Set in the original region of Arciel, Legends Rising is a route-inspired, but not strictly route-based, Pokemon roleplay. Pick a faction, pick a class, and strike out into the wild to take on the League, master Contest coordination, research the mysteries of Pokemon and Arciel, and much, much more. Will you be a classic trainer? A criminal? A farmer? Choose your destiny on Legends Rising.
To participate in the Swarm, first post in this thread looking for a Pokemon. A mod will tag you and reply with stats for one Pokemon you find, including color and possibly even evolution depending on the species. Reply again encountering and trying to capture the Pokemon. Once you succeed, do not post in the thread again.
You may only find one per character, no rerolls. This is to prevent spamming to find special Pokemon. If for any IC reason you need to encounter another, use the same stats originally rolled and pretend it's a different individual.
Pokemon in Swarms have a 20% chance of being a special coloration!
Pokemon in swarms have a +20% capture rate with any ball, and will never flee.
This swarm closes at 11:59pm site time on May 31. After that, no new encounters will be spawned. However, anyone who has an ongoing encounter that isn't yet finished has until 11:59pm on the 15th of the following month to finish trying to catch their encounter. After that, the thread will be locked and archived.
Waiting on a ferry can be hard work - especially when that ferry in question is irregular, and your traveling companion seems to have bad luck over every catching one...! As a result, Andrew had - at one point - decided to wander from Bass City to stretch his legs, and get away from the noise and hubbub of it all...
... It probably helped, that there was a Lotad swarm going on; something that easily caught Andrew's attention. It gave him an excuse to wander a bit, and Inari seemed curious as well. Who knows what they might find, wandering around out here...? Inari the Vulpix - Level 6 - 5/5 Energy Deadeye Claude the Clauncher - Level 3 - 5/5 Energy Larimar the Spheal - Level 2 - 5/5 Energy
When a Lotad would finally cross their path, the last thing that Andrew had expected was for the pokemon to be a strange color - a shiny Lotad..! The young man would be visibly awed over it - briefly debating trying to befriend it, but...
Deadeye Claude, lacking the ability to read the room or appreciate that this Lotad was shiny, didn't seem to exactly care what color a Lotad was. She matched his level, and looked to be a suitable challenge, so the crustacean was quick to try and pick a fight, much to Andrew's chagrin...! This, though, proved to be a mistake.
The Lotad, though docile, was willing to take Claude up on it - but was more of a match than the Clauncher expected..! Water guns didn't do much to a Water-Grass type, whereas the ghost-type Astonishes would whittle Claude down - occasionally flinching all the while...! It didn't take long until Claude was on his last legs - the Lotad all the while seeming to still be holding up alright.
Andrew, deciding that the safest way to defuse the fight - while also having a chance at catching the Lotad - was to throw a pokeball, would decide to step in now - lobbing that aforementioned pokeball at the shiny Lotad. Catching with a normal pokeball!
Route two was filled with funny little creatures. Pokemon of all kinds and it made Gilbert happy. When he had heard about the swarm the breeder of course had to make his way over to the location. Nancy jiggled by his side the shiny ditto also excited for the adventure. What he wanted most was for one of those special Arciel colorings but he wasn't too picky as a breeder. He loved pokemon and the chance to expand his collection was more than enough for him. As he walked through the route he grabbed his binoculars and stumbled upon the mass of Lotads. They were sitting in the rain enjoying what looked like a nap.
"Alright Nancy let's be really quiet okay. We don't want to disturb them." it also would make it easier to catch one. At least he was hoping it would have that effect. Gilbert got closer putting his binoculars away as he crouched down. Trying to single one out, his shiny ditto moving next to him. Nancy kept a close eye on the pokemon as well, they wanted to help their trainer as much as possible.
Well there did seem to be an average lotad sitting out of the bunch. He was looking curiously at Gilbert himself. As he crawled forward he crouched down near the pokemon who didn't seem to mind him. Nancy stayed behind to let the breeder do his work. After all he didn't want to startle the poor thing in fact the exact opposite in a way he wanted to recruit the lotad to be a part of his group. "Hey there little lotad." Gilbert smiled as the pokemon turned to him and became a bit defensive. It must have almost been like a guard for the swarm.
