Riley had tried a contest once before... sort of. She'd signed up, gotten dressed up, and got backstage to await the start of the appeals round, but technical difficulties caused the contest to be called off. As such, she'd done the pre-contest jitters thing before, but not actually the competition part. She didn't know if this made it easier, in that she was definitely more eager than nervous this time, or harder, in that she was all the more aware of how many things could go wrong. Still, what were the odds of getting canceled twice? At least this time any mishaps should hopefully be caused by the contestants (hopefully the other contestants, heh) and not the staff.
Riley had gotten a brief look at the competition on her way to the dressing room, and while she didn't recognize any of them, there was a life to them she hadn't seen last time, and it made her eager to see how they'd do as competitors. For now, though, she had to finish getting ready. Her own dress was pretty good, but which accessories to put on Char and Giselle for the appeals? Hmmm...
Freya was backstage getting ready, and she was not doing well at all. Her plans had fallen apart a tiny bit with her Clamperl evolving a few days before. Of course, Gorebyss was a beautiful and amazing pokemon, but it just meant that Freya had to alter her plans a tiny bit. Everything else would be fine though. So, as she fiddled with the gloves on her hands, she sent out Gorebyss and Bounsweet to her side. It seemed like the two of them were nervous for their performance as well. So, Freya knelt down to the two of them and hugged them hard. She then whispered into their ears, "You guys are going to do amazing, I know you will. We have been training for this for a while now. Just remember what I said. Our job here isn't to win, its to show the world how beautiful it can be. That's all I really want from y'all. If we do our best, then we will succeed in one way or the other. Got that."
With that, the two pokemon nodded their heads as their anxiousness melted away. Freya then went to work on the accessories that the two pokemon would be wearing. These accessories wouldn't be anything that would over shadow them. Instead, they would be accessories that highlighted their already beauty forms. For Freya, she would be wearing something that she had been working on over the past few weeks during her free time. It wasn't any sort of designer outfit like how most Coordinators would wear, but she thought that it would be a pleasant outfit to look at.

Arietta was familiar with the limelight, being an up-and-coming idol and spending a large majority of her time around reporters, fans, and the like. Perhaps she wasn't as familiar with the coordination world, having put off contests for a while up until now. She wasn't strong in battling tactics, and as such had been trying to work on that with her pokemon, and it had been putting her off up until Elise had convinced her to just go for it- there was no harm in failing, and it could even further her and the girls reach as a group!
So perhaps that's now why she found herself reapplying her fake eyelashes, squinting at the mirror as she bit her tongue to stop herself from fidgiting. The whole point of this contest was beauty, Arietta knew, and while she wasn't notorious for being the main image girl of the idol group she just hoped what she had planned would still do the theme proud.
From besides her Adagio, Fi and Aumia seemed to be getting hyped, chittering excitedly amungst themselves. Arietta trusted herself battling the most with Aumia, that and she'd gone over dance countless times with her, if there was a pokemon she would trust with being able to face the battle rounds it was her closet mouse. Datrix and Fi were new to the whole showbiz thing, but Arietta had hope that both their clash of type moves and their compatibility together through dance would shine through and make the appeal rounds something to stand out.
After the lash glue was dry the girl had checked one more on her outfit, a flowy yellow number that stopped just below the knee, with a fluffy petticoat under it to give it a bounce, with soft off the shoulder sleeves that added a slight bit more elegance to the look. And of course, she had a silver 'PNG' necklace hanging loosley around her neck, she had to represent the girls somehow after all!
She'd adored all three of her pokemon with yellow slows, even Aumia just to make the mouse feel special. Crouching down to their level she moved to gently pat at the mouse, who coo'd under her touch whilst looking towards the other two. "It's alright if you slip-up a little, I just want you guys to be able to express yourselves and show what you're capable of~" She moved in now to gently run her hand down one of Daggie's feathers before moving to boop the Litwick, who let out a grumble in response. "I'm already proud of you both, even if we haven't gone out there yet! We gotta do our warm up stretches, yeah? Like we practiced."
She was ready, and more than excited. Who knew what the contest held?!

