, in the form of a sudden headbutt that - though Anne was holding back, as to avoid hurting the two newly-hatched pokemon too badly - was sure to catch them by surprise...!
Ettie, meanwhile, would watch the tussle with excited eyes. She, admittedly, lowkey wanted to play with the babies as well - though Anne tended to get worried whenever she wanted to roughhouse with other pokemon, so she held off on it for now. Instead, Ettie would simply keep a close eye on both the fighting, as well as the eggs - which were wiggling at a regular rate now.

"Well but even so, you shouldn't make him want to catch you further, you know? I get that it's frustrating... I ever had the thoughts of stealing some food from some elitist prick too when I was travelling but... How to say... First, I think it doesn't worth it. Yes, trainer would hop from places to places.. That's just how trainer life are. But if you slight someone, it's not just you, but also your Pokemon Partners that got pulled to that bad karma. I guess I ended up deciding it doesn't worth it. Well, if you think it worth it, just make sure that you got a plan to bail yourself out of it, got it?"
...It does sort of feel like he's lecturing her, but eh... whatever. Azur's body language seem to indicate he's much more relaxed around Ettie now. "Yeah. Babies are sensitive to emotional changes, also affections. Someone told me "we all born to this world desiring to be loved. Pokemon, humans, we're the same. We want that affection, we want to be loved, by anyone". For love, we would do anything... That's why I think love should be given to those who need them. That's why I think everyone deserves to be happy."
...That sounds too sappy. Azur blushed and shook his head. "Forget that, you heard nothing."
Hm, talk about free, was hard, huh? He guess for her age, she has yet to understand what is her personal freedom yet. Perhaps because she has yet to seen the world that much yet. On the topic of going on a journey, Azur smiled. "Why not? Anne is pretty strong, I think. She's big. She could take care of you and your packs. She could intimidate the other Pokemons to not mess with you. I think it will be a great journey overall."
Still, he have to slip something in. "But you should remember to pack well before going on a journey. How about... you and me, we do some little jobs? Only take what you're interested in, that's the way of the free. With that money, you can pack enough for your journey. You can buy medicines to treat your Pokemon if they're hurt on the way... It'll be different from the cities, that's for sure. Either way, I'll help you, so you don't--" repeat my mistake. the last part of the sentence, he was unable to say it. The warmth that slowly slipped, the coughing, his refusal to show too much pain... the way he hums on the way, like singing his own elegy... it still felt fresh to him.
Azur's left hand slowly caressed his right arm, where he tattooed a wing there. "...Sorry, if I came too strong, just tell me off, alright?" he finally continued. It has been long time since then... Six? Five? He has lost count... yet the wound still fresh as if it was yesterday. Azur just smiled bitterly as he walked closer to the Pokemon Center. He was in that melancholic mood before what transpired next happened.
