The glazed over look in Elise's eyes had Chinami feeling guilty, and perhaps a tad confused. Was it the bouquet?! She chose the best flowers she could find, even double-checked the stock and there were none with as perfect a meaning as the ones she'd got for the girl... though it's not like Chinami, nor Scarlett knew how to deal with breakups or the after-effects of them. Chinami pushed her glasses up a little, an uncomfortable note in her voice as she took a wary step back. "Maybe I should have just gotten sunflowers... uh... sorry?"
Scarlett let out a soft sigh, her grip on Chinami loose yet wary, this was a literal train wreck. She wasn't... sure how to comfort Elise who looked like she was probably about to erupt into another wave of sobs before her, and could only nod as Elise tried her best to string works together. "Er... yep. Chicken and waffles sounds great, i'm sure he'll put everything into making them and stuff, too..."
Scarlett trailed off and once more pressed her lips together, she was going to attempt to say more however her dad's words from the kitchen had a rather forced chuckle leaving her. "There's your answer babe, kitchen." There was a shared, awkward smile between the fiances before an arm was dropped and Chi was on her way, not before sending Elise a slightly pitiful glance.
Scarlett stood in the middle of the walkway for a few moments before shifting to push a hand through her hair, making her way over to where Elise stood and unceremoniously flopping onto a single-seated across from Elise. For a moment she debating pulling out her phone, mainly to busy herself with something... other than feeling kinda useless. But instead her gaze fell back onto Elise and she opened her mouth. "...So... your singing group..." that was like, the only other thing she could think to bring up right now, "...That...acoustic track on... like... chuutube was just your piano backing, right?" A hand moved to scratch at her cheek and she crossed her legs awkwardly, "It sounded, y'know, nice and stuff."
Chinami on the other hand made her way into the kitchen now, a place familiar to her, plastic bag held gently in her hand as she swung it to and fro. There was something in her fiances fathers voice that... unnerved her, and if she paused to think she could summon up fifty-thousand possibilties as for why, mainly surrounding how it was... probably kinda inappropriate for her to be here right after Ellie's tragic loss, but she didn't really wanna dwell too much on it. It was a family dinner, it should... maybe... be okay, she was here to wrangle in Lettie, soo... yep.
In the kitchen now she spotted Daniel busying himself and attempted her best smile, "I wasn't sure how many would be here so... I might have made a few too many little things of dip- you can keep them of course! My family aren't too fond of it..." The distinct rustling of her plastic bag rung out as Chinami fetched a few tupperware tubs of dip out and put them in the freezer. She closed the fridge then and turned around, empty plastic bag now held in her hands as she watched thegirls dad for a few beats. "Uh... did you need any help with cooking, sir? Dishing up... or..."
As Scarlett spoke, Elise blinked and shook her head from her daze, not entirely believing her sister would take any interested at all in PNG. What came after, though, had her slowly nodding. “Yeah…..” And then a slightly warmer and more genuine “Thanks… I worked really hard on it….” Every note had to be perfect. Every key. Every beat. Everything. She had slaved over it as she tried to match the music in her head to the music in her hands. For a moment, a semblance of pride touched her heart. If nothing else, she had her music…. She had made something solely hers— well, the girls’ actually. It was their creation, but they were friends. They were close. They wouldn’t ever break up. Right?
Dan turned as Chi entered into the kitchen. There was a knife in his hand, but he was clearly just chopping vegetables to put up in the follow up salad. “Sounds good, I know my girls love dip,” he answered. As she followed up with that question, though, he gave a small nod and made a gesture to the waffle maker that was clearly doing its job of turning batter into bread. “Can you keep an eye on that, no need for it to get burnt,” he answered. Only after a moment or so of going back to work did he start speaking. “So when did you do it?” he asked pointedly.
Scarlett fidgeted once more, though her words maybe, probably, sorta had Elise... talking? Scarlett already was awful with people, but she had to get better with this conversation thing, as tedious as it was she was going to be working with all kinds of people, and talking and actually... being able to make them feel better was a thing she had to, like, try and do now. "...I can tell..." was said in response. Scarlett's hand moved to pull her short hair into a ponytail as she leaned back slightly on the couch then, a few beats of silence following her words until she followed with, "After the PNG stuff, do you plan on, like... uhmm... playing professionally...?"
