It had taken a lot of work, but it had all been worth it in the end. Scarlett, after much influnce from her darling fiance Chinami, was making the final leap in her journey to become a nurse. Beanie fit snug to her blonde locks, scarf wrapped tightly around her neck and hand held tightly by the woman of her dreams, Scarett was making the final stretch to the lab. Chinami had convinced her that a mon would help her through so much- and then go so obsessed with the idea even chipped in so Scarlett would get the usual two instead of one. And she was damn proud of herself for it.
"I'm sure you'll bond with two adorable mons, Scarlett. You'll have more choice- more range." Chinami held a gentle smile, squeezing Scarletts hand slightly as they ventured down one of the many stone pathways of Birch. Scarlett though, was uncertain, and raised a brow at her dark-haired fiance. "But it's never certain!? What if I get like, a scraggly mutt-" "No pokemon is a mutt, babe. You're just scared- we don't take things out on pokemon or people, yeah?" She was interupted before she even got to finish, Chinami squeezing her hand tight enough to cause Scarlett to wince, "We talked about this." a cheeky grin settled on Chi's face in victory. "Fine- fine! I'm only doin' this because it'll help me anyway..."
Chinami rolled her eyes, letting go of her fiance's hand to instead wrap it around her waist, drawing the blonde in closer and causing her to look up towards her. Chinami leaned to press a kiss to the girls forehead, and Scarlett rolled her eyes, leaning up slightly to instead press a kiss to her girlfriends lips. There was a giggle, a melody that caused Scarlett to smile and ease up, breaking away from her girlfriend to instead snuggle against her side. "...And... erm... to help us."
The girls continued speaking as they neared the lab, simply holding each other until they came up closer to the door. Scarlett, after a touch of hesitation eventually wrangled out of the girls arms to push open the door- it was now or never, really. Chinami followed after, and after sensing Scarlett's hesitation called out, "Professor? Are you in? It's Chinami- I emailed you about my fiance and our situation?"
There was a brief pause where Scarlett let her gaze wonder the facility, before tucking her hands into her pockets and fighting a scowl- for lack of a better expression to settle her features into. "And...I'm the fiance." It was mumbled out.
(ooc: spent gems for 2 standard starter rolls instead of one)
Holly had been organizing a bookshelf at the back when a voice hit her ears. A soft hum escaped from her as she checked the time, reread her day planner and crossed out a name, and then came forth from the back with two Pokeball cases in her arms. “Ah, yes, welcome,” she stated adjusting her glasses and then looking from Chinami to Scarlett. “I have brought out two sets of Pokemon. You may choose one from each,” she explained the rules before setting down a Pokeball case and opening the other. Grabbing all three Pokeballs within, she tossed them and let the Pokemon speak for themselves.
Chinami smiled and bowed her head gratefully as Professor Holly make her appearance, while Scarlett stood awkwardly by her partners side, the whole experience being something so foreign. She knew Chi'd gone through something similar back in her home region, so.. maybe it wouldn't be too bad? Urgh. She better get this over quick, she had a shift later tonight and snapping at patients on the job because she failed to get her afternoon nap wasn't something she wanted.
As the balls were revealed Scarlett rocked back a little in anticipation, Chinami moved to place a hand on Scarlett's back slightly, steadying her as if to remind her of her presence- she was here. In a beam of light all three mons were released, and Scarlett brought her lips together- right, uh... guess it was time? "Oh aren't they adorable?!" Chinami's voice rang out first, and she looked to Scarlett to assess her reaction- had she done she right thing? "...eh"
It seemed at first Scarlett didn't exactly know what she was takin' in. It was a bunch of pokemon just kinda infront of her.... An eyebrow quirked, but Chinami gently pushed her forward towards the options, the Yanma buzzing right up to the blonde curiously, softly chittering. Scarlett squinted at him, mumbling, "...Isn't he kinda noisy?" Which resulted in the pokemon buzzing around her once before flying back a few paces dejectedly. Chinami let out a soft sigh, sparing her fiance a glance before rushing after the Yanma, as if to apologize for her partners behaviour. That at least caused Scarlett to chuckle slightly- damn she was cute.
Oh yeah, right the pokemon. The Yanma was too noisy, so with it hovering she probably wouldn't be able to study or get work done- and... she'd probably snap at the poor guy without really realizing. So that left the berry thing, that seemed to be staring at her in an attempt to comprehend her actions and... uh- where was the other one? Scarett blinked, glancing around for a moment before noticing a cowering... tiny monkey hiding behind a cabinet.
...Was it something she said? Er- uh... Right she'll get to that in a sec. Scarlett decided to move a little closer to the Cherubi, and confused as to what to do in this situation offered the Cherbui a hand, which was glanced at before the Cherubi huffed. "...Babe. None of them like me..." Scarlett sounded kind of rejected, pushing herelf back up into a standing position and glancing over to Chi, who'd managed to coax the Yanma back towards where Scarlett was. Chinami just rolled her eyes, "They were picked for you, Lettie. And that Cherubi is suuuper cute..." Chinami began approaching the berry pokemon, cooing at it and illicinting some form of a squeak back- how?? How did she manage that???
