If the blonde was being honest with herself, she was terrified. She hadn't expected to be put straight into the job after a few months into her official course. She knew like... the basics, plus what she'd had to research up herself. She still couldn't listen to people ramble without rolling her eyes in annoyance, and her study on pokemon anatomy was rocky at best- but still, experience at a pokecentre was better than nothing, and there'd be trained nurses hopefully there to guide her.
Before she'd left for her long travel to Birch she'd been smothered in supportive hugs and kisses from Chinami, much to her embarrassment, and the girl had urged her to text as soon as everything was done to let her know how it went. Thank arceus Chinami hadn't walked her all the way to the pokecentre, she'd probably be so worried that she'd refuse to leave Scarlett's side or linger in the waitroom- she knew how Scarlett got, especially when her patience was thinned. Thankfully, she'd been allowed to bring one pokemon with her- and after being convinced not to bring Delilah by her fiance due to the pokemons abnormal reaction to other humans, she'd decided to bring Asher, who strotted along next to her in stride, letting out soft cries every once and awhile as he passed by something he saw that caught his attention-
A puddle in the ground? He could see himself! A smiling little girl? A wave of his vines! He was eager to come along with Scarlett, especially to a place he'd never been before. She knew if anything he'd at least know how to snap her out of being a shitty excuse for a person- a little flick of his vines and she'll be right... probably.
Asher had spent a solid minute admiring himself in the automatic doors of the pokecentre, running alongside them as they opened and closed to allow patrons in and out, which only made them open and close more in response- and Scarlett was already getting a little antsy, "Oi- Asher." Her gaze narrowed at the Bulbasaur, who peeked up at her curiously. Scarlett just pushed at her fringe, great- his cuteness was already getting the better of her. Her gaze softened slightly and she just let out a harsh breath of air, snapping her eyes forward. "...Eyes up, it's time to work."
There were obviously a few other students who'd been assigned the centre today, excitedly chatting in groups all sporting similar uniforms, looking the part of the peppy and helpful nurse- while Scarlett had her arms crossing a little too tightly across her chest... ugh. She'd have to work with them- or at least alongside one of them. She wasn't sure... exactly the specifics, if she was being honest- but when her presence was made known she was herded off to get changed into some number that made her look far too girly- sure she... looked the part of a nurse but couldn't she get to style it a little? At least she got to still wear her ring... Amythyst, gorgeous- she'd take it off when neccesary, slip it into the front pocket- but she didn't really have the heart to take it off- and hadn't since she'd gotten it.
Well... here goes nothing. She'd rushed back out as some nurse had begun talking, Asher rocking back and forth excitedly by her side, eyes flicking around and taking in all the wonderful sights, a vine even tightening around her ankle and untightening like an excited child squeezing a mothers hand. There was excited giggling, happy chatter, and Scarlett instead wore a frown... some of them didn't seem to be taking this seriously at all- people were given areas to watch over or cycle through, and suddenly Scarlett found herself being ushered towards the front of the center to take on general cases- right- fuck okay that shouldn't be too hard.
Wasn't she... supposed to have like a partner for this? Asher was bouncing by her side now, rubbing his forehead against her leg in reassurance as her gaze clipped around the room, only to settle on a white haired nurse. Scarlett's head tilted slightly and a brow raised. "Let me guess, you're stationed here too?"
She stared at them for a few seconds, eyes flicking to her own badge before glancing back up at them. Perhaps her expression could mimick that of being fed up, but she... didn't exactly now what to say to this person rright now, what do you say to a nurse you're paired with?! They don't teach you this in class. "Let's get this over with." A pause, oh- yeah shit right. "Right...You can call me Scarlett, and this is Asher. We'll be in your care or whatever you're supposed to say." Or... was it? She didn't know. Being fresh blood sucks.

Sid’s shift had started long before the trainees were called in to begin their rotations. They’d been working at the Pokemon Center for a while now, and although going in between Birch and Fuji Town was a bit of a hassle, they actually preferred working here in Birch to the centers in Fuji. It seemed… just a little more happy and lively, something they attributed to the abundance of new trainers coming out the lab doors per day.