Chinami on the other hand was glad to be able to help out in the kitchen, or be of some use. Moving to shift the plastic bag in the cupboard for later use she made her way over to the waffle maker, a small smile on her face. Thankfully, Dan didn't seem to want to kill her, that was probably reserved for Elise's ex at the moment and as far as she was aware he didn't know about the ring, so she'd just read the room and his tone of voice wro-
Or... she hadn't. A rather startled noise left Chi's lips as Dan spoke, flicking her gaze from the waffle maker that she'd just begun watching like a pro to the father. Do it... Chinami wasn't dumb, there was one event he could be referring to, but... Scarlett hadn't told him? Of course she heard that her two sisters found out but... uh... "...ah..." was what left her, instead of a proper answer to Daniel's direct question. "...if...you're talking about what I think you are, sir... uh...." Her eyes snapped back to the waffle machine, not quite able to formulate words while her gaze remained on Daniel's back. "A few days ago... less than a week. It just kinda... happened?"
After PNG? Elise wasn’t sure what to think about that exactly but…. she nodded a little at Scarlett’s words. I don’t want to think about it. But it would end eventually, wouldn’t it? But our friendship won’t, will it? But she hadn’t thought hers and Tony’s relationship would end either. Elise’s chest tightened a little, and she found herself staring at the TV blinking harder than before. “Yeah kind of like…. like what Mom does….” she mumbled a bit quieter than before. Their mother who they hadn’t seen in person in how many weeks or months? When was she coming home again? She wouldn’t register any sounds from the kitchen. None at all.
Dan was quiet as Chi spoke, but his hands kept working and preparing dinner as needed. As Chi finally spoke, he hummed a little and turned to her. “Just kind of happened?” he repeated slowly, his tone questionable right then. Turning to her, Dan pulled a towel from the rack and wiped his hands off briefly. He looked…. Serious. “Chi, I need you to be clear with me,” he stated low now. “You do not plan to go back on any of this, do you?” He was… serious. The normal light fatherly look in his eyes had grown stern.
Elise seemed to be thinking for a moment and Scarlett fought against the itch at the back of her mind telling her to grab out her phone and end conversation there, the awkwardness being too much for her to really be able to deal with. A hand moved to tap on her kneecap then, eyes drawing to the floor and only rising back up as Elise spoke once more... kinda... like mum...Eyebrows narrowed, mum. Mum, who was never there, Mum, who cared more about her job than her daughters, Mum, who never gave Scarlett the time of day. "...like what mum does..." It was echoed, a judgmental edge to her voice.
Scarlett was incredibly opinionated about their mum, she'd started many family dinner fights over it that ended in abanonded phone and dramatic exits that Scarlett, even now was still kinda proud of, like when she yanked the table cloth off the table and the food went everywhere, with the classic stop acting like you fucking care, mum, when all you've ever cared about is getting everybody but your own family to adore you. A shallow breath left the blonde there, and her eyes narrowed, body moving to better look at her sister. "Like leaving her family at the drop of a hat for whatever stupid fucking gig she has to attend?" There was a certain bite to her voice that she couldn't keep down, and Chi wasn't exacly here to tell her to shut up... so... "If you're gonne do what mum does, you better actually have your priorities in check- what are you gonna do about us at home if your idol group goes on tours? will you have time for any of us?"
Meanwhile Chinami was practically staring a hole through the waffle machine, she wasn't too good with these kind of situations at all, especially when it was around her now fiances dad, she respected him a hell of a lot, especially for raising so many girls and running his own business, and the last thing she wanted was to upset him. His tone had Chinami wincing, stringing a hand through her hair and glancing at Dan once more over her shoulder, an mumble of, "...I mean, I... yeah, but-" She cut herself off, as if sensing he was going to say more. She turned then, a hand reaching out to grip at the bench as she simply watched him, biting the inside of her cheek in anticipation.
