Set in the original region of Arciel, Legends Rising is a route-inspired, but not strictly route-based, Pokemon roleplay. Pick a faction, pick a class, and strike out into the wild to take on the League, master Contest coordination, research the mysteries of Pokemon and Arciel, and much, much more. Will you be a classic trainer? A criminal? A farmer? Choose your destiny on Legends Rising.
To participate in the Swarm, first post in this thread looking for a Pokemon. A mod will tag you and reply with stats for one Pokemon you find, including color and possibly even evolution depending on the species. Reply again encountering and trying to capture the Pokemon. Once you succeed, do not post in the thread again.
You may only find one per character, no rerolls. This is to prevent spamming to find special Pokemon. If for any IC reason you need to encounter another, use the same stats originally rolled and pretend it's a different individual.
Pokemon in Swarms have a 20% chance of being a special coloration!
Pokemon in swarms have a +20% capture rate with any ball, and will never flee.
This swarm closes at 11:59pm site time on October 7. After that, no new encounters will be spawned. However, anyone who has an ongoing encounter that isn't yet finished has until 11:59pm on the 20th of October to finish trying to catch their encounter. After that, the thread will be locked and archived.

If there was something Alicia was starting to clue in on, it was that Arciel had numerous opportunities for those who were willing to hoof it all over the region and patient to try multiple times. Such as at this moment, when a massive buzzing swarm cropped up on a route she’d metaphorically poked her head into a while earlier. While not her first idea for a flying mount, Alicia had to admit the powerful bugs were a good option, if you could get one that was large enough. This was more up Shalin’s alley though, but as a stop-gap measure until she fully raised the Bagon egg she had in her possession it was a good option. She smiled down to the egg and gave it a soft stroke as she thought about it.
Besides, maybe she’d come around to it? Shalin at least had a lot of fun on Flit and Queen Zing. But then Alicia would argue that Shalin had more then a few screws loose in her head. Still, she was here, and she was going to take a stab at finding a Scyther she could work with. Then Sefarr yipped at her side, prancing all around her, and Alicia sighed in response. Whatever was she going to do with this bundle of carefree energy? At least the noise was bound to attract something as Scyther were far from skittish.

Fortunately, it appeared Alicia wouldn’t have to wait long it appears. There was a heavy rustle from a nearby bush. Then another followed that, and she and Sefarr froze to gaze at it. Then the explorer squeaked a bit as the bush was utterly shredded by massive scythed arms. Alicia took a deep breath as the large insect was in view shortly.
She was still planning to get a fairly sizable example of the species. She just didn’t quite realize that meant the deadly blades that replaced its hands would be that much bigger as well. “Ho boy... maybe this was a worse idea then I originally thought.”
And yet... the mantis just seemed to tilt its head at her. Then it adjusted a bit more which struck Alicia as odd. She blinked and shifted to one side, to get a better look at the Scyther. It looked like it couldn’t see out of one eye, if how cloudy it was was any indication. A genetic defect, perhaps? The bug wasn’t scarred so she doubted it was an injury. And then she looked over the rest of the beast. Pale sections all over, looking almost... dead?
“... You’re close to molting, aren’t you?” Alicia wondered aloud. It would explain the cloudy eye. And the bug didn’t seem all that old yet. Seeing how calm it was despite the fact that it was in an impaired stare, Alicia risked slowly stepping closer to it.
The Scyther fixed its clear eye on her as she did, but otherwise didn’t seem to react. Alicia smiled softly as she came close enough to brush her fingers over it’s carapace. “Oh... I bet Shalin’s going to laugh herself silly if I show up with a Pokemon like you.”
She stepped back and fished out some extra chow she had, kneeling down as she did to lay it out for the mantis. If she was right, it might’ve been having difficulty with any hunting its done recently. The Scyther looked at her, then down at the offered chow. Bending down, it sniffed at it for a moment. Then it took a few bites, its wings fluttering as it did. Alicia let the mantis eat its fill for a short while, a Nest Ball in hand while she was waiting.
Once the Scyther was done, she lightly tapped it on the head to get it’s attention, holding out the Nest Ball. “What do you say? Want to come with me?”

