Ever since moving to Arciel Elizabeth had begun reaching out to those in her community. As a ranger she wanted to be out an about helping people and getting to know her new neighbors. Back home her little town was so small everybody knew everybody. It was harder here in a much bigger city but she could at least help out those nearby.
Before she set off traveling the region she'd wanted to be sure she'd gotten a good handle on her new home plus had plenty of supplies for the journey. If there was one thing she'd learned in the military it was to always be prepared. Thus doing odd jobs around town was a great way of killing two birds with one stone as it were. Her pokemon were a big help as well. Each day was a chance to try something new and meet new people.
Today she'd stopped in at the pokemon center to check the bulletin board for any new listings. Cecylia, Damara, Raya and Loki were accompanying her outside while Ayla was being kept in her pokeball for the time being. Raya was in charge of keeping their mysterious egg safe. After taking a minute to peruse the board Liz settled on one particular ad. It seemed there had been reports of wild pokemon causing a ruckus in some folks homes. This sounded like a fine opportunity for the ranger.
Zubat was first on the list, thus Liz punched in the address location on her map and set off to see what they could do about these pesky fliers.

The lady whose attic is full of Zubat is thankful you are here but very fidgety. She keeps mentioning that she's afraid of them and that she can hear them even during the day. She begs you to please get them out before she goes crazy from the sounds they're making. The steps up to her attic are.... kind of rickety and broke, though.

Elizabeth greeted the poor woman and followed her to the base of the rickety stairway. After listening to her complaints Liz nodded and gave her a reassuring smile. "Don't worry ma'am, we'll get those Zubats taken care of." Cecylia, Raya and Damara nodded along with their trainer. Loki just flipped upside down and blew a raspberry at the woman, causing Liz to facepalm.
"Okay, I think you'll be sitting this one out Lok." The girl chided the ghost as she recalled him to his pokeball ignoring the sourface look he wore. She cleared her throat then nodded again to the homeowner and gave her a thumbs up. The lady didn't look entirely impressed but she left the girl to handle things.
Liz turned back to the old stairway and tested one of the first steps. It creaked eerily and threatened to collapse under the girl's weight. The ranger frowned then looked at Raya. "Mind hanging out down here for now? I'd rather not take the egg up these stairs just incase they give way." The girl requested telepathically of the lucario who gave her trainer a disapproving look. "Look, we'll be careful, and Zubat aren't really your forte. Cecylia should be able to handle things. Plus you'll just be downstairs if anything does happen to go awry. If I can help it, we won't get involved in a fight anyway."
Raya reluctantly sighed and nodded. She cradled the egg closer to her and watched the ranger, pikachu and rowlet carefully begin navigating their way up the staircase.
You manage to get up the stairs, and while they shook a little, they held. The attic looks dusty and dingy. There are a lot of boxes and things scattered about that would be easy to trip and fall on. Resting upside down at the very peak of the attic, however, are the Zubat. They haven't noticed you yet; perhaps this could be used to your advantage.

A minor success, they'd managed to reach the top of the stairs without incident, perhaps they were sturdier than Liz had first suspected. Still that was just one obstacle down, now the real challenge began. Cautiously Liz approached the attic door. She couldn't hear anything inside at the moment so perhaps the zubat were asleep? It was the middle of the day after all and she believed zubat were primarily nocturnal. She looked at Cecylia and Damara and raised a finger to her lips.
"If they're sleeping, let's try not to startle them." Stomping in and arousing a bunch of sleeping zubat was likely a bad idea, and she was hoping to avoid having to battle the zubat if possible. If she could persuade them to leave of their own accord that would be preferable. Cecylia and Damara nodded slowly, Damara still finding Liz's mental voice an odd sensation. Cecylia however was quiet used to hearing the girl's voice in her head and appreciated this unique means of seeing for the blind pikachu. Gently, Liz turned the door knob and tried to quietly push the door open, hoping not to make too much noise.
Downstairs, Raya waited, rather impatiently, with the egg keeping an ear cocked for any sound from upstairs, just in case her aid was required.
The door squeaks but only a little! The Zubat fidget and make a few noises but fall quiet again. You manage to navigate around quietly without much trouble to just directly under where they are. Now how will you get them?

