The sky had darkened completely by the time Reptar’s feet touched down on the sand of Plum Island. The lights of the city shined brightly, though, illuminating the way up the path and into the heart of the capital. It was a straight shot now up the beach way and down the main street. The only thing that had kept them from landing closer was the chance of knocking into buildings or otherwise being noticed. Still they had finally made it.
Rep grumbled softly as he lowered his form to the ground and waited for the humans to decide to get off of him. What was supposed to have been a simple, easy flight, had turned into a downright nightmare, and he wanted to wake up already. For a moment, though, Gabe didn’t move from his place on Rep’s back. His arms remained around Senara’s waist. His face remained pressed into her back. His eyes remained shut. Gabe didn’t want to move.
Still, a grunt from Rep would have Gabe slowly easing back again, a low groan escaping from him. Slowly sliding off and landing both feet in the sand, he immediately stumbled, both legs giving out under him, and landed sideways in the sand. “Fuck!” A weird breath, not quite a laugh, came and went as he forced himself back up and around, unstrapping the harness’s ties if Senara didn’t do it herself already. After that, he’d clasp her hands and help her off Rep. Returning the Charizard finally after, Gabe slowly looked up the way. “I have Clopper, but I’m too stiff to ride…”

Senara's legs were not in great shape, but they were probably better off than Gabe's. She had less Charizard to hold onto, plus the straps kept her from needing to hold on too tight to keep from slipping off. Still, after three hours of flight, she could hardly feel her thighs. Ouch. And it didn't help that she hadn't been able to move her back or shoulders around too much, because....well, he was still wrapped around her, even now.
She had not meant for things to spill open like they had. It had started out with concern--Gabe's injuries hadn't been life-threatening, but they'd been painful enough that he may have fainted if they'd just kept going--but turned into something else. Something that ended with them sitting there just holding one another while he told her about his abilities and she reassured him not to fear. She wasn't scared that he was a psychic any more than he'd been when he'd learned she could read auras. That said, she still wasn't sure how alright she was with him accidentally reading her mind. Hopefully Harriet would be able to teach him to control that, or Senara would need to invest in tin-foil hats. Hah.
With their ride on solid ground Senara gave Gabe's hands around her torso a small poke. "Rise and shine, bras maigres, I want to feel my legs again." Gabe begrudgingly released her and she raised her arms up, hearing her shoulders pop in both a satisfying and painful way. Followed, of course, by Gabe cursing and collapsing into the sand. She turned around as much as she could with the straps still on to look at him. "Are you alright?? Whu--" She blinked. Oh. He was laughing, sort of, and looked okay.
Okay. Good.
She leaned forward and undid the straps in time for him to get back up and offer her a hand in climbing down the Charizard. She gave Reptar one more fond pat on the head before he was returned in a beam of red light to his pokeball, then looked back up to Gabe. They'd been pretty quiet since then. A couple times she'd worried that he had fallen asleep on her back, but his arms would tighten or his voice would pipe up in her ear, sometimes in a language she didn't know, and she'd know he wasn't. It was...mm...
"I don't know about you," she snickered, putting her hands on her hips and swaying too and fro, "But I need to teach myself how to walk after a ride like that, so let's go a little while on foot, and then decide if we want or need a lift, or not. Sound like a plan?"
A small half-laugh escaped from Gabe as Senara spoke. “Sounds like a plan,” he replied shifting about to look through the darkness. “The hotel’s on the main road, just up that way.” Stepping forward made him groan, but the more Gabe moved his legs the less painful it was to move them. His eyes flicked sideways to Senara and stayed there for a moment after. “I’m kind of a regular there, so they shouldn’t say much of anything.” He kept walking and maybe took a few more steps wider than usual to try and feel out his legs.
“I … can’t remember if you’d said you’d been to Plum before or not. It’s Arciel’s capital and hot spot for a lot of different things.” Gabe didn’t know why he bothered saying these things. He’d guessed Senara would have already looked up all there was to know about Plum before they even came here. Especially given the fact that she’d already looked him up. But right then and there, he felt… a little more open than he had been in a while.
"I've never been but once to fill out my visa papers," Senara twisted her arms side-to-side with her steps, enjoying the creak of her bones as much as nails on a chalkboard. Oof. Next time, she was taking the ferry...well, the next time that didn't involve running from a heist. "What brings you here so often? Just a fan of the atmosphere?"