Chinami never fails to amaze her, and Scarlett found herself smiling adoringly at Chinami for a few seconds before realizing that she... still had to pick- uh- right yeah she hadn't looked at the monkey- where was it? She spun slowly, eyes scanning the lab... until she realized the Monkey was... actually behind her?! Scarlett blinked once, twice, then mumbled. "...I think this ones afraid of me, honestly?"
Arceus, she wasn't ever gonna be able to pick if they all hated her. Whatever, Scarlett let out a long, drawn out sigh, they'd spent money on this so she just had to deal. The girl bent down and attempting to bring a hand towards the Mankey, much like what she did with the berry mon. "...did anybody tell you you're kinda small?"
The Mankey only stared back at her, something akin to a whimper leaving her and- oh damn it now Scarlett felt bad! "Nah nah nah- it's a good thing. Right?" She outstretched her hand, as if to show the Mankey, "See? My fingers are small but I might be able to save lives with em one day." The Mankey tenitively grasped at one of her fingers, staring intently at it before looking back up at Scarlett- oh my mew was it crying?! She was kinda shaking too, uh- uhm?
"Shit- uh- wait fuck I shouldn't swear infront of them..." Not knowing what else to do Scarlett attempted to hoist the Mankey into her arms, like one would do a baby, into a rather awkward sorta hug. Chinami was watching the interaction with a raised brow, almost surprised. "I think she likes you, Scarlett." The girl moved closer now, sending her best smile to the professor for being so patient.
The Mankey seemed to bury its tiny face into Scarlett's chest- it was terrified but... Scarlett was warm, and she had tiny fingers. Scarlett was bouncing the Mankey now, like a nurse would do a baby before mumbling out, "...I think I like her too- is it cool if I pick this monkey for my first pick?"

Holly pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose and said nothing as she waited the pair interact with the Pokemon. The new trainer was… something, but Holly kept her thoughts to herself. Everyone had to start somewhere— even if somewhere in this one’s case seemed a personal pit to climb out of. Though perhaps I was too quick to judge this time… The girl and the Mankey did seem to be making a good fit. She nodded once as the Mankey was selected. “Very good,” she stated before returning the other two. Setting them back in their Pokeball cases, she shifted to the other Pokeball case and opened it taking out the three Pokeballs and tossing them open again.
The Mankey for the most part had seemed to settle in Scarlett's arms, a little less worked up than she had been before. Scarlett watched the creature for a moment, far from a mangey mutt, the tiny thing was... actually kinda cute, if she squinted at it from an angle. She eventually stopped bouncing it and looked up, only to find Chinami smiling warmly at her. Scarlett let out a 'tsk', averting her gaze from her fiances. "...What are you looking at, Chi?"
Chinami laughed softly, shrugging her shoulders back a little. "Just my pretty future wife- being all cute." and that is what caused a stupid blush to peak across Scarlett's cheeks- future wife?! She'd barely wrapped her head around the fiance bit and- infront of people?! Chinami still held her gentle expression and Scarlett just kinda averted her gaze mumbling a, "O-Oh shut up..."
Her gaze was drawn back to the professor as the next lot of pokemon were revealed, eyes scanning them as she continued to bounce the Mankey a little- oh- hey she recognized some of these from popular media stuff. That... dog was a Riolu, and then there was a beetle-mon and... a Bulbasaur? Chinami's eyes were instantly drawn to the grass type, the woman having a weakness to anything remotely resembling a flower and she let out an audible 'aww' which had Scarlett snickering slightly. Before she could go to check them out however Chinami made her way over and gently attempted to lift the Mankey out of the girls arms so she'd have more space to look...
Unfortunately for Chinami, the minute she attempted to lift the Mankey it began whimpering and sniffling, not wanting to be out of Scarlett's warm arms. Almost immediately the mon was returned and Chinami gave Scarlett a tight smile, "...Uhm- sorry she doesn't seem to wanna move- you'll have to work around her...". Well... wasn't that just great? The little monkey pokemon was clinging to Scarlett's scarf now, shaking slightly and the girl sighed- well... she could deal with this. The small mon was light anyway.
Shifting so she was more comfortable in her arms Scarlett ventured forward, towards the awaiting mons. The Bulbasaur seemed to be watching her, a curious tilt to it's head and a coo leaving him, while the Riolu looked.. fairly upset, a glare on his features... was... he gonna try start a fight? And the Heracross... she was tiny?? Not as small as her new Mankey but... she'd never really been fond of bugs- blame it on a house roach being thrown into her red solo cup at a party.
