Adventurous: Sage has wanted to go out into the world ever since she was a little girl. She enjoyed a decent amount of freedom on her parents ranch, as well as supportive parents who let her try new things for herself. She was almost a free range child, and has long been independent, so trying something new or going to a new place is never something which causes her to worry or be nervous. Some might say she’s a little reckless in how she does things, rarely worrying about her safety, but she’s not a thrill seeker, she just had the support of a protector up until recently. His presence meant she never really needed to think about the consequences of her choices. Often she takes the position of a leader in groups of her peers, being assertive and sure of herself. Her adventurous nature has shown itself now in a desire to travel and to gather her own team of pokemon and participate in contests, combining her need for new experiences and her desire to pour out her soul into her work in creativity, like she does with her music.
Hard working: Despite her desire to roam her life with her parents instilled a solid work ethic into her. Living on a farm meant getting up early to get the day started and get chores done. The consequences of not doing work would be that her family wouldn't eat if things were not done. Sage learned how to pick things up quickly and get things done well the first time. She knows how to use her time and dedicate herself to tasks in a way which is beneficial to everyone. This worked out well when she was child, as it allowed her to pick up music and voice and dedicate herself to them. She only ever played one instrument, but that was enough, and allowed her an outlet for her creativity and adventurous nature which might not have been as common for someone growing up on a farm.
Rustic: Sage has never really been in a big city before, so she is likely to be overwhelmed by the large amount of people, pokemon, and technology involved. While it wont paralyze her, it will likely through her off her groove and leave her lost or wandering in places that sensible and experienced people would know to avoid. She has a distinct style of clothing which is very much rural and ranch style, and her voice and accent match it nicely, which might cause others to think she’s less educated. She also knows her way around the wilderness, with some skills which would make it helpful to survive out in the wild.
Compassionate: A sweet and caring woman, she has had very few horrible experiences in her life. This means she has a lot of love to give to others, and a lot of reason to the world that there is good out there. She is likely to show compassion to everyone, including most pokemon. While she had friends as a child, she also spent a decent amount of time with pokemon, and so she has a great affection for them.
Non-Confrontational: Sage has never been good at confrontations. Usually she’ll just bowl over someone before they can try and confront her, or she will just leave or avoid a situation which involves aggression. Until recently, her Dad’s Luxio would be the one to fight for her, protect her, so she rarely needed to worry about any fighting. She also got along well with her family and with locals, and her cheery attitude rarely caused problems. As she heads out into the wider world, where people are more suspicious, and there are more dangers, she will have to figure out how to handle situations she has so far avoided. If it were a case of serious danger, she would probably submit instead of fighting, and instead of calling someone out for something that annoys her, she is likely to just ignore and keep going.
Naive: It is quite likely that she’ll get scammed throughout her adventures as she can be quite naive about things in the modern world. She’s kind and compassionate, but likely to be taken advantage of. It might take her a few hits to get it into her stubborn head that not everyone wants to help, that not everyone is nice. She also hasnt been exposed to a lot of the darker things which might be present in cities, and has never been physically hurt before by another person. It will take her time to adjust and learn about the world around her. Hopefully it wont break her.
Roy Harper was a charming man, big and brawny like a blacksmith, and women practically swooned over him. But the only woman he ever had eyes for was Lilah May. He courted her for years, and she led him on a merry chase, never outright denying him, but also not fully acquiescing to his advances. She was too busy making a career of breeding champion contest pokemon. Eventually, he convinced her to marry him, and Roy Harper took over his Father’s ranch, which produced high quality Moo Moo milk. Lila took her breeding knowledge and used it to improve their stock and even trade away some of their best pokemon to aspiring breeders and coordinators.
It was into this home that Sage was born.
Almost from birth, she had a protector in the form of her father’s Luxio. He latched onto her and was there for her always. He was the one who helped her learn how to walk, as she grabbed onto his mane. Roy always thanked Lux, and taught Sage to as well. As a result of his near constant presence, her parents had little to worry about regarding her safety, but poor Lux got the brunt of it. He was always chasing after her, pulling her out of a rushing stream she had fallen into at age four, or out from underneath the hooves of a huffing Tauros when she was six, helping her get back home after she had wandered too far and was stuck outside overnight.