Either way, there they were already working an hour and already aware they had eleven more hours to go. Following alongside them that day, almost a shadow in the grand scheme of things, was Nurse their Audino who felt more at home here than anywhere else.
“Sid, would you mind helping partnering with one of the students?” Another nurse had caught them by the arm and asked. “We have an uneven number today, and I don’t want any of them to be by themselves.”
…Ah… “Sure,” Sid mumbled softly shrugging their shoulders. After a quick thanks and a few instructions on who and where, they were left to head that direction again. Coming into a front clinic room, they found one sole nursing student already there. The questioning look on her face and verbal confusion thereafter earned a small hum and a nod. “I work here full time, actually,” they answered softly.
She didn’t seem all that excited or friendly. How can you already be jaded…. “Nice to meet you Scarlett and Asher. My name is Sidney, Sid is preferred. They/Them, please.” Normally they wouldn’t bother with pronouns, but considering they knew they were going to be working with this one for a while, they decided it was best to. "And this is Nurse, He/Him…. Usually.” They side-eyed the Audino who was standing next to them now and sizing up these new nurses with a questionable look.
“If you have any questions, just ask. I’m here to help you learn as much as you are here to assist the center and its patients.” Sid spoke softly.

Yikes! It seems there's an emergency coming in. There appears to be quite the commotion outside, is that a Toxapex? Oh dear, looks like it's after...a tiny shiny Sandslash?? Yikes, looks like this Toxapex might have some vision problems. Better hurry before things get out of hand!
...She was paired with a full time nurse. Yikes, okay- at least she could like, take mental notes, but that meant they were way more experienced and probably would take over s lot of it, meaning she might not get much time to be hands on and learn from experience rather visually watching- like she did back in her classes. The nurse who introduced themselves and their mon seemed decent enough. Didn't talk down to her, and offered up some pronouns- though the... usually for the Audino had her quirking a brow... uh.. okay. A head was bowed with a murmur of "Kay...Nice to meet you, then, Sid." before her head was raised.
Ohhh this meant she'd have to watch herself more too- any slip ups, or if she snapped, Sid would be able to tell their supervisors and she wouldn't be allowed back at the pokecentre for her next placement or experience day- fuuuuck. At their next words Scarlett nodded once more, arms crossing. "...okay. I've only learned through textbook primarily so bare with me." It was better to communicate then to shut up, but... she should probably give a warning or something, that's what Chinami would wanted. "I'm shit- er- bad with people, just a heads up."
And hopefully that was able to clear any misunderstandings ahead of time and keep somebody on her side if she did fuck up- thank Chinami for teaching her shit like this. Her arms uncrossed and she peered down at her ring, eyes narrowing slightly before she was drawn from her thoughts by the sounds of... an altercation- oh. Oh a Toxapex. Uhh... okay- locate the threat if there are any, that's the first stage... Eyes sweeped as she took a few steps forward, quickly bringing her gaze over to a Sandslash, tiny in size awaiting to be seen, which the Toxapex seemed to have in its sights. "...Unusual..."
"Toxapex's main diet is... Corsola, right? But it's looking at the Sandslash as if it's prey." Oh! Oh- oh... maybe, maybe it has some sort of issue? Scarlett brought her lips together, while Asher had gently tapped her with a vine- if she thought about type advantages if the Toxpex does need to be restrained, she could always use Bulbasaur but that's... only if it's extremely high risk. "...Risk factors- risk factors..." like a student would, instead of going straight to action Scarlett was very in her head about the scenario, being more cautious than anything.
If it was going for the Sandslash then. "...We're looking at either... a visual incapacity, or... or a mental one- temporary since it still obviously can see and is uh- reacting to stuff... so- we either- uh..." Eyes flicked to Sid, unsure, "Depending on the level of risk, we aim to calm down the Toxapex using... auditory stimulas, assuming it's only vision impaired- or if it's at a more dangerous level and could be of a high risk we- uh- stop it- or something."
What exactly should she do- er. "...I can get Asher to defend the Sandslash incase harm does come its way, uh... is the best plan of action then- you attempting to tame or lower the danger level and get the Toxapex to the examination room?" She was moving as she spoke, all but ready to go protect the Sandslash while taking notes on the more experienced nurse and how they interact with the Toxapex.

