Heh, so it was a battle in the dark after all. “Well then, I have three with me for singles,” he answered fishing out a Pokeball and enlarging it. Hopefully she’ll be able to see alright… “Roselle! Let’s go,” Gabe called. In a flash of light, a Venusaur appeared. She blinked, stretched, and looked around precariously at the various lanterns lighting the way. “It’s a battle in the dark…” Gabe spoke as if to answer her unspoken questions. The Venusaur hummed in response. Alright then. She had vines to feel about if need be. Time to see what the Gym Leader had.
A nod was given as the challenger stipulated what they preferred when it came to battles. "Three on three sounds great! Show me what you got!" A Venusaur, huh? What a strong first pokemon! Too bad she had just the right Pokemon for this one! "Alright! Weavile, come out and play!" Sable called out, grinning as the Weavile immediately struck a battle ready pose, face still mostly concealed by shadows. "First move goes to you! Let's have a fun match!"
A Weavile— Well damn, weren’t they nasty Pokemon? Gabe bit the inside of his mouth but smirked all the same. No one said Gym Challenges were easy. That sort of defeated the purpose at that point. The point, after all, was to struggle. “Sounds good,” he replied to that challenge. This would be fun.
Squinting in the darkness, Gabe could see the faint outline of the Weavile illuminated by the flames. Realizing just how much worse it would have been without a shred of light, Gabe was thankful he was at least somewhat witty. “Roselle, start out with Leech Seed,” Gabe decided right after. The Venusaur immediately released spores out into the air searching for a living body to be their target. If they could catch it, well, that would make the entire thing a game of waiting, and Gabe was fine with that.

Sable grinned when it appeared that Gabe was undaunted at the prospect of battling her Weavile. Leech Seed, huh? She had a good move to avoid those effects. "Weavile! Agility now!" Sable called, grinning as the Weavile took off, avoiding any and all attempts to seed her. "Nice move, but we know how to think on our feet~." That and the fact that her Weavile knew to stick to the shadows meant that they had a little bit of an upper hand now.
In the darkness, everything was louder. There was a sharp ‘whoosh’ sound of the seeds spraying in different directions. There was a louder clack clack of clawed toes reverberating off the flooring. A weird expression twisted up on Gabe’s features as his eyes searched the darkness already knowing that he wouldn’t be able to fully detail the sources now. Shesh, how terrible.
Rather than answer the Gym Leader’s words, Gabe ordered yet another attack instead. “Leech Seed,” was the repeated statement. The Venusaur was willing to comply again releasing the seeds out into the zone once more with just as much gusto as before. This was her first official battle, and she wasn’t going to let some overly bouncy weasel ruin it.

AQNt0Oiip_ 72 > 15 Leech Seed Hits! The Weavile was seeded!
The call for a second Leech Seed had Sable smiling a bit more. Well then, they were quite determined weren't they? "Get in close with Ice Shard then use Agility again!" Even if the Weavile was hit, it wouldn't slow her down much, Sable would make sure of that. The Weavile could feel the seeds hit her but didn't hesitate to throw the Ice Shard in the Venusaur's direction before speeding off again. The seeds were annoying, certainly but she was much to crafty to let those slow her down.
_spIHcBgp_ 44 < 67, Ice Shard Misses. Venusaur 10 HP
Gabe wasn’t sure that the Leech Seed had worked or not. It was too dark to tell, but with the order for Ice Shard, he was on the defensive. “Use your vines to smack them off course,” he ordered. The Venusaur raised up her vine-appendages and whacked one ice crystal and then another right out of her way taking no damage from the cold touch— for now at least. The Weavile was speeding off again, but a green glow from both Pokemon would catch Gabe’s eye right after. That was a draining technique. It had seeded after all. Good.
“Razor Leaf!” Gabe ordered right after. The Vensaur was getting into the rhythm in this. Even if they couldn’t necessarily see through the darkness all that way, the battlefield space was limited. If she released sharp leaves in every direction, it would be hard to avoid. It was draining, but not terrible. A flurry of them came forth stretching out aiming to cut.
Sable clicked her tongue when the Venusaur managed to avoid the attack. Pretty clever of them. No matter~! She had an idea how to take advantage of the situation! "Icy Wind! Keep it up, Weavile!" Sable called out, grinning as the Weavile managed to evade the Razor Leaf. She was just too speedy for the leaves to touch her apparently. The Weavile wove through the leaves, using Icy Wind to try and freeze the Venusaur. With how speedy the Weavile was right then, she was able to use Icy Wind not once, but twice as she tried to stick to the shadows, avoiding being hit. Ack, but that Leech Seed was annoying. The Weavile did wince a little at the pain but kept up the attack regardless.

Despite how speedy the Weavile was, it seemed not to be all that accurate. Two icy blasts came from the darkness but fell on either side of the Venusaur who didn’t even have to move right then to avoid them. Gabe, though, got a sudden chill as they went passed him as well and hit the wall behind. A small “Brr…. Ugh…” came and went from him. A green glow, though, assured him the Venusaur was stealing some of that strength away, though.
“Razor Leaf again!” Gabe called, and once more sharp leaves went crashing out from the Venusaur’s own leaves in all directions. They just had to keep on the offensive even if it was hard to see through this darkness.

How the-... It seemed that the Leech Seed was effecting Weavile more than she realized if both those attacks missed. No matter, they still had the upper hand here! The repeat Razor Leaf had Sable thinking quickly about what to do. While it may not be a super effective move, it would still do some damage on top of the Leech Seed. "Stick to the shadows! Avoid what you can!" It would be harder to hit the Weavile if she couldn't be seen. They needed to get on the offensive, and quick. "Icy Wind again! Don't let up!" The Weavile made a sound in agreement and used Icy Wind twice once more. Hopefully they would actually be able to hit the Venusaur this time.

