Marley probably didn't need to kick open the door to the gym, but the Galarian teen was always one to try and make an entrance. And he was quite fired up. He was sure he would win this time. He had put together a rather good team, and he had taken the time to work out how to get through this.
"Hiro!" he yelled out boisterously, "Come on out ya ponce! It's time fer round two!" It was clear Marley was more excited than trying to insult the gym leader. A big grin was stretched across his face as he looked around the large pool. He remembered how Hiro had said he didn't need to go through the pool this time. This time, it was straight to the action!
Splash. That was the sound Marley would hear immediately on kicking the door open, and what he would find was a young girl scrambling to grip to one side of the pre-gym challenge pool. It took but a moment before she had pulled herself back up out of the water and immediately started to crush dribbles of water from her soft pink dress. “You don’t have to yell…” she huffed at him. “Dad has audio and visual recorded…”
Marley paused and blinked when he noticed the girl scrambling out of the pool. Had he walked in on someone else's challenge? "Oh, sorry about that," Marley said, before her words hit him. "Wait, he's got a daughter? And he's makin' you go through that pool challenge too? Or are you challengin' him as well?"
The girl huffed a little and shook her head. “No, I was just seeing how dirty the pool was from our last challenger….” She squinted a moment assessing. She was about to say something when the far wall opened up and her attention turned to the pink haired man that was her father who stepped out.
“Hey Marley wasn’t it?” Hrio asked with a grin. “Back for more?”
The girl looked from Hiro to Marley and back again and just…. waited.
“Oh, hah yeah. Miyuna, Marley challenged a bit ago. Marley this is my fishstick, Miyuna…” he made a small hand gesture from one to the other. Miyuna rolled her eyes but extended a hand to Marley shaking it only once before resuming her stance. “Anyways, yeah let’s get ya back and challenging alright?”
Marley gave a small chuckle. "Oh? Last one left a bit of a mess eh?" At that point, the wall opened up, revealing the man Marley had been looking for. At his question whether Marley was back for a challenge, the Galarian trainer laughed, "Ya bet yer arse I am!" He looked over at the little girl Hiro introduced as Miyuna. "nice to meet ya."
Now then, with introductions out of the way, it was time to get to the battle. Marley cracked his knuckles in anticipation as he headed to the back towards the battleground.
The battle pool was the same as it had been: mostly water and some islands here and there. Walking to the other end and standing ready, Hiro grinned. “Go ahead and show me whatcha got,” he grinned waiting to see what Marley’d release this time— actually wait. “And… uh… tell me what kinda battle we’ll be having.” He laughed a little at that. Perhaps some of Marley’s fire had rubbed off.
Miyuna rolled her eyes and went to stand back in the bleachers off to one side just to watch for now.
The battlefield was the same, but what Marley had in mind was completely different, compared to how he was last time. "This time, let's go for somethin' a little different. A tag team match!" He pulled out four pokeballs, showing them off to Hiro. "Four pokemon, last man standin' wins."
He put two of them back into his coat. "And, without further ado, let's get started. Come on out Maggie! Come on out Melony!"
In a flash of light, the familiar form of Marley's Mismagius appeared, hovering over the water. Next to her, the large form of a lapras landed in the water with a splash, letting out a cheerful sound.
Two on two, and a total of four? “Sounds great,” Hiro grinned fishing out two Pokeballs to start. A toss into the air and a flash released a Chinchou and an Alomomola. Both gave a cry for battle with Chinchou sinking a little more into the water and Alomomla raising up some. “As always, I give you the first moves,” Hiro grinned setting a hand on his hip.
"Alright, let's get this started!" Marley crowed, ready to go as he looked over the pokemon before him. Chinchou was definitely the one to worry about. Being part electric, it had a distinct advantage over Melony. Best to get it out of the way and fast. "Melony, why don't you sing that Chincou a lullaby? Maggie, put its lights out with a Magical Leaf!" Melony nodded, starting to sing a sweet melody that echoed around the arena. At the same time, Maggie began to glow, before firing a volley of magically infused leaves at the Chinchou.
Melony zH9swbp1 Sing, 55% hit rate to put Chinchou to sleep. +4 to hit
Maggie
Magical Leaf, 100% hit to Chinchou, +1 SpA, Moderate, Super Effective (4 damage)
Hiro only smirked as the attacks were directed at the Chinchou. Heh, well then. “Alomomola, Wide Guard!” he called. A barrier raised up, shielding both the Chinchou and the Alomomola then from the oncoming attacks. “Don’t be too quick to attack just one,” Hiro grinned. “Chinchou, Scald Mismagius,” he ordered. The Chinchou waited for the barrier to drop before spewing scalding liquid in the hatted mage’s direction.
Chinchou used Scald (2HP) 100-10 = 90 Acc. <10 to hit. 4A2fRWs9p_ Hits! Requires <75 to burn p_ No burn!
Marley blinked as both of his attacks were cancelled out by that damn floating fish, before the Chinchou blasted Maggie with that damn Scald move. Well...so much for that. And Marley had a clear idea where this was going to go. He remembered how the last time he went through this went.
"Nope, not goin' through this bullshit again."
Before the pokemon even realized what was happening, Marley recalled his two pokemon, and walked out.