Sage smoothed her dress again, for the hundredth time, as she waited for the contest to begin. She could see all the other contestants, beautiful in their makeup and stage outfits, and couldnt help feeling... plain. She was wearing a liiitle makeup, some lip gloss, subtle eyeshadow, eyeliner and faint blush, but nothing like the bright and gaudy or professional makeup like some of the others. She reminded herself this was her first contest, so even if she didnt get the whole big showbiz thing, she could learn it; So she took a deep breath and set the thoughts aside, just like she had practiced her first few times performing music. It wasnt the same, and she could feel butterflies in her stomach from the knowledge that the crowd would be much much larger than anything she had ever dealt with, but it was going to be okay.
Solo huffed from his place laying near her feet. He had not been particularly excited at her attempts to dress him up. He had allowed a simple bowtie, but it kept going askew, with a humming chuckle, Sage reached down to put it right. In contrast Piper and Aria looked adorable. Sage had managed to procure a sort of tutu for Piper, as well as a cute little bow around her ears, while morpeko had a vibrant flower crown. Their costumes weren't elaborate, but for now, it would be enough.
She knew Staccato was dissapointed he wouldnt be able to participate, but she hoped he would forgive her. He was so close to evolving, and having a wider range of moves, so he would be perfect for her next contest.
"Alright guys, we're goin in, you ready?" All three piped up affirmatively, though Solo still looked a bit miffed he hadnt been chosen for the fighting round. Sage grinned and murmured encouragingly at them as she returned them to their pokeballs. Waiting for the call to the stage.
“Welcome everyone to the Birch City contest hall!” A cheery voice rang out as a young blonde-haired woman skipped out on stage and turned to face everyone. “We have some lovely coordinators out today to show their skills!” her hand raised up to point to the sky. “Let’s give them a round of applause in advance!” Sure enough, the audience clapped for a short bit. “We’ll start with the appeals contest where our coordinators will show us what combinations they can come up with! And then we’ll move on to the battle round! Now without further aidue, let’s welcome our first contestant!”
Riley took a final deep breath back stage, then put on a smile as she was introduced and walked out onto the stage. She wore a long golden sparkling dress with a haltered top split open down the middle and a slit up one side to show off her leg. Similarly gold heels could be seen through the slit as she walked, a sway in her step. Her long red hair was down and swept over to one side as well as curled a bit, and on the back of her part she wore a gold and pearl and diamond floral hair accessory to compliment her dress. Earrings in a similar style dangled subtly from her ears.
She sauntered out onto the stage with a monkey on either side. Her Panpour, Giselle, wore a small but flowy red dress, while her Pansear, Char, wore a little blue vest with a blue bow tie. Riley spun about, her skirt flaring out, and the monkeys jumped around her. As she stopped facing the audience once more, she announced, "Hello, my lovelies! I'm Riley Connor, and I'll be opening for you this evening! Char, Giselle, let's show them what we've got~"
Char started off with a Heat Wave, twirling across the stage from left to right and leaving a trail of fire in his wake. An inherently beautiful move, but it was what they did with it next that counted. So Giselle made her own way across stage from right to left, shooting a Water Gun into the air and allowing it to come down like rain to slowly put out the fire and create a wall of steam. Riley and the monkeys then danced through the steam a little, causing it to swirl about before it slowly dissipated.

Riley smiled; that seemed to go over well! She knew it wasn't required to perform at all herself, but as long as the spotlight remained on her Pokemon, she was allowed to accent them a little, and would do what she could.
Next, Char used another Heat Wave, this time blowing a line of fire into the air. It was risky to use the same move twice in a row, but with combinations one could get away with it, especially if it was executed very differently. So this time, Giselle followed up by unleashing a Play Nice. Normally a cuter move, but she used it to create musical notes made of light in the air and had them dance about in front of the flames, creating quite the light show, to an ultimately beautiful effect. Riley swayed back and forth under the effects, waving her hand upward toward the next batch of notes each time Giselle made a few more, as if directing where they would be or just gesturing for the audience to watch there.
Finally, they let the lights go out, and it was time for the final combination. Riley spun about center stage as the monkeys took either side. Char created a column of fire, and Giselle a column of water, each on either side of Riley. The columns began to swirl about as if they might fall over, but in a graceful manner, before finally leaning toward each other and colliding above Riley's head. There was a blinding burst, and when it cleared Riley stood posing with both monkeys below the massive glittering rainbow created by the combined Fire and Water Pledge.
She smiled brighter, then curtsied as the audience applauded. The monkeys followed up with their own bow and curtsy, then followed Riley off stage to make way for the next contestant.
