Set in the original region of Arciel, Legends Rising is a route-inspired, but not strictly route-based, Pokemon roleplay. Pick a faction, pick a class, and strike out into the wild to take on the League, master Contest coordination, research the mysteries of Pokemon and Arciel, and much, much more. Will you be a classic trainer? A criminal? A farmer? Choose your destiny on Legends Rising.
A loud crash abruptly interrupted Shalin's work on her tent, immediately followed by the sound of battle. Particularly loud battle at that. She turned around, seeing Kiku staring down a Nidoking roughly the size of her riding Pokémon. The Nidorino Kiku had been chatting with had apparently made its daddy aware of the explorer's presence, and Daddy indeed came...rolling his tongue around his mouth. Mmmm...fresh meat. The powerful behemoth roared and stomped repeatedly with its great weight, causing a cascade of falling trees to encircle Shalin and her tent on three sides, the Nidoking guarding the fourth. There was no escape...not without felling this hungry wild.
"We gotta go, now!" The blonde shouted, rushing back inside the tent and recalled all her Pokémon other than Kiku, who was actively engaging the rival poison-type. He was still Infested, too, meaning no Pokémon medicine would work on her. As much as of an environmentalist as Shalin was, nothing was off limits when it came to her life. Forest fires occur naturally - if she had to cause a big fire to escape with her life, that's what it would come down to. "Kiku, use your Flamethrower!" Shalin cried. The Skuntank dug his paws into the ground to anchor himself before pointing his musk-filled tail at Nidoking.
The gentle but impulsive Skuntank's aim was right on the mark - the hulking Pokémon's face was singed! An excellent blow! Though the wild felt like its face was melting, all it seemed to do was drive the foe to greater anger. It lowered its head and went for Kiku's neck with its giant horn. He tried to sidestep the attack, not able to avoid it completely. At least the horn missed all of his vital organs.
Seeing how effective the fires were, Shalin called for them again. "Again, Kiku! Burn the rest of your musk if you have to!" After discharging the rest of his ignited musk into the Nidoking's chest, it was steaming. Letting out another roar, the tall poison-type dove toward Kiku horn-first, Kiku sidestepping this one in a move that made Shalin's heart skip a beat.
Kiku was out of ammunition, though - all he could rely on after that were his own claws. He bravely ran up to the foe and reared high enough to reach up to where the burned skin was and slash across it. Though the angry wild was looking battered and bruised, it seemed to draw out anger-fueled strength. There was no dodging this Megahorn to the neck, Shalin immediately recalling a Kiku that was having trouble breathing.
As injured as Serena was, Shalin felt the Persian was going to be the best bet at finishing off the Nidoking. "See if you can cut at its chest!" the blonde cried, the adrenaline rush the only thing keeping her alive inside the circle of fallen trees that was starting to catch fire. She ran back into the tent and grabbed her pack. With how fast the fire was spreading, her tent and sleeping bag were both a lost cause. Those could be replaced; her life could not.
The Persian reached for Nidoking's chest, baiting him into covering it with one claw so she could quickly rake at the other. She winced in pain from her previous joint injury, which gave the Nidoking enough time to grab Serena, fling her into the air, and perform a clean stab with his Megahorn.
Prance was the only Pokémon Shalin had that was at full capacity, and she was weak compared to the rest of her team. "...Girl, I'm counting on you," a crying Shalin encouraged. If Prance fell...well, she didn't want to think about it. Her first instinct was right. This daddy Nidoking was a complete savant with that Megahorn, running it right through the normal-type, as well.
There was no point whatsoever in subjecting Sol to any more pain than he was already in. Now, there was only one Pokémon that could save her: Flit, one of the first Pokémon Shalin had bonded with in Arciel. He was her favorite Pokémon; she had saved him from certain doom many times as a Yanma. Now, it was his turn to save her. He instinctively tried to vibrate, but could barely move his wings - they were still badly hurt. The girl let Caprice out of her Poké Ball and mounted up in case Flit fell - it would be her last act of desperation to get out of these woods alive.
Taking advantage of the Yanmega's inability to fly, and thus, the inability to use what made the species so deadly, the Nidoking grabbed Flit by his face and raised him high into the air, looking to squash the bug beneath its own weight.
Big mistake.
The brave, desperate insect clamped down on the claw with his mandibles, the wounded Nidoking letting out a roar before falling toward the ignited logs.
It was over.
Recalling the bewildered Yanmega, Shalin coaxed the tired Ninetales into a canter, heading nowhere but south. She needed to make it out of these woods as quickly as she could...which was going to be a day's travel, best case scenario. With no tent or sleeping bag, a forced march was looking more and more like the only way out. Even with Caprice's Ember to light the way, travel by night would still be incredibly dangerous...but so would sleeping. It was a "#&$^ed if you do, #&$^ed if you don't" situation.
The girl still had one vial of that putrid, Poison Pokémon-attracting liquid that seemed to work as advertised...but with apex predators like Nidoking wandering the woods, using that now would be suicide. She was beginning to understand why the secrets of the Sequoia Forest had stayed secret for so long - the Pokémon here were vicious, able to easily overwhelm even strong trainers. It wouldn't stop her from coming back here, though. She just wouldn't do it alone.

