Skill Update
Hello all! Today we bring you a few changes to the skill system, as well as two small class changes that go along with it.
The class changes are that (A) Genetic Memory and First Aid are no longer exclusive to Researchers and Nurses respectively, instead being linked to new skills with those classes now just being better at the abilities than others; and (B) the bonus +15 skill point options for a few classes have changed to reflect the skill changes.
With that out of the way, what's changed?
We no longer have a Profession or Other skill, to start. Mods found that the variance of these skills often made them too niche to effectively use or provide opportunities to level. Instead, we have taken three things that would have fit into Profession before and made new skills out of them! We now have Medic, Research, and Survival skills.
I hear you asking, "but what if I wanted something that no longer fits into the available skills?" There are two options for that.
The first is to try to think of what other skills would support the ability you want. For instance, being good at riding Pokemon could entail the Dexterity needed to issue commands with the reigns and one's feet and to keep balance as the Pokemon shifts, or the Strength to hold on tight and further keep balance with strong core muscles, or even the Stamina needed to endure long rides. Fashion Design, a Profession one of my own characters had, may use some Dexterity for fine detail work, and/or could play into the below option.
The other option is to simply allow your character to be as good or bad as you feel is currently justified at the thing and self-regulate how well they grow. For instance, if you want your character to be a phenomenal painter, having some Dexterity may help play into realism but isn't strictly necessary, or if you want them to be a decent artist and get better over time, you can just play that out at whatever pace you like. We apologize to anyone who might find it more fun to have a more visible/"tangible" record of progress like skill points offer, but we've had to accept that mods can't realistically think of scenarios for every situation so it's best to stick to more thoroughly defined skills.
So the next question of course becomes "what happens to the Skill Points I had in Profession or Other?" And the answer is as follows. Any "Profession (Nurse)" points were automatically changed to Medic points; "Profession (Anything Sciency, unless it's a computer or medical science)" to Research, and "Profession (Explorer/Survivalist)" to Survival. All other points are listed below for you to do almost anything you want with!
We do ask you not to put more than 20 skill points into any of the three new skills or more than 5 skill points into any old skills UNLESS it ties well to what your points were in before. We won't be very strictly enforcing this; it's more of a request. We'd just like to avoid someone suddenly jumping, for instance, from 10 to 30 points in Cooking just because they used to have Profession points in being a good Pokemon Trainer, or suddenly get much Stronger because they used to have points in Tailoring, or something like that.
You may post here to claim your new allotment for each character. You may do all claims in one post and simple @ your characters.