Ah. Scarlet was very new then. Sid mentally sighed but gave a small nod. “Good to know.” The second part… earned a physical sigh. “Ok.” That wasn’t great, but everyone had to start somewhere. Their eyes raised and scanned over the various persons already in the clinic. So busy today… they registered. At least the clinic had help.
The noise immediately selected the patients, though. The Toxapex crawling after the Sandslash was going to be a problem if they didn’t handle it quickly. “Nurse….” Sid started only to find themselves suddenly distracted by Scarlett’s words. “….In the wild only,” they answered. “They sustain just fine on Pokefood.” So then why was this one even going after another Pokemon to begin with? They didn’t have time to stand around like this student did, though.
“Nurse, start with Misty Terrain to eliminate any chance of status conditions,” they ordered. Toxapex were deadly with venom, but that would keep them all from being poisoned for now. The Audino seemed to glow pink with power before releasing the Fairy type energy into the space. Only after that did Sid walk forward and block the Toxapex from coming any closer to the Sandslash. “Return your Pokemon,” was their order to the Toxapex’s trainer. “Now.”

Scarlett Bell & Sidney Ridley Working together in tandem, and with Sidney's quick thinking in using Nurse, the situation seems to calm down. The Trainer returns Toxapex to its Pokeball, and the Sandslash lets out a breath of relief, though it still cowers slightly. It looks like the little Pokemon's taken a few hits from the Toxapex, and looks warily toward the pair - while its Trainer explains it had only wanted to heal it, before the Toxapex reacted.
The Toxapex's trainer seems jittery, and mentions, that it was poisoned by another Pokemon, and he hadn't yet been able to heal it - and was hoping to now; of course, then the fight broke out.
Apparently Sid didn't talk much, which made it hard to figure out if they hated her already and wanted to keep conversation to a minimal, if they were annoyed by clueless nurses or if they were just entirely focused on their job. They were quick to correct her, especially about the Toxapex and her lips quickly formed a pout, yeah well it was a theory that couldn't be ruled out! Before Asher could even begin towards the Sandslash Sid had Nurse use misty terrain, and then further told the trainer to return their pokemon- ahhhh... so, that was allowed- shit why didn't she think of that?
As the trainer explained the Toxapex was poisoned a brown was raised, that meant they were stupid enough not to bring an antidote with them- oh. Oh yeah- she wasn't supposed to... think like that. Whatever. The Toxapex was in it's ball, while the Sandslash was still out and now had minor wounds, so that meant the priority was... uhm...
Poison versus minor wounds, poison could be knocked out if the Toxapex took the antidote, of course that could be risky and dangerous, and the Sandslash was still able to sit there and at least look around... ""The... Toxapex is priority, yeah...?" She sent an awkward glance towards Sid, entirely unsure. "Poison can take an antidote to heal, but we'll also have to look over them for other injuries, while it appears the Sandslash's are... minor..."
If they did choose to do the Toxapex then they'd have to be able to keep them from lashing out when in the room... Asher had only two moves... but, uh, he had vines?! Right- that counted for something?? "What sort of equipment are in the examination rooms? If we do the Toxapex we'll need some way to restrain them incase they lash out, or a way to minimize harm- does Nurse have anything?"

A slow breath escaped from Sid as the Toxapex’s trainer returned their Pokemon. Good, that was good. “Thank you,” they spoke a little softer after the fact. Nurse muttered something under his breath and decided to leave the Misty Terrain to fade on its own. He’d already used enough energy summoning it.
It was only after this that Sid registered the other nurse again. “Apologies for cutting you off, I just didn’t want this to escalate any more than it had already,” they explained. “Pokemon fighting in the clinic is very dangerous.” As if that wasn’t probably obvious to everyone by then.
As the Toxapex’s trainer explained why it had been brought in, however, Sid frowned. Normally Poison type Pokemon couldn’t be poisoned. “Were you battling a Salandit or Salazzle?” they asked.
“How did you know?” the trainer asked back.
“The Corrosion ability is the only one I know of that allows Poison type Pokemon to be poisoned,” they answered back briefly. As the other nurse made a needs assessment, Sid hummed and looked from the trainer with the Toxapex’s ball in hand and the other trainer with the Sandslash still out. “Hm, well, minor injuries wouldn’t have normally brought someone into the clinic… what did you come in for?” they asked the Sandslash’s trainer.
