"As soon as you see it move, teleport back to us. Understand?"
There wasn't very much room on this side-street for people to stand around when cars came through them. As nice as Plum was, it was cramped, especially in its alley-ways. The only saving grace was that people weren't doing much milling around so early in the morning. Fewer people, fewer witnesses, and fewer odds that this might go wrong. They had it noted and confirmed that this street was one the Slatewell Bank's bi-weekly shipment car went down. So small cramped side-street it was. Senara tucked more of her hair up into the bun she was currently working on--sloppy and unprofessional, but would still hide right under a hat. Which was the idea.
In front of her was her Gallade, Coccinelle, who wasn't quite sure what was going on. But she was the only one on Senara's team who could teleport, and could communicate with both her and Gabe on the same level. Hooray for telepathic Pokemon.
<I understand! You have told me three times today. And five yesterday. And again-->
"Je n'ai pas besoin des détails! Remember to keep your 'voice' down," Senara had to reach up just slightly to poke the Gallade on the nose. Or, well, the curve of her "helmet" that kind of counted as a nose. Pokemon biology. Feh. "And stay out of sight. Got it?" Coccinelle nodded, and mimed zipping her lips, which was redundant given that she wasn't talking but whatever. Senara rolled her eye and waved her off. "Bouge alors!"
One moment the Gallade was there, and then, in a small blip of white light, she wasn't.
Teleportation was going to make this so much easier. In theory.
"I'm already imagining every single way this could go wrong. Such a good start," Senara grumbled and looked upwards at her partner in crime. "Are you ready? Is Gum?" With the bun stable she dropped her hands to pull out Polochon's pokeball from the clasp at her hip. She'd forgone her bag in favor of something easier to draw quickly from. That, and the simple dark jeans and black sweater, made her look like a whole other person than her usual colorful, cutesy garb. "We could put both of them out just in case?"
The adrenaline hadn't really kicked in yet. Senara hadn't robber a bank before. She was a small time thief--one might even call it "casual stealing"--but here she was. There wasn't much motivation on her part for it, either. Money, sure. The gorgeous jewelry in the bank's safety deposit boxes were definitely a main reason--those Regice Sapphires would look gorgeous decorating her base! But she was really only here because of him, not the prize waiting at the finish line. Something of his father's was in those boxes.
I haven't even asked. They know I know, but...ugh, now doesn't feel like the right time.
I'll see it soon enough anyway.
"I'm still not convinced that having Liz melt a hole in the bank wall wouldn't be faster." She grinned slightly. "Or Chanceux busting his way through. Is subtly worth it, Gabby?"
There could have been a hundred things bouncing around inside Gabe’s brain right then, but the one thing that did was not what he had expected. Why is she doing this… The she, purposefully vague, flashed at the forefront of his mind again, and he felt that wave of displeasure tighten in his chest again. I hate this… But not this this. This this had the chance to correct everything, to put it all back on track.
I need to focus… But there was a buzz in his mind, almost, a veil of other thoughts pushing in at the cracks and corners. He wished it would be silent.
‘You’ve gotten stronger you know…’ Harriet’s thoughts pushed into his own, and Gabe glanced sideways at her. The Alakazam looming over him offered a small uncertain smile. Gabe managed a small smile back at her.
‘Thanks…You should probably dispel too, though…’Harriet was enormous and an entirely different eyesore than a Snorlax. She’d bring alarm and confusion, not a sigh of disdain. A small nod came from the massive Alakazam, and in a flash of light, she too was gone for the moment. Gabe took in a breath and rubbed his forehead. Alright, ok.
Oh… Pulling his hand away, he glanced at the ring on his finger. Gum, beady little eyes peered out of it. ‘Sorry’Gum had no thoughts. It was absolutely incredible, really. No reply, just a flat stare. Gabe twisted his hand forward and glanced sideways at Senara. A small smirk pulled onto his features. “Of course,” was the smooth answer. But at the suggestion to have both out, he nodded. Two bean bags was better than one. “Gum, as big as you can…”
And like that the Ditto stretched off his finger, enlarged, and became a massive Snorlax, much larger than the one it had copied from initially. At the question of subtly, though, Gabe sighed softly. “We’re going to need it in this case.” Hopefully the car would hurry up and come, so they could get this show on the road.
