Set in the original region of Arciel, Legends Rising is a route-inspired, but not strictly route-based, Pokemon roleplay. Pick a faction, pick a class, and strike out into the wild to take on the League, master Contest coordination, research the mysteries of Pokemon and Arciel, and much, much more. Will you be a classic trainer? A criminal? A farmer? Choose your destiny on Legends Rising.
Three optional icebreaker questions are offered: 1. If you could hang out with any cartoon character, who would you choose and why? 2. You're given 100,000 Pen, but you have to use it or lose it within a month. What do you spend it on? 3. What would your dream house look like, and where would you build it?
Feel free to discuss any of these or use your own icebreaker!
Another one bites the dust. Derby reckoned she was gettin' the hang of this whole socialising thing, though she hadn't exactly gotta decent handshake out of people yet- she was holding out hope though! Her pops always said, a handshake is a way to the dime- or... was it to a dolla? Aye, Derby aint too sure, but somethin' sounded right there. The girl got up from her date and began the rounds again, seeking out her seat and pulling slightly at cropped tank, she felt kinda underdressed, if she was bein' honest. There was a bunch of people in frilly stuff, and she damn well saw some dressy jeans on a few others, and her ponytail was messier the more she pulled and tried to tame the strands.
But it was fine! This whole event was chill, she didn't get out of the house much, being so focused on her final, on her metalworking and her pops business, it was like a breath o' fresh air. As she wondered she finally found the seat, and a chick sittin' there. Aye, at least she wasn't bein' all fancy.
"Faolan?" Derby read the girls name off the tablecard with a quirked eyebrow, some parent had some decent namin' skills. A hand was extended for a handshake, with a lopsided smile tugging on the brunettes lips. "Nice to meetcha, call me Derby." A tight handshake was given before the girl took her seat, makin' sure she was comfortable before glancing back to the girl.
Damn, she was already stumped. How was she supposed to go about this stuff again? Her smile dropped a little as a brow was furrowed and she brought her index finger to tug at some free-hanging hair that had no buisness being so close to her eyes. Oh- right yeah. "Aint to used to this, don't mind me if i'm a lil' awkward." She read the card and nodded a little.
"How bouta question? You're given 100,000 Pen, but you have to use it or lose it within a month. What do you spend it on?" She relaxed back in the chair then, tilting her head ever so slightly and letting her elbows rest on the table as she waited for an answer- would it be somethin' cool? Maybe somethin' like self sacrificin, or that'll save the world- like metalworkin- aye, Derby, focus.
While her last date had been a little different, eventful even, Faolan didn't really have much expectations for this one. Although she'd thought this kind of thing would be good to establish contacts here in Arciel, she was starting to realize more and more that being out of the scene in Galar meant her stores of socializing with others was actually quite low. The more she was meeting and interacting on her dates, the more she felt herself quite tired. She'd probably have to take a long rest after this, even from travelling along the routes.
She was already seated at the table by the time her next date approached, and she'd been poring over the names listed on the card to try and determine just what kind of person she was expected to meet. Derby wasn't a very common name and neither was the Vulcan surname. She was curious to see what sort of person this was.
At the sound of her name she glanced up and was a little surprised to a hand outstretched to her in greeting, and a lopside smile. She didn't look anything like the sort of girls she'd encountered thus far and at first Faolan didn't know quite what to think. She returns the handshake as best she can before the brunet's sitting herself down across from the blonde, and for a moment - perhaps too long a moment - the two just kind of sit there in a weird, awkward silence. She was trying to muster up the energy to think of something, anything to say, but it's a little hard.
"That's not a problem," She reassured, propping her chin on her hand and gazing curiously at the girl in front of her. She still didn't know where Derby might have originated from, and she found herself a little intrigued. "I'm new to this also." At the question she felt a mild sense of discomfort; she has had 100,000 Pen before, but she most definitely hadn't needed a month to spend it all.
"I would probably donate it. I've gotten along just fine in Arciel without a hundred thousand pen to my name; I'm sure I'll get along without it."