Alright, things were going well, so far at least. Having managed to navigate the stairwell and enter the room with nary a sound, the trio were now faced with the the real dilemma: How on earth do they get these little guys out where they belong? First off it seemed the ranger figured they ought to see if they could figure out how they'd gotten in in the first place. If there was a window or hole in the wall or something that had allowed these guys in, perhaps they'd be able to coax them out the same way.
"Hey guys, let's see if we can figure out how the zubat got in here. Damara, look around for an opening of some kind and Cecylia, see if you can hear where the airflow's going in here." The girl instructed silently. She glanced sideways at the pikachu and added, "Also, if they happen to wake up and attack, be ready with a Thunder Shock, I'd like to just paralyze them if we have to get into it with them."
The girl briefly wondered if they should've brought a net, just in case. The desired outcome was to hopefully rouse the zubats gently and maybe talk them into exiting the way they'd come. But the girl wanted to be prepared if worse came to worse. Cecylia nodded and twitched an ear up toward the snoozing fliers, making a mental note of their location as she turned to the task of listening for any gaps in the attic. Damara quietly hopped around the room also keeping an eye out, the rowlet moving with the natural stealth of her kind.
Liz stood a few feet from the zubat not wanting to crowd them. She wasn't confident enough in her telepathic abilities to attempt connecting with the poisonous fliers on a mental level, though maybe she could sense their emotional state, if they were to begin to get agitated.
You find the hole! It was behind the water heater at one side of the attic and seems to be letting in a slow breeze. Perhaps if you moved the water heater a little bit, it would be more accessible to the Zubat. One thing you do sense form the Zubat is that they are relatively peaceful right now. Probably for the best you cam in early today.

Cecylia's keen hearing detected something in the corner. She chuu'd softly and indicated with a paw in the direction the sound was coming from. Damara silently glided over and twisted her flexible neck to get a better look. Liz picked up from their thoughts the rough outline of the water heater. She cautiously made her way over to the pair and crouched down to get a better look.
"Ah very nice you two." She mentally praised the both of them then carefully examined the position of the hole and water heater. It seemed like the space between the water heater and the hole got narrower the farther into the attic it was, making it much more difficult going out than coming in. It would've been a tight squeeze in the first place and Liz still wondered what caused the zubat to even bother coming in. So far they seemed at peace and Liz was hoping they'd stay that way.
The ranger frowned then looked at the two with her and gently motioned them to move back a bit. "Heads up now, I'm going to try moving this water heater a little and make the hole more accessible. Cecylia, this'll probably make some noise, be on your guard. It might be easiest to try and chase them toward the hole with a Thunder Shock. Damara, you'll need to be on your toes too, if Cecylia does need to use Thunder Shock you'll have to make sure the zubat are corralled toward the hole and don't try to move into other parts of the attic." Liz instructed briefly considering calling Raya in to assist, but at the moment the lucario wasn't required.
"Okay, steady now." She slipped her hands into the space between the hole and the water heater. Luckily it wasn't bolted to the floor thus she should simply be able to drag it forward a little. Actually managing that without disturbing the zubat would likely be difficult. Plus she was relying on her own strength and not on either of her pokemon. She wasn't in quite the same physical condition she'd been required to maintain whilst in the military so her strength had waned some. Still, slow, deliberate and steady movements ought to get the job done in time. They weren't in any rush.
A screeching sound reverberates through the area as the water heater is shifted, and a cry escapes from one of the Zubat-- then another and then another. Suddenly all three of them were flying around chaotically bumping into the ceiling and boxes alike. They weren't attacking but seemed very lost, confused, and stressed.