Words: 349 Notes: This Senara's rank up to Petty Thief, done under stipulation that she and Gabe have high enough crime to execute a "not so minor" robbery as a bank. There is plot reasoning to it. That said, Gabe has already achieved the rank and is just here as an accomplice to the rank up. Iirc, he'll receive regular thread rewards for being in it. I'm rolling just for funnsies. Q9Q3Kl4Np_
With your considerable height advantage over Senara, you can see an armored car rolling down a cross street, distinctly not the one your intel said it would be on this morning. Could it nonetheless be the one you're looking for? Decide quickly, it's almost out of sight.
Time ticked by. Gabe checked his phone. Once, twice, a third time. Where was it? It couldn’t have chosen today of all days to change routes. Damn it… Gabe closed his eyes and slowly reached out with his mind, searching passed the thoughts (or lack thereof concerning Gum) to find anything foreign. Unfortunately, all he came across was the dense psychic power of the Alakazam.
‘Gabe….’ Harriet already knew what was wrong. She could sense it in his mind without so much as a mental thought directed at her.
‘Can you get me up higher?’ And with that, he was suddenly teleported up to the roof of the building he had just been standing by. Yellow eyes flashed around again searching slowly. Had he not been this tall, he wouldn’t have seen it. But he did. That had to be the armored truck moving down another side street.
Had they been aware of them? Had they decidedly changed routes off a tip? This was dangerous, but they had to act quickly. ‘SENARA IT’S DOWN THE NEXT STREET’Gabe’s projected thoughts echoed in his own mind before he fished out a Pokeball, returned Gum, and started off down the rooftop in its direction. They had to get ahead of it somehow, but with no way to predict which path it would take now, they just had to make some fast decisions.
Leaping across one roof top, he reached for that psychic power in the back of his mind just long enough to secure the landing. He was not light enough to fly with his own telekinesis but not heavy enough to completely fail the jump. It came naturally for a hot second as his mind raced for the answer. ‘Down the next side street, drop the Snorlax there.’ He’d then bolt for yet another one dropping Gum again. There was still a third the truck could take, but he didn’t have time to think about that.

What was taking the truck so long? Even if Coccinelle had gotten distracted and not come back on time, it should have still come down the street by now. It would have been annoying to not have a warning but it would have been something. Right now there was nothing. Senara chewed on her bottom lip, anxiety gnawing at her insides. It was today, right? Not tomorrow? Or Arceus forbid yesterday. She opened her mouth to say something while turning toward Gabe...only to find him not there. She blinked, sighed, and kicked at her feet. Just teleport away from me without warning. Hmph.
Well, if it was tomorrow, they'd be able to handle it. If it was yesterday, that meant more waiting and more time spent in this blasted city on her free weekends. Which. Hadn't been horrible, in all fairness to Gabe. Plum was awful and full of people but when there was a moment of quiet--
--which was not this moment, as Gabe's thoughts shot through her head like a bullet--
WHAT?! Senara held tight to Polochon's pokeball and took off in a run toward the main alley, and saw with her own eyes the truck going down the wrong way. Putain d'enfer! She started running towards the next interception, ready to throw out Polochon when she had a clear shot. With the winding side-roads (and speed limit) she might be able to beat the truck there if she was fast. But if she was too close the truck could hit the damn Snorlax instead of stopping. Which. Honestly, he probably wouldn't even notice, given how elastic a Snorlax was, but that still wouldn't be ideal!
She got to the intersection and, were there not a Snorlax-shaped ditto already there, would toss out Polochon to play, preferably, a road stop and not a speed bump.
Three roads laid before you. One was Gum's road. One was Polochon's road. And one, unfortunately, was the right road. On the bright side, neither of your Pokemon were hit by armored cars today!