Aye, seems they were both fairly awkward and unsure about this whole thing. It was cool, though, Derby could understand the weird jist of it all, bein' set up by matchmakers or whatever happened with these dudes, it's not like she was here for that whole love think anyway, but it was just a way to get out of her work and socialize a lil'. As Faolan answered the icebreaker Derby's eyebrow raised a lil- aye now that- that was a good answer.
"Would ya donate it to a specific place?" She tilted her head slightly, bringing a fist up to prop her chin onto it, "Cuz that's exactly what i'd do. I help outta bunch at local orphanages and adoption centres for work, nnn the fundin', especially after all the ultra beast attacks has basically been left to the own companies with no support from the government- though it's much better here than in Hoenn which is a huge plus." Skye came from an orphanage, so she'd heard a bunch from him about the conditions after the attacks, but at least the government here were more caring about the after affects than Hoenn, who had no place to properly help her pops without her and her fam goin' into debt.
She shrugged her shoulders a little then and grinned, "But yeah, it's all a hypothetical. There's a bunch to do in Arciel without dough- in winter all the frozen lakes can work as free rinks if ya brave enough, you can win money from pokemon battles alone and stuff."

"Hmm..." Faolan mused over this, thinking over the charities she knew of by word of mouth, but none of them seemed to fit. Derby's answer seemed to resonate with her well enough, though, and she gave a nod to the brunette's response after she was done speaking as though in agreement. "So you're from Hoenn, then? Galar seems to be doing well enough - at least the tourist season seems to be in full swing - so if I couldn't find a specific area on local shores I'd probably look overseas."
The mention of winter has her expression turning curious; although the weather had been moderately cold since she'd arrived (which was a little under two months ago, now that she thought of it) she had yet to see any frozen lakes or anything like that. The most she got was the big body of water along routes 1 and 2, but that wasn't quite the same, she didn't think. "Does it really get that cold here?" Perhaps it was a good thing that her team front-runners were both fire-types.
Derby grinned a lil' in victory, aye, Faolan had a good head on her shoulders. Orphanages and shelters really were the best place for donatin' right now. Oh, that reminded her she prolly should check with Skye to see how his mates were faring and if they needed more food than necessary, or like a fix in their building... oh right yeah, date thing. As she spoke Derby's head tilted ever so slightly, aye, from Galar? She knew her pops had looked into it but settled on Arciel in the end. "Yea, Hoenn." as she kept speaking Derby hummed, tourist season? "Yeah, that's a good idea- is Galar's government any better though? After the beasts nn stuff, I mean. What are they like carin' about their citizens and their wellbeing, any initiatives?" And then she paused, snorting softly at herself, "Aye, sorry, i'm awfully passionate about this sorta stuff."
At Faolans question Derby hitched a brow upwards ever so slightly, "Uh... ya. Depends where in Arciel you are, but i've had to help my pa with some handywork and shoddy underwater wirin' cuz stuff got frozen over- it aint like Hoenn weather, sometimes it's jus' mad here." Ah Derby, a chronic oversharer. Still she sat proud, not faltering as she spoke. Her voice trailed off as she once again found herself in a silence, and she hummed for a brief moment. "...So, ya new here then?"
Faolan took in Derby's question with an attentive ear, but she didn't really... know what else to say to that. Galar was successful in its own way, boasting impressive tourist locales and the farm and plains were all healthy and well maintained. She didn't think she'd seen anything in the way of beggars, and if people could just camp wherever they wanted then the economy wasn't all that bad, right?
"There's no need to apologize," She reassured, her expression growing thoughtful. "I don't know much about what goes on beyond my hometown, but everyone seemed happy and healthy enough despite the cold. Economy-wise, I don't think we're progressing too badly." That was the best she could do - hopefully Derby's curiosity would be sated with that, and if not there was always the internet, right? "Of course, the hot springs probably help."
The silence continued on for a little while, and Faolan found herself interested in what Derby was talking about. Underwater wiring? Just what did she do for a living? It sounded like something with technology. Before she could ask, Derby ventured a question in turn and she found herself nodding, a wry sort of smile tugging at her lips. "What gave it away?"
