Even though it was freezing cold, storming, and absolutely miserable, the ferry between Plum Island and Bass continued to go back and forth as undeterred as it ever was. Eliza appreciated its consistency almost as much as she was glad that she'd remember an umbrella this time as opposed to a few trips before. Sure the ferry had cabins below deck so those travelling on it weren't on their own against the pounding freezing rain up top, but she liked the rain, and thus liked to stand under an umbrella near the inside stairwell of the ship, looking out over the black expanse of sea and dark gray skies. It looked like it could be nighttime right now even though it was still fairly early in the morning.
"Ah...ahh...a-kyuuu!!"
Eliza glanced over her shoulder and into her hood at the sneezing sound. Mimichu the Mimikyu had her portable gaming device at the ready, but also had a bit of a sniffle from the cold weather. Eliza would offer to wipe her nose but, well, that would involve seeing under her little cloak, and Eliza valued her life. "Here," she said and adjusted her arms for a moment--she was holding her bubble-umbrella with one hand and an egg in the other--to pull out a tissue and hold it over her shoulder. A black spectral hand snatched it up, followed by a tiny snort sound. Eliza smiled slightly and took the egg back up in both arms again.
It was a surprisingly warm egg, but that might have had to do with the Pokemon inside it. A precious Ponyta that she couldn't wait to have on her team...though she would need to invest in Galarian powder to make it fit the theme of the rest of her party. She could imagine a neat photo-shoot with a Galarian Rapidash.
Man, Callie would have a field day designing an outfit around such a beautiful Pokemon with that elegant mane...the thought of it made her warmer, too, only on the inside. She loved it when her friends got to be passionate about the band.
She couldn't wait to see them in Plum. She'd been cut off while moving, but now that she was all settled in and could go about again, she could see them as much as she wanted to. And soon Jamie would come to Bass, too, and she'd have all the people she loved in one place just like the old days. It would be so fun.

The rain and ice continued to beat against her umbrella like gunfire, yet was so soothing to some extent. Eliza entertained the thought of standing in the storm for a little while, or even letting Sherbet out to see if it helped regrow his ice-head. Actually that wasn't a bad idea. Eliza glanced too and fro on the entirely empty deck before she once again juggled which hands were holding which egg or umbrella and drew out a simple plain pokeball, which she looked at for a little longer before actually opening it. Sherbet was so serious and angry most of the time. Should she really let him out for fun? There weren't any people around but herself, though, and he tolerated her existence enough not to hurt her.
Maybe--
A sharp sound poked through her train of thought. It wasn't in her head. It was a cry, audible and loud and scared, over the edge of the boat. With cautious careful steps Eliza moved from the relative safety of the stairwell to the railing.
Near the ferry--though not within arm's reach--and floating on a piece of ice too tiny for its body, was a Popplio. It was looking around frantically, making sad barks at the stormy water that was too rough for it to jump into. Eliza's lips pursed into a frown. What was a little one like that doing on the water in this weather? Had it been separated from its family? Maybe they had been trying to cross the ice and it had broken from the storm. The poor thing was quite far from her, though, and the odds of actually being able to reach it were--
<HELP ME!!>
That time she did hear their thoughts. Eliza sighed, glanced down at Sherbet's pokeball, and then tossed it up. The beam of white light shot directly into the water. A moment later, a block of ice with a face on it floated up from the sea.
<What do you--?> His thoughts started, but stopped when his eyes settled on the Popplio. Seeming to understand immediately he started swimming toward it, undeterred by the cold in any way. The Popplio saw him and yelped again.
<Wh-h-h-what? Are you going to help me??>
Sherbet growled in his icy mask. <Yes. Now hop on before you drift away!>
The Popplio didn't need to be told twice. He hopped onto the back of Sherbet's head and the pair of them pushed through the water, the little one clinging to his living life-raft as tight as his flippers could manage. When they reached the side of the ferry and were now in reach a dark spectral arm holding a wooden cane reached through the railing. The Popplio took it and was pulled up to safety. Sherbet jumped up on his own, landing besides Eliza, who was holding her umbrella over the shaking little Popplio and cooing softly to him. "There there, it's okay now. The water can't sweep you away from up here. You're safe now."