The closer they grew to plum, the closer Senara's steps grew to Gabe's own, until she was almost glued to his side. She drew up the collar of her coat until it hid her up to her cheeks. She could hear the crowds the closer they got. She hated it. Even if it was just walking down the street, not looking at anyone, talking to anyone, she could still feel them around her. It wasn't just aura sense. It had been like that for far longer than that.
Don't look at me. Don't. Don't look at me. Just...don't exist. I don't...
Ah, that made sense. Senara lived in Pine normally, after all, and Plum was pretty far in comparison. The question had him shaking his head, though. “It’s the closest big city to Bass,” Gabe started. “When I want to get out of town but not go into the wilderness, it’s easy to just hop the ferry and go.”
Gabe paused a moment letting the gentle sound of sand under his shoes lull his mind for a moment. “I… recently bought some land on the coastline near Cherry Town. Mostly on a whim.” And because it was there and practically a steal given everything. Even if he didn’t immediately build anything on it, it was a place to go.
He fell silent after, his eyes focused more on the lights now and trying to discern where exactly they were. He wouldn’t fully register Senara’s worries until all at once it was like she was whispering in his ear. Don't look at me. Don't. Don't look at me. Just...don't exist. I don't... Gabe stopped walking. “…Senara?”
She could see Gabe enjoying something like the big city. He'd looked pretty at home at the heart of the Halloween party, and apparently had the charisma to charm even Pine's stranger-danger citizens into getting her name. Why he would chose to buy a farm was a little beyond her but, hey, if it was close to here then she could see it. "I'm trying to imagine you on farmland. With, like, a straw hat and piece of wheat in your teeth, and your hair all messy." She snickered and shook her head. "Image does not compute."
Senara, though, was much better suited to large collections of rocks than people. As long as she stayed quiet, and kept her head down, she would be fine. Fine. Just fine.
Just...
Senara almost walked into Gabe when he stopped, but caught her steps just in time. "Hm?" She looked up, smiling just enough that it reached her eyes since her mouth was hidden by her coat collar. "What's up? Ah--" Her hand released his sleeve, fiddling with her zipper instead. "--sorry, was I pulling on you?"
Gabe bit the inside of his mouth. “Just wanted to make sure you were close. These streets are easy to get turned around on even just walking down the street,” he answered. Pausing, Gabe reached for and then clasped around Senara’s hand instead before tugging her along the rest of the way. Maybe he’d ask her about that another time.
The hotel was before them now and looked fancy and clean. It was not the most expensive place by far (that was the hotel on the other side of the street that overlooked the water), but it was by no means a motel. The air had a soft flower fragrance on entrance, and their heels immediately clicked on the marble flooring tiles. Subtly, the sound of flowing water off a rock wall would fill the rest of the space. It was cool but cozy enough.
Walking up to the front desk where a sleepy looking attendant waited, Gabe prompted right after. “I had two rooms under reserve for Gabe Alim.”
The attendant immediately sat up and started typing into his computer. He’d pause, however, look up at Gabe and then sideways at Senara, and then back at his screen again. “Uh…. sorry Mr. Alim… we only have one room available right now,” he stated.
“…Excuse me?” Gabe challenged.
“Ap-apparently you had check in for eight and it’s e-eleven now, so one of the rooms was taken by another patron….” The clerk was keeping mighty cool for someone under scrutiny but also trembled ever so slightly at Gabe’s stare.

Without any more warning than that, Senara was suddenly taken by the hand and was lead onward through the city. She only managed a confused "Oh, okay?" before they were onto the streets, and she suddenly went dead silent. It...helped that Gabe was keeping her so close. She could keep her eyes down on the sidewalk and not need to look at where she was going--and at all the people around them and their eyes looking at her and their thoughts judging her and--but instead just following his guidance. Before she even knew it they were at the hotel, and the lobby was silent enough that she could look up again and find not a soul around but them. She still didn't let his hand go.
Senara only registered the direction the conversation had gone a couple seconds late. Oh great. That flight had taken so much longer than anticipated and now... "We're double-booked then?" She pursed her lips, considering her options. She could try to find another place. But they needed to be close to one another to make it to the docks on time to track the van. And this area was pricey--more pricey than she, despite her profession--could throw money away on without thinking about it.