His voice, his posture, the man wasn't happy. He sounded like her Obaasan did whenever she so much as stepped out of line, and he practically radiated seriousness.... Was it hot in here? It totally was, that look had Chinami shrinking ever so slightly, and his words launched like bullets, waiting to be deflected. Her answer came quickly, a mere squeak of, "O-Of course I don't, sir!" She paused, glancing back to the waffles only to see they weren't... quite ready before shrugging her shoulders, alright... uh... "You already know I love Scarlett- it's not like I just grew a ring out of a bush and gave it to her- like, i've thought about things, I already want to spend the rest of my life with her, so..." Her eyes flicked to the doorway of the loungeroom them and she mumbled another, "Uhm..." left her.
How could she finish it off nicely?? "I just kinda... saw her bloom before me like a begonia in season- er... wait..." That, wasn't the right way to phrase things. Lips were brought together for a moment and she took that time to notice the waffles were ready, opening the lid with a soft pop and shuffling around for a moment. "She just looked so utterly happy in the moment I just found myself... dropped to a knee, like a oh, this ring could... harvest her happiness!" Maybe Chinami wasn't the best with words at the current moment, but as she brought a plate up to put the waffles on she at least sounded, fairly confident in herself. "...I've already been with her years, sir, if I planned to back out of any of this I would have left years ago- did you need any more waffles done?"
Elise’s lips parted and immediately closed. The snide way Scarlett had responded was enough to assure Elise she’d said something wrong. She didn’t need the follow up. It came anyways, and Elise physically flinched. “Scarlett….” she mumbled hastily.
What are you gonna do about us at home if your idol group goes on tours? W-what? Wil you have time for any of us? What— what was… was…. why was…. Elise’s eyes watered, and rather than respond to those hurtful words, she just choked on a sudden sob instead. Was that why Tony left? Was he worried that her idol career was taking her time and just decided to cut it? Or was it that when they were both busy, he realized he didn’t need her? Elise was crying. Again.
Meanwhile as Chi assured him that she meant all of her intentions, Dan softened just a little. He had already had to deal with one daughter-heartbreak today. The last thing he needed was another. At least Chi was a good girl from what he’d s— “….” And then Chi went and opened her mouth, calling his daughter a begonia in season and….. Dan’s eyes narrowed again. Harvest her happiness?? The mix of word meaning and tone might have been disorienting otherwise, but Dan was a man who read into meaning first and foremost. “You’re talking about deflowering my daughter?” he snapped a little at her.
Before he had a chance to say more, though, the sounds of sudden, dramatic sobs hit his ears and had him looking back towards the living room. “Elise?!” What had set her off now? Ugh, his poor children.
Scarlett was verging on livid. Arms moved to cross tightly around herself as her eyes narrowed into daggers. She didn't understand, like what mum does. Yeah- like leaving the family and her. Like that's such a grand idea. Yeah, maybe Elise was fucking sad but it just kinda aggravated Scarlett more that that woman was brought up. Elise began sobbing and Scarlett brought her lips together to stop her from saying anything else, instead moving to stand up from the couch. Fucks sakes. What did Chi say to say when you made somebody cry? "...sorry..." was mumbled out,but she couldn't manage much more than that. Hands moved to push through her hair and Scarlett very much debating leaving right then and there.
It'd be better for everybody, wouldn't it? Elise's breakup dinner- why would she ever want Scarlett there. Scarlett and her fiance. At least Chinami was playing house, making dip and shit, Scarlett was making her sister cry and getting pissy over the one mention of mum. "ugh- uh- fucking hell...." She took a retreating step back- and then she heard dads voice.
Chinami was sure she explained herself properly! She'd searched her brain for the best words to describe what her fiance meant to her, to assure Daniel of her love and how she wouldn't leave- except... words must have got tangled, like dastardly weeds around the base of an innocent tree. A sputter and a wicked blush both occured atthe exact same time, following Scarlett's dads words. "N-No! Sir-I meant- I want to k-keep making her happy! L-Like, sparkly eyed- so she can stay like a- uh- ever-growing forever flower or- uh-something!" A hand was brought to her cheek and she shook her head back and forth a few times, "I'm sincerely sorry, i'd never speak of that around a father-figure, I just- wording things is not my strongest ability??"
Eyes snapped to the doorway as sobs began to break out, that obviously weren't Scarlett's. Her mouth opened, and closed before a sigh left her- an escape. She was quick to peek into the doorway, and, as she thought, Elise was crying. And Scarlett looked... like Scarlett who'd probably just done something she hadn't. An apology glance was sent to Daniel before Chi made her way into the room towards Scarlett, grabbing her forearm and pulling her to the side for a moment. A hushed conversation quickly followed.