Eliza drew an empty pokeball from her pocket and held it in her free hand--the other holding her umbrella while her Ponyta egg stayed secure in the crook of her arm--towards the Popplio. "You're alone out here, aren't you. Come with me and I'll make sure you're kept safe. Sherbet is with me, too. You'll help him, won't you Sherbet?" She glanced at her Eiscue, smiling slightly. She couldn't read his face anymore now that his ice-head was back on, but she was sure it was an unpleasant expression. All the same, the block of ice nodded. He'd help.
"Just touch your nose to the button, and you'll get sucked in. Go on."

White light was sucked into the open maw of the pokeball, and where once was a Popplio there was now just open air. The ball twitched once before it clicked, signifying that the little Pokemon was contentedly caught. Eliza shrunk it down and slid it into her pocket while Sherbet watched her with the blank expression of his ice-cube head. She flashed him a funny look and adjusted the egg in her arms as she went back to the semi-shelter of the stairwell. "If you have anything to say, you should say it, instead of drilling holes in the back of my skull..."
Sherbet clicked his beak--or at least she assumed that was the noise he made--behind his mask. <You're just going to take him, huh? Even though he probably has family out there? Family that's looking for him?>
Eliza didn't even look over her shoulder. "Pokemon get caught and taken into a trainer's party regardless of who is waiting for them. It's part of life, Sherbet."
<It's disgusting. It's taking us from our homes. Humans are so greedy.>
"If you don't like it that much then you can contemplate it in your pokeball, I don't have the mental energy for this." With that said she pulled out Sherbet's ball and tossed it at his head. He returned in a beam of red light before the ball flew back into her palm. In her hood, Mimichu resumed playing her games. Eliza went back to leaning against the frame of the entry-way to the lower level of the ship, her umbrella keeping her dry even as the winds grew harsher and the rain colder.
"...do you think it's wrong, Mimi?" She finally mused when the rain became too quiet for her to smother her thoughts with. "He'll be safer with us than he would be on the water in this weather. It's not like you've ever complained about being my Pokemon. Sherbet's just a crotchety old bird. Hah. Maybe I should trade him away for something better suited to me...what do you think, Mimi?"
There was no mental response from the Mimikyu. The tell-tale sounds of her getting a "GAME OVER" screen gave her a bit of an excuse, though it made Eliza sigh. "You're right. Overthinking it. I still might trade him away sometime."
Juniper hated these kinds of seas: the restless, stormy, horrible kind. If she could have stayed on land, indoors, safe and sound, she most certainly would have. But no, there was a scientific conference in Plum, and she had to go present at it. Lord Groudon below, why was Dr. Knox hating her so much lately?
Even though she technically had Snipe her once-Horsea fully evolved now and surf trained (and a Dewgong caught right after that seemed to know how to swim with her well to begin with), Juni was not about to weather a storm with them. Not like this. Had she been on land riding Blades, she might have felt comfortable. But not here… Not now.
Huddled up down in the hull, Juni gripped into the Baltoy egg in her lap and took slow, even breaths. Every subtle shift of the ferry was enough to have her stomach lurching, and she was grateful she wasn’t on a traditional speed runner type of boat. The rocking would have been that much worse. Kyogre stop being a lil bitch…. Juni wished she could say this line out loud, but the prospects of actually taunting the fickle god of the sea was ….was not what she wanted to be doing. Gods, she wished Rayquaza would show up and banish the rains or something.
…..And then something else hit here that Juni hated. She wanted to smoke. In times of duress and deep stress, it was an alleviator. I’ve been clean for like a year Groudon— But something… anything to ease her nerves right then would be…. Would be good. A small noise escaped from Juni as she checked her front coat pocket. Sure enough like a friend she didn’t want, it was there waiting for her. Grabbing the box and a lighter, she shifted the egg back into her backpack, shouldered it, and started awkwardly up towards the deck.
Every rock of the boat was worse than the last. Especially on stairs. A particular series of Orreish swears rumbled in Juni’s throat as she made it above deck and awkwardly searched around for a place not-rainy to stand. I hate boats…. Noticing a person with an umbrella, she waved over right after. “Hi sorry- Did you borrow that from the ferry or is it yours or?”