Watching the performer before her go and do a dazzling performance made Freya feel a bit uneasy. She couldn't believe that someone could pull off something that was as amazing as that. Freya watched every single move meticulously, observing how she and her pokemon performed everything in an almost simultaneous motion. Each one after the other. They were all in perfect harmony. As she looked down at Bounsweet and Gorebyss, she smiled at them. They were looking at the performance in exactly the same manner. This was it. This was the thing that Freya had been building them up for, and they were astonished by it. Looking at them now, she gained motivation from them to be the absolute best they could be. They weren't there to win. No, they were there to show everyone that there was beauty in everything. Even useless moves like splash could turn out to be something amazing.
So, as Freya was introduced onto the field, she smiled up at the audience. She didn't wear a lot of makeup like most performers would. Instead, she had more of a natural look on her to bring out her already beautiful face. She wasn't meant to be glammed up. Instead, she was meant to look approachable and pleasant. Her hair was in a beautiful waterfall braid that allowed her white strands of hair to fall down beautifully. This hair style was accompanied by flowers sprinkling through the back of her hair to form a beautiful meadow of white marigolds. The mass amount of white that was being show from her hair made her seem almost fairy like in nature. She had a wistful chiffon dress on that had two straps. It went down to right above her knees. Around the center of the dress was a layer of chiffon fabric, that was almost like a belt as it wrapped around her to form a tiny bow around her waste. In the center of it was a marigold. Her shoes weren't anything spectacular. Instead, they were white sandals.
Her pokemon had the same Marigolds on them as well. The bounsweet had a marigold on the side of it's stem, while the gorebyss had it on the right side of it's head, sort of where it would be if it had ears. As the pokemon looked out towards the crowd, they smiled with bright blushes on their cheeks. With this, they're performance would begin. So, Freya said aloud to the public with a bright smile, saying to them, "Hi everyone! I'm Freya Callum, and these are my pokemon Bounsweet and Gorebyss. We hope we can show you how beautiful this world can be if we work together!" With that, the two pokemon went to do what they were trained to do. Bounsweet had begun to run at Gorebyss as it jumped up onto it's head. While it did this, the pokemon used a move that people probably wouldn't expect, splash. As it glowed a bright blue, it bounced off of the Gorebyss's head and into the air. While Bounsweet was doing this, the Gorebyss had used draining kiss on the pokemon. With the Bounsweet in the air, it's blue started to fade as an orb of pink light traveled down to Gorebyss, causing her to glow a bright pink. With this combination move, the beauty was in the lights. Having in transfer from Bounsweet and onto Gorebyss is what made this truly spectacular.
gE3fhueRp_
Before Bounsweet fell from the air, the Gorebyss had immediately used water gun above it, and onto the Bounsweet. Knowing the routine perfectly, the Bounsweet then used rapid spin while in the air, allowing it to deflect all the damage from the water gun, and allowing it to stay up in the air. With the increased intensity of the watergun, it started to created a stream of water that sprialed around Bounsweet and into the air. This created the effect of a water tornado as it started to rain down upon the ground. The sun was perfect in this moment as the water from the stream and rain gleamed with the sun's light.
p_
This was it, the final move. Freya was squeezing her fists, trying not to explode from nervousness. She trusted her pokemon though, so she let go of the tension in her hand and watched as the two performed the final part of their round. While the Bounsweet was spinning, it had begun to use razor leaf. As it did, it spiraled out into the stream of water that was surrounding. Stray leaves had begun to part from it as they fell down to the ground, glimmering just like how the rain and stream were. Then, with the final move, Bounsweet used splash as the Gorebyss lightened up the intensity of the water gun, breaking it apart into tinier water particles that rained down upon the field. As it did, Freya ran out into the center of the field as Bounsweet bounced off of Gorebyss and into Freya's arms. While holding Bounsweet in one hand, she reached out her other hand for a wave to the audience. As the rain rained down upon her, the dews from it stayed onto her hair and clothing, making her seem like a true fairy as she smiled and waved out. In this moment, she was truly happy about everything that had happened. She hoped that the judges liked their performance, but even if they didn't, Freya was still proud of everything her pokemon did. Even as she walked off the field and back to the backstage corridors.

The brunette was bouncing on the balls of her feet on the sidelines, third wasn't a bad place to go! If she was first, she was sure that she would have been utterly nervous, but after witnessing what the other two were capable of and their beautiful performances she was eager to show off what her own pokemon were able to do! Feanor sat atop her shoulder, with Adagio perched by her side, the duo fired up from their warm-up stretches with their routines more than memorised by now- this was going to be something good- hopefully.
