Dammit, that Marshtomp was quite quick on her feet, wasn't she? As she avoided the bite and dove into the water, Shep was about to jump in after her when Hiro gave the order. "hold it!" Marley called out, causing Shep to stop in his tracks. Both Galarians paused and watched the water, seeing the water ripple and hearing the echoes of...a whale call? well, he hadn't expected that sound. "If a Marshtomp makes that sound, imagine what a Wailord does..." As the sound subsided, he gave a shrug. "Ok, NOW go in and bite 'er Shep!"
Shep gave a happy yap and dove into the water, swimming towards the Marshtomp with the intent on biting her hard.
hV9Iumk2p_p_ 90 > 12; Bite hit! Marshtomp was bit!: 10 - 2 = 8 HP Marshtomp didn't flinch!
“Watch out, Marshtomp!” Hiro’s voice called, but Marshtomp couldn’t hear it over the reverberations of her own growl. Just as the happy Yamper dove into the water, the Marshtomp turned around and got a sharp set of teeth to a fin. The Marshtomp yelped but didn’t flinch. Instead, she twisted around and aimed to throw him off her arm and up into the air again. “Mud Shot!” Hiro called in perfect time. The Marshtomp was practically already readying the attack, though, opening her maw and shooting the blast of Ground power.
As Shep chomped into the Marshtomp, Marley let out a laugh of triumph! "atta boy Shep! First blood goes to us! Just keep it up!" The Marshtomp responded by throwing Shep up into the air, getting ready to fire another glob of mud at Shep. The small canine pokemon wriggled in the air, somehow managing to avoid the flying, dirty projectile, before splashing back down into the water. "Come on boy! You got a taste of blood, now sink those fangs into it again!" Shep didn't need to be told twice. Righting himself up in the water, the little dog shot down towards Marshtomp, ready to chomp her again.
Splash! The Yamper’s fall back into the water had the entire pool reverberating for a moment. Marshtomp bounded up from the water and landed on one of the islands. “You ok, Marshtomp?” Hiro called. The mudfish Pokemon was gripping her fin but have a quick nod in response. “Alright! Back in the water!” he called. Just as the Yamper came up to the platform to Bite down on the Marshtomp again, she dove backwards splashing into the water. “Mud Shot while you’re close!” Hiro’s voice called. Bounding down to the bottom of the pool and then bouncing up, the Marshtomp opened her maw again releasing the attack up through the water.
"S$%#!" Marley cursed as Marshtomp's attack hit its mark, scoring Shep right in the face. The Yamper let out a yelp in the water, suddenly splashing to the surface, trying to get the mud off of his face. "Shep! Ya alright mate?" Marley called out. Shep shook his head repeatedly, washing the mud off before giving a yap back at Marley. "Atta boy! Hang in there. Pay 'er back with a bite!" Shep yapped in response, before swimming towards the Marshtomp, teeth ready to bite into her again.
Breaking free from the water’s surface right after dishing out the attack, the Marshtomp gave a victorious cry in return. Hiro grinned but didn’t say anything immediately back. As the Yamper recovered, the battle went on again. As the electric pupper swam forward, the Marshtomp hopped back into the water again narrowly dodging the sharp teeth of the dog.
“Get in close for a Mud Shot again!” Hiro called. The Marshtomp rebounded off the bottom of the pool, broke up into the air, and spewed the mud from her maw this time high above the water.
Shep was ready for the Marshtomp this time. Fool my once, shame on you. Spray mud in my face twice, shame on me. The little dog almost did a barrel roll in the water, causing the mud shot to hit the water beside him. With the mud now just a harmless puddle in the water, Shep moved to position himself underneath the Marshtomp. He didn't need to wait for Marley's order. The little dog waited for him to come down, jaws wide and waiting to bite his opponent as he came down.

As the Marshtomp came down, she didn’t have time to avoid the strategic placement of the Yamper this time. She squirmed, managing to avoid just falling right on him, but that Bite did land on her side this time. The Mudfish Pokemon cried and squirmed. Hiro winced a little at the din, but when Marshtomp was quick to recover, not flinching, he was just as quick to give an order. “Scald!” was perhaps an unexpected call. The Marshtomp, however, was quick to spew the burningly hot water at Shep.

Shep let out a pained whine as he was hit by the scalding how water, burning his little face. Being shot with mud was one thing, but this just plain hurt! "Shep!" Marley yelled out, worried for his partner. He gave a low growl, glaring right at Hiro. "Bastard. Shep! Bite that damn thing's face off!"
Shep tried to fight through the pain in his face, as he lunged out, trying to bite at Marshtomp.