No. Gabe stood over the building as his eyes searched for any sign of the armored car. Which way had it gone? He was sure it had to have been one of these two— Gabe’s eyes flashed upwards and crossed the skyline for a moment. There was a third way it could have turned down. There was a third way it was going right now. He was sure of it even without Senara’s thoughts. They were going to lose it and have to wait and Mom was—
Calm down… Gabe’s hands balled into fists. He wasn’t going to lose it like this right now. ‘Harriet, can you trace it?’No answer. Gabe shook his head. She was as uncertain then as he was. But there was another. ‘Coccinelle, use future sight and predict where the truck will be. Teleport Senara and I there.’Was he that desperate then? No, they of course needed another plan, but that was one route. ‘Harriet—‘ Immediately Gabe was teleported to Senara again without a word.
Five. Six. Seven. Eight...no no no no, come on, I don't hear anything...!
Senara glanced up toward the rooftops. The radio silence wasn't a good sign. And the lack of a truck coming down her street was equally bad. Polochon raised his head up with a confused small grunt, and, with a small Kalosian curse and returned him to his ball. No no no, if they missed the truck then they'd need to do this all over again...!
Coccinelle's voice was suddenly in Gabe's head. <WOW! You're so far away but I can hear you! Future Sight? Oh! Right! I'll be right there~> And then there was silence.
Senara almost jumped when Gabe suddenly appeared besides her, and took a step back so she could glare up at him for a moment. "Arceus'prettypinkplatedon'tdothat! It's not here--" No, really? "--what do we do?? Is there anywhere else we can intercept it?"
And then there was a Gallade between the two humans. Senara groaned something along the lines of "fucking teleporting bastards just blip out of existence". Coccinelle had a second to look at her trainer funny before clapping a hand on both her shoulder and Gabe's arm. <I saw them! C'mon! It's a really smart spot, too, I bet you will like it a lot!>
"Wait--" Senara started to protest. She'd never been teleported before. What if it made her throw up? They were on a clock here yes but did she really trust her space-cadet to not teleport them into a wall or turn them into green jello or something equally horrifying?
There wasn't further time to debate, though, because in a blink they were gone.
You're in the back of the car, where all the valuables are going to be kept. This makes sense, because you are the most valuable things on this job. I hope that makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside.
Whatever the case, there's no way they'd think to check the most secure part of the truck for stragglers. Now, how are you guys planning on getting around to the Fun part?
Gabe’s brain was running a mile a minute even as he appeared next to Senara. His stomach lurched from so much teleportation, but he didn’t have time to think about it. As Coccinelle appeared in between them and reported what she saw, Gabe was about to say something—
And then they were gone.
And then they were standing in the back of the moving car with all the valuables stored tightly but shaking ever so slightly as they went. Gabe wouldn’t be standing long. All of a sudden, it was like his body had lost all support, and as the car bounced slightly from a crack in the road, Gabe collapsed onto his hands and knees. “Fuck….” he breathed having the decency to keep quiet or at least as quiet as he could be right then.
Coccinelle had…. Not only dropped them in a place with the moving vehicle, she had dropped them in the moving vehicle somehow. How?? Weren’t these things teleportation proof? Hadn’t he read that somewhere? Or had that been a lie fabricated in order to keep people from trying? Or had they just gotten lucky and picked a van that didn’t have that sort of thing equipped or?? His mind was spinning, and Gabe slowly grabbed the wall and eased back into a seated position. ‘Well… this was not how I planned it but…’ his thoughts projected to Senara and Cookie.

So teleporting felt like a rollercoaster. Great to know. As Senara suddenly materialized in the back of the van she physically swayed before her back hit the wall--thankfully she was too small to make a lot of noise--and her arm grabbed onto Coccinelle and pulled her similarly off to the side. Coccinelle made a confused sound. <Are you okay? You look super pale! Does your stomach hurt?> The genuine concern in her big red eyes almost made it hard for Senara to be mad at her. Almost.
"Why did you teleport us into the van??" She spoke in a hushed, angry, and groggy voice, still feeling like her stomach was trying to escape up out her throat. "We were going to get the drivers out so we can replace them, not be brought to the bank like this!"
