Aster stepped into the bakery, clutching the job flyer in her hand. "Hello! I'm here about th'... job..." The woman running the bakery was running from bowl to bowl, mixing the batters, adding a cup of sugar here or there, and just generally flying around the kitchen like she was teleporting.
"You're here to help?! Great! Excellent! Here, take this," she threw an empty bowl at Aster, which she lost but managed to pick up in her right hand, "and these! And mix them with this," she threw a carton of chicken's eggs, which Aster miraculously caught in her left hand before it struck the ground, and a bag of flour, which she caught inside the bowl in her right, "and this!" Aster had placed all of the ingredients she had caught onto the counter and grabbed the bag of sugar before it could be thrown at her, also placing it on the counter.
"Okay, look, I know yer in a rush, but ya don't gotta throw stuff 'round. I got this. What did ya want me to make?"
"The cupcakes, of course! I have to do the tiered cake, it has to be perfect!" The frantic baker rushed off to do something else, leaving Aster to her devices. She decided to first find the recipe, which was luckily near the top of the recipe book pile on one side of the counter, and then find all of the ingredients. Most of them were here already, and there was no shortage of utensils for mixing and the pans were all hanging nearby, but she was missing vanilla and cocoa powder for the cakes, and powdered sugar, milk, and butter for making the frosting. She decided to search first the cabinets, and then the fridge, so after the cake was mixed up and in the oven she'd be able to start the frosting right away.

You find the vanilla and coca powder quickly- and you find the sugar bag. However, as you pull the sugar bag down from the shelf, it seems to rip in half of its own accord dumping sugar all over you in the process. Well that's not a sweet event.

Poof! went the bag of powdered sugar, dumping all over Aster and making her look like a powdery ghost. She wiped what she could off of her face and brushed some off of her clothes, but it was everywhere. Good thing powdered sugar wasn't too hard to wash out.. She decided to just work with what she had first, then look for more powdered sugar in a short while instead, so she went back to where the other ingredients and bowl sat on the counter and started to mix everything together, reading the instructions carefully.
"Okay, so now I gotta add the eggs, then mix it until they're incorporated.. And then I can throw in some vanilla!" With a whisk, the egg incorporation was super easy, then she poured in a bit of vanilla, knowing from home that vanilla didn't have to be measured precisely unless the recipe was for a very small batch. Next, the dry ingredients went into a second bowl she found, and she whisked them together too, with a clean whisk she found hanging near the other implements.
"Oh, right, the oven!" Looking around, she spotted a couple of free ovens, and she chose one to crank up to about 350 degrees, like the recipe book recommended, then kept on mixing, combining the wet and dry ingredients together into the dry ingredient bowl.

"Jus' need that powdered sugar an' I can start the frosting.." Aster mumbled to herself as she began opening cabinets, looking for another bag of powdered sugar. She found one and carefully lifted it from the shelf, trying not to snag the bag again, then smiled as she trotted back to her workspace and plopped it down near her other supplies. Now she needed to find a clean mixer; there were a few of them around the room, one of them occupied by the baker, and the others.. were all covered in whatever had last been mixed in them. She chose the least messy one and unhooked the bowl and beater from it, rushing them over to a sink to give them a good, soapy scrub.
Drying her hands and the now-clean implements, Aster glanced over to see that the oven was hot, and went ahead and reattached the bowl and beater to the mixer before heading to her station again to pour the batter into the paper-lined cupcake wells. There were a few splatters, but it seemed like she had filled each of the 24 wells with the right amount of batter with none to spare, so she moved them into the oven, then wiped her hands and turned her attention and ingredients to the mixer she had cleaned.

As you go about everything, it all seems to be working— at least until you try to turn on the blender. The machine gives a strange gear-like reverberation and then falls into silence. Oh no, what was wrong with it? Was it worth cleaning off another one?

"Aw heck.." Aster cast around for another mixer, spotting another one that didn't seem too nasty looking, and snatched just the beater from that one to give a quick wash. She was thorough, making sure there wasn't a single spot left on it from whatever had been in there last, and simply swapped the bowl with her ingredients inside with the dirty one, putting the dirty bowl into the sink. This machine seemed to be working, and she made a mental note to give a good look to the other one after she was all done with her task.
Adding in just a little at a time, Aster put together the butter, some milk, vanilla, and a lot of powdered sugar, letting the mixer do the work of mixing it all together. She waited to see the texture, shutting the machine off to add in a bit more milk to thin it out, then turned it back on, watching the consistency. When it was mixed to her satisfaction, she had a larger batch of frosting than she thought she would need, but it tasted right and seemed to be holding together, so she tossed the mixing bowl into the fridge to chill, then rushed over to check on the cupcakes.