A small sound came from the egg in Eliza's arms, and she looked down at it with a faint excited smile. She could barely hear it over the haunting songs of Lapras over the rain and waves, but it was just enough that she raised the egg to her ear to listen closer. It was twitching in her hands and hot against her skin. It had to be close to hatching any second. Ah, she should find a place out of the rain for it when that happened, or the poor little fire horse was going to get soggy and cold.
She was turning away from the entry of the stairwell to the stairs proper when a voice caught her attention away from her egg. A woman with dark red hair and an uneasy expression was asking her about her umbrella. She looked over her for a moment. Why would anyone--aside from herself, of course--want to be out in this rain? Especially one who looked so miserable. Even her thoughts were bothered. Maybe she was sea-sick from the storm.
"It's mine. There's a bit of an awning here over the stairwell that may keep you dry. But I am going down for a moment," Eliza closed her umbrella, "If you aren't going to throw it over the side of the boat, I can loan it to you until I come back."
Before she could properly offer the handle to the woman, however, a sharp crack made her practically jump. Oh. Oh crap, she needed to find a better place for this little one to hatch, but...she also knew almost nothing about Fire-types. Should she bring it into an enclosed space? What if it let out a burst of fire? She shouldn't keep it in the rain, that she was almost certain of, but...she was a nurse, not a breeder, dammit. She knew nothing about hatching baby Pokemon.
"I'm, ah--excuse me!" Eliza moved quickly down the stairs, forgetting to pass over the umbrella as she went past Juni into the hallway. The egg cracked once more after only a few steps, and she wasn't even back to the proper "bellow deck" of the ship before the entire thing burst open and she wasn't holding a neat little egg in her arms anymore. In fact the Pokemon she was holding wasn't much smaller than she was. The Ponyta in her arms actually brought her to the ground very quickly. Now on her knees and cradling the torso of the newly hatched horse on her lap, Elizabeth was breathing quickly, more rattled than she wanted to be by the suddenness of it all. It didn't help that the rather large Ponyta's mane was pressed right into her palm and was a little too hot to touch.
And he was heavy. Very heavy. And her leg muscles didn't help at all.
Mimichu peered out from around her shoulder, curious, but not super worried. She had a corpse run to do in her game, she had no time to lose to sympathy.
The taste of salt in the air was both sickening and vaguely alleviating. Juni grabbed the wall a little tighter as she stood and listened to the person (whom she’d realized was significantly younger than her) speak. Her eyes raised slightly to the awning that was indeed protecting them for now, but it seemed flimsily, and she could feel a few drops of water still hitting the top of her head now and again. The offer earned a small nod— and then Juni jumped all of two feet in the air at the lightning crackle. “Rayquaza!” she swore now clutching her chest (and the cigarettes and lighter in that hand).
And suddenly the other person was headed quickly down the stairs. Juni stared for a moment not quite processing what happened. Juni turned and stepped back into the stairwell and stopped on the first step as a light flooded the area. W-wh— She hadn’t even registered the other person had an egg with her. But the sudden existence of a Ponyta right there did it for her. Oh Groudon…. Juni was quick to stumble down the steps again and awkwardly bend down to try and help the Ponyta up and off the girl. Though she wasn’t built of muscle, Juni had some at least. Growing up on the farm had made wrangling these kinds of Pokemon just a natural part of life.
And for a brief moment, Juni forgot she was anxious and seasick. Time would tell how long that lasted, though.

Ponyta weren't really the largest Pokemon in the world, and nor were freshly born Pokemon very strong. But this baby was a big boy, bigger than a normal Ponyta, and Elizabeth wasn't having a great time maneuvering him off of her body. She could feel the skin of her palm burning very slowly, like she had it up against a pan as it sat on the burner, heat rising gradually enough that she didn't wince back instantly, but it still hurt. Before it became unbearable, though, the woman on the stairs came down and helped to push the semi-dazed infant Pokemon to his hooves. Eliza breathed out a sigh of relief and cradled her hand to her chest. Okay. The burns weren't good, but her skin wasn't beyond saving. It would just be very tender and blistered for a while. She could bandage it up no problem.
"Thank you," she spoke evenly as she pulled herself back to her feet.
The Ponyta was still dazed, still fresh and new to the world, and had hooves too big for the rest of his body. He wobbled on his knobbly legs. His flames grew and grew brighter and brighter until they reached what could only be described as a "perfectly healthy glow" for a Fire-type. Eliza looked him over and smiled.