A small apologetic smile came to Hiro's face at the vulgar response of the challenger. "Sounds like you're ready to be a sailor," he commented. The Marshtomp, meanwhile, was not able to scramble away from the Yamper in time but took the Bite better than she had previously. A full body shake was given after. "Now then, Mud Shot!" Hiro called. The Marshtomp leapt back onto one of the island platforms for a moment before spewing mud back at the Yamper again.
As Shep chomped into the Marshtomp, Marley couldn't help but chuckle at Hiro's comment about him being a sailor. "You should 'ear us down in the mines." he said, expecting the water gym leader to never have spent anytime underground. But anyway, back to the battle. As Marshtomp launched another glob of mud at Shep, the little Yamper dove under the water, the cold water doing little to soothe the burns as the mud hit the water harmlessly. He wouldn't let his trainer down. He'd keep fighting! Shep leaped from the water, charging at Marshtomp, ready to bite.
Bite, Physical, 65 (moderate, 1.5 damage), -1 Attack due to burn, Dark Type -1 HP due to burn. Shep: 2HP·
A laugh escaped from Hiro in response to Marley's words, but that would be it from him right then. Just as the Yamper jumped up to sink his teeth into the Marshtomp again, she flipped back into the water fluidly disappearing under the surface once more. The waves seemed to rock a little more from the force of the motion before they settled again. "Tackle!" he called right after. Rushing through the water, Marshtomp leaped up again ready to hit the tiny pooch full body.
Shep let out a pained yelp as the Marshtomp crashed bodily into him. This, combined with the burn, proved too much for the Yamper. Letting out a pained whine, he slumped to the ground, falling unconscious. "Shep!" Marley yelled out, quickly pulling Shep's ball and recalling him. He looked down at the pokeball, a sad look on his face. "Ya did well Shep. I'm proud of ya..."
A small sympathetic smile came to Hiro’s features. “Ya ready to keep going?” he called. No substitutions meant Marshtomp was just going to keep swimming, but that was fine for now. They’d see what this trainer had up his sleeve next.
Indeed, Marley was saddened by Shep's loss, but he couldn't stop, simply because of that. He still had two more pokemon waiting in the wings. His expression hardened. "Sure," he replied. That damn Marshtomp would completely shut down Amp, but he had one that would give the Marshtomp the beating it deserved. "Come on out Maggie!" With a flash of light, Marley's Mismagius appeared on the field, floating over the water.
"Alright, let's do this. Maggie, hit it with a Magical Leaf!" Maggie seemed to sense the tension in the air, and was quick to respond, materializing and firing magically charged leaves at the Marshtomp.

“Under the water! Dodge it, Marshtomp!” Hiro called back. As the sparkling leaves came flying at her, the Marshtomp dove under the water and swam deep. The petals crashed into the water making many waves but not going far enough down to hit the deep swimming Pokemon. Heh what a nasty move… Hiro grinned a little. They couldn’t dodge like that too much, so they’d have to be careful from there on out.

Marley scowled lightly as the Marshtomp practically buried itself in the water, avoiding the attack. Well, at least she didn't try to attack back. This gave Marley and Maggie some breathing room. The Mismagius was hovering over the water, keeping an eye out for any sign of the Marshtomp. She'd have to come back up if she wanted to attack again.
"Maggie, when she shows her face, hit her with another Magical Leaf!"
Maggie nodded, keeping her eyes on the water's surface. The instant she saw something, she'd unleash another blast of magically charged leaves at the source.

“Marshtomp play peekaboo!” Hiro called. The Marshtomp slowly raised a fin up out of the water, and as a rush of magical leaves came crashing forward, it disappeared back down narrowly managing to avoid them this time. “Use Scald!” he called right after. Swimming about quickly, the Marshtomp broke the surface and sprayed the scalding liquid up towards the purple hat ghost.
Marley scowled as the Marshtomp's attack hit the Mismagius. Thankfully though the damn attack hadn't been enough to burn her. He was REALLY starting to hate that Marshtomp. "Maggie! Magical Leaf! Take that damn thing down!"

“Stay down in the water!” Hiro’s voice called. They had to be strategic if they wanted to— This time, whether from the angle of the trajectory or the force of desperation between the Mismagius and her trainer, the leaves seemed to smash through the water blowing the water higher than before. Marshtomp had about half a second to look upwards before suddenly being bombarded by them. She squirmed, trying in a last ditch effort to avoid the attack, only to be hit right after.
A flash of light exploded through the bottom of the pool before slowly but surely the Marshtomp floated to the surface. Hiro winced, what a nasty attack. He returned her, said a few words that weren’t quite audible across the battle field, and looked up and grinned at Marley. “Not bad!” he called.
“Next up, let’s go, Lombre!” he called releasing the rain dish Pokemon. “Let’s get a storm going!” The Lombre immediately twirled and expelled a strange light upwards. It quickly turned into rain that started to fall.