<We can still do that though, can't we?> Coccinelle didn't even sound--well, "sound"--hurt by Senara's words. The helmet on her head wasn't the only thing that was thick, it seemed. Senara huffed and slid down the wall, unable to keep her balance between the moving car and her own nausea. Okay. Alright. This wasn't part of the plan but when was it ever? They could handle this. They had this. Totally. Senara tried to get lower so that if one of the men looked backwards past the grating between the driver's seat and the contents of the van, she wouldn't be seen. Being small helped some, but she was never good at hide and seek...was there a spot she could hide?
[Trying to find a hiding place with Stealth]
hD0ZbE2rp_
[Hahah, nope.]
Nope, she couldn't manage to find a spot where some part of her (or more visibly her stupidly tall and very green Gallade) was still visible. Dammit dammit dammit. So hiding in the van all the way there wasn't going to be possible. The moment one of them turned around the would be spotted. But...how much longer was the street? She had an idea. As the car approached the end of the road, and therefore a stop sign or red light, she pulled out a pokeball with a smattering of yellow rhinestones on the top, with four little blue ones in the middle. She popped it open as quietly as she could and, in her other palm, was suddenly a teensy tiny and very fluffy bug. Etoile the Joltik shook out her fur and looked around, four eyes blinking in unison. "Etoile, go through the grate. Wait until the car is stopped, then use Electroweb on them. Make sure they can't move."
<Won't that hurt them?> Coccinelle frowned a little. Of all the times to be a moral compass, this was not one of them. Senara just put her finger to her lips to shush her.
Etolie, however, didn't seem to have such qualms. <Attacking humans? Neat. Got it.>
With tiny blue feet she scuttled up Senara's arm and to the wall of the van, then continued without pause to walk along it until she reached the grate, which she popped through one of the holes of with ease. As commanded she waited until the car rolled to a stop at an otherwise quiet stop-sign, then, raising her tiny head, shot out a lovely bright-yellow web at both of the human guards, aiming to cover their heads and torsos with shocking sticky goo that would impede their movements.
And once they had them stuck, it'd be easy to grab them and drag them into the back of the van to properly handle them...after putting the car into park, of course.
Your plan works... sort of? You both make so much noise rattling around in the back that the driver swivels his head around. As soon as he sees you, he screeches the car to a halt in the middle of the street, just in time for Etoile to catch both guards with her gooey webs.
‘Gabe??? Gabe where are you? Are you alright? What happened?’ Harriet’s thoughts bore into Gabe’s mind as soon as he could focus for even two seconds. She sounded… far away, though, as if they had moved more than even he had expected to. Or perhaps and even more likely, the van had some sort of telepathic barrier quality to it. Gabe didn’t have time to wax and wane philosophic, though. He checked his hand and found Gum then checked his pockets and found the others. It was only Harriet that was out, so that meant—
‘We’re in the van, follow after us but don’t get caught…’ Gabe's thoughts answered. His eyes flashed around searching for something, anything, that would give them any sort of leverage in the meantime. He had the decency to duck down right as he saw a head turn, however, and a slow breath drew into him. Ok, ok this was fine. They just had to arrange a few things and and... and they could work with this.
There was a long pause before a strange sigh of relief came to Gabe’s mind followed by a singular ‘Ok….’ Gabe jolted on realizing that was Harriet answering. What was she answering, exactly? His orders from earlier or his worried thoughts? Or maybe her own worried thoughts that were stretching out into her mental voice. It didn't matter. They needed to do something they needed to--
Senara seemed to be cooking up her own plan— only for one of the truck driver’s to look back at something and then see the purple hair of Gabe right there. “What the hell??” was the yell before suddenly there was shouts of startled confused pain from a shocking sticky net move that had the car abruptly stopping in the middle of the street.
Gabe scrambled. If they got out now, they would be noticed from all sides. ‘CoccifuckitCookie can you swap them for us? Put them back here for now….’ At least then they could drive the vehicle somewhere less obvious than dead in the middle of the street.