"I think I'll name you...Seabreeze. You know, almost like the racehorse?" She spoke aloud, amused, though she kept her burnt hand hidden from his eyes when they looked her over. "And since we're on a boat, it fits very well. What do you think, Mimi?" Mimichu gently bonked the back of Eliza's head with her wooden mallet. Seabreeze tilted his head to the left and then to the right. Somehow he knew she was his...something. Something good, and trustworthy. He wasn't sure why he felt that, being so new to the world, but he just did.
Weird.
Elizabeth bent to pick up the umbrella that had fallen at her side in the chaos, and back to the woman. Only now, in the better lighting of the stairwell, did she spot the lighter and box of cigarettes in her hand. Ah. Gross. Cigarettes and smoke were very bad for one's throat, and as a singer, she simply couldn't ever condone the use of them by herself or anyone around her. Certainly not under her umbrella--it would end up smelling like smoke for who knows how long.
But the woman had been kind enough to help her, so rather than outright refusing her request, maybe steering her away from the cigarettes was the kinder option.
"I was not expecting him to hatch to quickly...but I've never hatched a Pokemon before, so I was taken by surprise. I'm glad he's healthy." Her hazel eyes landed on her bag, and what was poking out from the top. "I see you have an egg of your own. It's a good season to hatch them, isn't it? Though I think they could choose a better time than in the middle of a storm..." Elizabeth chuckled and drew out a fresh pokeball for Seabreeze. She directed it towards him and in a beam of red light he was gone from the hall. He'd probably need to rest for a little while until he was properly strong enough to battle. And be in a place not on a boat surrounded by Water-type Pokemon, that'd be a good start.
A hefty breath escaped from Juni as she managed to help the Ponyta up and subsequently the girl. She wouldn’t register any touch of heat or burn of hand, not for a while anyways. “Are you ok??” she stumbled out instead looking over Eliza awkwardly. The thanks earned a softer sigh of relief. Ok, ok at least…least she wasn’t terribly injured or broken or—
Oh that was Juni clutching the wall as the boat continued moving, and her stomach wretched a little at a gentle shift. Shaking her head a little, she watched the trainer assess her new Pokemon. It was only as a second Pokemon was acknowledged that Juni saw it— and immediately did a double take. How long had that been there? Juni closed her eyes and pinched the bridge of her nose. Long enough I guess. Man was the boat messing with her vision too— Actually sea sickness is caused by the— Thank you Dr. Sofman, she’ll recount your lectures later.
Juni’s thoughts were pulled forward again as the trainer started speaking. “Ah yeah, babies tend to come on their own time,” she answered remembering hatching a few eggs here and there over the years. At the acknowledgment of her own egg, though, Juni slowly shifted and looked at it again as it poked from the bag. “I hope it’ll wait until we get to Plum before hatching…” Juni squinted somewhat at it and then gripped the handrail a little tighter again. “Granted Baltoy shouldn’t be as big as that Ponyta….” She paused and looked back up at the girl again. “You could almost ride him just as a Ponyta…” Juni immediately shook her head. Probably still better as a Rapidash for farm work though…
The hand that had the cigarette and lighter tightened a little, but Juni didn’t put them away just yet.

"I'll be alright. The burns hurt but I've treated worse." Eliza considered if she had enough medical supplies on her at this moment to try to tend to her hand, or if she had left them in her suitcase--which was with the rest of the heavier cargo on the ship. She could at least run it under some cold water. Which way was the closest sink? Hah, then again she could just hold it out into the open air for a few minutes and the sleet would do the trick. She glanced up the stairs for a second. Although the whole ship was still moving back and forth, the heavy pelting of from above seemed to be lessening. It wasn't gone, not at all, but the hard sleet was melting into simple drops of rain. Hopefully it would fade before they landed.
A Baltoy? An interesting Pokemon, and not one she really remembered existed without being reminded. Still, they were a Psychic-type, weren't they? So then when they were Claydol instead... "When it's fully evolved, will you try to have it master telepathy?" She spoke of it so casually she might as well have been talking about the rain above. "I've been considering using Galarian powder to give my own Rapidash the ability, but I also like the look of Kantonian Rapidash. I suppose it would be best to wait and decide what suits them best as they grow."