Ah that sound! It made them all cringe and the inevitable happened. All the zubat awoke in a startled state and began flying haphazardly about the attic. Fortunately they weren't actually attacking Liz or her partners. The ranger could sense their state of confusion and stress then paused a moment. She noted Cecylia ready to carry out her prior commands, sparks flicking readily from her cheeks, but gently placed a hand on the pikachu's head and shook her head at Damara, who'd also been gearing up to intervene.
"Wait a moment, they're only scared and confused from being startled awake. Let see if they'll settle down. Only retaliate if they strike first okay?" Liz informed them. Carefully she moved to one side of the hole not wanting to be blocking their exit if they decided to attempt fleeing out the new exit they'd created. Liz, Cecylia and Damara watched the zubat cautiously hoping they'd calm on their own. If so, Liz could likely just show them how to get out on their own. Of course it was possible they'd notice the trio there and correctly determine that it was their fault they'd been so abruptly awoken. Hence why Cecylia was tracking their every wingbeat with her highly sensitive ears.
One of the Zubat manages to use its echolocation to sense the hole and went flying towards it immediately escaping out into the wilds beyond. The other two continued to flutter and cry. One of them settled back down folding up and hanging upside down again. The second went bumping into item after item before hitting the ground and fluttering in pain.

The ranger watched as one of the zubats managed to detect the hole and swiftly darted outside. She grinned, that was one down, now for the other two. She noted the one who returned to hanging from the ceiling seeming much calmer now. She looked at Damara and motioned to the calmer zubat.
"Hey Damara, think you could fly up there and see if you can show that zubat the way out?" She didn't want it trying to go back to sleep just yet and Damara ought to be able to guide the zubat to the hole. However, Damara hesitated now looking rather shy. She hooted softly and peered up at the zubat. Meeting new pokemon or people was a rather intimidating experience for the timid rowlet. Liz gave her a gentle smile then looked at Cecylia. "Well that's okay Damara, if you don't want to I'm sure Cecylia can do it."
The pikachu chuu'd at the girl in affirmation but Damara shook her head and sucked in a deep breath. Liz raised a brow at the rowlet and gave a small smirk. Damara gave a pump of her wings and drifted over to the zubat. Meanwhile, Liz and Cecylia had noticed the other zubat that seemed to have had a hard landing. "Uh oh, I think that one might've hurt itself in its confusion. Let's see..."
The ranger pulled an oran berry from her pocket, just in case it was needed, then knelt down beside the fallen zubat. "Hey there little guy, easy now, are you okay?" She spoke aloud, keeping her voice low and gentle. Cecylia stood at Liz's knee watching the poor zubat and followed her trainer's lead in offering a soft pika in a comforting tone.
The Zubat at the ceiling immediately fidgets away from the Damara and makes an ear splitting cry in warning. It doesn't attack just yet but it's clear it's about to. The one on the floor, meanwhile, gives a cry of pain and flutters around a little before managing to right itself and flapping its wings incessantly.

Damara halted once again growing shy when the other zubat pulled away from her. She hooted apologetically not wanting to upset him though she was rather anxious about trying to do anything more right now. The owl found a nearby standing mirror to perch on below the bat and simply watched it for now. She figured she'd just wait for Liz to finish dealing with the injured one then the ranger could come help her with this one.
"Hey easy there Zubat, easy." Liz said in a quiet tone as she cautiously set the oran berry beside it. "Here Zubat, this oran berry should help you feel better." She stated softly as she reached out to gently place a hand on the zubat's small head and attempt to calm it while she tried to determine if it'd sustained any serious injury.
Cecylia moved in a little closer, offering her own soothing sounds of comfort. Through her connection with Liz the pikachu got a fuzzy sort of image from Liz's viewpoint of the zubat so she had some idea of what was in front of her beyond just what her hearing and sense of smell told her. The pikachu too was concerned that the zubat had hurt itself when it fell and hoped it would be okay.
The Zubat settles again upside down as the owl leaves it alone. The one on the ground is calmed by your psychic prowess and ranger nature and profession. It still seems a little shaky and gobbles up the berry pretty quickly before fluttering. As it gets up into the air again, it makes a loud call causing the other one to startle up above again. Better do something quick or you'll have them both panicking again.