"It's not what it looks lik-" "Lettie." Scarlett sent a semblance of a glare towards Chinami, was was still slightly red from her previous encounter. "I don't care what happened sweetie, but she just got her heart broken. If you get annoyed think of her like a wilting flower- one wrong gust of air and she's basically dead." Scarlett huffed, gaze flicking from Elise to her fiance . Chinami's metaphors sucked, and it's not like she knew she shouldn't have gone off. 'Yeah well she mentioned mum-""Get mad at her another day but today about it, just nod and go 'uh huh' if she brings her up again- wilting flower- you don't wanna make her upset like you didin school, right?" The hushed conversation continued for a few seconds before before Chinami moved again, sending an awkward smile to Elise.
"...I'm sorry, Elise, she didn't mean anything by it..." Scarlett was all but tugged forward slightly and she girl pushed her lips together, "Already said sorry." Ahhh... ahhh... this was... such an awkward situation. Chinami didn't know if she should go back to the kitchen or if she should try and help Elise... Chinami tucked a lock of dark blue hair behind her ear before softly mumbling, "...would... you require a hug? Iknow it's troubling times for you right now... dinner is almost ready."
Scarlett’s apology fell on deaf ears. Elise was being crushed by what felt like ever increasing weights, and she was breaking again. It’s not like I’d cut anyone off! It’s not like I’d ignore anyone’s feelings! It’s not like I’m Mom. I just …I just…. Tony why…. Elise wanted to evaporate out with her own tears.
Dan Bell, meanwhile, was not having a great time either. He wanted to demand what Chi actually meant then, but Chi went and put her foot in her mouth again and just managed to piss him off again. He’d been about to say something (and raise the elongated salad fork he’d been using) only for distraction to overtake him. As Chi went over to Scarlett, Daniel went over to Elise. “Ellie, what’s wrong?” he asked bending down again to her for what felt like the nth time that day. She looked up at him, eyes wet, face twisted up again.
“Did he break up with me because I’d be like Mom?” Elise’s words hit Dan harder than he knew what to do with. Dan stared for a solid second before looking over to Scarlett and Chi and then back again. He wanted to say something, but he’d run the gambit on arguments regarding their mother before. Instead, he just hugged Elise to him and pat her instead. She settled again a little awkwardly, a bit too drained to go into full theatrics right then and there.
Elise eased back just as Chi had finished talking to Scarlett and come back over. Looking at Chi, Elise felt her eyes water and then nodded her head. Hugging around the girl next, she choked out a “I can’t wait to be sister in laws with you!” that was entirely forced and somehow entirely genuine. She wanted to be happy for Scarlett and Chi. She wanted to not feel like every little thing she did or said was wrong. She wanted them to be happy tonight even if she wasn't! She just wanted someone to be happy!!!
Chinami was thankful the girl accepted her hug, already expecting the worse from what happened with Scarlett, and readily wrapped an arm gently around the younger girl, easing a hand down her back in an attempt at comfort. Her words had momentarily taken Chinami back, they were so... pure. During times like this, she still could say things like that- truly a kindhearted girl. "And I, you, Elise." Was Chi's response, quiet yet stiff. It took her a few beats to think of something else to say, knowing that it was probably best to keep talking when comforting somebody so their thoughts didn't wander.
"...if it'll help any, I could bring you lavender and jasmine after work tomorrow? I'll be stopping by anyway to get Scarlett for date night..." She trailed off for a moment, pulling back from the girl to offer her the best smile a girl who's girlfriends dad assumes is a total sleezebag and in it for deflowering his daughter could give. "And they're supposed to aid in helping you sleep and calming you down, with stress and such."
Scarlett could practically feel the disappointment radiating from her dad, but didn't dare look at him, either that or some other form of negative emotion. She knew she always fucked up, didn't need to rub it in. Stubbornly she crossed her arms tighter and moved to the other side of the room, instead leaning against the wall like the total cool kid she was and staring at Chinami, who was obviously decent with people and knew at least what to say when people were upset. Upset people just made Scarlett feel off... ergh.
