To participate in the Swarm, first post in this thread looking for a Pokemon. A mod will tag you and reply with stats for one Pokemon you find, including color and possibly even evolution depending on the species. Reply again encountering and trying to capture the Pokemon. Once you succeed, do not post in the thread again.
You may only find one per character, no rerolls. This is to prevent spamming to find special Pokemon. If for any IC reason you need to encounter another, use the same stats originally rolled and pretend it's a different individual.
Pokemon in Swarms have a 20% chance of being a special coloration!
Pokemon in swarms have a +20% capture rate with any ball, and will never flee.
This swarm closes at 11:59pm site time on May 31. After that, no new encounters will be spawned. However, anyone who has an ongoing encounter that isn't yet finished has until 11:59pm on the 15th of the following month to finish trying to catch their encounter. After that, the thread will be locked and archived.
Peeps was a beloved edition to Gabe’s Fire Pokemon cohort. She was absolutely tiny and absolutely gentle. Her caring disposition and try-hard nature made her get along with even those outside of it, and overall, she was very well beloved. But for as hard as she worked, as much as she tried, she wasn’t destined to be a hard-core battle Pokemon. And for all she was and all she wasn’t, Peeps herself accepted that. Over her time with Gabe and company, she found she actually preferred to be a pet, a companion Pokemon, a friend to those who needed it. She liked snuggling up to cooler Pokemon and being adored by them. It was nice.
But she still startled just a little bit when he went barreling for the Grumble Volcano after hearing about a Torchic swarm occurring there. She couldn’t help the sudden sharp fear that jumped into her veins when he called on Lizbeth and company to go and find one of the swarm: perhaps a Combusken or Blaziken even. And so she elbowed her way into going with him and Liz, and now here she was awkwardly walking around the volcano path searching for… for… for potentially her replacement. She… she was afraid, sad, and anxious. And every time she caught a look from Lizbeth, she didn’t know what to think. And that worried her more.
Gabe didn’t even seem to notice, too zeroed in on the potential new Pokemon. And she hated him for that.
Meanwhile, it was Gabe and Peeps that were actively being watched. Sitting in a tree and partially hidden by foliage, the blue Blaziken watched her targets mischievously. They were looking for something red, something orange, something that very much belonged to the volcano, and the unintended camouflage of her coloring was her advantage.
The Blaziken’s attention, however, was drawn to the strange way the Torchic was walking. Was it just… trying to get a better step on the loose gravel? No…. there was something else. Squinting, the Blaziken could almost say the Torchic had no front digits, somehow? What could have possibly caused that? Strange, very strange. She felt sorry for such a small creature… sorry that she wanted to mess with it so badly tehehehe.
Her eyes flickered over to the trainer again who she froze on realizing he was looking in her direction. It was… it was just a fluke, though, right? Yes, he was looking away. Surely he hadn’t actually s— “Found you….” What? How???
Gabe smirked a little as he stared up into the tree. He’d missed it before, but now he was sure of it. Those thoughts were coming from somewhere, and somewhere it was. “Peeps, look up,” was the order. The Torchic did so and immediately jumped back in alarm. The Blaziken huffed and jumped down from the tree. Well, that ruined her fun for the moment. No matter. She’d just do things the old-fashioned way. Stomping her foot, she caused it to break into bright flames.
Peeps was afraid. She was afraid of this large blue bird that was clearly special in color and strong as hell. She’d be replaced immediately after Gabe caught the Blaziken, and it hurt. It hurt so much. A cry escaped from her! She would fight! To keep her spot! And those thoughts for all they were and all they weren’t rang out loud and clear to Gabe. His lips twitched a little. He’d never seen the tiny, gentle creature so fired up. Still, as the Blaziken leapt into the air and set her foot ablaze, the size discrepancy alone was enough to assure everyone this would be an uphill fight.
Shit shit shit shit— “Get out of the way, Peeps!” Gabe called already reaching for another Pokeball. There was no way he was going to let her endanger herself like thi— A blaze of fire encompassed the Torchic before she twirled about in a Fire Spin just barely avoiding the crushing blow of the foot. Gabe froze for a moment watching as Peeps twisted around and then immediately seemed to glow red with Focus Energy. She was… she was really doing this. “Peeps…” The Blaziken twisted around and Focused Energy back glowing bright purple back. “Shit—“ In a flash of light, Lizbeth was released. “Liz—“
<Don’t!> Peep’s scream echoed out. Liz straightened. Gabe fidgeted.