The Sandslash’s trainer hesitated a little. “Well, he seems to be really slow lately in battle, and I just… just wanted to make sure that he was ok.” Sid gave a nod at that. If that was all there was immediately, it did mean triaging the Toxapex first was the better option.
“Let’s start with Toxapex then,” Sid inadvertently agreed with Scarlett. As the series of questions came after, they hummed a little. “… Nurse isn’t exactly a restraining type,” they answered. “Misty Terrain will keep us from being poisoned, but we may need to do this our selves.” They made a small hand gesture for Scarlett and the trainer to follow them back as they turned and headed towards an exam room. Nurse immediately followed at their heels.
Luckily, things seem pretty smooth sailing from that moment on. The Sandshlash's trainer cedes to sit off to the side holding his Pokemon in his arms, the shiny creature's little claws tapping nervously. Toxapek's trainer is relieved to be treated first, and mentions that the fight with the Salandit had been rather devastating, especially since he wasn't prepared to cure poison of all things.
In the exam room, the trainer releases the Pokemon, and it seems subdued, or perhaps, too tired to start more of a fight. It's drooling, and rather sluggish, but with wary, uncertain eyes - likely afraid.

Scarlett felt abnormally awkward and way out of her comfort zone around Sid- they knew what was going on- she almost felt shadowed by their presence and how they knew everything, how to deal with every given situation- this wasn't like something out of a textbook, this was just... work. And Scarlett didn't know how to deal with that. The corner of her lip was bitten as he spoke to her, a mumbled, "yep I get it..." left her. Yeah, them fighting in the clinic is bad, mmhm, but she'd never been in that sitch before, what did he expect her to do? She shadowed Sid with her arms crossed, the bulbasaur by her feet curiously taking in his surroundings all the while- she'd hardly realized as Sid began moving- at least not until Asher gently nudged her forward, after the other nurse, and she was rushing after their heel-
Exam room, right, okay. Gloves were quickly put on and she ensured to quickly understand where things were- this exam room was... completely unfamiliar. Where were like, things stored?! There was a sink there, tools there, but... what was in the drawers? She was momentarily distracted, flicking through stuff before turning once more towards Sid. "Asher, if needed can restrain." She added it again, as if trying to prove that yeah, she could be useful too! Hah!
Oh- yeah right not a time to try make things a competition though... that's what Chi'd tell her. And the Toxapex wasn't really lookin' too hot."...So... an antidote?" She began looking through a cupboard to the side, jirachi she hoped they had the feedables, she wouldn't be able to cope if they had to like... inject stuff right now. Yellow- yello- oh! She pulled one out and showed it to Sid, "This, then we look it over for more injuries? Is that the best course of action?"This whole time, Scarlett hadn't acknowledged the trainer in the room- she wasn't good with people, and she didn't wanna fuck this up. Sid could deal with them, whatever.
Post by Sidney Ridley on Feb 29, 2020 16:24:44 GMT
Coming into the exam room, Sid took in a slow breath. Alright, now that there was no immediate threat, they could actually focus on being nurses…. Which means… That Sid should probably let Scarlett take the lead now, actually. Ah yeah…. Sid still went and grabbed their gloves, though, and gingerly put them on while talking to the trainer. As Scarlett mentioned that Asher could restrain if necessary, they smiled at the Bulbasaur softly. “You wouldn’t get poisoned even if we didn’t have Misty Terrain around now would you?” they chuckled softly at the Bulbasaur before refocusing.
Scarlett’s question earned a nod. “Right,” they spoke softly watching as she grabbed the necessary antidote. “The spray’ll work fine in this case. Did they teach you how to handle it already?” Pokemon absorbed things so much better than humans did, heh. They would assist her if needed, though. At the follow up question a small nod was given again. Sounded like a plan.
As Scarlett took to that, though, their eyes flickered back to the trainer. “Don’t worry, she’ll get it fixed up shortly,” they assured softly. The trainer hesitated looking from Sid to Scarlett and back again. They hoped so.