Her outfit was now fully intact, and she was hoping that the slight glitter would be noticeable under the light. Her flowy, off the shoulder number was something that her team had help create, bouncy, easy to move in, and hopefully visually appealing. Around the skirts of the dress a light-yellow cape-piece had been sown in, which stretched around and puffed out at the front of the dress, while Arietta had made some last minute disicions to safety pin the front of her dress to the front of the petticoat so it stayed in place easier- or at least... that's what she hoped.
The over the shoulder sleeve decal was supposed to mimic wings, fairly similar in style to the leaves on Adagio's chest. She had on basic platforms that should be easy enough to dance in, and further had her silver chain PNG necklace around her neck- she had to promote the band somehow! Her hair was simply in a curly high ponytail fit with a small yellow bow around the base, however she had used glitter spray towards the ends of her hair so it shimmered a little under the lighting. Aumia, Adagio and Fi each had their own accesories, Adagio and Aumia with bows either gently stuck to their chest or wrapped around the tail, which Fi just had a little bit of golden glitter applied to his wax- hopefully, the trio would be a force to be reckoned with! Of course, Aumia wouldn't be on until later, but she was sure the Dedenne would be okay!
She wasn't the best with moves, and probably would struggle, with this being her first official contest, but she was excited, and just wanted to have fun and show her pokemon a great time! As her name was called Arietta gestured Adagio to enter first, the Deduceye leading the way by soaring around the arena once before settling in the center, while Arietta entered with the Litwick on her shoulder who stared out in the crowd with a shocked expression. As she finally made it to her place the girl brought a hand up, waving at the crowd with a well-practiced grin. "Aren't you guys just glowing?!" A large grin adorned her features as she clapped her hands together, "Arietta Ostinato here, and don't get bored just yet, since this contest is just getting started!" Hands clasped infront of her chest, she moved to gesture to her three mons, "These are Adagio and Fi, and I hope you all enjoy!"
Arietta took a step back then, if only she was allowed her music in this contest... but she'd have to make do with what she had! She moved the Litwick to her palm and held him up for all to see, before gesturing to Adagio to begin! The pokemon coo'd gently back at Aumia before bringing his wings in towards his chest, leaning his head back and then outstretching his wings outwards, sending out a bright, green sparkling synthesis into the air, the pokemon lept up into the air then, flying through the synthesis and causing the illumination sent through the move to waver, right as Litwick jumped up in Arietta's hand and used will-o-wisp, a sharp royal blue flame cut up through the synthesis, changing the lights colour due to the power and brightness of the attack and illuminating the field in a serene glow.
iJjEf988
As that died down Arietta moved then into a piroette, taking that as her cue to continue, spinning around thrice while holding the litwick up in her hands, said liwick eager to continue with this! Adagio dove and flew around around her, his wings working to fan the air upwards right as Litwick let out an Ember, the fire twirled around in the air, due to the trainers spinning on the floor, and then Adagio took that as his cue to release a razor leaf, his own rotating causing the leaves to shoot out in a clockwise motion just outside the radius of the twirling ember, the pressure from Adagio's flying quickly made the embers in the air catch onto the leaves, and quickly the green vegetation caught fire, sparks dancing around each other in a consistant spiral, almost tornado-like, creating the illusion of a golden helix.
Adagio brough his wings up gracefully and leapt to the floor, bringing his wings down with as much force as possible as to cut off the air flow that he'd started. The burning leaves, which had started to create a soft black smoke began flittering to the ground like molten confetti, circling the trio currently on stage- there was one last thing to do!
Grand finale! Arietta saute'd forwards before she bowed to Adagio, who was now infrot of her, and offered the Litwick with two hands. Litwick outstretched his hands and bowed to her in turn, the Litwick let out an excited squeak before hopping onto Adagio's back. With a swoop of her hand, Arietta directed the two upwards, thanking herself for being trained in ballet as she bounced from an assemble to a plie. Adagio took to the skies once more, circling the arena once before taking to the center of the stage in the area- utilising shadow sneak his cast his shadow downwards, the whole arena being cast in a dark shadow- as he'd done this he's shifted litwick down to hold him in his talons, and said pokemon shot a confuse ray downwards- the sharp, bright light breaking a single crack through the darkness.