It would not be Coccinelle to transport Gabe, however, as suddenly he found himself in the driver’s seat anyways. ‘Get out of sight, Gabe, I will not have you arrested…’ Harriet’s thoughts begged of him. There was a strange resolve in her mental ton e that he wouldn't register until later right then. Instead, Gabe grabbed the wheel, grabbed the mirror, adjusted it, took a breath, and started driving. They could worry about the logistics later. Later as in maybe less than five minutes….

Finally things were going according to...well, not plan, but they were going their way. Senara sighed in slight relief as the guards got wrapped up in webbing, trapping them. Now they just had to swap places with them. As for their clothes...urgh, neither were their size, but an ID card would be easy to snag one way or another. Coccinelle was looking far from pleased with this development. She winced at the pain brought upon the two unsuspecting guards, even as her trainer relished in it. <That was so mean...>
Senara didn't spare a sideways glance. Instead she stepped over to the grate to try and open the little metal hatch and pull the guards back. Before she even managed to get it open though, Gabe had popped into the driver's seat, and the two guards popped into existence behind her where he'd been seated. Huh. Okay. "Can you get sick from too much teleportation?" She idly commented while obscuring her face as best she could and starting to actually tied the wrists of the still webbed-up guards with their uniform's belts. They were struggling something fierce. If she'd brought Veneur she could have him just Sleep Bomb them, or she could have taught Coccinelle some sort of Hypnosis.
Eh, hindsight was 20-20. Or in her case 0-20. Whatever.
"Don't suppose any of yours have Sleep Powder or something," she grumbled, "Not sure this truck could handle me popping out a two-hundred kilogram pouf in the back of it."
Etolie scuttled onto the dashboard of the truck and peered out the large window. She looked so excited. Well, as excited as a four inch tall yellow puffball could be. Senara took pause just to look at Gabe, thoughts poking at him from in her head. Does he even know how to drive? He said he'd take care of it but he doesn't exactly own a car...
<NYOOM!> Etolie put her stubby feet in the air, <LET'S GO! FULL SPEED!!>
It all goes off without a hitch! The guards fail to break out of their makeshift restraints as Gabe speeds off into the distance. Surely it will be fine. How hard can a commandeering an escape vehicle be, especially right after being teleported?
Could he get sick from too much teleportation? Gabe did not want to find out while driving. His hands gripped the wheel so hard that his knuckles turned white, and his foot was tense on the peddle. He could barely focus on Senara’s words but did register her question, but as it did, he came up with a quick enough plan.
“Gum, take Ghost’s form and use Hypnosis on the guards in the back,” Gabe ordered. “Then come back.” Gum stretched up off Gabe’s hand and went slowly slinking off through the gating into the back before taking the form of the smallish Gengar and grinning particularly viciously (as per Ghost’s habit) before using Hypnosis on the struggling humans. That would put them out for a while at least. After, Gum shrunk down again and started to slowly stretch back into the van.
Gabe, meanwhile, managed to not crash the van into anything even as he slowly accelerated down the street. If the clothes weren’t going to fit, they’d just have to hope they weren’t noticed until the armored truck was up to the back of the bank and the IDs got them in the front door. After that, well, it was just a bank robbery right? Heh. ‘If you’ve got an ID card, teleport into the passenger’s seat. We’re coming up on the bank…’ Gabe’s thoughts reached back.
Ah the versatility of a Ditto; what Senara wouldn't give to have one for herself. The going little creature slopping close before turning into a Gengar was an interesting site. Senara adored the Gengar line--honestly, it was a wonder that she hadn't picked one of them up herself, given her fondness for them. They were so purple and naught and very, very round. All very good qualities in a Pokemon. "Thank you, gommeuse," she gave a little word of thanks to Gum before he schlooped back to his trainer.
Senara placed one of the hats from the guards onto her head and tucked the other under her arm. If nothing else, it would obscure their profiles from any security cameras. She should have worn glasses or something else defining that she could ditch. As the thoughts trickled into her head she followed through and poked around the pockets of each guard. An employee ID couldn't be that easy to find, right? It was meant to be accessible--though it was probably strapped to them to avoid, well, this.