So she bit the bullet.
"One room will be fine. Is it a single bed in the room, or double?" She smiled sweetly at the receptionist. "And if it is a single, is there a couch? Or could a cot be brought in?" Her eye glanced up to Gabe. He could probably complain his way into getting an extra room if there were any, but that sort of fuss could draw attention. Or...worse.
Just go with it. Roll with it. Improvise. Besides, it's Gabe. I...can trust him not to kill me in my sleep, if nothing else. And I know where his weak-spot is right now if he tried, heh.
Gabe was silently staring down the clerk. The clerk looked sideways and nodded at Senara. “M-my apologies, ma’am…” they went on. “We don’t have any other rooms available in that block…” Block? So maybe there were other room styles available? That would probably hike up the price quite a bit but—
One room is fine— Gabe’s eyes flicked sideways to Senara. “…”
The clerk seemed to straighten and brighten at that response. “Ah, double queens,” they answered quickly. “If that’s alright then. I can set you both up.” Already their hands were moving across the keys of their computer.
“Yeah, that’s fine,” Gabe finally responded after the fact.
The clerk set out their keycards and explained the necessities. They’d be on the fifth floor, the top floor, as was requested. There were ice machines on either end of the hallway if they needed. The room itself had a mini-fridge, microwave, TV, and high speed WiFi hookup. Gabe waved off some of the clerk’s other words before snagging the keys (and an apple from the fruit basket) and starting towards the elevator.
It was only when the elevator doors had closed that Gabe sighed audibly and sank against the wall. “….You sure this’s fine?” he asked.

"That sounds great. Thank you so much!" Senara kept her smile bright, but kept her hold on Gabe's until they were given their key-cards. She slid hers into her coat pocket.
Down the hall a little bit and to the elevators she kept looking up at him. Something was bothering his aura still--it wasn't the calm pastels and gentle flame it usually was. Was it because he was exhausted? Irritated about the rooms being merged? It wasn't ideal, but it wasn't the be-all and end-all of their plan that they'd have separate rooms. Once they were alone she pressed the little '5' button for the elevator and stepped back to lean against the railing. And watched Gabe take the same action a little more extremely and slink down to the floor. She snorted softly. "Oh, please. It's not like we're gonna share a bed. Besides, you're hurt, we're both exhausted, and I'd rather not hike around the city looking for a place to get a room of my own."
Senara rolled her neck and shoulders. "And it's not like either of us will hurt the other."
1...2...3...come on, hurry up elevator.
"Have you got a secret psychic bedtime ritual that will scar me? Or maybe you need to bathe in the blood of Aipoms to keep your hair that color?" She smirked down at him.
Senara’s snort earned a small snort from Gabe in turn. Despite himself, Gabe smiled a bit. “True,” he supposed. They needed to get as much sleep as they could before the heist. Ugh it’s already so late…. His thoughts cut out, though, as she went on. A small smirk quirked at the corners of his mouth, and he hummed a little at that. “Also true….” was the answer.
The question that followed earned a small, genuine snicker. “I sleep with Fire type Pokemon,” he answered. “All squished against me.” He smirked a little and glanced back up at her. “That count as weird?”Ding! That was the fifth floor, and the doors were opening after. Gabe grumbled as he shoved himself back up and started out into the hallway. It was rather fancy but dimly lit so as not to annoy sleeping patrons. Just down the hallway, their keycards would open a door and reveal the room.
Just as the clerk had said, it was two queens and TV across from them, pretty standard stuff with a few embellished complimentary things here and there. Gabe stepped in and twisted around to the bathroom. “Arceus fuck my hair—“ was the sudden complaint. Yeah it was a mess from wind and sea breeze, and who knew what else.

Gabe slept with Fire type Pokemon. Wow, shocking, the guy with an aura that looked like fire and had a billion Fire types likes to cuddle and sleep with said Fire types. Wow. Though on second thought she took pause. "How many are we talking about, because if you're about to unleash six whole Fire Pokemon, I'm going to need to crank up the A/C."
