Personality For the most part, Akane is a take no prisoners, no nonsense kind of girl. She is bold, brash, and in your face - when she isn't being a sulky wallflower off in a corner somewhere. At the very least, however, she isn't afraid to call a spade a spade - and if it happens to be an ugly spade, she'll let you know that, too. Sarcasm and blunt sass are the staples of her diet, and she is probably a bit less enthusiastic about this whole pokemon thing than she should be. Oh, she's got general facts and identification down pat, and if you want to know the mechanics and biology behind certain behaviors, she can rattle it off with the best of them. But she's not really 'down' with the cuddling and snuggling and happy praise aspect of actually interaction with pokemon - she just doesn't see the point. Also, she hates children, and firmly believes that any parent who lets their pre-teen go off into the woods with only an electric dormouse for protection should be charged with criminal neglect. To simplify the contradiction that is Akane's personality, she largely just lacks passion. She is generally content to go with the flow - unless the flow is bullshit. She's usually willing to give things the old college try, but she feels no shame in walking away from an immovable obstacle, and will actively eschew any activity that she considers to be less than productive. Though no stranger to hard work, and actually quite dedicated if she can just be convinced of something's value, it can take her a while to set aside her innate prejudices enough to actually strive for something. She's not social, and usually comes off as quite abrasive - but once she's decided that she likes something (or someone), she'll set the world on fire to protect them. She values strength and intelligence - she just doesn't give a damn about social mores or politicking. She wields her tongue like a bladed lash, and the best one can hope for is general indifference on her part. The alternative is all too often active derision - and no one wants to be on the recieving end of her cold, burning temper. History Akane is the only daughter of Johto-based Blackbelt Saito Aragaki and Lab Assistant Fern Senri. Married young, her parents relocated to Fern's hometown of New Bark. New Bark Town was where Akane grew up beneath her parents' rigorous training regime. When she wasn't studying karate with her father, she was tagging along at her mother's heels in the lab. Always a brash, bold girl in her manners and speech, Akane was nevertheless somewhat sheltered in her upbringing. She eschewed friends for the sake of training and research, much too busy learning and working to play silly games with the other children her age. Though she was around pokemon on a day to day basis, neither of her parents were trainers in their own right, so most of Akane's interactions with pokemon were purely clinical. Akane watched young kids like herself go in and out of the lab regularly, eager to meet their new partners and start their own journeys. Often, pokemon didn't last long enough at the lab for her to develop a relationship with them one way or another, and she never understood the appeal of trainer life. Wandering around aimlessly, forced to sleep outdoors, fighting other trainers for money? Only the last bit ever really appealed to her - though she'd honestly much rather use her fists than rely on a pokemon. As she grew older, her mother pushed her into a more formal education, which Akane embraced only for lack of anything better to do. Graduate of the local pokemon school with top marks, she was accepted as a research intern at the New Bark Lab, where she easily fell back into her old routine. She wasn't unhappy with her lot in life, exactly, but it always felt as though she were missing something - and the quiet, sedentary life of a lab assistant didn't quite scratch the itch. Even when the Ultra Beast phenomenon occurred, she was barely affected; though the disaster did some damage to the town and lab, no one (that she actively cared about) was hurt. Trouble started when she was promoted to full Lab Assistant when her mother retired, and Akane was forced to interact with the hopeful young trainers who came to start their pokemon journeys. Akane's abraisive attitude - and the dubious merit of any idiot ten year old who thought they were competent enough to take a pokemon out into the wilds on their own - quickly became apparent. After only a few months in her new position - and a very serious talk between her parents and the resident professor - Akane was asked to leave the lab. No one ever really said she was fired, but the sentiment was understood. A few tense days later, Saito and Fern shipped Akane off to Arciel with nothing but the clothes on her back and a farewell present from her previous coworkers (who were all too happy to see her go) in the form of a mystery pokemon egg. Apparently, they believed that exposure therapy would be the best solution to her lackluster attitude towards pokemon. Surely if she became a trainer herself, she'd learn to empathize with other the other young aspirants. Right? .....Right?! Goals Short Term - Find her passion. Whatever that means. Short Term - Hatch this stupid egg. Long term - Become a Gym Leader. (OOC for now)

Akane is a study in contradictions. With a round baby face and wide, dark eyes, she will always look younger than she actually is - though this innocent impression is usually ruined by the habitual scowl and omnipresent glare that colors her resting expressions. In fact, if she could just manage to train her features to a more pleasant default, she'd be easily mistaken as the innocent "girl next door" type. Indeed, her rare smiles give the impression of someone far sweeter, and far softer, than Akane could ever hope to be - though she's quite good at faking it, if she has to. Her long, dark hair is largely left free to fall to the small of her back, and though it is painfully, gloriously straight, it is forever bereft of product. She never wears makeup, though she hardly needs to; her pale skin is offset by her deep brown eyes and darker lashes, and the effect is striking - much to Akane's dismay. She wears relatively simple clothing, largely favoring function over fashion, and she eschews bright colors and pastels entirely. Her typical outfit consists of a cropped, padded leather zip-up vest with shiny silver hardware, under which she wears a basic grey or white crop top. Black leather shorts extend down to her knees, sillhouetted by an ankle length faux skirt to the rear. When its too hot for all the leather, she ditches the vest and the faux skirt, instead opting for simple suspenders over her monochrome base layer. Regardless of the weather, she favors wearing flexible leather gloves in either red or black, with comfortable high-top shoes to match. Her only accessories to speak of otherwise are her simple silver drop earrings, servicable black canvas supply bag, and the crimson ribbon tied around her left forearm, which she occasionally uses to tie back her hair. Aura A pulsing, deep maroon orb that surrounds her body, the edges rigidly defined and flickering in time with her heartbeat. Occasionally the orb's surface gleams with a pearlescent silver sheen.
