How would you describe yourself? Gabe set his elbow on the table between himself and the interviewer, rested his cheek in his hand, and smiled coyly. “I’d like to say I’m pretty nice?” he ask-laughed. His tone earned a small half-laugh back from the interviewer. “I guess maybe that’s a loaded question, huh?” Gabe gave a nod in response. “Hm, well, how would others tend to describe you, then?” There was a pause, and it’s clear Gabe is thinking a little more deeply about that one. “Sociable, I’d hope,” he answered after a moment, flashing a bit of a cheesy grin. “I try to get along with others most of the time.” Well, that does seem like a reasonably good trait to have especially for a young person carving out their path. Why are you interested in the class you've chosen? The interviewer notes that Gabe is rather slim and tall for someone signing up to be an explorer of all things. Gabe chuckles in response before extending a hand forward. At first the interviewer is confused, but on closer inspection of Gabe’s hand, they understand. Despite his nails being manicured, his palms are callused. Despite his thin frame, he’s toned. “Looks aren’t everything,” Gabe comments. “But I do have a burning desire to see more.” There’s a strange note in the way Gabe is talking that the interviewer can’t place. A nod is given anyways. Why are you interested in training in Arciel? Why not another region? Gabe shrugs his shoulders. “I’ve spent almost half of my life here. I consider it more home than Arro where I was born,” he answered. “I’d rather get to know it first…. Than leave for an entirely different region.” Well, that made sense. What do you consider your best attributes? They can be physical, mental, social, or anything else. A giggle escapes from Gabe, and the interviewer can’t help but blush a little. It hadn’t been said as a joke, but it was clear Gabe was taking it as one. “I… well now,” Gabe commented reaching back to run fingers through his hair and pulling it sideways as if to show it off. “I do believe I am rather attractive.” The interviewer is tempted to add ‘and so modest’ back with just a hint of sarcasm, but that wouldn’t be very nice. A moment of silence fell between them as the interviewer expected Gabe to go on, but he just didn’t. Well, well ok then. What do you consider your worst attributes? Be honest, now! Gabe frowns. The interviewer assures him that this was one of the questions from the list. Gabe shrugs back in response. “I … suppose I get attached too easily,” he answers softly, quietly. The sense that there is a greater truth beyond those words vibrates in the air. The interviewer hesitates before going in for an off-script follow up question. “Has that hurt you before?” Gabe looks up, and something dangerous is now in his yellow eyes. The interviewer finds themselves glancing away. “Ah, sorry, that’s a little too personal for this kind of interview, sorry.” “An ex,” Gabe cuts in. “Hurt my feelings.” Gabe chuckles and shrugs his shoulders. “Sorry but can we not talk about that?” The interviewer nods. What was your childhood like? How was school? The interviewer kind of wants to smack themselves (or the list of questions, rather) for asking such things. Gabe stares for a moment before looking sideways and resting his jawline more squarely on his hand. “It was alright,” he answered. “I grew up with two parents, two bro— siblings. I’m one of a set of a triplets, actually,” he half laughs. “We used to get into so much trouble growing up.” There’s a look in Gabe’s eye that speaks more to this, as if perhaps for a moment he was reliving those days. “It was fun…” His features seem to fall a bit softer now. “While it lasted.” The interviewer hesitates before asking more about school, rephrasing the question a bit. Gabe blinks as if pulled form his thoughts. “Ah, I was home schooled before I moved here and then went to Bass City’s middle and high school.” He leans back to sit squarely in the chair and then back even further to raise the front legs off the floor. “It was fine.” The way he said ‘fine’ there raised questions, but the interviewer realized asking them was probably too personal again. And maybe had to do with that ex he’d already mentioned, right. How is your relationship with your family? Gabe looks forward and smiles. “I’m not very close with any of them now,” he answered slamming the two front legs of the chair on the floor as if to emphasize his point. “I used to be close to one of my siblings and then our mother, but things have changed.” It’s so very cold all of a suddenly, and the interviewer jumps to another question entirely. What do you like to do for fun? Well, that was one way to change Gabe’s mood. He seemed to relax a little and offered a smile. “Hmmmm, I enjoy going out on dates,” he answered. “Getting to know new people… learning new things. That sort of thing.” He leans in a little towards the interviewer. The interviewer leaned back a little. "Uhm..." they clear their throat. "What things do you like to do on dates?" They ask. Gabe hummed softly. "Well, more recently, I've picked swing dancing back up. I stopped for a while, but the secret to having fun is having a partner who already knows the steps." He laughed softly to himself at that. "Though I don't mind a sit down dinner followed by a movie now and again." The interviewer turns red. What are your feelings on romance? It’s blurted out, and the interviewer realizes that was off-script again, actually. Gabe leans in a little further over the table, and the interviewer leans back a bit. “I’ll give you my number later, sweetheart.” Oh. Oh, ok. Oh. What are your goals for the future? Short-term and long-term. Gabe frowns at that and sits back slowly. The interviewer has a chance to breathe. Folding his arms in front of himself, Gabe slowly looks up towards the ceiling panels. “I want to make money,” he admits with a small shrug of shoulders. “And perhaps be famous in some