Didn't really work how you expected, huh?
Besides her, curled up with her knees to her chin, Coccinelle looked quite off-put by all of this. Once Senara found the ID, she would teleport her into the front seat, but she did not look happy with how this was going at all. People were getting hurt. Why?
The guards go to sleep very quickly and nobody's the wiser! Thankfully the uniforms seem to fit as well and there doesn't seem to be many roadblocks ahead. Looks like it's pretty smooth sailing for now.
Gum gave Senara a weirdly straight-faced thumbs up in response. Unlike Coccinelle, it was just kind of used to these types of shenanigans and had no qualms about causing this kind of havoc. After that, it slunk back off to Gabe who wouldn’t even notice as his hands braced the wheel. Once Senara had teleported into the seat next to him, he gave her a sideways glance and then looked forward again. He could drive. He was driving. This was fine.
As they got up to the back, sure enough, there was a gate waiting for them, Gabe awkwardly made a hand gesture for the card, and once he had it, he just as awkwardly grabbed the hat, put it on, and then leaned out of the truck. Pinging the ID against the gate reader, he breathed a sigh of relief once it opened. Now they just needed to drive in the back out of immediate sight by design… and hope the rest of the plan went through alright.
Finally stopping the car at the back door, Gabe shot Senara a sideways glance and slowly forced a smile. It was fake, of course. Some part of him was actually surprisingly anxious. The other part was oddly exhilarated. They were doing this. They were robbing this goddamn bank. “See any security cameras?” There had to be some and— Ah, they’d already been spotted The backdoor was opening presumably in response to the truck. Good. Well. There was no turning back now. Not that there ever had been a chance in Gabe’s mind.

It took a little fighting, but Senara managed to her her hair up into the hat, using just enough to frame her face and obscure it slightly from any potential onlookers. Bleaching it back to blonde had been a good idea--it stood out less than the bright pink she'd had before. Pale and blonde could describe a bunch of people. Gabe, though, still stood out like a sore thumb. Once in her seat and him putting his own hat on she squinted at him. "...that does, like, literally nothing to make you look different. I wouldn't expect you to go full in like me," she did a small toss of blonde over her shoulder, "But temporary dye is a thing? You couldn't have gone with a more subtle color like black or brown for a day?"
She handed the card over to him. At the same time, Etolie scuttled up to her side of the dashboard and did a little jump, landing right on Senara's shoulder with minimal issue. Senara pet her on her tiny yellow head. "Not yet," she said with the kind of even, empty tone that came with somebody burying their anxiety under several pounds of false calm. The thrill of it was still going through her but sitting in the car, waiting for the next step, did nothing to help. "Etoile, tu regardes aussi. Cinq yeux valent mieux qu'un."
As they pulled up she motioned for Coccinelle to come closer to the gate. When she didn't, Senara sighed, and pulled out her pokeball. "If you won't help, then you can go back in. But it means you might not be able to help us if this goes south. So? What are you doing, Cocci?" The Gallade let out a small sigh and shook her head.
<I don't want to hurt people. I'll help you. But not hurt them.> Why are you the one Pokemon on my team with a conscious.
"Fine. Return." A beam of red light went through the metal gate, absorbing Coccinelle into it before retreating back into the ball. She slid her into the holster on her belt.
With the car in park she felt a little spark on her cheek, and Senara turned to look in the direction she found Etolie pointing her tiny little foot. "There. Up, over the door. It'll see us as we get out of the car." Senara pointed it out to Gabe. On her shoulder Etolie made a little chittering, chuckling sound. Senara didn't need to read her mind to guess what she was saying. "I'll send her out to chew on it, that should give us time to move."
It wasn't like they had too many options, and Etolie was very small. She cracked the door open an inch and let the little yellow puff-ball of a spider scuttle away. Etolie would be very hard to spot as she went around the van and up the wall until she was right atop the security camera, and once she had her perch, she began to nibble away at the wires keeping the camera connected to the building's power. Mmmmmmm, tasted like volts.