Injury rolls are needed for Prance, Kiku, and Serena. Flit is also poisoned if that warrants a roll.

The next couple of miles went surprisingly smoothly, Caprice able to slow down to a comfortable canter. While they were making good pace, there was no way the two were making it back to Maple until well after sundown. Furthermore, she had to defend Caprice at all costs - she was the only light source left. With almost no medical supplies left, she would need to make what little she had last. As much as she didn't want the poisoned Yanmega to suffer, she couldn't risk using her remaining Full Heal on anything less than dire, especially since it seemed there were a wide variety of Pokémon on the forest.
Another crashing noise echoed behind Shalin, this one similar to when the Nidoking barged next to her tent. She turned around to see...a Nidoqueen. This was even worse than the Nidoking coming back to drag her to the den - it was the wife! A very angry wife at that! "Faster, Caprice!" Shalin dug into the Ninetales' sides. Though she could easily outrun the Nidoqueen, this was the wild's turf. One wrong turn and she would be trapped again.

The golden runner understood the severity of the situation, obeying her trainer and beating feet south, zigging and zagging on occasion in an effort to lose the Nidoqueen. After a chase that lasted several miles, the slower Pokémon gave up and turned around. Once she was sure that she was in the clear, the girl released all three Pokémon that were felled by the Nidoking, checking on them. Nothing appeared broken - they were just all out cold. Phew, finally she caught a break. With Serena's paws still swollen from her previous injury, it was best to just let her sleep. She administered Max Revive to Kiku, the miracle medicine arousing her and waking her, just as if she had been healed at a Pokémon Center. The trainer smiled as soon as she heard Kiku's snorting, never glad to hear it this much since arriving in Arciel. Recalling the Skuntank, Shalin carefully continued south.

Close to an hour after escaping the Nidoqueen, Shalin passed by a stream she remembered from yesterday - a sign she was indeed headed the correct direction to leave the forest. She leaned low on Caprice and squeezed the golden Pokémon's sides, making a graceful jump over the small body of water and to the other side. A minute or so after landing from her jump, something big struck Caprice from behind at high speed, a loud, pained cry Shalin's indication that the Ninetales was suffering from stabbing pain due to her assailant's Rollout attack.

Caprice bucked and kicked hard from the impact of the spike-laden Rollout. Shalin tried to get her back under control but was unsuccessful, a particularly strong flex of her back sending the green-dressed rider flying off her mount and rolling into the drink behind her. Acting quickly, she tossed a Quick Ball at the Quilladin, who was revving up for a follow-up Rollout attack. Though she didn't intend on catching the grass-type to begin with, these types of Poké Balls came in handy for situations where her medical supplies were stretched thin.

Her clothes dripping with fresh water, Shalin slowly climbed out of the stream and sat down next to Caprice to dry off. The Ninetales had retrieved her catch, which she planned on releasing back into the wild as soon as she made it back to the Pokémon Center. She set her bag down and started to take stock of her medical supplies. She was down to her last few basic Potions and a lone Hyper Potion. Caprice wasn't looking too well - she had suffered a blow from behind.
As she began spraying her Ninetales, a wandering, aged trainer passed by Shalin and asked if she was okay. After the rider expressed concerns of how she was in over her head, the generous lady offered to have her Flareon watch over her while she patched up her Pokémon. Grateful for the offer, she could now focus entirely on healing her battered team. Thankfully, Caprice's wound was a simple blunt force wound, although a moderate to heavy one. Nothing copious application of Potion couldn't fix. After going through three of them, that being half her stock, she thanked the wandering trainer before climbing back onto her trusty fire-type and continuing south. It was starting to get dark, too - not a good sign. She had lost a lot of time licking her wounds.