form or another.” The interviewer blinks a little and then remembers that he has signed up to be an explorer. Oh, so he wanted to discover something new and such and such. Ok. That made sense. If you could be a Pokemon, what species or typing would you choose and why? "Charizard," Gabe answered so quickly that the interviewer had to wonder if he knew the question was coming or what. "I like the idea of Flying, and Fire is... such a passionate Typing." There's... also a look in his eye that is questionable and hard to place. What do Pokemon mean to you? Gabe's brow raises, and he looks thoughtful for a moment. "I'll put it this way... I wouldn't be alive today without Lizbeth..." he answered. The interviewer is reminded that Lizbeth was his beloved Charmander, and a strange realization comes to them. Oh... Ok. That was... that was fair. Anything else you'd like to tell us about before you go? Gabe shrugged his shoulders and smiles. "My number is--" |
Appearance
Height 5'10" / 178cm Build Slim Muscular Hair Color Dark Purple Eye Color Gold/Yellow | Gabe is distinctly dark skinned. Even when he's been inside for days at a time, he doesn't really pale. His cut-scars tend to lighten rather than darken leading to a lot of white marks. He has three uniquely large cut-scars: one on his right forearm starting from his index finger and ending at his elbow, one across his back hooking from his right shoulder down to his left hip, and one along the curvature of his left knee and down the subsequent calf. He has numerous burn-scars that actually darken rather than lighten and are much harder to see. His hands have been severely burned to the point his old finger prints are gone. His skin is just overall darker on his hands than one would expect. His hair is incredibly long. When not tied up / back, it falls almost to the back of his knees. When tied up / braided, it goes about to butt. Gabe has one tattoo on his right shoulder of a set of five interlocking six-point flowers. The tattoo is mostly pink and white with some black behind it to make it more visible. He can wear simple t-shirt sleeves to cover it. Gabe also has 4 piercings: 1 in each ear lobe, one in his left cartilage, and one at his eyebrow. He doesn't often wear jewelry in the eyebrow or cartilage but does wear hoops, danglings, and studs in lobes. Gabe's fashion sense ranges extensively. While one is likely to find him in a beat up pair of jeans and an off brand t-shirt, he can dress up or dress down depending on the occasion. Most of his clothes are second-hand, though, in one form or another. Often, he wears a single gold ring band on his left index finger. Gabe is nearsighted and wears contacts to correct for this. On occasion, one will see him with glasses. Aura Gabe's aura is a series of soft pastels with hints of much more vibrant colors now and again. His spectrum is dominated by cool colors such as purples and blues. Traces of silver come and go. His overall aura is in the shape of fire, crackling and falling with his mood. |

Arcielian, Arroian, Eran, and Orrean are his strongest. He notably has a light Arroian accent even after all this time which gets progressively stronger the more flustered/stressed out he is. He cannot read in most of the language dialects he can audibly understand. Personal History: The Kempler and Alim families were rather wealthy and influential families in the Arro region. They were about as close to nobility as one got there, but like many families with that kind of power and prestige, they had social and political troubles up the wazu. Sarah Alim and Calvin Kempler were a good pair only on paper. They had reasonable chemistry and got along well in public, but there were a lot of underlying issues. When Sarah became pregnant, they quickly got married. The tipple boys that would come out of this were Gabriel, Michael, and Raphael. Gabriel was the oldest and most fickle of the children. He got a lot of attention because of this and became both his parent’s favorite and most burdensome. Michael was right behind him acting something of a partner in crime, and Raphael kept trying and failing to be the voice of reason. In their earlier years, this led to a lot of pranks on the servants and stress at extended family get together. It was mostly harmless— at least until Gabe set fire to most of the family garden and then proceeded to kindle an insatiable love of fire after the fact. During all these early childish antics, however, Gabe would also be exposed to how bad his parents were for each other. His mother was very unstable and flip-flopped between playing the victim and the instigator. His father was no better being verbally and sometimes physically abusive. There were several times when the boys would be sent to one grandparent’s house or the other when tensions became to high in their own. During a prolonged visit at Grandpa and Grandma Alim’s house, Gabe would meet his Uncle Abe who was frequently out of the country but happened to come home that time for one reason or another. The man said some things that would stick in Gabe’s mind for years thereafter, shifting and warping his worldview in many questionable ways. After the fact, Gabe spent less time worrying about his parents and more time thinking about how to get what he wanted from his parents. He realized he already had quite a bit of control over the servants at home, and he went to some lengths to test how far their loyalty would go for him. Unfortunately, he may have been a young master, but he was not his father, and things tended to blow up in his face and get him yelled at. Still, he persisted here and there always stretching the boundaries of what he could and couldn’t get away with. Things came to a sudden head when Gabe was ten. His mother came in one day with bags in her hands and promptly told them all she was leaving. Even Gabe was alarmed by this and didn’t react coherently. When she asked him if he