She only tended to sleep with Baby Girl at her side and Polochon somewhere around her, usually on the floor because Snorlax were able to sleep anywhere, but the squad of small Pokemon she'd had with her for a while were also apt to find nooks and crannies and sleep about wherever they pleased. She could probably let them out, too...except for Neigeux, given their typing. She didn't want one of Gabe's Pokemon getting any bright ideas. And Gabby, no matter how much Gabe liked them, was not trustworthy enough to sleep around. So Baby Girl, Polochon, and Sphorb would be fine. The first two could handle themselves and Sphorb...well, he was a Water type. She might need him if one of Gabe's cuddle buddies was his volatile teenage lizard, Lizbeth.
...will she be, though? He'd sounded like he'd forgiven her, but...she's still not...safe.
Once the elevator was open and they'd made their way down the hall and to the room, Senara removed her bag from her back and plopped it unceremoniously down onto the end of the far-side bed. Then flopped herself onto the bed as well. She laughed, the sound muffled by the bedding, at Gabe's outcry for his poor hair. "Aipom blood it is," she said dryly, raising an arm in a "I was right!" pointed gesture before it dropped down again. She lay that way for a little while longer. Ugh. Sleep. She wanted to sleep but she also wanted to get ready to sleep first. No way was she sleeping in these sea-salt and sand covered clothes. Senara forced herself back up and removed her jacket, revealing the simple red sweater underneath, then slipped Baby Girl, Polochon, and Sphorb's pokeballs from the pockets before hanging it up on a coat hangar.
"Dibs on the far bed already. Also, hurry up in there, my hair's probably just as bad."
Gabe snickered and didn’t answer the question. Did he have a team of six with him right then to lay in bed with? No, he actually only had Lizbeth and Reptar, but that was going to be enough between the three of them. Both Liz and Rep were already large for their species— and Liz looked like she was bordering of if not already huge.
Looking in the mirror, though, Gabe could only groan. He felt like a mess, and given the last couple of hours, he supposed that tracked. As Senara called, though, he gave a small grunt, walked over to the bathroom door, and closed it. “Taking a shower first,” was the muffled call. The sound of water in pipes reverberated through the walls for a moment in conformation. They lasted for a just a little bit before ceasing again. Arceus, which Pokemon’s held item was his extra pair of clothes again? Right, Frosty. The sharp cry of a startled Delibird reverberated once before being hushed again. After that, Gabe returned him and finally stepped out.
He wore a looser shirt now, one seemingly far too big for himself that, among the folds, read “Body Builder” across the front. The pants he wore were sleek and tight, though, fitting him well. His damp hair was braided back into a loose braid that ended just beyond his butt. Rubbing the side of his face, he mumbled something in Arroian before walking over and flopping onto the bed closest to the door. “Hot water nice….” he muttered through the blankets now.

"Wha--uuugh, fine!"
Senara huffed aloud and went back to her bed, taking off her shoes to sit on the comforter, legs crisscrossed, while going through her bag. She took out her hairbrush and without looking started combing to see if it felt knotted. While not particularly a hard-worker in terms of her appearance, she did condition her hair, so it wasn't that terrible. She wasn't about to take a shower, though. Sleeping with wet hair only made it worse.
A minute or so later she released Sphorb from his ball to help her. The basketball-sized ball of blubber rolled up to her and bumped her arm, which earned a small giggle as she pet his round head. "Pouvez-vous vaporiser mes cheveux un peu?" With a bark, Sphorb pursed his mouth into a small 'o' and a faint spray of water misted over her hair, making it easier to brush without getting soaking wet. Once she could run her fingers through it without tangling she tied it up with a pair of black scrunchies into two big buns.
When Gabe came back out he'd find her glancing through her phone with Sphorb sat on her legs, flippers patting her knees every now and then. She looked up in his direction, took one look at that shirt, and snorted loudly. "Did you steal that from Amell? Or did he give it to you to remember him by on your long trip out?" She teased, putting her phone and her Spheal to the side as she stood up. She took something black from the bag and started in the direction of the bathroom. "You're not gonna hair-dry it? You'll get sick."
In the bathroom she locked the door and unfolded the clothes she'd brought to sleep in.
Then, pausing, stared at herself in the mirror at her rapidly reddening cheeks. WHY did I bring THIS?!