First Flit, then Queen Zing, then Tari, and now she had heard word that there were a nearly problematic number of Scyther terrorizing travelers south of Birch City. This trip to Arciel was going to make her a Bug-type specialist if things continued on! Scyther as a mount would present a unique challenge for the young blonde - though their bodies shook like mad when in flight, just like any other flying insect, Scyther were also some of the fastest Pokémon on the Johto-Kanto continent. They were also known for being tempermental. While some of her Pokémon had personality quirks that made them less than obedient at times, she had yet to raise a Pokémon that had a defiant personality, and Scyther were known for being rebellious back home. Maybe Arciel was different?
Caprice and Kiku stood underneath the hovering Flit, the former's tails wrapped around her Trapinch egg that looked ready to hatch at any moment. Her mouth, bubbling with embers, was pointed in the general direction of the large, buzzing swarm, as was Kiku's musk-filled tail. The tip was filled to bursting and ready to fire at a moment's notice. Their goal would be to corral one of them into a spot where Flit could tear it apart. She checked one more time to make sure both her earplugs were in tight before guiding Flit a safe distance away from the rest of her Pokémon. Landing on a small hill to the side of the road, she took a deep breath before commanding Flit to Bug Buzz. The Yanmega single-handedly drowned out the entire swarm's buzzing for the few seconds the sonic attack lasted. Though Flit and Shalin were protected from the shock wave that uprooted all the grass for a dozen or so feet around them, Shalin lost all sense of sight and touch from the powerful rattling Flit subjected her to. As fun as it was, it was still exhausting for now. She figured she'd get used to it after a few more runs on him, but Arceus was that powerful. That cacophony would surely get a Scyther's attention while giving her Pokémon plenty of time to react.

The Scyther swarm. Ever since he heard about it on TV, Armand couldn't help but try to visit Route 6 again to check onto the said swarm. If he recalled from the books on Bug-type Pokemon and his Pokedex app, Scyther was known as adept hunters in the Kanto region as their movements were similar to a ninja and its sharp scythes on its arms. Upon he learned this, he became interested in this Mantis Pokemon and decided to try his hand on catching one.
As he arrived at the route once more, he was surprised to see many Mantis Pokemon around the plains. Although he wanted to avoid fighting, he knew a battle was inevitable, so he brought not only a Pokemon egg that his friend gave him again to keep an eye on it, which was inside in his bag but also his Litwick and his Houndour, who were still inside their Poke Balls. He knew two Fire-types might be a bit too much, but it was better than nothing. With a deep breath, Armand headed off and silently wander around to see many Scyther around him.
He sighed as he looked around the plains. Out of all Scythers he saw, nothing has come upon his sight. He was about to sigh in defeat and turned around, but he stopped when he saw a lone Scyther standing in front of him with its eyes on the 25-years-old trainer.
"Can I help you?" He asked as he prepared himself for the worse. It then responded by pointing its scythe arm to the trainer and gestured him to come. From its expression alone, he knew what it was trying to say. "I'm guessing you want to fight one of my Pokemon, huh?"
As expected, the Scyther challenged him in a battle. Well, he has no choice about this matter. Regardless, Armand responded as he took out his Poke Ball with a smile and said, "Very well. I accept your challenge. Violet, let's go!"
He then threw the ball up in the air, which opened up and let his Litwick out of it. At first, it was confused about where he was. But once he saw the Mantis Pokemon, he was slightly startled until he noticed his trainer's presence. This made him realized why he was here before he glared at his new opponent. The battle then started with the Scyther cried out as he used Focus Energy with Litwick fired several Ember to his opponent. However, Scyther dodged two of them as he followed up with two Fury Cutter.
"Damn... That Scyther's fast. Violet, use Smog to cover your tracks!"
His Candle Pokemon followed his orders as he released a small smoke towards the Bug/Flying-type. But despite its obscure vision, the Scyther sped through and hit the young Ghost/Fire-type with a slash.
"What the?! That looks like Pursuit! I never expect you to have some skills to cover your weakness and exploit your opponents with them. I'm impressed. But it's not enough to stop us!"
He then commanded his Litwick with another Smog and Ember, which struck true to his opponent before it used two more Fury Cutter. Unfazed by this, Armand commanded him to use Ember one more time just as it used Pursuit. As a result, Violet barely able to stand up while the Mantis Pokemon fell on the ground as it tried to stand up.
"Alright. This will clinch it!"
Armand then threw the Poke Ball to the Scyther in an attempt to capture it.

