With her eye on their first big challenge - the Gym - Sunset had taken her team out on the training grounds. Now that she thought about it, maybe she didn't have exactly the right types of Pokémon to challenge the Bass City Gym. It was a water type gym, meaning her Pokémon would be having the disadvantage. But it was also fun to try, to see how far they'd come.
Sunset got three of the Pokéballs out of her belt and threw them in the air. 'Come on out guys!' Fennekin, Rockruff and Clobbopus appeared out of their balls. Sunset hadn't had a fight with them yet, that was why she wanted to get to know them on the Training Grounds first. She had chosen a flat, kind of muddy area. She didn't want them to have it too easy.
'Okay, listen up please.' Sunset bended her legs to get closer to the ground. Fennekin came racing towards her, Rockruff and Clobbopus followed. 'You all know why we're here right? To get ready to face the gym! So what I want to do, is focus on your moves, and how to use them in a way that wouldn't be expected.' That was one thing she learned from Abra. Because the Pokémon had only Teleport as move, she had to figure out a way to use that, and that gave her the idea to use moves differently. Sunset stood back up and took a look at her surroundings.
'Rockruff, let's start with you okay?' Rockruff answered with a sort of growl. Good. If she was in a fight right now. What could she do? Well.. First of, the sight was very clear here..
'Sand attack!' Rockruff ran up to the muddy ground, turned her back to her imaginary opponent and began to crawl the ground with her back legs. It worked as Sunset had hoped. A mixture of sand and mud was pushed into the air, making it harder to see what was going on. Sunset walked up to the battle area and scooped up a pile of mud. This way they would have something to target.
'Okay,' Sunset made her way to the side again. 'Rockruff, tackle on that pile!' Rockruff started moving immediatly. She smashed herself fully into the pile of mud, becoming brown instead of her shiny blue color.
'Okay, again, but change your direction in the last moment!' Rockruff charged again, but when she wanted to change her direction, she slipped in the mud, falling into it.
'Rockruff!' But the Pokémon got back up, shaking the sand of her body. 'Okay, try to maybe use your back paws more. Try to get them under your body before you turn. Try again if you're ready!' Rockruff immidiatly charged the pile of mud again. But now, at the last second, Sunset saw her indeed push her back paws behind her body, using that to have grip while she turned her body to hit the tackle from the side of the pile.