Eventually she knew the entirety of her family’s land like the back of her hand, and as she got older, she found she had more responsibilities. Now she had different adventures. She learned how to help run the ranch, to bring all the pokemon and livestock in at night to a safe place,what traits were good ones to encourage in pokemon lines, all the essentials of life on a ranch. Once her life had begun to take on the monotony of routine, she sought another outlet.Her mother, once a coordinator, encouraged her daughter to find a creative outlet, suggesting music. So she took up playing the banjo and singing. Mastering a banjo took several years, and got her through her adolescent years.
The Ultra Beast attack didnt really make a huge difference to her, as far out as Hickory Town was. But it clearly impacted the rest of Arciel, and she and her family felt the ripples of it in their little town. There were a few rough years as the region rebuilt and the commotion settled, and the ranch struggled some.
Thankfully she wasnt as angsty as some teenagers, but she did still have a few turbulent phases. Around fifteen she watched some of her friends go off for school, or start looking to a future away from the ranches. Several of them started planning their journeys as trainers and coordinators, though most wouldnt leave until they were at least sixteen or seventeen. Sage was torn. She wanted to go out, explore, see the world. But her family needed her home at the ranch. It hadnt been a good few years. Maybe in a little while she could go, her father told her gently, but right now they didnt have anything to give her. And she couldnt leave Luxio behind, who had aged over the years he had protected her. He was in no condition to head out on any kind of adventure.
So she bided her time, working hard to ensure that the ranch was back to its best it could be. It took another nearly two years, but finally she and her parents felt confident that they could spare her.
However her triumph was soured when Lux died. He passed of old age, but it still hurt that her best friend and protector was gone. She was reminded of all those times as a child where she went out on adventures nearby, a child forging her way through forest and field, over stream and ravine, meeting wild pokemon in their natural habitat. She escaped the house to mourn, and as she was sobbing in the grass under the blue sky, she heard on odd little chirp, and looked up to see a little Kricketot chirruping nervously. It began to sing, almost as if trying to calm her. After a moment of sniffling, she joined it and began to sing along, and some of her grief was dulled.
Sage ended up spending the rest of her day outside, singing with the Kricketot, until it was time to go home, and surprisingly, it followed her. She had cared for plenty of pokemon, but never one of her own specifically, though Lux had been close. But this was a small, vulnerable bug pokemon, and she couldnt simply leave it alone. So she brought him home. Her parents were surprised, but her father saw it as a sign. She was ready for her own journey. So they gave her a small kit of supplies they had prepared for her, and the next day they pushed her out the door.
Sage has a lot on her mind, but she has a few goals.
She would like to have a few more pokemon before she can enter any contests, so she wants to fill out her party and train with them. She wants to get two contest ribbons, and get her name out there.
Ultimately however, her dream goal is to become a Singer/Musician. While she is working on contests, she also wants to head to Bass City and see how to get involved with the industry there.
Sage is a country girl through and through. She’s scrawny, but her hands and feet are calloused from work and being outside, and her pale skin is freckled from the sun. It’s particularly obvious across her cute little nose and cheeks. Her big round brown eyes give her an innocent expression, which will likely lead to grief in her future. Her hair she generally wears in one long braid down her back, though in the evenings or on special occasions she will let it down. Even her clothes are rustic, usually in browns and greens and occasionally denim. In particular she has two ponchos which she wears, as well as a beanie and a wide sun hat. These along with her short shorts and boots give her a bit of a hillbilly look. Her fanciest outfit is a dress her mother gave her to wear to contests and performances.
Sage’s aura is not real bright or obvious when you first look at her. Its very subtle, a mellow earthy green which forms a gentle pulsing halo. It pulses larger and brighter, often in shifting rainbow colors, when she is happy and especially when she is singing or performing.