Mimichu felt eyes on herself. The head of her costume peered out from in Eliza's hood, looking like it were staring back at Juni--however her actual eyes didn't leave the screen of her device. Eliza paid her no mind. She did, however, smile in a sly sort of way. "I agree. Even at their size they're still too young for heavier lifting. Do you live on a farm, Ms? Or at least work on one?"
She’d treated worse? Juni winced not entirely sure she wanted to know the context. That thought would be pushed away as quickly as it had come. The question that followed had her glancing down at the egg thoughtfully again.
Juni had had similar conversations regarding each Beldum she’d obtained. When it evolved, would she want to find a way to have it speak? On paper it sounded fantastic. She could only imagine the clarity that a conversation through the mind could have! But the prospects of finding a teacher were daunting and the end of it was…. she’d just never had time to consider it. She was always working. Maybe she regretted that a little. “Maybe…” was the answer. "If I get some time to and...figure out where to actually train for that."
What followed, however, had a curious look coming to Juni’s features. “Are you a Psychic Type trainer?” she asked. It seemed at least that the girl (whose name she didn’t know whoops??) had a fair amount of knowledge of them. At the return question of sorts, Juni smiled a little. “I grew up on a farm and have a bit of land now, but I work and live out in Ivy Town, actually… Dr. Juni Savage… nice to meet you….?”

Eliza's smile remained sly as Juni looked her over. She hadn't responded quite how Eliza had expected--most people when you respond to their thoughts had a much more startled reaction--but in a way this was interesting, too. She must be at least somewhat aware of psychic powers then. Was she one herself? Maybe. But then she would have probably know somebody who could teach her Claydol how to "speak". Unless she was untrained, which...well...Eliza could empathize.
"Not strictly. I actually prefer ghosts and fairies," she made a vague gesture with her shoulder, nudging Mimichu without disrupting her too much, lest she face the wrath of an angry phantom. "But you're onto something there." Her smile flickered for a second as introductions were made. A doctor? Really? Of what sort? If this was somehow one of her father's friends, then hoo boy...but more than that, the woman was from Ivy Town. Eliza had only been up that way once.
It had not been for pleasant reasons.
But that was neither here nor there.
"Elizabeth Joan, LNA. I grew up in Cherry Town and Bass City myself, hence my curiosity." That and a little bit of mind-reading, but whatever. "It's nice to meet you. What's your field of research, if you don't mind my asking?"
Ghosts and Faeries, both Pokemon Types were known for their stranger-than-average powers with regards to Pokemon. Juni gave a small nod and found herself eyeballing the Mimikyu again. That thing felt…. Dangerous, yeah.
As Eliza gave her name and designation, though, Juni found her interest piqued. A nurse? Really? Huh. Juni would never have guessed, but then again when pressed as to what she would have thought this person’s designation was, she would have had no answer anyways.
The rest was skipped over, however, as her favorite topic was brought up so casually. “I study thermodynamics and the heat-related changes within the tectonic plates,” she answered perking up entirely too much for someone who was still feeling as bad as she was from the ferry rocking. “I specialize in modeling seismic events including volcanic ones such as the active Grumble Volcano.” Land… was so much better than the rocky ocean, for so many, many reasons.
Before Juni had a chance to say more, however, something shifted behind her— and caused her to jolt and sputter on contact. From her bag, a little light had started to shine, and as though the Baltoy within had wanted to spurn even the smallest of its new trainer’s requests (this one to stay put long enough to get to Plum), it started to hatch. Juni scrambled awkwardly setting the bag down on the steps (and feeling worse for it). “I wish you’d wait till we got on land….” Juni grumbled awkwardly.

Oh, good, she wasn't that kind of doctor. It was occasionally misleading when a person called themselves "doctor" casually--without context, they could have a doctorate in just about everything, but people usually assume medicine. Eliza had. She was pleasantly incorrect. She didn't really care about geography or geology or geothermal things, but it was keeping Doctor Savage from going for her cigarettes for another minute, and that was what the point of this talk was.
Really, wasn't this better for her in the long run? Not only were cigarettes gross smelling and harmful to the throat, but they could cause so much more damage. Eliza opened her mouth to start asking about the volcano when she heard it.