“Why— You can’t match that—“ The Blaziken was already kicking forward with various short jump kicks, each of which the Torchic managed to Fire Spin away from at the last minute. “She really could—“ And then a kick landed and had her sailing backwards and slamming into a rock. Gabe winced. Liz grimaced. The Blaziken huffed a little and straightened again. That Torchic had something to her, but it was not enough. Turning towards the Charmeleon, the Blaziken stared down a far mor worthy challenger. Liz growled.
“Peeps!” Gabe left Lizbeth and the Blaziken to duke it out as he closed the distance between himself and the Torchic who was very very close to fainting. Bending down to her, Gabe froze on finding her eyes glossy with tears. “You didn’t… have to do that…” he muttered. The Torchic peeped back.
<I didn’t… I didn’t want to be replaced… I don’t… I don’t wanna be … be….> The Torchic couldn’t even finish her thought as she sniffled and dissolved into tears.
Guilt hit Gabe like a truck. For a solid second, he didn’t even know what to do with himself. How could he have… how could he have left … let his Pokemon… any of his Pokemon… feel like… they were replaceable. The way… the way she made him feel. How could he even….begin to…. to…
“I’m…. I’m so sorry, Peeps…” Gabe fidgeted before wrapping both arms around the Torchic and lifting her up, hugging her close. “I never meant to make you feel like that. I’m so sorry. I’m so so so sorry….” Feeling through her soft downy feathers, Gabe continued to murmur. “I never want you to feel like that… You’re not replaceable. You’ll never be. I wasn’t looking for someone to take your place. You’re fine as you are.” The Torchic wasn’t sure. She could never be sure. She was enough? She couldn’t entirely believe. But that hold was tight. And his words were nice.
As Liz and the Blaziken duked it out, a bright light broke through the area causing them both to turn. The tiny Torchic in Gabe’s arms began to grow in size. Those soft downy feathers became a bit rougher… And Gabe found himself hugged back just as tightly now by a new pair of arms. Peeps chirped out and hugged Gabe harder still. The Blaziken hummed a little. Now that was a bit more worthy of an adversary. Looking back at the Charmeleon, she tilted her head sideways. Liz huffed and folded her arms in waiting. It was on Gabe’s orders after all.
“Peeps… you don’t have to … you know…” The now-Combusken still pulled away and turned to the Blaziken again. Readier now. A soft breath drew in and out of Gabe. “Alright, fine then.” And even on her tiny feet, the Combusken stepped forward… ready to fight again.
The Blaziken leapt in the air, raising her foot in a High Jump Kick once more, but ths time the Combusken used her better developed feet to run sideways avoiding the attack. The Blaziken sailed into the ground and flinched at the damage. The Combusken stood… ready again. She felt… so much stronger, but that damage had not entirely disappeared. Not yet. Still, she could do this. Gabe had assured her she was there to stay. The only thing that was at stake now was her pride. And that was growing by the moment.
A Blaze Kick was coming at her, and Peeps was debating whether to run or not… and then decided no. Cutting into the ground with the hook of her bottom claw, she circled around and raised it just as the Blaze Kick came at her. One Kick. And then she slammed her foot on the ground and kicked with the second. Two Kick. The Blaziken hissed as her knee was kicked in. Struggling, she managed to get to standing again only to take a knee right after.
Fine then. The Blaziken would accept this loss. Gabe took in a breath before tossing a Great Ball at.
"Whew, it's hot!" a red haired boy sighed inside a small cave. Beside him is a sizeable Riolu who's currently laying on the ground, legs crossed in idle manner. He's the bodyguard, he's the one who will protect his partner... while the said boy is chipping through rock layers to find any sort of items... He's pretty good at it, to be honest. True enough, not a long time later, he's already getting his first one... "Oh, it's a Pink Shard!" Agate exclaimed. Then another, then another... then another, until he finally got four colored shards. A red, a cyan, a yellow and two pinks. There's also Geode, but what's it used for? No idea for the meantime.