Her eyes flicked to the Bulbasaur, who seemed to be smiling at her, as if she already knew her decision. It looked sweet enough, he had bright eyes and the kinda aesthetic Chi's all for, and she... really didn't wanna fight a mon or have to deal with spunk right now. One step, two step... Scarlett bent down, shifting the Manket a little higher towards her shoulder so she could attempt a smile at the Bulbasaur.
"...You'll do." The Bulbasaur cooed at her, a vine reaching out and brushing against her leg- uh?? Scarlett's eyes warily flicked back to Chinami who just chuckled, "He's just showing he likes you!" With... vines? Scarlett blinked, and moved the Mankey, who'd moved her head slightly to peer down at the bulb pokemon with a sniffle- who was he?! He was kinda scary.
She moved to pat the Bulbasaur, gently running a heand down his head and smiling awkwardly as the mon revelled in her affections, closing his eyes a little and leaning into her touch- aw hey, that was kinda cute too. "...Yeah. I like him." Eyes flicked to the professor,"...That's, uh...all, yeah?"
Holly waited fairly patiently as the girl selected from the next trio. Once the Bulbasaur was selected, she returned the other two and took both the Mankey’s Pokeball and the Bubasaur’s into one hand. She’d hold them forward briefly before walking over to get a box. “I have prepared supplies for your journey as well. Use them wisely,” she stated handing over the supplies. “You should consider naming both of them.” A pause. “Do you have any other questions or would you like to begin your journey?” Some trainers were always itching to go.
The Bulbasaur seemed to toddle up to Scarletts side as she returned her attention to the professor, while the Mankey clung a little too tightly to her scarf... but right now Scarlett wouldn't complain- despite all her comments about the pokemon she was actually a little excited for all of this. Chinami helped Scalett with the journey items, tucking them away in a bag for later useage. "...Thanks..." Scarlett wouldn't say anything, if she did have questions she wouldn't say them- too stubborn. She was about to turn and leave when Chinami grabbed her by the sleeve, careful of the Mankey in her arms. "Lettie, didn't you have questions you were asking me before we showed up here?"
Eyebrow raised, she smiled at her fiance who fidgited a little, "...well....yeah..." Chinami just stared at her, the corner of her lip quirking up further. "Ask the lady, nurses gotta get used to asking questions, right?" Damn it- why couldn't Chinami be wrong for once? Scarlett clicked her tongue and shifting the Manket, eyes flicking back to the professor. "...Are...uh... these specially bred? Should there be any special needs that need tended to, apart from their usual diets?" She brought her gaze to the Bulbasaur, "I assume the tiny one just gets fed less, but... it doesn't hurt to know- that and medical conditions- and stuff." She was almost... bashful?
"I don't wanna fuck up."

An eyebrow raised followed by a hand as Holly adjusted her glasses. “Yes, these Pokemon were specifically bred to become trainer companions,” she answered. “There should not be any medical complications that would warrant concern.” These were for children as young as ten after all. The most they needed to deal with was getting in synch with their partners. “I think you should work with Bulbasaur to decide how much it eats, though.” She commented. Pokemon were sentient creatures and deserved to have their say in things even if trainers had the final say. “Anything else?”

...yeah that makes sense. Specially bred and stuff. So she wouldn't have to do too much worrying. Chinami moved closer then, still smiling. "Isn't that great, babe?" Scarlett though shifted a little, glancing between the Mankey clinging to her scarf for a moment and the Bulbasaur by her feet. "...I... have one more question." She said, after a beat of silence, using her free hand to ever so gently run it through the pokemons fur. "Are you familiar with any local programs that might help... the..." A pause, what was it's breed again, uh... "...Mankey? I'm a nursing student so these pokemon will be helping me out- an it wouldn't be... right to throw her into all of that without helping her get used to the stress of a hospital on her own terms first." Straight to the point, if anybody knew about pokemon programs it would be a professor, right?
Normally when trainers asked about how to deal with their Pokemon, Holly responded simply with “forge your own path through hard work and determination”, but in this particular case she made a different decision. Walking over to a desk, she pulled up a postit-note and wrote a name and phone number on it before walking back and handing it over. “This is a psychologist here in Birch who may able to help,” she answered.

Oh! Actually, a psychologist wasn't a bad idea. Scarlett glanced down to the tiny Manket once more, bouncing her every so slightly in an attempt to get her to now tug on her scarf so tight before pocketing the note she was given. "...yeah...i'll give it a look then." An awkward, almost forced smile graced her features. This environment was quickly becoming uncomfortable, and Scarlett didn't know what to do. She had many other questions that she couldn't find voice to, perhaps in fear they might make her sound harsh. Chinami, noting her silence smiled then, sweet and kind and moved to pick up the Bulbasaur in her own arms, giggling as he wiggled a little. "Thank you so much, professor! Have a lovely day!"
She seemed to be cueing Scarlett to leave, causing the girl to frown slightly but... she wasn't getting anywehre. There was no use staying. Whatever. A mumbled, "...sorry, bye." Left her lips, and she folowed after Chinami and out the door- where Scarlett's new life was about to begin.
