This was it - the last warm weekend of the year. Though it was overcast, it was still about as warm as an early summer's day - more than welcome enough to jump into the sea with Pokémon she wouldn't be able to use until the weather warmed up again. If she didn't bond with them now, Shalin would regret it all winter long. If regions like Alola, which experienced warm weather year-round, weren't so expensive, she'd move there. Sure, the snow offered its own premise of fun and adventure, but being cut off from a whole type of Pokémon for five months felt awful. She couldn't have imagined how, say, Vannifar felt.
She would give the Tentacruel one last chance to shine. That, and her other purely aquatic Pokémon. While the wilds of Arciel had fascinated her from the moment her expedition began, there was a wholew new world beneath the surface - one that had to have gone almost completely unseen. Her mind raced as she released her four water Pokémon at the end of an unused pier protruding north from Bass City toward Ivy Town. The Tentacruel in particular seemed antsy to get going.
The blonde lowered herself from the pier directly onto Vannifar's back, Prower eager to swim alongside the speedy, tentacled predator. After commanding her Pokémon to submerge, she inhaled deeply. Once they were off shore to a depth of about ten feet, Vannifar, Classie, and Levy all formed air bubbles around their upper bodies. The one around the Tentacruel was larger than the other two, encompassing over half of Shalin's body and letting her breathe as easily as if she were on the surface. Unfortunately for her, Prower was unable to - the Floatzel she loved zipping across the sea on could not form such an air bubble without also filling his yellow air sac, which would rocket Shalin to the surface fast enough to give her the bends.
"It's so beautiful!" Shalin gasped, the entire scene shimmering as sunlight filtered in from above. The unexplored, undocumented land under the waves had to have treasures, both natural and man-made, separated from the human eye by a normally inhospitable environment made navigable thanks to the mysterious powers of Pokémon. Her mind raced as to what secrets she would unearth today!