"I'm not here to hurt you, actually you see I'm a breeder and I'm interested in adding you to my team." he showed the pokemon a red pokeball and set it down. "I don't fight all that often, just to level up my main team. But you do what you want to do!" Gilbert looked over at Nancy. The shiny ditto wiggled a bit as then Gilbert returned his gaze to the lotad. It seemed curious, he poked at the pokeball for a moment and narrowed its eyes at Gilbert. Before it looked over at the sleeping lotads in the rain. "If you don't want to leave your friends its fine. But I'm certain they would be fine without you." He could tell maybe the lotad was tired. Still the pokemon curiously clicked the button on the ball and was sucked inside. Gilbert waited intensly to see the fate that would befall him.
Kimmy wasn't really interested in Lotad's. However it appeared that if she didn't take a chance to catch pokemon that she could sell or even trade for something better. She had grown to like some of her non fighting types anyway they helped a lot when it came to stealing that was for sure. As she clapped her hands she made her way through the rain. Digger at her side as the shiny stufful was more than excited for a fight. Kimmy grinned at the thought as she found the swarm in no time. Who could even resist watching the large swarm of lotad moving around the route anyway?!
"Alright Digger get ready." she warned him as Digger huffed in anticipation. Kimmy wanted a strong lotad so she stood and pointed to the group. "I challenge one of you to a battle!" she yelled out enthusiastically. Waiting patiently to see which one would come forward. Whichever lotad was brave enough to face her would be worthy of being caught. After all if she didn't like the pokemon some other trainer most definitely would be interested in it. She liked to act like she was cruel but she loved pokemon too much for that.
A lombre came out to greet her and while Kimmy had been looking for something more exciting. However she would take what she could get as Digger himself seemed to be ready as he'd ever be. "Okay Digger" Kimmy said as the stufful pushed himself forward. The lombre was ready for it, he seemed to smile almost as he swung his arms and stared directly at the stufful waiting for him to pull a move. Kimmy though wanted to see what the lombre would do so the wild pokemon shot forward with a water gun. Digger was hit by the water forcing him back but the stufful was ready. The stufful flew forward with his limbs, a stomping tantrum forcing the lombre back.
"Alright Digger be careful." Kimmy knew Digger could handle himself but that was uncalled for. The lombre shot forward to hit Digger with a knock off, the stufful grunted in pain as Kimmy clenched her fists. "Alright use tackle and I'll throw a pokeball." she was reaching for the regular pokeball. Digger shot forward to use tackle, as the lombre fell into a teeter dance. Once he was done however Kimmy was ready as she tossed the ball at the pokemon in front of her.

Another day, another swarm, Lotad this time. The dual grass water type was quite the formidable combo. Water protected grass from its primary weakness to fire while grass protected water from both its weakness to electric and grass. One had to think unconventionally when going up against the dual type, especially its final evolution, Ludicolo.
Elizabeth had never been one for specializing and could be considered a 'jack of all trades' sort. She collected any and all types of pokemon as she had a bit of that 'boy scout' mindset of always being prepared. Plus from a military standpoint it was always good to have a strategic team. Being able to have ones pick of any kind of pokemon would always prove valuable. But the true, underlining motivation was always the same, to make new friends and grow her pokemon family. That almost childlike idealism still clung to the ranger each time they encountered a new pokemon.
Thus why she and her team were once more scouting the route for this latest swarm of pokemon. The ranger was accompanied per usual by Tansy and Raya, but some less familiar pokemon were wandering with her today. Liz was on foot alongside the overgrown venusaur with one hand resting on the grass type's head as they walked. Raya had taken up position on Liz's opposite side the lucario not one to leave the ranger's flank unguarded.
Evan had the honor of riding atop the venusaur's head, the silvery little fox gazed ahead eagerly glad to be out with his trainer and the others. Julius strode proudly along behind the ranger though looked a little put out he hadn't been allowed to catch a ride on the poisonous grass type. The blaziken could oft be rather self-centered.