Adagio then proceeded to outstretch his wings, the shadow being much more prominent now that the light had been shed upon the arena- and then he dove, shuffling litwick back onto his back, who, like practiced used his confuse ray to further break through the light and shoot three beams upwards, so it appeared as if Adagio was pushing the shadow away as his wings flapped, creating the image of some kind of winged being breaking free from something sinister.
Adagio soared directly towards Arietta, who had her hands outstretched upwards and a bright beam on her face, like practiced Fi was dropped directly into her hands, right as he let out on fierce confuse ray upwards with as much power as he could, completly dismissing the whole arena from the darkness- as if his contact with Arietta had caused the full light to surface. Adagio spun around the duo once before settling next to Arietta and outstretching his wing, looking fairly pleased with himself.
With everything done, Arietta brought the pokemon in her hands into the air as he waved to everybody, the litwick seemingly happy with what he had done, while Adagio bowed one more for the audience. Arietta moved the litwick to one hand before dropping into a curtsy and leading her mons offstage- now wasn't that just thrilling! She utterly adored performing for everyone- there was so much more to do though!
For now, she just had to get Aumia ready, and hope she did okay for the upcoming rounds.
I improvised a bit with the moves, since they dont have a ton of references, hope thats fine.
No Pressure, No Diamond
Sage watched as the other performers went first. She had to admit, it was nice to not go first, however she also wasnt looking forward to being towards the end either. Now that everyone had seen what the others could do, it would be hard to catch up. And she knew that her pokemon didn't have too many beautiful moves. Hopefully her combinations would be impressive as they were.
She tugged her gloves up again nervously. She was still wearing the same green dress with a ruffled white pettycoat her mother had given her. She had spiced it up with some extra jewelry, but even then, she wondered if she should start looking for something more bright and eye catching. It would be too late for this contest of course, but maybe next contest.
It was her turn now, and she looked down at her pokemon.
"You ready?" Piper looked a little uncertain, but Solo nodded firmly. Or maybe he just wanted to get this over with. With a deep breath and plastering a fake performance smile on her face, Sage stepped out onto the main stage. she was flanked by Piper in her tutu and bow on her right and Solo in his bowtie on her left.
"Hiya! I'm Sage, and my darling Piper and Solo have got quite a show for you today!" She waved at the crowd and felt almost naked without her banjo to grip. But today wasnt about her, it was about her pokemon. So she waved at them and signaled them to start.
Without hesitation, the two pokemon spun outwards, taking up opposite positions, with Sage in between them. Piper was the first to begin her move, her nose beginning to glow as she took a deep breath for Odor Sleuth. As she breathed in, the glow around her nose grew almost into an orb, which she then shot into the ground at Sage's feet. It spreads out in golden ripples like a stone which had been tossed into a still pool.
Before Piper's move had even finished, Solo began to glow as well, drawing in energy. He used Copycat to copy Odor Sleuth, and the glow of his body rushed to his nose, forming a similar glowing orb, which he then shot at the sky. It exploded and spread out in similar golden ripples, creating a unique effect as the above glow descended towards the glow from the ground.
jrawpBAI
Next, the two pokemon began to pace in a slow circle, and Sage backed up out of the center. Solo took the lead this time, glowing with a silver light as he activated Double-Edge. Piper didnt glow, but she snorted and pawed at the ground. Suddenly the two pokemon shot towards each other, as Piper used Tackle. It looked for a moment as if they would hit each other in the middle, but they slipped sideways, narrowly avoiding each other. Instead of just ending there however, they continued, looping around in a figure eight, until they were nearly head on again, narrowly slipping past each other. Solo's silver glow made him look like a bright comet, which when contrasted with Piper, gave them an almost yin-yang look as they danced past. The speed of their dash caught the last remaining glimmers of their previous moves, and lit up even brighter with the silver aura of Solo's double edge.
They both skidded to a stop on opposite sides once more, From there they executed their final moves, as Tepig spat arcs of shining Embers towards the center. They were met by Solo's Icy Wind, the cold air filled with tiny sparkling bits of ice. When they met of course, there was an explosive change in temperature and pressure, causing a steamy mist to billow out. Once again the began to circle each other, creating almost a shifting dome of ice and fire, until the mist from their moves hid them and the rest of the stage in its billowing folds.
Sage and her pokemon strode out from the mist, appearing as wraiths from within. They struck a quick pose, with Solo and Piper touching noses as Sage made a sweeping bow, thanking the audience.
She had no idea what the judges would think, but she was proud of her pokemon for their performance. They had done great.