BECAUSE I THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE MY OWN ROOM!!
What do I do?! This is so embarrassing to wear!!
It's not like I brought any other nightclothes, do I WANT to wear jeans to bed??
Oh my Arceus, just...it doesn't matter! Just. Maybe if I don't acknowledge it, he won't say anything about it. Like. It's just bed clothes! That...that happen to be...in the...
Senara splashed some cold water on her face to try and ease the redness, then began to change into the outfit she'd brought with her. Sphorb, meanwhile, seeing a new face rolled off the bed and hopped onto Gabe's own, plopping next to him and barking at him with the most cheerful chubby grin a Spheal could muster. Which was pretty chubby.
Did Gabe steal this particular shirt from Amell? Absolutely. Was he going to admit to it? Not at all. “Mmmmmmm” was the answer Senara would receive immediately. At the follow up question, he looked back to raise an eyebrow at her. “That sounds like an old wives’ tale,” he retorted. Granted, he had considered washing it but ultimately couldn’t bring himself to bother.
As Senara disappeared into the bathroom, Gabe slipped into bed. It wasn’t perfect but wasn’t too uncomfortable. He might have started dozing had he not come face to face with a very spherical creature now on his bed. Staring at it as it barked at him, Gabe slowly tilted his head to one side and then the other. What was this thing again? Seel? No that was something else. This thing was pretty round and…. Eh, whatever. A hand awkwardly reached out to pat the creature for now. “You’re cute but look like a Water Type.”
Sphorb barked again in joy as he received some pats, quite literally bouncing up to meet Gabe's hand. To confirm their thoughts he tilted back and blew out a very small puff of frosty air--not enough to chill Gabe, certainly, but enough to get the point across what his typing was. He barked once more and rolled too and fro from side to side.
Senara finished changing into her nightclothes and was staring herself in the mirror. Let it be known that it was not her only set of Pokemon-themed pajamas, but it was, at least, the most likely to be mistaken for just a plain black gown if one wasn't looking hard enough. The yellow rings on the knees and elbows meant to resemble an Umbreon's could be missed if only viewed from the front, and the hood...well, if she didn't wear it and kept it tucked in it wouldn't even be noticeable. But if she tried to hide it, the odds of her waking up and forgetting it and being spotted in the morning were still there, and, honestly, at this point she was too tired to give a shit what Gabe could say about them.
Well, she said that to herself, but she could still feel her nerves bubbling her her belly.
She wasn't going to get anywhere glaring at her reflection, though, so she pulled the hood over her head and decided to just fucking own it. She unlocked the bathroom, dirty clothes wrapped up in her shirt like a baggy, and strolled as casually across the room as a woman in an Umbreon onesie could stroll. "It's probably a wives tale," she tried to pick up right from where they'd left off, "But it is true that your hair dries funny if you sleep on it wet. Are you planning on robbing the bank with wonky looking hair, Gabby?"
Sphorb looked to his trainer and barked excitedly. She gave him a small glance and a grin. "Oh, good, you're already making friends. Sphorb, meet Gabe. Gabe, Sphorb."
Gabe deadpanned as the Spheal (oh yeah that was what it was called) showed off its power. Ah yes, exactly what he disliked, lovely. Still, perhaps the fact that it was so dog like helped, and Gabe was more than willing to keep petting it for now at least. As Senara stepped out of the bathroom, though, his attention flicked to—
“….”
He might not have recognized what exactly Senara was wearing had it not been for the hood of it having ears, but it did and he saw them and—Senara was trying to pick up the conversation where they had left off, but Gabe was snickering now. “That’s cute,” he cut in briefly. Even still, a hand reached back to feel through his hair. It would most likely be wavy as hell if he decided to let it down the next morning, but he’d already resolved not to. “Didn’t realize we’d also have to deal with the fashion police while there,” he retorted softly back.
As the round sphere of joy was named, Gabe looked back at him again. “Hello Sphorb…” Gabe stated reaching and pulling one of the baby’s ears now. “My what a squishy thing you are…” His eye flicked sideways at Senara again. “Though not nearly as squishy as that onsie.”
I am going to punch that snickering mouth of his the next time it's in reach.
...well, no I won't, but I will think of it.