"Oooh, look at this, Riku!" Agate showed him an item that's... strangely placed. Agate looked at the book he's carrying. It's an Icium Z! But why here? No idea, don't care all that much either! It's a rare found, that's all that's important! The crystal shines brightly, making Agate smile happily. "You know, this might be my first treasure ever since we came here! I mean, the shards are great, but Icium Z is like a punch, you know! Anyway, I'm done here, thanks for waiting!"
Riku let out a cry of affirmation. The Pokemon and human walked out toward the entrance... "Hmmm, you know what, Riku? Lately my eyes been acting strange... It's like I'm seeing colors around people or something... I wonder why? ...Hey, it's acting again! See! I'm seeing something on the corner over there..." Agate quickly ran toward the source. It... revealed itself to be a small marble-like stone. "Hmmm... don't know what this is either, Riku. I never seen it before. Nothing said in the book either... But I'm sure it'll be important. It's strange... like, it's emitting flame-like colors?"
...Riku did not answer. "Riku?"
Out of sudden, Agate understood why his Pokemon isn't saying anything. Outside, there... seem to be a swarm! "...Uwoh!?"
No good no good. What's going on in here!? Did he came at unfortunate time!? Oh dear... "It wasn't supposed to be like this even! But I guess we should just take the positive, right, Riku? Time to catch a fire Pokemon!" the Riolu cried in approval. Party: Riku (Riolu) lv 5 Azalea (Frillish) lv 8
...What appeared in front of Agate ended up to be a Torchic! But... they look small? It doesn't seem to want to fight too, but... Riku struck first. He greeted it, which the Torchic greeted back in return. There's something, akin to an understanding. Riku cried out several times, inviting the Torchic to join the team. The Torchic seem to be understanding, but at the same time was not quite convinced? Riku understood, he's not a Pokemon with tons of words. He's a Pokemon who talks through his action. The moment he heard her refusal unless he prove himself, the Riolu put on a fighting stance and taunted the Torchic.
"...Are you sure this is wise?" Agate asked. Riku nodded, and cried at him like saying that the Torchic is asking for it. The battle began. Agate lets the two duke it out by themselves. The Torchic is small, and probably weaker than Riku, but even so, their size difference made it easier for the Torchic to dodge Riku's blows. They scratched at Riku at close range. The Riolu did not feel it that much. It's fine, completely fine. With a growl, Riku punched at the Torchic with a Quick Attack! It hits the target, but wasn't enough to significantly harm it it seems.
Now knowing that its opponent have a fast attack, the Torchic let out a Growl. Riku gritted his teeth. He's at disadvantage now. His power going to drop further if he doesn't end this fast! Another quick attack jab! The move was softened by Growl and now deals less damage than usual! The Torchic keeps growling while dodging, trying to lower Riku's power enough. The Riolu meanwhile is struggling. He tried to make his attack counts, but it's hard... He currently only have physical moves! After six times growling, Agate could tell that his partner is dealing very minimum damage on the Torchic.
"Riku! Stay on defensive for now!"
Defensive? The Riolu does not understand, but he brought his arm together in a guarding boxing stance. The Torchic Scratches descends on him. Drats... he can't keep this up.
"Riku, the moment the Torchic tries to aim for your leg, crouch and toss!"
Crouch and toss... Ah! Just right at that time, the Torchic came charging at him, ready with a scratching kick. Riku lowered himself down, then pushes her above! At that moment... He did a special move he has been saving for this time! Riku twisted around and brought his left hook upward! it's a Sky Uppercut!
With it hitting the target squarely, Agate tossed a Pokeball! Pokeball Go!
Torchic were cute Pokemon, and Sid had come to terms with the fact that they just naturally liked cute Pokemon! There was nothing wrong with that, either! So here they were! Searching the base of the Grumble volcano searching for an elusive (hopefully not too elusive) member of the Torchic swarm.
“Hm… do you see anything yet, Arthur?” Sid asked the Riolu at their side. The small blue pup closed his eyes and sensed the area for a moment before opening his eyes again and giving a shake of head. Nothing yet! Well then. “Let’s keep going then,” Sid nodded more to themselves than him as they started walking again. Arthur gave a small salute and a yip before bounding after Sid, determined to help!
Sid and Arthur continued on searching for any signs of the small orange and yellow bird. So caught-up in the idea of finding something small, were they, that both almost completely missed the Blaziken that was meditating up on some high rocks.
