As Aster approached the entrance to the Glowworm Caverns on the Pine Town side, she felt overwhelmingly like she was in the right place at the right time. Her brand new Pokemon, a yet unnamed Goomy, sat on her shoulder. The rare little Pokemon had been a lucky draw in a game, and she'd instantly seen how sweet the little tyke was and wanted to bring it along on this adventure. The Goomy was a bit slimy, but he seemed to be enjoying being up high. He didn't weigh much, even for his large size, and the goo would wash off of her clothes with no trouble, she figured. She thought about names as she entered the cavern, but instantly forgot what she was thinking about when her eyes adjusted and her jaw dropped.
The whole cavern was populated by thick carpets of moss, glowing blue-white in the otherwise pitch blackness of the cave. She could hear a steady distant dripping, but Aster was focused entirely on the moss in front of her. She reached out and touched some of it, gently, not wanting to harm it, and found that the glowing property came away in her hand; the moss seemed to dull a bit where she'd touched it, but her hand was glowing now too!
Goomy, seeing the interesting thing his trainer did, glopped on down the front of her shirt, staying on from suction alone as his mesmerized trainer stared at the moss and her hand, then plopped gently onto the floor. He approached a moss chunk and ran it over, picking up the glow with his lower body and giving him a lamp-like appearance. Aster, finally realizing that her Pokemon was gone, looked around for him and spotted him, giving him a huge grin.
"This moss is amazin'! Ah wonder if ah could grow it back home?" Unfortunately, Aster hadn't thought about bringing any jars with her when she left home to try to take some of this interesting plant along safely. She figured she could come back for some later; after all, she wasn't too far from home now, only a few towns and a still long but not quite so intimidating walk through some routes.
"Er. How about Lilac fer a name, little guy?" The Goomy glowed thoughtfully, rolling himself in the moss a bit as he mused over the name, then he made a pleased cry and dripped onto the floor. "Lilac it is. Come on, ah can walk faster than you can glob, let's get goin'." Aster lifted the glowing, dripping slime Pokemon up and stuck him back to her shoulder, where he glommed on like a weird purple suction cup.

Admiring the glowing mosses and interesting stones in the walls, Aster didn't notice for a few moments that a group of Pokemon was coming her way. Lilac noticed first and made some wet squishing sounds to alert his trainer, and she saw that the Pokemon coming at them were a big group of Spoink. They were very pretty in this cave, with their pink pearls reflecting the glow back onto the walls and sparkling a bit.
"Hi there, little guys!" Aster thought they looked friendly, so she waved at them as they bounced closer. The little pigs looked up at her with a chorus of adorable snorts, bouncing in place on their tails as they paused in their movement forward. Lilac gave them a squishy greeting sound as well, but unfortunately for them, the lead Spoink took this noise and the presence of a trainer with a Pokemon as a challenge to fight, and he puffed up and oinked loudly, calling the other Spoink to attention.
Still moving up and down on their tails but staying in one place, the Spoink waited for the trainer to order her Pokemon. Aster hesitated, then placed Lilac on the cave floor, removing him from her shoulder with a wet sploot noise.
"Y'think ya got this, Lilac?" she asked as Lilac splatted onto the floor. The Goomy gave a happy squelch, then moved forward and opened his mouth, releasing a dark green Dragonbreath on the wild Spoink horde. The lead Spoink took most of the hit, and he looked a little weaker, but he stood his wobbly ground.
Three of the Spoink used Psywave or Psybeam, with one other using Psych Up and the final using Confuse Ray. Lilac managed to avoid the Confuse Ray, but was struck by a few of the Psychic attacks and looked a little worn once all the Spoink had finally moved. He looked to Aster for instruction.
"Use Protect, then see if you can find an openin'!" Lilac Protected himself, avoiding the entire next wave of attacks, then moved forward faster than Aster thought he'd be able to and got into the middle of the group. "Use Dragonbreath again, Lilac! See if ya can get all of 'em real good!"
The green breath attack did manage to strike all of the Spoink, with two of them becoming Paralyzed from it and one of those two being unable to move for that round. None of them went down, however, and now poor Lilac was right in the center and vulnerable to their next strikes. He was hit by a well-aimed Zen Headbutt, right in the side, then two used Psych Up, one used Odor Sleuth, and the remaining one that wasn't fully paralyzed used Psybeam.
"Hang in there, Lilac, you got this!" Lilac braced before everything hit him, and managed to hang on alright. He looked determinedly at Aster, ready to keep fighting for a bit longer. "Alright, now, use Flail!"
Lilac waited until the Spoink closed in more, coming closer and closer, thinking they'd be able to take him down the rest of the way, when he suddenly burst out with a strong Flail attack, boosted by his weakness. He managed to take out two of the Spoink with that outburst, and the shock of seeing their allies go down so suddenly caused the two Paralyzed ones to become fully paralyzed and unable to attack. Aster bit her lip; if she left Lilac in there, he'd go down in the next move, so she decided to bring him back in, returning him to his ball.
Aster tossed out another Poke Ball, then a third, releasing first Spiderlily the Gossifleur, then Clover the Flaaffy. Even with the wild Spoink being stronger than her, Clover should be able to take the rest of them down easy, Aster thought.
"Spiderlily, watch Clover n' see how it's done. Clover! Use Cotton Spore t' slow 'em down, then Thunder Shock!" The Flaaffy obediently sent floating spores of fluff off to cling to the Spoink; between that and the paralyzation and the shock, the Spoink didn't move again. As soon as she'd finished the Cotton Spore, Clover approached the horde and got all of them with one big Thunder Shock, zapping two more to a crisp. The final Spoink looked ready to cry, but she stomped once on the cave floor and the final Spoink fled suddenly, hopping rapidly back down the tunnel from where they'd approached from. The other Spoink shook themselves and followed, frantic to get away.
Spiderlily sat in awe at Clover's prowess in battle, looking up at Aster and back at Clover with wonder. Clover gave a snort and posed dramatically, showing off for her young teammate. "Alright, alright, ya big ham, get back here.." Aster rolled her eyes with a grin, returning Clover and Spiderlily to their balls and releasing Lilac again.
"Y'did real good, Lilac, but ah didn't want ya t'get knocked out." Lilac had looked a little hurt at being returned mid fight, but seemed to understand the explanation and gave a gooey noise in response. They kept walking.

A tiny, cute metal Pokemon approached next. Aster spotted this one right away as it gleamed in the gentle glow of the moss. She stepped forward, crouching down to see the little Pokemon a bit better. "Well, hey there, little one! Aren't ya cute?"
The Aron nervously backed away, shaking its little head. It seemed to be afraid, so Aster shrugged and stood back up. "Sorry, didn't mean t'scare ya." The Aron blinked, looking confused by her backing off, and stared up at her with bright eyes. "Didya need somethin'?" Aster asked. She looked at Lilac for clarification, but he wasn't paying attention at all.
The Aron stood up on its hind legs and gave a little begging motion as Aster pulled out her phone and ran the Pokedex app, hoping to find out more about the Pokemon. "Oh, y'eat metal? That's pretty neat.." she muttered, putting the phone away. "M'afraid I ain't got anythin' fer you t'eat, little bud. Sorry 'bout that."
Dejected, the Aron dropped back down to all fours and looked down forlornly, shaking his little head. He wandered off, and Aster and Lilac continued on their journey.