The judges consisted of an elderly gentleman with a prim and proper air about him and a very curly mustache that probably took more work than it was worth, a softer looking woman with jet black hair cut just above her shoulders and red-lined glasses, and a fidgety looking young enby with green and blue hair who kept tapping the table with a pencil to ease their nerves. As the presentations went on, they all seemed to take notes that were then passed on to someone else.
After everyone had presented, the host was quick to skip out. “We’ll take a short break to tally everything from our judges and get back to you, folks!” she called before some peppy music started up to keep everyone busy.
Around ten minutes thereafter, a screen flickered to life. “And these are the contestants who will be proceeding! They received approvals from at least two judges! Those who didn’t will receive a small explanation as to where to improve for next time!” On screen were the list of names as well as how many judges they received passing scores from. Riley Connor received passing reports from all three judges. Arietta Ostinato received passing reports from two judges. Sage Harper received passing reports from two judges.
Freya Callum would receive a letter explaining that her moves were far too Cutesie for a Beauty contest. The suggestion was then to perhaps try for a Cute contest next time or work more on Beautiful aesthetics if she wanted to try the contest again.
“Now here are our line ups for the battle round!” The screen then flickered to see Riley faced off with Sage while Arietta seemed to be placed against someone named Rose. The first pair scheduled to go forward were Riley and Sage.
Riley was feeling pretty confident after her appeal, and even moreso after seeing the others. She was no expert, but she felt like she did well. All the same, nerves did creep up on her just a little off and on over the brief intermission, but when the scores were announced and showed that she alone had gotten unanimous approval, her excitement could not have been higher! Poor Freya kid though. Oh well.
The battle round matchups were announced then. Riley and her Cryogonal would face off against Sage and her Morpeko. Ooh, Riley wasn't the most familiar with that species. It looked like a Pika-clone, but was it pure Electric or something else, too? She guessed she'd find out!
Taking the stage for the first round, Riley looked up to the scoreboard. Both her picture and Sage's popped up, along with a small yellow wheel that represented their "points". While their was no official number of points, the ring around the circle gradually depleting in a visual representation of how the battle was going, many referred to it as 100 points, based on percentage remaining, or 360 points, calculated by degrees. The prior seemed more common in Riley's experience though.
Riley sent out Frost, and waited for Sage to send out her Morpeko. Then the referee announced, "Battle, begin!"
"Frost, start this off with an Aurora Beam!"
The Cryogonal spun around like a wheel, its icy 'mustache' tassels flowing with it, and generated a stunning but freezing beam of multi-colored light that wavered between one set of colors and the next. The beam went straight for Morpeko, and upon making contact flared out into a colorful burst around it.
Me: Signs up for Beauty Contest Also Me: Only has pokemon with very few/no beauty moves oops
No Pressure, No Diamond
Sage had just been glad to get the appeal over with, but she did enjoy watching the remaining appeals. It was a chance to learn from others how to better prepare for her own future appeals. She had thanked and encouraged both Solo and Piper for their good job, letting them know that even if they didnt get chosen to continue, they had worked hard together and had in Sage's opinion looked great.
She was thrilled when she was chosen to continue on, jumping up and saying a very enthusiastic "Yes!" as Piper bounced around her. But with the knowledge she had passed on, she congratulated both her pokemon and then returned them to her pokeballs, bringing out her Morpeko. She and Morpeko had not been traveling together as she had with some of her other pokemon, but she was stronger than the others and quite clever. "Are you ready?" She asked the Morpeko. Aria looked up at her, slightly nervous, but nooded and let out a soft chittering noise. Sage offered an arm, and Aria jumped up and scurried up to the top of her head, perching there.
Sage looked up to see the matches being displayed. Going up against a Cryogonal hmm. She actually hadnt done a ton of battling, it wasnt really her style, but she had had some practice at least. This of course was not at all like most battles. It didnt rely purely on damage, but instead on the looks and strategies, which of course impacted the wheel of points which actually decided the outcome of the battle. This was going to be interesting.
She took the stage across from the other coordinator, Riley, and stretched her arm out, letting Aria clamber down it and drop to the ground.
And now it would begin.
The other coordinator started with an Aurora Beam, and although both Sage and Aria were expecting the attack, the Morpeko wasnt quite quick enough to evade it. Well maybe she should fight fire with fire, figuratively of course.
"Aria, use Thundershock!"