It would be Arthur to take that double take, in fact. The red hue of the bird looked similar to the red in the rocks, but not quite! And he was quick to yip and bounce up and down upon seeing it. Sid’s eyes flashed in his direction and immediately widened in alarm. That was… that was most definitely not a Torchic. It was one of what they were looking for, though. “Are… you up for it, Arthur?” they asked uncertainly. The Riolu squinted and then immediately cried out towards the Blaziken. Sid supposed that was a yes either way they looked at it.
The Blaziken had been resting, calm and relaxed as he was. The cry of another Pokemeon had him opening an eye and then squinting at the puppy Pokemon it landed on. Sid bit the inside of their mouth unsure of how this was gonna go. “Swords Dance, Arthur,” they ordered quickly. The Riolu was quick to summon up some energy and start the dance in a circle. The clang of bladed energy was enough to have the Blaziken at least a little more interested. Getting up, he Bulked Up in turn. The Riolu returned with a Swords Dance. The Blaziken Bulked Up again.
Sid sweat dropped as they watched this …. Progressively…. Become a flex-off. “Arthur maybe use—“ Nope, that was the Riolu showing off his muscles and the Blaziken complimenting them only to flex back and receive compliments in turn. Well, fine then. Sid took in a breath, stepped sideways, and flexed as well. The Blaziken and Riolu turned and immediately started complimenting them too! What good muscle! Color immediately filled Sid’s features, but they went on to do another pose, and soon it was just… a flexathon.
It was… it was actually kind of fun? Kinda. At least until the Blaziken and Riolu started doing hand stands and cartwheels and flexing all the way. And then expecting Sid to do the same. They tried and awkward handstand, but the ground was rough, and their balance wasn’t great. Even when Arthur came over and held their legs, it was a wonky sort of stability. And then the Blaziken decided it would be funny to grab both their legs and lift them straight off the ground to which Sid sputtered and squirmed upside down for a short bit. The Blaziken laughed, but Arthur was quick to persuade him to put them down again, thankfully.
Once righted again, Sid relaxed some and sighed. “Blaziken…. I really like you,” they admitted. “And I know Arthur does too…would you come with us, maybe?” they asked shifting to pull out a Pokeball, enlarge it, and hold it forward.
Using a Premier Ball (50% cap + 20 % = 70%) Rolling for a strength up for all that flexing: AkbASucYp_
The Blaziken flexed again, reached for the Pokeball, and disappeared inside. Sid smiled— at least until the ball snapped open and released the Blaziken. “Uh???” Sid blinked. Arthur the Riolu tilted his head to one side. The Blaziken was equally confused and looked at his own still flexing arm and slowly put it down before trying again…. Take two? Less flex?
Snap, that was the ball opening again and the Blaziken standing there staring now confused. “I’ve… never seen this happen before, dude???” Sid stated-asked. “Are you like conflicted or???” The Blaziken shook his head! He was really impressed with Sid and Arthur! He wanted to flex with them all the time!
Sid looked down at the Pokeball. Maybe, maybe he was too powerful for a simple Pokeball??? They checked their pockets for another Pokeball but only found yet another Premier Ball. “Third time is the charm?” they asked holding up the Pokeball again uncertainly.
Oh, what was the Blaziken doing? Pushups? Why? Sid looked down at him for a moment before guessing half-assuming that he was trying to get some nervous energy out or something. Arthur had already bent down and started copying him, so??? Yeah. Once they were doing, Sid offered the Pokeball again.
Third time was not the charm. Sid looked down at the Pokeball. The Blaziken was tilting his head and making a lost confused face. A sound escaped from him with a question that Sid didn’t need a translation for: Is it broken? “I don’t…. think so???” Sid ask-stated as they twisted it around in their hands a little. Arthur tapped his chin a couple of times before an idea hit! Maybe they needed to tire him out first! More workouts! More flex! He cried out happily about this, and the Blaziken seemed to nod. Yes! Clearly he was too powered after all of those Bulk Ups! They must work out first!
And…. Sid found themselves dragged into an almost hour long training montage of running, climbing, sparring (between the Blaziken and Arthur mostly), and a number of other activities that only served to tire them out rather than actually tire the Pokemon out. Still, all the same, they offered the Pokeball weakly again. Maybe now they would get somewhere?
gQ1qF0|tp_ - FAILED strength roll lmao.