A blast of icy wind came at Rose again only to miss right passed her. When she didn’t cry out, a breath escaped from Gabe— only to be cut short when a second Icy Wind did make contact and she whined. That was so unpleasant, human! A small half-laugh escaped from Gabe. “Alright, alright, use Giga Drain!” he ordered. The Venusaur began to glow bright green, trying to sap even more strength from the Weavile now. On top of that, though, she could harvest some of that energy from the constantly draining Leech Seed as well.
p_ Giga Drain, Moderate (2HP), will restore 1 HP if contact is made. Leech Seed restores +1 HP to Venusaur (wasn't applicable before because she had 10 HP) Venusaur: 7 + 1 = 8 HP.
The call for Giga Drain didn't have Sable all that concerned. It would be hard to hit her Weavile in the dark after all~. Humming a little, Sable rocked back and forth on her heels in thought. She didn't hear the Weavile cry out aside from a soft grunt from the Leech Seed's effects. With the speed advantage, she opted not to change her strategy quite yet. At least, not at this stage in the game. "You're pretty clever, but we're not out just yet! Icy Wind again!" Sable called out, hearing the Weavile race towards the Venusaur again and use the attack. Hopefully it hits this time...

A small half-hearted laugh escaped from Gabe at that compliment, if one could call it that. “Have to be,” was all he’d answer before those speedy Icy Winds came again. One just clearly missed Venusaur yet again, but the second earned a small cry of pain in response. Gabe winced, but as the green of Leech Seed reflected in the darkness, he was assured that Rose was not out just yet. Sapping the strength from the Weavile one leg at a time was the best they could do in this case. “Giga Drain again,” he called. Rose cried a battle tone and then once more glowed green before sending out that light to steal more from the Weavile.
p_ Giga Drain, Moderate (2HP), will restore 1 HP if contact is made. Leech Seed: 5 + 1 = 6 HP.
The call for Giga Drain for a second time had Sable biting her lip. They had been lucky thus far, but she knew that wouldn't last very long. The cry from the Weavile confirmed this but this was far from over. "Icy Wind! Again! We can do this, Weavile!" Sable encouraged. She wasn't about to give up on this battle, no matter how bleak it might seem right then and there.

Gabe would be lying if he said he was completely cool (pun intended), but he felt they were going strong really. Even with another blast of cold air contacting with Roselle, the return on investment from the Giga drain and the Leech Seed was keeping her going strong. Speaking of Giga Drain. “Again, Rose!” was called. The Venusaur gave a cry and sure enough released the green drain again where she believed the Weavile to be.
p_ Giga Drain, Moderate (2HP), will restore 1 HP if contact is made. Leech Seed 4 + 1 = 5 HP
Well, drat. It seemed the longer this battle raged on, the more of a disadvantage Weavile was and by extension, Sable. That Leech Seed was pretty nasty, chipping away at her Weavile like that. Maybe it would be better if I switched tactics. Mmmm, but was there a move in Weavile's arsenal that would be of any use? No, not at this point. "It's not over yet, Weavile! Hang in there and use Icy Wind!"

Venusaur: Giga Drain, 4 + 1 = 5 HP then Icy Wind 5 - 3 = 2 HP then Leech Seed 2 + 1 = 3 HP.
A blast of Icy Wind broke across Rose this time more accurate than the last. Gabe grimaced a little, but Rose was not down and out just yet. She still had regained some energy and power form the Weavile itself, and if they could just defeat that, they were doing pretty good. “Giga Drain again,” Gabe called. No matter what, they just had to stay conscious at this point. Rose acted as such, shooting out green to search and drain from. At least the Leech Seed was still there to kind of direct her.

Giga Drain 100 (game accuracy) - 10 (LR modifier) = 90 - 20 (Weavile evasion) = 70. 100-70 = 30 Must be greater than 30 to hit. Giga Drain hits. Moderate attack, 2HP, Venusaur regains 1 HP. Venusaur 3 HP + 1 from Giga Drain = 4 HP.
Even knowing that Weavile wouldn't last much longer, Sable couldn't help but be impressed. Perhaps if Weavile had been able to hit more in the dark, they might've gained the upper hand but Gabe had a good strategy in the end. "One more time! Icy Wind!" Sable called out. If they were going out, they were going out fighting. The Weavile understood and used the move one more time before the Leech Seed took effect again. Weavile couldn't fight anymore and was returned thereafter. "Great job! You had a great strategy there!" Sable cheered, smiling despite the loss, "Are you ready for my next one?"

A blast of icy wind broke from the darkness again, but Rose managed to withstand it sapping just a little strength back in turn. She was severely weakened but not out just yet. A low rumbling noise escaped from her alerting Gabe as such. He squinted a bit through the darkness and hummed back. They needed to act quickly.
“Giga—“ Gabe started but didn’t finish. A sound had caught his ears instead. Weavile had fallen over fainted, and a red light from a Pokeball showed Sable was returning it. Wait— We won… One battle, anyways. But still No. Rose isn’t in great shape. There was no time for victory right then. “Bring it on,” was all he’d answer back with.
At Gabe's response, Sable nodded and giggled, enlarging her next pokeball and releasing...what appeared to be a Grimmsnarl. It seemed the Zoroark's Illusion was making it appear that way at any rate. Sable wasn't going to waste any time, and gestured towards the Venusaur. "Your move!" Sable called out.