Just as the glow from the Aurora Beam was fading, static sparks started building up around the Morpeko, and she shot back a stream of electricity right back at the Cryogonal.
Riley refused to look at the point counter, but judging by the crowd's reaction, her Aurora Beam had gone over fine, but Sage's Thundershock was doing better. Despite Frost's efforts, they hadn't been able to dodge, so... hm... As the Morpeko finished spewing out the last of the electric current, Riley called out, "Use this! Spin around!" At the tail end of the Thundershock, then, Frost spun like a wheel, making the sparks fly off, doing no less damage to the Cryogonal, but hopefully looking good at least.
"Keep spinning into an Icy Wind!" Frost did as they were ordered, unleashing an Icy Wind that swirled about like a sideways whirlwind. Should the move hit the Morpeko, it would be slowed down a little as well.
So I just went by in game transformation to describe Morpeko's transformation, and the move appearance as well, hope thats okay.
No Pressure, No Diamond
Sage internally cheered as Morpeko's attack hit well, and she felt pretty confident that at least they had gotten decent points for it. But this next turn would be an interesting one. The Cryogonal spun to disperse the move and continued spinning into an Icy Wind attack. While it hit Morpeko, it was only barely, and Sage raised her arm to protect her face from the wind that was blown in her direction. The cold raised goosebumps all over her upper arms and she shook herself, and it seemed even her pokemon did as well. But Sage knew it was also partially because of the change happening to her own pokemon.
The unique thing about Morpeko, was how it produced and expended electricity, and after having used Thundershock (though it happened every other move regardless of whether it was electric or not), Aria's energy had been drained. The pokemon seemed to hunch in on itself, an odd golden light coming from, which exploded outward, just as she flung her arms wide. But she was no longer yellow, but a dark noxious purple, and her eyes were a bright red. Sage knew she would have to be clever to make this beautiful, rather than scary, so even as the golden light was fading, she called out the pokemon's next move.
"Aria! Use Power Trip!" So as the golden light dissipated, it was replaced by an odd purple glow, as Morpeko stomped twice and then rushed forward at Cryogonal.
Riley squinted a bit as the attack just sort of grazed her opponent, but at least it hit, and looked good doing it. The Morpeko's attack in turn surprised and startled her a bit. What an interesting choice! Had it been executed better, it might have scored big points, but Riley suspected the Morpeko was either too inexperienced or just too Hangry to really make good use of it. All the better for her.
"Let's make this count, Frost. Night Slash!" The Cryogonal spun around again, this time generating a field of shadow that tried to compliment the shadowy attack produced by the Morpeko a moment earlier. They then stopped, tilted back, and tilted forward hard, their long tassely mustache flinging forward to absorb the shadows and slash across the Morpeko with it. Not the most effective move in a battle sense, and probably a little more cool than beautiful at its core, but that didn't mean it couldn't be beautiful too! And Riley hoped the contrast between the light reflecting off the icy Pokemon and the areas absorbed by shadows would help play up a wonderful appearance.
They were coming down to the wire, now. This next attack would decide it all.
So uhhh apparently my cat managed to sit on the computer and post and I.... didnt realize until nearly a day later
No Pressure, No Diamond
Sage grinned as Morpeko executed the attack well. Of course, even though her attack had gone well, there was still the question of whether it had looked the part. But she didnt have time to think about that, as her opponent's move came next, in the form of a Night Slash. Sage winced as it hit fairly spot on. But now it was their turn.
Time was running out, so she had to make it good. But first, as before, Aria underwent her switch. It was interesting that the other had attacked with a dark energy, because it seemed that as the opponents attack dissipated, it was replaced with a glowing aura as Morpeko changed once again from a dark type to an electric type. Sage decided that the best way to take advantage of that was to attack as soon as she could, so she called out the next attack.
"Alright Aria, let's finish it out with a Quick Attack."
The Morpeko dashed forward, blurring from the speed, leaving a trail of white and golden light which included the remnants of her transformation aura.
The judges whispered among each other and were making notes that quickly and accurately reflected the points counter. The audience was about as good a gauge, though, right then.
The crowd cheered a little as the Aurora Beam was released. The lights were rather beautiful! The returning Thunder Shock had some aesthetic to it as well, though! But it was the spinning wheel of electricity followed by an spiraling Icy Wind that really drew some applause and attention! O-oh? The Morpeko’s transformation and the returning attack was rather scary, actually, and the crowd hummed a little awkwardly at that— but then cheered as it was followed up well by the returning attack from the Cryogonal! The last attack was underwhelming as the buzzer went off signaling the end of the battle.