Most of the cupcakes seem to be a golden-brown color! Very nice and ready to go! The three on the far right, though, seem to have burnt a little and probably won’t be servable, though. Looks like you may have to make a few more to replace those, but it’s better than the whole thing being burnt! Looks like your cooking skill helped a little.

Aster deflated a bit when she saw the few blackened cupcakes, but she just picked those ones up and tossed them into the bin; she still had enough ingredients for a bit more batter, so she could just make some more. She moved the hot trays onto the top of the stove to let them cool a bit, then went back over to her ingredients. Another batch of batter, halved to make twelve more cakes, was ready soon enough, and since the oven was still hot, she decided to just get another cupcake pan; there were plenty of them around and she'd end up having to wash a lot of dishes already, so why not one more tray?
Lining all twelve wells with paper, she poured the new batter into them and moved the new tray to the oven, carefully placing them so they weren't too close to the sides this time. She took a moment to stop, breathe, and stretch her arms, then snagged the cooling trays of not-burnt cupcakes and moved them to a nearby counter, taking each cake out to place on a criss-crossed cooling rack so they'd get even air all around and cool a bit faster.
She thought for a moment about what to do while the new cupcakes baked, then decided to check the chilling frosting. It seemed to be okay, not too hard, so she took it out, anticipating the finished cupcakes cooling soon so they could be frosted.

Everything seems to run smoothly. Some cupcakes are cooling faster than others, and as you check on them , you identify which those are. They’re ready and raring to be iced!

As soon as some of the cupcakes were cool enough, Aster got an icing bag out, fitted it with a tip, and scooped enough icing for half of the cupcakes into the bag, twisting the end slightly so it wouldn't come out of the back end instead. Carefully, she used the star-shaped tip to fill in the center out to the edges, then keeping the same strand of icing, spun it back in to sit in a tall cone. She did this for each cupcake, trying her best not to flatten any of them or to overdo the frosting. This style of frosting could get to be more frosting than cake if you weren't careful.
After she was done with the cooled cupcakes, she checked the oven for the next batch of cupcakes, since they'd had enough time to cook by now. After testing one of the ones in the middle for a toothpick, she found that the toothpick came out clean. She took out the whole tray and placed it atop the stove like last time, checking for burnt cakes again and hoping they were all okay.
Provided they were all okay, she proceeded to finish frosting the other cupcakes, and went to ask the baker where she wanted the finished ones. "The boxes are over there," she said, waving vaguely in one direction while wielding a frosting bag of her own, "and you wanna do twelve per box so they're not too overloaded. Just put them in the store-front, on the back counter." Aster did as she was told, finding the boxes in a different spot than she'd thought they'd be in and popping open two of them, placing all of the finished cupcakes inside, and taking the single full capacity box carefully up front to put on the back counter. She saw that there was already a box of cupcakes up there, presumably from the baker earlier in the day, that were vanilla with pink frosting. Hers were chocolate with chocolate frosting, so they looked very different, but the contrast was pretty.

Everything seems to be running smooth! Congratulations! Everything looks wonderful. The baker even seems to be rather impressed and would probably let you help out more if you wanted—

After the other cupcakes cooled enough, Aster was able to give them the same fancy frosting treatment she had given the rest, and finally she was able to box up the remaining cupcakes needed for the second dozen. She still had a few left over, which she was able to stash in a smaller box, then decided to tie that up with a pretty ribbon she found in a drawer full of all kinds of junk.
Aster carefully carried the second dozen cupcakes to the back counter out front and stacked it with her first dozen, making sure the stack was stable, then returned to the kitchen as the baker dashed past her with another dozen-sized box. Now, it was time to clean up!
She decided that, instead of just washing the dishes and equipment she had used, she would help out a bit more and scrub down all of the counters, every mixing bowl, all of the beaters attached to the mixers, and sweep the floor, especially where she had dropped so much powdered sugar down. It took her a little while, but soon everything that wasn't in current use by the baker was sparkling clean!
"There we go! Hey, miss? I'm all done!" Aster called out to the baker. "Oh, that's nice dear. I'm still finishing up this layer cake, sorry."