While there was still some natural light in the woods, Shalin asked Caprice to stop for a few minutes. She took the opportunity to make sure the most important pieces of equipment were at the top of each pocket of her bag. The pocket containing her medicine was dreadfully empty, down to a single dose of Revive, two vials of Potion, and one vial of Hyper Potion. All of this needed to last the rest of her trip through the Sequoias. At night.
Shalin then emptied out her Poké Ball pocket to make sure all of her Quick Balls were on top when putting them back away, Caprice watching her intently. "Can you stand on the other side of me, please? I can't see." The smart Ninetales responded by igniting the tips of each of her golden tails, a small flame flickering from each. "...Or that. Thanks." There was one additional Great Ball than she remembered carrying. Did that traveling trainer slip that in with her things? Unlikely, but however it got there, she was happy.
After another few uneventful miles, the sun had completely set. Caprice raised her tails above her back, as though she was going to perform some kind of fire attack. Not only did it shed light ahead of the trotting Ninetales, but it kept the rider warm during her southward trek. She wished she could say the finish line was in sight...but she wasn't seeing too much of anything even with Caprice's help.

After several more miles of travel southward, the forest had turned pitch black, the only light being cast coming from Caprice's tails. Shalin urged her mount to go faster, but the Ninetales couldn't add very much speed without letting her tails flap backward, making it impossible for the girl to see anywhere except behind her. If she really wanted to, she could ride backwards, letting the golden fox rely on her superior vision and watching for threats from behind...but her saddle was not designed for that at all. One rough kick and she would go flying into the ignited tails...an outcome she did not want to think about.
While trotting through the woods, Caprice tripped on a tree root, stumbling and testing her rider's balance. She let out a yelp as Shalin may have pulled on her fur a little too hard. The fire-type instinctively reared, startling her trainer. Even for a trainer who loved rough-and-tumble riding, such a move coming unexpectedly was a bit of a jump. The sound of scattering Apricorn fruit echoed in the night, Shalin realizing she hadn't closed that pocket of her bag all the way! The blonde dismounted, Caprice helping her pick up her lost Apricorns. Working together, she and the Ninetales managed to recover her entire stock, plus two additional pink ones. Score!

The darkness makes it truly impossible to see where you're going, and the density and size of the trees makes it impossible to keep to a straight path. You're sure you've been traveling southward, but as you finally come into a small clearing and look to the stars overhead... something isn't right. There's the North Star in front of you. When did you get turned around? How long have you been traveling north, and how far is it back to safety? There's no telling now.
Before you can decide what to do next, however, there is a sudden movement to your right. You look, but see only the silhouettes of trees. Then there is a cracking sound, like something heavy stepping on a branch, and one of the smaller "trees" just past the edge of the clearing moves. It turns around, and a brown camouflaged back gives way to a bright white front. The Pokemon steps forward.
Between the dark and its size it's hard to tell for just a moment, but then it clicks. This is a Decidueye, every bit of 20 feet tall. A true giant of the forest. Caprice backs up, but the Decidueye bends down to look at the two of you with strange eyes. You cannot tell whether it feels sympathetic or hungry, but then it turns and begins walking north. After just a second, it stops, looks back to you, nods in the direction it's headed, and waits. Is it asking you to follow it...? And will you?
Shalin got excited when she saw the light of the stars up ahead. Light meant the trees had to be getting less and less dense - she was almost out! Good thing, too - she hadn't gotten a full night's sleep in about three-quarters of a day. Excited to see light as well, though how dim it was, Caprice dropped her lit tails to be comfortably behind her back and took off running. The light source was the reflection of the moon, shining into a clearing, trees taller and more dense than she'd ever seen during either day of her trip through the Sequoia Forest. That was when she came to a cruel epiphany.
She had never turned around at all.
Her moral compass having failed her, she was stuck probably two days' journey out now, with three of her Pokémon in serious condition, and Caprice completely drained of energy to fight. Shalin fell half asleep on Caprice's back for a few minutes before a cracking sound aroused her. What looked like a small tree was moving. Caprice got a little closer and pointed her lit tails toward the moving figure, revealing a Decidueye that was easily four times her size. This must have been one of the giant Pokémon that was a guardian of the forest. While she would normally be enthusiastic to see something like this, she was so tired that her usual perkiness was nowhere to be found. "Do you know...where we can rest...?" she asked the surreal ghost-type, Caprice nodding toward the colossal Decidueye and walking in the same direction.