Asher let out another coo at Sid's words while his trainer prepared, wiggling a vine coming from his back ever so slightly. Thankfully, Scarlett had found the right piece of equiptment! School had taught her well, at the very least- not that she had finished it, but even Scarlett could figure out the basics. As Sid asked about what she'd been taught Scarllet brought her lips together for a moment, dwelling on the question... "I mean, not practically or anything but i've been through a few tutorials on it." Antidotes were supposed to be something even a trainer could use, which meant this shouldn't be... too difficult.
Hands grasped at the Antidote as her gaze lingered on the Toxapex for a brief moment, he looked tired enough so, if she just sprayed it... She leaned forward gently and brught the spray closer to the creature, before pressing down on the nozzle which, all at once agitated the creature. A loud cry left it and Scarlett stepped back a solid foot, eyes widened- had she done something wrong? It looked to be preparing to use anther move, and Scarlett flicked her gaze to Asher, who despite his small size was quick to lash out his vines, attempting to wrap around as much as the Toxapex as possible to keep him stable. A mumble of, "uh...it's only an antidote..." left her, as she pushed a gloved hand through her hair as her gaze flicked back to Sid, uhm... uh...
She leaned forward once more to try the spray, wary of the possibility that the vines probably wouldn't hold the Toxapex too long as she leaned forward, and much gentler attempted to apply the spray again.

Sid had been so focused on reassuring the trainer then that they physically startled when the cry escaped from the Toxapex. “Are you alright?” they asked Scarlett. Thankfully it looked like she’d gotten out of the way of anything in time.
Even Nurse who had been carefully watching had startled just a little and let out a low cry back. <Hold steady!> was the order. Thankfully the Bulbasaur already had vines there and ready to help restrain the Toxapex for a moment.
Sid shifted a little from the trainer to the Toxapex. “Easy… easy friend….” they murmured carefully reaching up under the spines of the Toxapex to the tiny body underneath. “Relax…. It will be alright….” They hoped to at least keep the Toxapex calm. That along with Asher’s restraints and Scarlett’s work should be enough to get this done, yeah?
Sure enough, the Toxapex relaxed finally and then immediately seemed to fall asleep. The trainer whimpered, and Sid turned. “Don’t worry, Toxapex needed rest,” Sid assured before looking back towards Scarlett and smiling softly. “Well done….” they murmured letting their hands shift off the Toxapex again. “Let’s see….” A potion would speed up healing, and thereafter they could start on the next patient. Grabbing one from the shelf, Sid administered it slowly thereafter.
It looks like Toxapex has calmed down, so the medicine can take effect. The trainer thanks you for your help.
Mere moments later, one of the human nurses bustles in. Sounds like one of the resident Chansey slipped on some spilled potion and broke her foot! Could a pair of hands be spared to help?

A sigh was what would be released as the she was able to properly give the Toxapex treatment. Sidney was obviously a well-versed nurse, they were quick on their toes and easily able to calm down the pokemon, Scarlett wished she had the patience for that... Asher was happy he was able to help, his vines holding steady until everything was said and done, an excited squeak left him as he caught Scarlett's gaze, rushing up to her with a sparkle in his gaze as he returned to her side and the Toxapex was returned to their trainer, after the potion was administered. A glance was sent to Sid then followed by a, "I'm glad it wasn't too difficult, I dunno how I would have coped if it had been something more serious within my first few minutes on sh-"
And then a nurse came rushing in, speaking quickly about the resident Chansey and her breaking her foot- shit. Eyes widened and Scarlett wanted nothing more than to bite back her previous words, what did they do with a break again?! They... bandages, and, they usually put in a stint, right? A very quiet, almost hesitant, "...I...might need to be told what to do for this..." Left her, directed at Sid before she was on the other nurses heels, down a few corridors before they came to where the poor Chansey was.
She was already in a room and seemed to be crying softly in pain, another nurse already there seemingly looking her over, however as soon as Sid and Scarlett were led in she gave the other nurse a rushed thank you before going off- maybe to an appointment or something?? Scarlett didn't know. She didn't feel the need to change over her gloves, and only adjusted her nurse cap slightly to push more hair away from her forehead before awkwardly moving to where the Chansey was...