The one with the largest section of the wheel still in tact was Riley! They would be moving on to the next round.
Following up was Arietta’s round with Rose. As the other trainer stepped out onto the stage, she’d release a Numel! The small camel, despite looking a little derpy, was assuredly very cute.

Arietta was stoked she'd made it to the next round, and had spent most of her time backstage preparing Aumia- this was her big moment! Where the mon got to strut her stuff, and hopefully convince the crowd that she was as gorgeous as Arietta found her. No matter what happened, though, Arietta'd be proud of her darling mouse mon. Adjusting her hair, and further the little boe around Aumia's tail- ahhh she was just going to dazzle the crowd! And it seemed she was paired up with somebody named... Rose- with a Numel! Uhm... type advantages, type advantages... Aumia wasn't weak to fire! So she wouldn't have to stress too much, maybe... hopefully!
She found herself being ushered back to the stage by staff, waiting in the sidelines as Riley and Sage finished their battles, marvelling on how flourished their movesets were- she was in an actual arena, doing an actual contest. She was hyped on adrenaline alone, filled with energy. If there's anybody she could trust to attempt to wow the judges, to blow them away, it was Mi-Mi. Aumia, who rested on her shoulder, tail swishing side to side let out an excited squeak, she was just as pumped as Ari! And was ready to make the crowd fall in love!
An applause rang out as Riley was delared victorious, and then she was counted in right before making her way onto the stage. Arietta was all smiles, outstretching her arms to the crowd and twirling once as if to show off her dress, and further the mon on her shoulder. She had to be confident, even if she knew she wasn't that good at battling the best she could do was try, and hope the hours of teaching Aumia dance and gracefulness would pull through.
Aumia quickly scurried off of Arietta, leaping off and taking her place infront of the girl while she got herself situated on the stage, opposite the opposing coordinator- Rose, was it? Her Numel really was adorable- but now it was time to focus! A voice boomed around the arena, announcing the begging on their round and Arietta brought her hands to her hips, grinning, let's do this!
"Mi-Mi!" She was quick in her direction, and Aumia's tail flicked, listening, waiting for her first set of instructions- this was her first contest battle, and she didn't wanna let Arietta down now! "Start it off strong- swirl into a parabolic charge!"
And Aumia leapt into action, bouncing off her feet and taking a few steps closer, toes pointed before bring her form into a spin, her tail swinging around her once before she was engulfed in a bright yellow glow, sparks dancing off her cheeks before launching forward in delicate streams of light, bouncing off the mon and charging directly towards the Numel infront of her, the charges of electricity seemingly following her form before she came to a stop.
The crowd gave a deep ‘oooo’ as the electricity broke out so brightly. As the Electric attack hit the Numel, however, something strange would happen. Rather than cry out, rather than take damage, the partial Ground Type rolled it off with a soft cry of assurance. Rose grinned toothily. “Numel! Ember!” The Numel hesitated before opening his maw and releasing a slew of embers. They were surprisingly small but incredibly bright compared to the usual embers: condensed but shining! Like stars! The crowd gave an ‘ooooo’ back.
Accuracy: n8d2|7VXp_ (>10, Hit) Beauty: p_ Ember is a beautiful move.

Alright! That was a strong start! At the audiences reaction Arietta grinned, of course she couldn't lock eyes with her darling Aumia right now but she was super proud of her! Of course, it didn't hit super well but it was the aesthetics that counted, how it looked and if it was beautiful! Numel, her opponents pokemon bounced back with an Ember, Arietta had to admit fire type moves were oddly pretty but she knew Aumia's moved, if directed properly could look great! Aumia let out a soft squeak as she was spumerged in the twinkling flames, trying her best to hold herself steady...
"Hang in there, Mi-Mi!" Was what Arietta called out! The little squeaker turned back to her, taking a step or two back and wiggling her tail a little. Arietta was right! She could do this! "Stun them with an Eerie Impluse!" A soft cry is what followed, as small sparks danced off of Aumia's cheeks. Large, electric circles pulsed from her body, surrounding the small pokemon like a halo, bathing the mouse type in a yellow light before shimmering and pushing outwards towards her opponant. Sparks danced off each ring, popping in the air and dissolving into soft sparkls as they shimmered into nothingness, fizzling out as they hit the opponents Numel.