The Decidueye leads Caprice for a good 10 minutes, taking a winding path that makes it difficult to keep your bearings. However, eventually, there is light ahead once again. However, this doesn't look like moonlight. There's a tinge of color to it, and it seems to be gently pulsing in and out. As you draw nearer, the trees thin out once again.
You enter another glade, but this one seems to be more hidden away, almost like a den of sorts. Massive branches stretch overhead, with just enough space between them to see a few stars and allow a few beams of moonlight to litter the forest floor, but not enough to make out any constellations or provide worthwhile light. No, the light here comes from a Galarian Rapidash lying on the far side of the glade. While you can't tell exactly between the distance and her position, she seems roughly the same size as the Decidueye. Around her are a Simisage, Simisear, and Simipour, all huge by their species standards, but not true giants like the others. They seem to be grooming her mane and tail, which pulse with light due to her contentment. Flowers of all colors litter the ground between you and her.
The Decidueye hoots softly, and she looks up. He hoots again, and gestures to you and Caprice. The Rapidash looks directly to you, and you sense nothing but warmth and kindness emanating from her, very unlike the difficult to read Decidueye. Though subtle, you are sure she smiles. She looks to her companions and sniffs lightly. The monkey trio look to her for a moment, then all heed her request and race off into the woods. She stands, and her mane and tail glow brightly as the black stripes on her horn pulse with a dark purple light.
At that signal, you suddenly hear many excited squeaks, and a moment later you watch a good dozen or more Comfey rise up from the field of flowers, bringing about half of those flowers with them. They float and bob around eagerly, looking you over, but not approaching just yet.
A voice enters your mind. <You look weary, young one. Come closer, and my friends and I can heal you and your companions.>
Shalin rubbed her eyes upon seeing the light source. This wasn't moonlight or sunlight, from what she could tell - it had to be some form of bio-luminescence. The closest parallel she could come up with was the glowing moss in the bottom of the Glowworm Caverns. Arciel was just full of amazing surprises!
When she was led into the grove proper, she couldn't believe her eyes. The dead of night brought out more beauty in the grove than anything she had ever seen. Anything in Johto, Hoenn, or what she had seen of Arciel so far came nowhere close. There were dense trees densely surrounding the clearing as far as the eye could see. There was absolutely no way a human could find this place unaided.
Next, her eyes were drawn to an equine Pokémon she had never seen before. It had a horn akin to a Rapidash, but that was about all she could tell. It was enormous, too - was this one of Arciel's legendary Pokémon, perhaps? Even mounted on Caprice, she couldn't even reach the Pokémon's body. The whole scene took her breath away, seemingly forcing her heavy eyelids open.
After a path of rainbow-colored flowers illuminated between her and the colossal Rapidash, she saw the Simisage, Simisear, and Simipour that were grooming the graceful Pokémon. She was unable to get a true idea of their side until they slid down the equine giant's mane. Even they were far taller than she was!
Seemingly voiceless words echoed inside the girl's head after the elemental monkeys fled, a dozen or so Comfey scattering more flowers around her. The voice wanted Shalin to approach to cleans her of weariness. She was in pretty bad shape, and had very little to lose; without their help, the probability of her getting out of the forest with her team as is was very low. "...Th-thank you so much," the nervous, half-asleep rider answered, coaxing Caprice to walk closer to the Rapidash and Decidueye.

As you approach, the Comfey begin to twirl about, and at least one of them if not a few begin using Grassy Terrain, causing the grass to glow faintly beneath your feet and gradually restoring Caprice's health and stamina with every step. <Do you have other companions?> the Rapidash asks. <Humans... You keep Pokemon in small spheres, don't you?> The way she says this, you get the feeling you may be the first human she's seen this close, or at least among the first. She clearly has a passing familiarity, but only that. <If you have any, release them.>
You feel compelled to comply, and soon your entire team is out, even the fainted Pokemon. The Comfey begin using their Floral Healing and Aromatherapy on those still conscious, while the giant Rapidash moves closer-- you can tell now she's shorter at the shoulder than Decidueye, but taller overall with her head held high. She dips it low for now, however, and her muzzle, easily bigger around than your arms could reach, touches first Prance, then Serena, with a gentleness that belies her size. A simple healing move could not normally revive a fainted Pokemon, but she is ancient, and her power far exceeds that of a standard Pokemon. Within moments, Prance and Serena begin to stir, and soon they are being restored by the Comfey as well.
<You need strength, too, don't you, human?> She does not wait for an answer, dipping her head down again, further this time, to touch the end of her horn to the top of your head. It feels strange for a moment, like simply being a little squished, but then a warmth begins to flow through you. Heal Pulse may not affect humans, but the magic within a Galarian Rapidash's horn is something special that transcends the boundaries between species. Within a minute and a half, maybe two minutes tops, you feel alert, awake, and full of energy. You know you could easily travel for most of a day on this energy. As she lifts her head and you're able to see around you again, it seems your Pokemon are feeling much the same.
The Rapidash backs up a step to better see you. <You should be on your way now,> she says. <The Golden Tree is just ahead if you've come to pay your respects. Just be careful should you choose to go that way. If you're simply looking to leave, head south by southwest.> She nods to indicate the direction. <Best of luck, young one.> With that, she and the Decidueye both turn and head their separate ways deeper into the forest. It seems they trust you to be here. Let's hope their trust is well-placed.