A tiny little thought, too small for her to make out, from Juni's bag.
Newly budding psychic power.
How sweet.
Seconds later the woman began to fumble with said bag, opening it to reveal a light coming from inside it. Eliza's lips curled into a faint smirk and she stepped closer to peek into it at the now hatching Baltoy egg. How funny. "Maybe it's the storm that's making them hatch so suddenly. I don't think I'd be able to sleep with all this noise and motion..." She hummed in amusement. "Or maybe this one is just a little Mary, quite contrary."
Juni bit her lower lip. This was such a bad time to be hatching, little guy— girl— uh…. Baltoy. “Just have to catch it quickly….” she murmured to herself. She knew rain wouldn’t necessarily hurt the Baltoy in the way a Water attack might have, but she also didn’t want to just expose a baby to the elements like this either.
As the egg shimmered and changed shapes it actually became smaller than it once was… condensing down into a tiny spherical toy. The Baltoy that finally broke from the light was absolutely tiny! Even though their species was small by nature, this one was half that! Juni blinked. “Oh…. Huh….” It was… so tiny… so small…. So baby.
The Baltoy ‘blinked’ back. <Ma…ma?> The Baltoy’s first coherent thought would be this. It was pretty sure that was what it was looking at. Slowly looking passed to the other person there, it stared and then tilted its head to the side. <Da….da??>
Juni was fumbling quickly now trying to find an empty Pokeball on her person. Oh damn it why did she not have one ready. Maybe because she didn’t think this was actually going to be happening right here and now! The Baltoy slowly levitated up to Eliza, though, and stared at her with a curious gaze. It had ‘seen’ Juni while in the egg, but this was… a new face…..

The shape of the egg began to morph into that of a Baltoy, and Eliza's brow perked up ever so slightly at the same time Juni, too, took note of its size. Were they supposed to be that small? He was hardly the size of Mimichu, but Mimikyu were normally pretty small to start with. Was it just because he was a baby? No, because Seabreeze had been quite large. Ah genetics. They could be so weird. Shame she was a medical doctor and not really into Pokemon breeding. "At least you don't have to worry about him being too large for you to carry around," Eliza let her words carry over the faint thoughts peeking into her head.
She spared a glance downward, sighed, and looked back at the Baltoy with a bit less humor in her face. Yes she was not the most feminine woman, but "dada"? Seriously? Why couldn't she have been graced with dance training and a chest.
Some girls got all the luck. Right Ara and Elise?
Hell, even Callie is curvier than me. What kind of fair is that.
But now was not the time for self-critique. Eliza knelt down besides Juni and her very little baby while she fumbled for a pokeball. It in turn levitated over to her, and she held up her hands underneath it just in case its tiny body dropped. "Hello there. I'm not dada or mama. But she is certainly mama," she smiled a little warmer, though she closed her eyes to hide that it didn't quite reach them, "So you should stay with her. When you've grown up a little I can teach you to talk to her like this, if you want. For now, you should get some rest."
"He's a very friendly one," Eliza said aloud this time, rather than in her head-voice to the Baltoy alone. She opened her eyes to look at Juni once more. "I don't think his size is anything beyond him just being naturally small. Just from a once-over he looks very healthy." Carefully she tried move the Baltoy back to it's trainer with her palms, without knocking him out of the air. "Got a name for it?"
The thought of this teeny tiny Baltoy becoming an equally teeny tiny Claydol would have been a funnier image to imagine had Juni been able to focus on it. Instead, she was shuttering, shifting around and searching for an empty Pokeball with which to secure this small thing.
The Baltoy stared at Eliza with a confused expression. It could hear her thoughts? But her mouth wasn’t moving? Ah! She was like it, wasn’t she! Its head turned back towards Juni as she was acknowledged, and it just so happened that was when she finally found a Pokeball. “Here!” The Baltoy looked back at Eliza briefly and gave a small nod at her. Someday… it could speak like they were speaking, whatever that meant. <Mama....>
Juni breathed a sigh of relief as she shifted and gently tapped the Baltoy with the Pokeball. In a red light, it disappeared, and just as quickly, it dinged in capture. Good, it would be safer in there than out and about in this storm.