First to analyse and check if... it was actually broken, right? Before getting bandages? Like, confirm it and stuff? But how did she go over a Chansey foot? Her gaze moved up to lock with the tearful one of the Chansey and she attempted her best smile which... probably didn't look too comforting. "You'll be fine soon." Oh- wait they needed... x-ray for broken stuff, right? Or... She turned to the nurse who'd led them there, "Is it a confirmed break? If it's just a muscle tear or small fracture it'd be treated differently to a regular break..."
Right then, they needed to go check on the other Pokemon that had been in that fight— “Shanon—” Sid blinked on registering the younger nurse as she came in. “What’s—“ They didn’t even get to finish the statement before the answer was given. One of the resident Chansey had fallen and presumably broke her foot. “That takes precedence unfortunately…” they muttered under their breath. An injured nurse needed to be attended to before it got worse. “Come on, Nurse…” The Audino gave a small salute.
Following along to the room where the Chansey was, Sid frowned on seeing her. Poor thing. Sid bit their lip and drew over to her as the other nurse left. Bending down and looking her over, they smiled softly. “We’ll take care of you, no worries…” With that, they began slowly examining the foot. They actually didn’t see a break, but as their hand went to it, she shied away causing them to pause briefly.
The other nurse, meanwhile, looked to Scarlett and frowned. “She hasn’t let any of us close enough to be sure…” she admitted.
Mmmmmm. Sid glanced back to Scarlett on hearing the other nurse speak. They could restrain her and check, but that would probably be too difficult. They needed to move her and get her to an X-ray (or maybe just that Luxray they saw the other day). “Do we know where her Pokeball is?” they asked. If they could return her, transporting her would be a lot easier.

....Ugh, the other nurses weren't sure? All because the Chansey wouldn't let them close to her? Scarlett's gaze shifted from the nurse explaining to the Chansey, guess that meant an X-Ray if the mon was uncomfortably with people being too close, or if the pain was too much. A hand swept through her fringe, pushing it from her gaze. Right-o, then. She'd never done any proper X-Ray's, she'd heard about them but she'd probably have to take notes when Sid set everything up... did she remember her notepad? She moved to feel around for a moment, only scowling at herself remembering that she left it back at home.Mental notes it is.
Asher, from besides her let out a confused coo, large eyes staring up at the Chansey in momentary confusion. She didn't look too good, and Asher wanted to help! She could tell the Chansey wasn't too comfortable with her, so Scarlett wrecked her brain for what her classmates would say, attempting her best smile. "It's okay, you're in safe hands. We're going to check out your foot and you'll be all healed up and... stuff in no time." Maybe it sounded a little forced but that was the best Scarlett could do. Besides, casts, if the Chansey would need one, were one of her favourite things to work on. She'd had a few classes on them already, how to wrap them and that sorta thing and they were... kinda cool.
As the pokeball was handed off Scarlett attempted to approach the Chansey, grabbing the ball and once more trying to keep her smile up, "Ready?" She didn't wait for an answer and pressed the centre of the ball, hoping for the Chansey to stay in before glancing to Sid, the smile quickly pulling back from her face. "Uh- i've never done X-Ray before outside of learning about it, so i'll be following your lead."
Thank goodness they could locate the Chansey’s Pokeball. Sid let out a small sigh in relief. Good, good. That meant they wouldn’t hurt her any further just by moving her. Now then they needed— “Oh?” Sid paused in mid-thought smiling a little at Scarlett. “Sure… it’s not all that hard,” they answered making a small gesture towards the x-ray room. Nurse had already turned and started that way.
The x-ray room looked about the size of a regular room aside form the large machine in the middle. It was hanging from the ceiling and appeared to be capable of pivoting various different directions. “I can show you how it works before we let her out,” they mentioned to Scarlett before making a gesture towards the part of the room sectioned off from the rest.
Walking that way, they revealed a computer and a few chairs. “This part is where we’ll stand while she’s getting x-rayed.” They explained pausing and waiting for her to say anything before continuing, making a small gesture to another room. “This is where the x-rays actually print and develop.” Luckily they didn’t have to develop that stuff on their own now a days. They went over a few other parts of the room before turning and asking for any questions.
After that, it was time to let Chansey out and direct her to sit in the comfy enough x-ray chair.
