It had been some since since Fayne and Molokai had visited the training grounds back in Birch City, but since many more Pokemon had joined their team since then, it made sense to prioritize some time to practice new moves and level up. In fact, the last time the duo had been to the training grounds, Molokai was still a Charmander and could ride comfortably on his trainer's shoulder. Even though it had only been a few months, it felt like years had passed since then. But now was not the time to reminiscence! After locating a basic, medium-sized battlefield, Fayne pulled out five Pokeballs and tossed them into the air simultaneously. Out popped a level 15 Salandit, a level 11 Natu, a level 1 Alolan Geodude, and two level 6 and level 8 Eevees. Molokai welcomed his friends with a chipper snarl, and the monochrome Eevee yipped in response. The Salandit slithered between Fayne's legs before snapping at the lower-level Eevee's tail. The Eevee responded by jumping in surprise, twirling around, and batting at the Salandit's snout. The Natu sat on the ground in silence, quietly observing her surroundings. And finally the Geodude, the youngest and largest of the bunch, lingered near the Natu and glanced around cautiously. Although Fayne had initially considered bringing Carnelia the Nosepass instead of Palila the Natu, she also knew that Palila was one of the only individuals on the team to make the newborn Geodude feel more at ease. She wasn't exactly motherly and she didn't treat Crag any different than the others; it was merely a result of her calm, collected demeanor. Her attitude was contagious, in a way, and that helped keep the uncertain Geodude relax in new situations. To help him adjust, Fayne reached down and patted Crag's rocky head. "It's okay. I know this place is new and strange, but you're safe here." She stood back up and watched Molokai, Gagnier, Yin, and Yang chase each other in circles. Occasionally, one would successfully catch another, but they were gentle with each other for the most part. Gagnier the Salandit sometimes didn't know his own strength, but Fayne chalked that up to his massive side in comparison to the others on the team. He was far less aggressive with Carnelia and Crag, the two larger Pokemon in the party--then again, they were also the only two made of rock, so that may have had something to do with it. After letting the group play for a while, Fayne whistled to get everyone's attention. "Alright, settle down. Today, I want to focus on leveling up Crag, Yin, and Yang--" she began but was quickly interrupted by Gagnier hissing and spitting. "Yes, yes, I didn't forget about you," the young researcher chuckled. "We'll try to teach you Fire Lash using the theory of Genetic Memory, but I don't know how successful we'll be." Fayne looked back down at Crag who was the only one not looking at her. "We'll all need to be patient and understanding of each other's limits today," she explained while looking back at the group of four who were looking at her eagerly. She was met with a few chirps, growls, and barks of agreement. "Great!" Fayne chimed. "Who wants to go first?" The grey Eevee bounced in place and cheered, and the Salandit hissed and reared up on his hind legs, both desperate to be chosen. The petrologist chuckled softly and nodded. "Let's let Gagnier go first," she said, "otherwise you know he's going to get fussy and impatient." Yang the Eevee stopped jumping and seemed okay with the decision until Gagnier turned to him and stuck out his tongue. Both Yin and Yang lunged toward the taunting Salandit and the trio once again began placing chase. Fayne let out a sigh and smiled at Molokai. "I guess this is what I get for letting everyone out of their balls at the same time." POST WC (unedited) ▸ 680 To teach a Genetic Memory (GM) move, roll 3 times, once per post. Those with the Researcher class and Level 1 Research Skill require combined rolls of 90 Points for normal Genetic Memory Research. Upon success, the Pokemon learns that move. If you roll a natural 100 on any of the three rolls and succeed overall, you research two moves instead of one and they come in two new move slots instead of taking up the old ones |