Her eyes shifted back to Eliza again, and a small smile came to Juni’s features. “Not quite yet,” she answered the question and then looked down at the Pokeball in her hand. “It takes me a while to really find names that fit them.” Granted she had impulsively named Pyre when he had hatched, but that was for very specific reasons.
…And then a name hit her, and some color came to her features. She’d… she’d think on that one, maybe, and see what it thought too.
Goodness, she was suddenly tired. She couldn’t imagine how anyone hatched multiple eggs at once. She couldn’t imagine how breeders hatched multiple at once. Juni shook her head tyring to perk up a bit again. O-oh huh. Carefully, she folded the cigarette and her lighter back into her pocket now that she realized she was holding it again. For now, at least, she was more tired than nauseous. Not quite a great steady state but better than it had been.

Baltoy returned to his trainer--or “mama”, which was cute but a little weird at the same time--and Eliza stood back up to her full height, stretching her arms over her head until she heard a pleasant crack in her shoulders. It was followed not too suddenly afterwards by a clap of thunder from the deck above. Eliza gave the stairwell a sideways glance before returning her attention to Juni, who, although she may have managed to conceal the thought in itself, gave away that she had some manner of a name in mind by her faint flush alone. Eliza said nothing further. She only smirked slightly.
“I feel like all of my names are uncreative or jokes. Maybe I should wait to name Pokemon, too. What do you think, Mimi?” She mused, and earned a small thunk to the back of her skull in response.
The cigarettes and lighter put away, and thus the troubles averted, Elizabeth debated whether or not she should continue this conversation with this woman or return to the upper deck now that her Ponyta had hatched. Would the woman ask to use her umbrella again? Or maybe she was too tired now to want to walk around the hazardous, slippery surface of the boat.
“D-”
Before the word formed in her mouth Eliza’s phone suddenly started to vibrate with a catchy tune accompanying. A custom song-bite she’d saved from a while back. Even just the few notes were so familiar that she had pulled out her phone and opened it and knew who had sent the message before she even read the sender’s name. Arietta? Her and Elise should have made it to the hotel by now, right? Hopefully it was just a little “We’re here! See you soon!” and not something like their rooms being double booked or something inane. Or something worse. For the last week or so Elizabeth’s nerves spiked every time she got a text or call from Ari. That sort of thing happens after you see a video of your friend nearly being decapitated by a Pokemon online.
Elizabeth didn’t feel the need to apologize for interrupting her little “conversation”--if one might call it that--with Juni to read the message sent to her. Oh, wow. That was a wall of text and emotes. What...
@everyone guys im in my own personal movie but its not like a cute romcom 💖😏💖 it's actually like one of those tearjerker dramas 😱 or maybe its an action because i got choked out by a charmeleon 💀🤭- sPOILERS- anyway- so, lemme tell you the plot... 💁♀️
...in Arceus’ name...
Elizabeth took a small step backwards and leaned against the wall, forgetting, for a moment, that her Mimikyu was in her coat’s hood and did not like getting squished very much. But her eyes were wide and distant. What. What? What was all of this?? Some of this she knew but not well, and not with context. She knew about Arietta getting attacked. She had tried to get an answer about it, even enlisting Jamie’s far-more-friendly aid, but Ari had dodged the matter with him and her alike. She had not been so shy about it on her blog post but even then it was so little information.
That said, Arietta only stated there that it was an “ex’s Pokemon”--and as much as she loved the girl, Arietta had a list of exes a mile and a half long at this point, so that was decidedly not helpful. But now she had a pretty definitive answer.
Among a bunch of other answers to questions she’d never asked.
Have I been so busy moving that I didn’t see any of this?
Did she ever say anything about this to me? To any of us...?
About Koray? About Shea? About that bastard--
"--what did you think would happen, going alone to Ivy Town? Why do you do this to yourself?! Stupid stupid stupid, what a stupid fucking--"
Eliza’s head throbbed and she raised a hand to hold her temple, the irises of her eyes flashing a pale blue color. The words, her words, seeped through the air like a voice shouting, angry but hurt and all sorts of bad, dangerous feelings. Aurgh, not now. Calm down. Breathe. She had to get herself under control.
Mimichu’s head--well, body--turned to look at her trainer, having heard the thoughts spiraling in her head. Oh. This was going to go poorly.