"It's comfortable. And I didn't think I'd be sharing a room with you," Senara was curt, cold, and absolutely red-cheeked as she glared over her shoulder at Gabe before turning back to her bag and putting the dirtied clothed in a smaller pull-string bag. She liked travel. Usually she was camping, not in a fancy hotel, but the idea still stood. With it done she dropped the bag onto the floor. "At least it's not my hopelessly dumb man-crush's stolen t-shirt. That'd just be sad to wear to sleep."
She took Baby Girl and Polochon's pokeballs from off the bedside table and clicked the buttons. Two identical beams of light hit the bed and in their place sat (well, lay) a Snorlax and a Sableye, both of whom Gabe had seen before. Baby Girl took a look around the room, spotted Gabe, and made a very exaggerated head gesture. Was...was that her "rolling" her "eyes", given that she had no pupils? Hm. Polochon just nestled into the bed--which held up, surprisingly, under his weight--and gave a small wave. In an instant Sphorb had bounded from Gabe's side to right up against Polochon's, nuzzling into the Snorlax's tummy. "These are who I usually have out at night," Senara spoke as Baby Girl scurried up to her and climbed not only onto Senara's shoulder but into the hood itself, peering her little glowing eyes out, "Jouez bien, petite fille. Je vous ai dit que nous étions amis maintenant. Pas d'amis mordants. So? Let's see those Fire types."
Gabe snickered again, more audibly this time. A wide, toothy smile held on his features even as Senara gave her defense for her night-onsie. “Sure,” he answered back with a vicious smile right then. As she went on, though, his features fell some. Sad to wear to sleep… Yeah, probably, but whatever.
He watched as the tiniest Snorlax ever and Sableye were released with a curious look, but when it came time for his own Pokemon, he couldn’t help but refocus. Shifting a bit, Gabe grabbed several Pokeballs from a pant-pocket and enlarged them. “Alright, you guys,” he murmured tossing them up. In a flash of six lights, there did appear six Fire Pokemon readily available.
The first was Reptar. His rather large form immediately had him slouching in the hotel room, leaning forward on his arms. He settled rather fluidly down onto the floor, curling about the queen sized bed-scape as if it were second nature at this point. His tail found a place away from anything burnable and rested comfortably. The second was much smaller, a Litwick that rather quickly settled on the end of Rep’s tail and was comfortable there. All that came after piled on the bed. A Litleo whose colors were much brighter than normal (and who perhaps sparkled a little on being released from the Pokeball) immediately started walking in circles on one side of Gabe’s legs. Another, a Vulpix, immediately flopped both legs forward and deflated to something akin to a red blanket. Another still, a beautiful but surprisingly small Ninetales, curled up against the Vulpix.
…And then there was Lizbeth who sat crouched on the bed in all of her tall massive glory. At over six foot tall, she was huge for her species, and the dark orangish red of her scales veered heavily on the red side. The fire of her tail burned brightly as did the fire in her eyes. She did not settle immediately. Her gaze did not flick to Gabe. It was on Senara and Senara only. Immediately, she was sizing her up.
Was that a bit of a low blow? Maybe, maybe not. He'd been making fun of her though so he deserved a little kick in the teeth. Senara, ever curious, turned around completely to watch the absolute herd of Fire types as they appeared one by one, starting with a more familiar face--she smiled and waved at Reptar again--then those she did not know. A Litwick with the same unique coloration as the one Greer had, a Litleo that was totally shiny and oh WOW was she jealous of that, a pair of Vulpix...wait, no, one Vulpix and a very small Ninetails, and the one she'd half-expected not to see at all: the Charmeleon.
Senara swallowed, taking a step closer, then better judgement kicked in.
The Charizard line is one of the roughest to train, she remembered from far too many courses on evolution, At their middle stage they are violent, hot-headed, and have far larger claws than their previous evolution. So when raising one, patience is key...
She swallowed and pushed her best smile forward. Being looked down at by Liz didn't help things in the slightest. "Hey there...you must be Lizbeth....wow, you're taller than I expected," she took pause in her anxiety to look between Liz and Gabe, "You didn't say she was even bigger than you. That's insane. How big will she be as a Charizard??"
Atop her shoulder, Baby Girl made a brief click of her teeth in Liz's direction, grinning.