Somewhere ahead Xanthe was racing around like a lunatic, tearing up the route as fast as her paws would carry her. She too was most excited at being let loose to just run. And somewhere in the grass, Salazar slithered along, occasionally poking his head out of the grass to check on the others. The serpent was surprisingly congenial for a sevpier.

Sure enough a lombre was spotted along the beach showing off for some of the nearby beach goers. He seemed rather pleased with himself and the ranger paused to watch with the others. The lombre seemed to pick up on their presence and turned toward the group with a wary gaze. He flexed and ran a finger across the brim of his lilypad almost as if he were daring them to approach.
"Seems like a good challenge for you Salazar."
The ranger glanced into the waving grass to the seviper who raised his head up, tongue flicking between his teeth. The serpent grinned and slithered forward onto the sand then coiled his body into a striking position. The lombre clasped his hands together and watched the snake cautiously.
"Alright Sal, let's strike hard and fast. Swords Dance into Poison Tail."
Elizabeth instructed, the telepathic words traveling to the serpent instantly. Salazar hissed and raised himself up to full height from the coiled position. Swords flashed around him for a brief moment as his own power grew. Lombre however readied his own attack. A tan glow began in the dual type's hands then as the lombre stretched his hands out the very earth beneath Salazar began to tremble then burst upward smashing into the serpent and sending him flying.
Liz and the others winced as the seviper landed with a thud back into the sand. The attack had hit hard, and the snake wasn't looking too hot. However Salazar struggled back up right hissing with effort. He narrowed his eyes and gathered himself before lunging forward and spinning his body around with surprising speed. His tail lashed out like a whip and glowed with a bright purple gleam. It slammed into the lombre smacking the dual type into the sand as well.
"Nicely done Sal, hang in there just a bit longer now."
Now both pokemon looked to be on their last legs. With Nature Power transforming to Earth Power the lombre had a strong advantage over the poisonous snake. Though naturally the seviper's venom was strong against the grass half of the lombre, thus the two were pretty evenly matched. Liz pulled a pokeball from her stash and quickly lobbed it at the lombre. Salazar likely couldn't take another hit like that, plus she also didn't want to outright faint the lombre.

Liam... needed a Water-type, he'd decided. With two Grass-types and an Ice/Steel-type of all things, he was at considerable risk of fire damage. Plus having a Water-type was practically a staple for an effective Ranger to be able to deal with forest fires and other issues. He couldn't believe he'd gone this long without them, really, but he had wound up working city beats more than out in the countryside in recent months, so he supposed it was at least vaguely forgivable.
Now, of course he could just trip and fall into any old Water-type on the beaches around here, but Liam had something special in mind. There were supposed to be Lotad swarming right now, and with them a special uniquely colored Lotad with a Pokeball-marked lilypad. How cute was that? Moreover, he suspected special Pokemon colors would fare well in Contests if he ever got around to trying them. So you know? Why not? He could always look for other Water-types as well. But he'd at least try his luck looking for a Lotad first!
With Cosette at his side, they walked along the beach, eyes peeled.

As Liam and Cosette walked along the beach, eventually a rather large Lombre toddled into view from up ahead. "Oh?" How disappointing, it wasn't the Pokeball-patterned one. But oh well! It was still a Water-type, and Liam could reasonably try to catch this one and release it if he happened across the one he wanted later, right?
"Excuse me, Lombre!" he called out, grabbing the Pokemon's attention as he drew closer. "Might you be willing to spar with my partner and I?" The Lombre lazily tilted her head, but then shrugged and moved into a better position before squaring up. "Thank you!"
Cosette didn't exactly want to fight, but sighed and got ready too. "All right, Cosette! Signal Beam!" The Bug-type move surprised the Lombre, and did quite a bit of damage, but she was able to stave off a little of it with a Mega Drain. Cosette then tried a Confusion, but while it did damage it did not confuse the Lombre. The Lombre returned with Bubblebeam, and Cosette used another Signal Beam.
Liam decided that was enough, and tossed out a Pokeball.