would come with her, he said yes immediately even as his brothers tried to stop him. He asked them to come with him too, but for one reason or another, they wanted to stay with their father. He wasn’t actually sure he could blame them, but the sense of betrayal made him say very very very terrible things to them. And with that, he was suddenly Gabe Alim, son of Sarah Alim, living in the Alim manor with his grandparents. Between his mother’s emotional abuse and his grandparent’s social abuse, Gabe became an even more twisted and emotionally stunted individual. He actively sought out others to bully and manipulate and enjoyed expressing control over things. He twisted his mom’s arm so completely that they moved out of the manor and out of the country entirely. Why she had chosen Arciel of all places, he didn’t know, but it was away, and that was enough for now. They moved to Bass City, and Gabe started school there right after. In school, Gabe was rather popular. He was just social enough to be a familiar face to many, and he took a lot of care in how he presented himself. He made and manipulated a number of friends mostly as more tests to see how much he could get away with. His teachers both liked and disliked him as he maintained his grades but also tended to stir up trouble and controversy for the hell of it. He was in the principal’s office frequently for fighting, but most of the time it was because he was hit first rather than throwing a punch himself. His first (committed) relationship would come towards the beginning of high school, and Gabe would be lying if he said he didn’t feel some semblance of attraction to the girl. She was bright, poppy, and social. She got along with others but also seemed to have a questionable amount of relationships. He went into the relationship wanting to yank her chain around a bit and watch her crumble under his influence, but somehow, she managed to get in under his skin. Gabe couldn’t help wanting to run away with Ara, forget everything, and start over. That was a fairy tale dream that the logical part of him said was stupid, but he wanted it so badly. When she agreed to run away with him, they made it all the way to Ivy Town. Gabe then started making plans to leave the region. He wanted to get the fuck out, but Ara didn’t. She was having second thoughts and didn’t want to give up on her friends. Gabe said some horrible things about her friends right back, and a fight ensued. It escalated over and over again until finally Gabe was the one to break first. He left Ara there and went off alone. Gabe spent… an unhealthy amount of time out alone burning and cutting up stuff. When he finally cooled off enough to go home, though, he found his mother was… in the hospital???? She’d had a brain aneurism, and his entire family was flying in and around to see her— even his father and brothers. It was such a tense and awkward impromptu family reunion that Gabe would have preferred to be the one unconscious in the hospital bed if allowed. His father spent an uncomfortable amount of time trying to make amends for what he had done, and his brothers (oh, wait brother and sister? Ok, sure, whatever) had seemingly forgiven their old man over the years, but Gabe was far too spite filled for that and was having none of it. There was a lot of back and forth that culminated in Gabe stepping out. He didn’t return home. He didn’t return to school. Gabe walked all the way to the Pokemon Lab in Birch and asked them to give him a Pokemon. The lab was a little hesitant. He seemed both emotionally broken and mentally unhinged. Wouldn’t he prefer to sit down and maybe talk for a bit? No??? Well, well maybe a Pokemon would be good for him. Maybe he just needed some air. On clasping his starter, he immediately up and disappeared, traveling around and living entirely on his own. He struggled, socially and financially, but his tactics at least helped him out over time. He became a reasonable con artist and thief as well as hired help here and there. He was by far not the strongest candidate for anything, but he wasn’t the weakest. When he was sixteen, Gabe discovered he had some basic Psychic type qualities and started to practice some rudimentary Telekinesis and Psychic Suggestion. It was difficult and took up more of his time than he necessarily had to give right then, but occasionally, it helped him in a pinch. Things were ok for a while. Gabe struggled but had fallen into a routine. By seventeen, he’d fallen into a questionable group that at least had the decency of looking out for each other now and again. He didn’t always trust them, but he sometimes did, and that was enough. He had a few relationships here and there, but his own insecurities had made him disinterested and maybe just maybe he was realizing he was closer to asexual than he once believed himself to be. He had a few run ins with his brothers from time to time but often skirted the issue around them and/or avoided them entirely. When he asked them why they were still there, they mentioned having helped out their mother among other things. He laughed in their faces. Arceus that was a good one. One day while was doing some menial labor for some exta cash (and fully intending to rob the guy’s shop right after), Gabe happened to look up at one of the television screens to see none other than Ara there. Something in him snapped, and he quite literally snapped the broom he’d been using in half. He got yelled at for it and thankfully managed to talk his way out of it but ended up not robbing that guy afterwards. He decided to go to one of her concerts just to see what it was like, but that was such a bad idea on his part. He got so wasted afterwards that he picked a full on fight in a bar after and ended up getting jailed for it over night for disturbing the peace. He was released the next day but had by that time made a few decisions. He was going to do something about this, heh. Pokemon