Elise sniffled a little. She wanted Scarlett and Chi to be happy. So happy. She wanted them to be so happy that she didn’t have to think about her own situation. If she could just…. forget… that Tony ever existed then… then… then…. Her chest tightened as Chi spoke. Lavender… and jasmine…. S-sounded nice…. And…. and maybe a little soothing and…. Elise nodded along with Chi’s words. Being calm was good. Sleeping was good. She… she kind of wanted to do a lot of that now. Just…. just yeah. “S-s-sounds good….” she squeaked out softly.
Dan Bell sighed softly. He really…. really wished Celeste was home to do something. He knew she was busy. He knew they’d agreed long ago that they’d do everything in their power as a couple… as a family….. He didn’t want to hamper her dreams, but he wished she was there…. Right then. A soft sigh escaped form him. “Dinner should be ready soon,” he stated heading back to the kitchen. “Why don’t you all just sit down at the kitchen table.”
Elise seemed better, or, that's what Chinami thought! She was going to collect as many helpful flowers as she could get, especially if it would help the girl. She wasn't... too close to the girl so really it was the only thing she could do without things being weird. Unless they were already weird? They probably were.. .uh... "...Okay." Chinami couldn't help feeling slightly awkward by this whole scenario, and she was sure Dan was going to attempt to speak to her again later- but she had to be there for Scarlett... so...
She made her way back over to Scarlett, her slightly askew expression shifting slightly to more of a gentle smile. That was her fiance, the girl she wanted to marry. And more than anything right now she needed Chi. She was about to say something to Scarlett, hand hovering over her forearm until Dan sighed and spoke- ah- yeah... dinner.
Chinami was the sweetest. Scarlett smiled at the blue haired girl, though it didn't quite reach her eyes. This sucked. She was alking eggshells and now she couldn't even look Ellie's way without feeling a pang of guilt. Scarlett walked slowly over to the next room and to the table, dragging herself into her usual seat, closest to the hall that led to her bedroom incase she needed to make a quick dramatic escape. Chinami placed herself next to Scarlett and smiled at her. "It smelt really good when I was in the kitchen, i'm sure you'll love it."
There was a pause and Scarlett shrugged, "Yeah well dad's good at cooking, you've had his meals before." Mmm... Chinami brought her eyes up then, seeking out Elise. She didn't wish for this dinner to be awkward, at all. But Scarlett was in a mood so... "...Have you been to the botanical gardens recently, Elise? I've heard the flowers are going to start blooming soon!"
Elise sat down at the table in her usual spot. Normally, she was couched between two other sisters, but they were suspiciously absent right then. Fishing out her phone, she started to text only to slowly lower her hand again and just… stare down at the kitchen table instead. Her gaze flicked sideways as she was again acknowledged by Chi, and a small smile tried to pull itself onto her features for a moment or two. “Not recently… I know spring is on the horizon, though…” Maybe she should take some time and go out that direction, actually. It would be nice to get out of the city.
“Ellie, Scarlett… Chi… what do you want to drink?” Dan called as he opened a cupboard.
“Uh… Water’s fine Dad!” Elise twisted around quickly, ready to get up if need be. As she turned, though, he made a motion for her to stay seated, and she eased back into her chair again. After a moment more, Dan came forward with each of their chosen drinks and set them down.
A small was given to Elise's response... spring. Chinami adored spring, sometimes it was fun to just go and take pictures or flowers, or collect a few, or to begin planting again! Ahhh, she was just so excited, and began to say as such. "From what i've seen online it's supposed to be a good spring too- such nice temperate weather, which means the flowers are going to be just super lovely, isn't that right babe?' She was not trying to drag Scarlett into this. Scarlett had been picking at the hemline of her jacket as her fiance spoke and shrugged. "...sure."
Chinami lightly kicked her under the table, her expression dying ever so slightly. She had to be more cheery, more upbeat! Her sister had just had her heart ripped in half- of course this only resulted in a game of footsie under the table that Scarlett was determined to win, with Chinami just sighing at her- footsie was awkward when you were sitting next to the person! "You're such a child.""Please, you love i- oi!" She moved to attempt to lock Scarlett's leg, catching it between her two and turning the chair slightly, a victory gleam shone in the girls eyes and Scarlett was five seconds from calling out foul play when a voice rang out through the house.