Shalin was breathing heavily when the Bug Buzz stopped...not to mention woozy. She could have sworn she had been atop Flit before and it wasn't as bad. While true, she failed to realize this was the first time she had done it while he was stationary and could focus on flapping his wings as hard and fast as he could. She stepped off her Pokémon and immediately lurched toward a nearby tree, her still-vibrating legs feeling like jelly. Caprice had been caught in the vibration, too. Though the shock waves didn't bother her at all, she flinched when she felt a burst of movement from within the Egg. It looked like it could hatch any moment!
Flit's ear-ringing racket had attracted what appeared to be one of the strongest of the swarm. It was not a Scyther, but its red-plated relative, a Scizor--and enormous, too, easily towering over both Flit and his trainer. The menacing-looking insect stretched its pincers straight toward Flit in an effort to scare him off the road. When he didn't back down, the wild turned around in an effort to flee back to the swarm. Maybe it wasn't a leader of the swarm after all? Either way, using one arm to brace herself against the tree she was holding onto, she tossed a Quick Ball at the fleeing titan.

Post by Faolan Byrne on Sept 28, 2020 21:10:59 GMT
Although she already had a Scizor stashed away in her pc box, still Faolan found herself venturing out at the report of Scyther swarming collectively around this area. For this journey she'd decided to take a few of her lower-levelled pokemon, but ones which still had a type advantage over bugs, both to test out her skills as a trainer and also to give them the chance to try their hand at battling. It was more a challenge for herself than anything, but one which she took on with enthusiasm. The same metallic egg, which seemed to be taking quite some time to hatch, was swaddled at her side securely, and she made her way through grassy rolling hills as groups of green and red-colored bug types scattered this way and that. Some of them eyed her up if she approached too close, but for the most part they remained at rest, content not to bother her if she didn't bother them.
She still kept an eye out, waiting for one to either break away from the group or to find a lone one that she could battle and catch for herself.
She hadn't been at it for very long when a Scyther detached itself from the rest of the group and made its way over, brandishing two of its scythed arms and giving her a look that very closely resembled a smirk. If not for the way a mischievous light seemed to dance in its eyes she would have taken it as more of a threat than intended, but it seemed rather like this sassy Scyther wasn't there to harm, but mostly tease. It wasn't a far cry from how the species usually behaved, but coupled with the angry furrow of its brow she could see how it easily would have intimidated anyone else. Especially with the grouping of bug-types behind it, this particular swarm seeming more ganglike than anything. She could see them watching her now, muttering amongst themselves in low cries of their species' names as they watched and waited to see what would happen next. Faolan adjusted the steel-glinting egg in her satchel and pondered over what to do next.
She had two options here, she knew; battling it or throwing a pokeball and seeing how the Scyther would take to being captured. Faolan fingered the two pokeballs she'd brought with her, one holding a Swablu and a Pidove, respectfully. She ran over the moveset in her head that she had studied, the ones she knew her pokemon knew, and came to a decision. There was a flash of red light and Swablu emerged, instantly taking to the air with a soft coo while the Scyther looked on in interest. Like before, it clanged its two scythe-like appendages together, letting out a mighty cry before charging forward with a violent swipe that just barely missed the blonde, who hurriedly stumbled back with a look of disbelief. Had that been a joke, as well? The Scyther's smug grin said as much and she felt annoyed with herself that she'd fallen for its feint, especially when that gave it an opening to attack her Swablu since she hadn't called out a command yet.
After recovering from the violent taunt the battle proceeded. Scyther got in a few good hits, landing a barrage of Fury Cutters on the poor Swablu who took each blow like a champ. That was, until Scyther started adding a spin to each movement, twisting its body with such velocity and speed it generated a Vacuum Wave to cast air at its opponent. The barrage of attacks wore Swablu down, the poor dragon-type fluttering when it could out of the way, but not nearly enough to fully escape the assault it was taking. Only when Scyther closed the gap did Swablu manage to get a few good Pecks in here and there, smashing its beak into the Scyther again and againw with as much force as it could muster - which wasn't a lot, all things considering. But it managed to pick out the tender spots in between the bug-type's natural armor, hitting those weak spots hard enough to leave bruises and get the Scyther reeling a bit, enough to tired it out as much as it tiring the Swablu out. Any longer and the match would be in the opponent's favor, and so Faolan took advantage of a lull in the battle to toss a pokeball on Scyther's blind side, right when the bug-type was gearing itself up for another combo of Vacuum Wave and Fury Cutters. The pokemon disappeared into the ball in a flash of red light, and she held her breath, waiting.
