The sound of something rolling through the underbrush would be masked by the rain for a good while until it caught Sparkle’s and Serenity’s attention. As they glanced up, Elise did as well. “Hu—“ And then she saw it, a large blue body rolling towards her at mach speeds.
A shriek escaped from Elise as she lunged sideways out of the way of it right as it crashed into the tree she had been standing under. Splashing into a puddle of mud, she scrambled up again with the aide of Serenity. “What in the world??” Elise didn’t have time to process the mud, rain, and anything else. Her eyes were fixated on the massive Snorlax that had stopped at the tree— unable to break through it. Sparkle squeaked, urging them to run as quickly as they could. Serenity agreed, but Elise was frozen for a moment. Frozen until the Snorlax slowly righted itself, turned to her, stared, and then started rolling forward again. Elise shrieked again.
Run. They had to run. They were going to get smashed into the ground by a giant rolling Snorlax in the rain. Oh goodness, oh gods. “Sparkle, Spark! Serenity, Swift!” she managed out as if her two Pokemon weren’t already preparing attacks. The Morpeko released a shocking electricity that combined with the stars of the Sylveon’s swift. But it was not enough. The Snorlax took the attacks and was still rolling at them. “RUN!” And with that, Elise had turned and sprinted. The sounds of her Sylveon and Morpeko running next to her didn’t catch Elise’s ears. All that did were the sounds of the rolling Snorlax—
And then suddenly she tripped. Face first in the mud, and the Snorlax was coming— about to—
BAM.
“PEKO!” With an unexpected power, Sparkle surged forth with a Brick Break that sent the Snorlax flying up through the brush into the air. The thundering sound of it hitting the ground after was deafening. Elise clasped her hands to her ears and closed her eyes. Oh god. Oh god. She could have been crushed.
Elise blinked back some shocked tears (and then got rained on anyways). Sparkle was quick to close the distance between them, and she immediately wrapped both arms around her. Serenity was there right after and quickly using her ribbons to ease Elise out of a puddle of water and down over into something a bit drier.
“What was with that Snorlax… usually they’re just sleeping on the side of the road…” Elise was talking frantically to herself. “I don’t understand…. How did it… why did it…” Elise breathed and shoved her face into Sparkle’s fur. Serene let out a soft noise. She didn’t understand either. She was just thankful they were safe. Sparkle let out a soft squeak back. She was suddenly exhausted from using the move on such a huge opponent but so very thankful that it had worked.
Above them resting in a tree, a Phantump watched and then faded into the tree, not wanting to disturb this girl any further.
Elise folded her knees up, allowing Sparkle just enough room to sit comfortably between them. Folding her arms around her knees and resting her forehead on her arms, she took slow… deep… breaths…. And finally started to cry. Sparkle squeaked. Serenity whined softly.
“Sorry…. Sorry…. I’m….” Elise choked out not able to be entirely coherent. It had started out so reasonably. She had been growing so confident now out being on her own, doing actual Pokemon journey things. She should have just stuck with a friend or one of her sisters or anything else but being alone aside from her Pokemon. If she’d been squished just then, what then? What could have happened out here in the miserable rain and mud? The more she thought about it, the worse off Elise was feeling. She hated this.
Walking through the storm, another was not quite in the same boat as Elise. “Do you see any other berries around, Togetic?” Roxy asked. The Togetic had stopped and was now pointing at something else, though, causing Roxy to freeze. “Hey! Hey you over there! Are you ok???” she asked stomping through the mud with her well designed boots. The sound was just enough to have Elise looking up slowly and her Pokemon looking off towards her.
O-oh no. Oh, she probably looked terrible. Rubbing her eyes, Elise took in a breath. “I—“ No, no she wasn’t ok. She was soaked and unprepared and afraid and….
Roxy looked her over and then extended a hand. “Hey, do you need somewhere to get dry? I have a house over that way,” she said making a head gesture.
“I…” Elise slowly nodded and was slowly pulled to standing. Sparkle climbed up on her shoulder and sat there now. Serenity immediately raised her ribbons to help in any way she could.
Roxy’s place was small but nice. Sitting in now with a cup of warm tea and a change of clothes, Elise felt…. Just a bit better than she had before. She and Roxy talked for a little bit. It was… nice.
Elise and Roxy had been in the middle of a conversation when the fornt door of the small house opened. “I’m home, Rox— Oh hi there,” Scout Kiki smiled a little as she set her drenched hat and coat on the rack. “Who’re you?” Roxy was quick to explain the situation, and Kiki nodded along thoughtfully. “That sounds really rough, feel free to relax as long as you like.”
“Thanks, I think once the storm passes, I’ll be on my way again,” Elise answered. Roxy gave an assurance that was fine too, and Kiki asked about dinner. Eventually Eise found herself sitting at the table watching two girlfriends harass each other in the kitchen as they made dinner. They were…. they were so cute together. She’d let out her Pokemon for dinner to each recover a bit and chatter on about where she was headed and why she’d been out in the storm. Thankfully Shadow had a chance to recover all good and well during this time as well.
As the storm faded, Elise thanked the girls and headed out just as she had planned. Now that the storm had passed, she could actually see how close to Cherry Town she was, and a slow breath drew in and out of her. “Almost there….” she mumbled to herself as she picked up the pace and headed towards town.
That was, at least, until she caught sight of a guy standing out on the road. His arms were folded and he looked… irritable and wet. Had he just stood out in the rain there with his…. Houndoom? Oh that poor puppy. Elise was concerned, both for the Houndoom and for herself, in fact. It didn’t take her but a minute to release Spotlight, her Hattrem, to fall into her arms just as a security precaution.
As she approached, however, the guy rather quickly straightened up and asked if she was Elise Bell. When she confirmed she was, he asked… for an autograph? Well, that was an unexpcted turn of events, but she was more than willing to accommodate. After that, however, he let her go just like that… and Elise trekked onwards.