Both girls attention was taken as Dan spoke, detwining legs with Chinami flushing slightly. A-fucking-ha! Scarlett snickered, a loud, "Eh, some Cola with ice." leaving her while Chinami managed out, "Uh... juice- orange juice if that's alright?" she moved so she pushed her chair right back into the table, gaze flicking back over to Elisefor a moment, the vibes being given off by the girl weren't adequate.
As Dan came back into the room Chinami managed a breath, she hoped he wouldn't say anything at the table... Scarlett probably didn't even know he knew and if she found out what had happened in the kitchen... she'd probably laugh at Chi, actually. But like the stupid snicker that kinda makes her feel like her flowers are wilting.Drinks were taken, with Scarlett immediately grabbing her own with two hands and tossing it back, a few generous sips being taken before it was quickly put back on the table.
"...Do you need help plating?" Chinami turned then to look at him then, a hesitant smile on her face. Scarlett had gone back to playing with the hem of her jacket, damn it was a fiery red. She wished some of the other sisters were here to, at least this way she wasn't stuck with Elise who looked like a kicked puppy ever other minute- Scarlett didn't like kicking puppies.

A soft smile pulled onto Elise’s features as Chi spoke. Spring… would be here soon. It would warm up and melt the cold still persistent in their area… and then they could move on. Flowers would start springing up; animals would start appearing alongside their hardier Pokemon counterparts. It would be nice.
Soft color came to Elise’s features as she realized what was happening under the table, and politely, her eyes averted. Luckily Dad intervened in one form or another, by asking about drinks and then getting those drinks. Elise took her water and slowly took a sip. Distantly, she realized how dehydrated she was and… downed more of it quickly.
Just as Dan was about to answer that no he was fine plating it himself, his phone started ringing. The familiar jingle of Celeste’s ringtone chimed. Pausing to fish it out of his pocket, he immediately responded. “Honey, right on time, I’ve almost got the—” Dan cut off. There was a knock at the door, and right after, Celeste Bell came stepping into the house smiling. “I’m home early!” she called.
The hem of Scarlett's jacket was probably gonna be picked dry by the end of the night, and it was a cool one too. But anything to really distract from the awkward atmosphere she was basking in right now. Chinami, while awaitig a response from Dan shifted instead to move to hold Scarlett's hand, pulling it gently into her lap and sending the girl the best smile she could muster. "You can't muck this up, it's just Elise and-"
Then. The door opened. And Scarlett's nightmares in human form entered, voice sickly sweet and promising falsitivites. It was her mum, if she could even call her that. Scarlett was this fucking close from getting up and storming out the house right then and there, evening completly ruined by the appearance of the one woman who had no right to be here- why now? Did she suddenly give a shit about Elise- did she even know?
Surely all this woman could do was make things worse. A sneer formed on her lips and a short breath left her, she was ready to let all hell loose and curse out the woman before she could even see her- at least until Chinami's gripped tightened slightly on her hand, shifting to raise it up to her lips and pressing a gentle kiss onto the skin before lowering it. "Be civil. You'll make Elise cry again- and i'm here. If you wanna yell at her, focus on me- on the ring even. I'll let you go off at me about her on the front lawn again tonight, okay?" A pause, and then, "And before you even try...I've got your hand captive anyway, my vines have tightened. Good luck trying to escape, sunflower."
Scarlett could have snorted if she wasn't on the verge of fuming, instead she huffed and with her free hand moved to grab her Cola, shooting the whole fizzy drink back. Chinami took that as her chance to glance towards where the woman was and offer her best smile, "Uh... Evening, Mrs Bell! Back in time for dinner?"
Elise sat there stunned. W-when had Mom said she would be coming home? Last month she’d said her road trip would be over… uh…. in another few months? Was her timeline off and this actually made sense or— her eyes shot to her father who was standing there equally stunned for a moment. No, that wasn’t right. Her gaze followed him as he walked forward
“Honey, what are you doing home? Everything ok? Did something get canceled?”