"There that's better." Liz stated softly as the zubat quickly downed the oran berry and took back to the air. Of course now it seemed the zubat was ready to cause more of a ruckus and disturb the hanging bat. Liz frowned then looked between Cecylia and Damara.
"Okay, we're going to try to wrangle them to the hole. Damara slip around behind the hanging zubat. Cecylia cover the entryway there and throw up a Thunder Shock if they head that way. I'll try to guide them toward the hole." The girl instructed as she took up position beside the hole. Like Cecylia, zubat relied on sound to navigate, so maybe it would just be as simple as calling the zubat to the hole. One had managed to find it on its own, thus perhaps the others just needed to be alerted to its presence.
"Hey Zubat! Over here, this is the way out guys, right over here." Liz made a fist and knocked on the wall next to the hole to create the sound waves to bounce off the hole and reverberate back to the zubat to help give them a better grasp of the hole's location. This was a similar technique she used when first teaching Cecylia to navigate with her ears rather than her eyes.
Of course there was always the possibility of the zubat not wanting to leave. The attic was dark, warm and quiet, plus it was still daytime outside, at least late afternoon. If this particular tactic didn't work, Liz would likely have to bring Raya in to help out. Loki would only make things worse and Ayla likely wouldn't even fit in the attic.
The knocking sound had the Zubat briefly pausing and calling out to sense what was around. Unfortunately one of them released a Supersonic that bounded off the walls of the closed space and would possibly confuse everyone (including the other Zubat) that was there.

"Uh oh, quick cover your ears!" Liz called as she threw her hands over her own ears. She was too late in alerting her two however. The sudden shrill sound nearly physically hurt Cecylia's delicate hearing and the pikachu cried in pain then began stumbling around by the doorway. Damara was hit as well and the rowlet began flying in random directions. Liz grimaced, what had started off well enough was quickly turning sour. She carefully staggered over to Cecylia and picked the pikachu up once the supersonic had faded. The damage was done however. Liz closed her eyes a moment to steady herself. The important thing was to remain calm. In time Cecylia and Damara would recover their wits, but it was probably time to call in some backup.
"Raya, perhaps you ought to join us after all." The girl focused on the lucario down below momentarily breaking her connection to Damara and Cecylia so she could better focus her mind on the steel jackal. She could sense the familiar presence of the lucario's mind, though there seemed to be another, unfamiliar presence with her, and the girl sighed softly. While she tried to maintain a strong connection to all her pokemon, Raya was one of her closest pokemon companions, connecting with her was generally easier than most.
Soft footfalls could be heard on the stairs as the lucario gracefully maneuvered up the rickety staircase. The ranger really ought not to have worried about the steel jackal making her way safely up them. However the jackal was not alone and carried in her arms, not the egg from before, but instead a tiny black and red kitten. Liz blinked as she hadn't seen a litten before. But now wasn't exactly the best time to be greeting a new team member.
The ranger recalled Damara then scooped up Cecylia and carefully too the tiny litten from Raya. He was sound asleep and hardly reacted when he changed hands. Liz grinned in spite of herself then looked to Raya. The girl was running out of ideas, these two zubat were being especially stubborn. "See if you can perhaps navigate them over to the hole, or at least the one that's not confused now." She pursed her lips watching the pair of poisonous fliers thoughtfully and remained by the entrance to leave them plenty of room to get to the hole without interference.
Perhaps she was being a little too hands off. She very well could have Raya rush one of the bats, grab it by the wing and chuck it through the hole or she could've had Cecylia Thunderbolt their butts as soon as she'd entered the room. But the girl much preferred trying the nice route first before resorting to more forceful measures.
Stubborn as they come, the Zubat still refuse to be lead into the hole. The confused one begins slamming around in the attic, hitting walls and making a mess, where-as the other one seemed to be getting more and more scared by the second, and zipped to the other side of the small attic,