“Oh yes, my trip to Hoenn got delayed due to some changes in schedules, and I figured I might as well book a quick trip home in the meantime eheheheheh…”
It was all background noise to Elise. She couldn’t really focus on what either of her parents were saying. Glancing sideways to Scarlett and Chi and noticing the subtle affections between the two, she then looked forward again and unintentionally saw the same with her parents. They looked so happy together. And here she was without Tony sitting at the table with her and…and…and…..
“Oh hello there Chinami, dear, nice to see you as always…” Celeste Bell spoke turning towards the girl and smiling. “Scarlett, Eli—” Elise had slapped both hands over her eyes and was taking deep, shaky breaths. She couldn’t look. She didn’t want to look. She wanted to cry, but her eyes were not watering like they should have. She was dehydrated and exhausted from crying. There was small inflection and some quick whispers between her parents, but Elise couldn’t hear them now. She was aware of an awkward pause followed shortly by a hand on her shoulder. As she lowered her hands again and looked up at the face of her moth, Elise found her breath taken away again.
“Oh sweetie, I heard what happened and just had to come see you…” It was a lie. Elise knew it was a lie. Everyone knew it was a lie. Why her mother bothered lying was beyond her, but for a brief moment, Elise took the words as comfort. Both arms reached out, and she hugged around her mom and cried stiffly.
Chinami managed her best smile back, free hand moving to gently tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. She'd heard how much of a .... weed, this woman was on Scarlett's life. She'd heard tales, and she'd met her countless times, but that doesn't make her presence any less intimidating. The woman was a star, and hauntingly beautiful- like- not as pretty as Scarlett of course but the type of pretty that retro movies pushed for and that you expected celebreties to look like- and it make Chinami incredibly nervous. A soft, "Lovely to see you..." Was echoed back.
Oh. Oh Scarlett was sceething. Her trip t Hoenn got delayed so she thought she just just show up with no fucking notice? Without telling anybody- without telling dad? Scarlett's eyes stayed trained on the duo, narrowed into a glare. Chinami still gripped her hand, but the sentiment of doing it to keep her distracted was lost the more her focus stayed on that woman. She was fucking oblivious, deadset thought she just just waltz in here with the air of being the allmighty queen who could do whatever the fuck she wanted.
She wasn't here to help Sofia through exams, she wasn't hear to even if she hadn't announced it hear about how her daughter got engaged, arceus fuck she was kidding herself if she even gave two shits that Elise just got broken up with. As as the woman spoke her fucking name Scarlett brought her attention away from the girl. eyes instead moving to Elise. Oh. Oh fucking good one, mum. She looked like she was going to cry again and the woman hadn't even done anything. Scarlett balled her spare hand into a fist, nails digging into her palm slightly.
Her parents were talking, dad was obviously filling her mum in, like she was allowed to cheat on some kind of fucking test, yeah, good on you dad, add even more fuel to the damn fire. Celeste was moving over to comfort her daughter and- the words that left her mouth made Scarlett wanna puke. She heard what happened and just... had to see her?! And- and then Elise took her into a fucking hug?!
Eyes shot to her dad, Scarlett was enraged. It probably served more as a warning than anything, she was this close to going off. "Scarlett, swe-" Scarlett ignoed Chinami in favour of staring down her dad for a few more seconds, a scowl settling on her features before she turned her gaze back to mum, and then. "Cut the bullshit. You just said you booked a trip home because your trip got delayed, if you knew about what happened to Elise you wouldn't just waltz in here like an oblivious fucking barbie doll." Ah. That felt good to say. Scarlett moved to unclasp her hands from Chinami's, despite the slight protest from the girl.
Elise was giving her mum a pity hug. If Scarlett was going to make her point, she also had to put into account Elise and her emotions. "Have some tact and save face- arceus knows the botox can't save yours." Chinami brought a hand up to her mouth, either to stiffle giggled or shock, not even Chi knew. Another hand moved to attempt to grab her ring hand again and bring it back under the table. Oh Celeste Bell got to pick and choose who she comforted, who she threw all her fake shit over- she wasn't doing that right now. "Sure, be all motherly and comfort her, I don't care, but you've been here hardly five minutes and your bullshit stinks. Just go 'oh i'm so sorry i'm here for you' not 'I came just to see you despite what i'd just said and my ability to not read the fucking room'"
She didn't yell for now, and that was something Scarlett was proud of- that and her impression of mum. Chinami managed to succesfully wrestle the ring hang back into her lap and managed out, "Scarlett... babe... As I said, front lawn tonight- I know you're... itching to make a scene but you're better than her, remember? Be civil, shock her." It was whispered softly and Scarlett just clicked her tongue, gaze searching out her cola and... yeah shit it was empty. Chinami felt herself growing increasingly more uncomfortable, it's not like this was the first dinner she'd gone to where Scarlett declared war, but... it was the first where they were Fiance's, and such a bad situation too. Scarlett pleaaaseeee....
Dan’s eyes shot away from Scarlett. He turned, walked towards the kitchen, and started to fix up another plate. Celeste, meanwhile, sat back and looked at Scarlett with a small frown. Elise shifted too looking at her and then Chi. The “argument” if one could call it that that ensued, however, had Celeste straightening and something in Elise finally broke.
Whatever happened, whatever was said, would be halted instantaneously when Elise stood, grabbed one end of the table, and with all the force of a dancer, flipped it forward. She stood there for a solid second longer before turning and running, at once to the back door and then out of it. Celeste had moved to follow her, but Elise already had a Pokeball out. In a flash, Stella the Skarmory had been released, and Elise was throwing arms around her neck and issued only one word. “Fly.” And the Skarmory complied. And she was gone.
Chinami didn't like how Scarlett wasn't answering her, she didn't like the sudden tension in the room, it was like a rubber band about to snap. Scarlett was staring at her glass like she was willing it to break with her gaze, Celeste seemed to either be sizing up her daughter or sending her some sort of dissaproving notion- ahhh this is why Chinami adored her household, all their thoughts were laid directly on the table and she didn't have to try and mindread, not that she could iot's just that everybody was so passive aggresive? Just when Chinami was going to try her best to break the silence there was the sound of a chair scraping, Elise stood up and then...
A noise of shock left the blue haired girl. She was quick to grab her glass and attempt to move back a little, other hand still on Scarlett as she tugged slightly. But Scarlett was already on her feet. At first, the blonde was silent, gaze following Elise's retreating form before landing to the mess on the floor, then to her mum, then to her fiance... Scarlett was speechless for a moment, processing what happened... Elise... flipped... a table... was she mad at mum too? No... She... flipped a table... because... she was emotional? Scarlett didn't understand. There was a blink, another blink. Chinami was frantically looking at the table now, letting go of Scarlett's hand to put her juice to the side, a hushed, "Sorry- i'll.. uhm... fix this." Left her before she was moving in an attempt to lift the table.
...This was mums fault, that was all Scarlett could think. If she hadn't come they could have had a nice family dinner, or something, Elise could have her favourite dish and be able to live happily after her shitty as breakup, but no. Nope. Nuh-uh. Eyes flicked to her fiance who was struggling to manage to lift the table by herself, and instead of helping Scarlett managed out a, "I can't be in the same room as her right now., Chi." before storming off to her bedroom. Fuck you, mum.
A helpless glance was spared in Scarlett's direction, watching her walk away before Chinami shook her head. She'd talk to her later... it was fine. She was in a mood, Chinami understood, but... it still kinda hurt not getting her help. Flowers- for everybody would be brought tommorow! Her apologetic gaze moved to Celeste, then to the doorway where Dan was. "I'm sorry Mr and Mrs Bell... i'll clean up as much as I can in here." she was struggling a bit with the table, so Chinami moved instead to attempt to gather things that hadn't been squashed, like... uh- like the napkins- something had been smashed and Chinami wasn't sure what... At least the food hadn't been brought out Chinami wasn't sure what she would have done, at the very least there'd be drink spilled in the carpet- water was what Elise had, right? So they wouldn't need soap...
Dan looked between his wife, his fleeing daughter— his other fleeing daughter, and then the other one. And then he made a decision. “Elise!” And that was him running out the back door to try and catch up with her, as if any of his cat Pokemon could match the speed of an in-flight Skarmory.
Celeste, meanwhile, stood there stunned for a moment. Her eyes flicked towards Scarlett and then back to Dan and then finally down to Chi. A deep, guttural sigh escaped from her, and her entire body seemed to deflate for a moment before she walked over and attempted to help Chi right the table again. This was indeed a mess.
