Touma Shinjo
Age 25 Birthday May 13th, 1994 Gender Male Pronouns He/Him Orientation Pansexual Faction Citizen Class Nurse Rank Nursing Student Occupation N/A Hometown Snowpoint City, Sinnoh Current Residence Travelling | Tell us a little about yourself. How would you describe yourself? "This is always the hardest part, isn't it?" He laughs behind a hand, but it's not unkind. "I have a lot of siblings, all of which are grown up enough not to need their big brother anymore, so I've been travelling for about a year now. My family is originally from Snowpoint -- that's in Sinnoh -- and it's so incredibly cold there, I was starting to wonder if all the other regions were like that. I suppose you could say I'm curious? I'd like to think I'm dependable, and helpful, but I think we all like to think that of ourselves at some point or another, right?" Touma beams a warm smile, shifting into a more comfortable position. "I enjoy meeting people, as well. Having travelled for so long, you learn that everyone has an interesting story to tell. If you'd like, once this is over you could share a few stories with me?" Is he teasing? Is he serious? It's a little hard to tell. The playful wink he adds at the end of his invitation makes it even harder. Why are you interested in the class you've chosen? The question bring a contemplative look to his face and he drums his fingers over his chin. After a pause, he speaks. "Because I'm the eldest, I've spent most of my life looking after my siblings and doctoring them up, so I guess you could say I have a natural inclination for 'patching up boo-boos'." A wistful look steals over his features. "In my travels I've borne witness to the kindness of strangers, and I've even been graciously helped by those same people when I didn't have a roof over my head or food to eat. I'd like to repay the favor in any way I can. Besides that, I think I remember someone saying 'you don't need a reason to help people', and I think that statement is very true." Why are you interested in training in Arciel? Why not another region? "Saying it's just another stop on the road sounds a bit rude, doesn't it?" Touma cracks a grin, and shakes his head. "Truthfully... I've never been out this far before. Arciel is an entirely new area for me, and I'm a little excited by all the new faces I'm going to meet and see. As I said before... I'm kind of indebted to the kindness of people. I'd like to help out in any way I can. With all the advertising and the tourists stopping here, I'd like to think I'm not unwanted." What do you consider your best attributes? They can be physical, mental, social, or anything else. "Hmmm...." His blue eyes drift upward, searching for answers in the ceiling. "I think my emphathy's pretty good. I'm used to looking after people, so it's sort of second nature by now." His gaze returns to the interviewer, and he gives a warm smile. "And I do like meeting new people. I guess you could say I'm a sociable creature by nature, which ... actually, I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing. Good, I'd hope!" Touma presses a hand to his shoulder, stretching out that arm comfortably. "With all the travelling I've done, I'm in pretty great shape - I feel like you'd have to be, since some of the routes are pretty taxing on the body. And don't even get me started on outrunning Pokemon!" He laughs at the memory. "Sometimes you're just fast enough, other times you're not. You have to be sturdy enough to take a beating, so I think that's definitely one of my best attributes, for sure." What do you consider your worst attributes? Be honest, now! "Despite my experience with people, I'm not exactly the best at reading the room. So, if someone's down in the dumps for example, that I can deal with easily enough. But if they're upset or angry, I don't really know what all I can do to help. And sometimes what I do end up doing isn't exactly what they want, and it makes the situation even worse." Folding his arms over his chest, Touma leans back in his chair before his expression lights up. "Oh -- and stubborn. I'm apparently really stubborn and overbearing." A pause, and he adds, sheepish, "And when I get frustrated, I tend to stay like that for a while. But it doesn't happen often, or at least... it hasn't happened for a long while." He lets out a long exhale, considering, and then adds, even more sheepishly. "I'm also not so good with romance. I suppose it's because I try to help everyone, but I've found myself in a lot of awkward situations because of it. I've made a few people cry, but I think they understand in the end." Another pause. "... or at least, I hope they did." What was your childhood like? How was school? "It's as normal as you'd expect. Growing up, you know, you see all these great people on TV and want to be like them. I actually wanted to be a gym trainer in Kanto when I was younger - Cerulean City, I think. I idolized Misty when I was little, but I think a lot of people in my grade did. It was my dream to hang around the gym and swim all day, maybe fight a few trainers or two and get her to praise me. Stuff like that. It would have been nice to be away from all the snow," Touma adds, tone wistful with memories. "But alas, it was not to be. My grades weren't amazing, but they weren't bad, either, unless you count 'terribly average' in that scale." How is your relationship with your family? "Oh, it's great. I visit when I can, but only with souvenirs. It's sort of an unspoken rule. I have eight younger siblings, two boys and six girls. A few of them have been planning out their pokemon journeys, even though they're far too young for that right now. They're not going to be travelling as far out as here, but they were considering other regions close to home. I guess they've all got the wanderlust bug from their big brother. Mom and Dad aren't really too keen, but they're incredibly supportive of all of us. It's probably how I'm still able to keep on going." What do you like to do for fun? "Hmm...." He folds his arms over his chest, fingers drumming on his arm. "I like to try and draw in my spare time. I'm not particularly good at it, but I don't own a camera anymore so it's a good way to remember things from my trip. One sec," Touma adds, shifting in his seat so he can pull something out of his jeans pocket. Unfolding it, it's plain to see it's a rather worn looking wallet, filled with pictures of smiling children with blond hair and blue eyes. He extracts a folded up piece of paper and opens it carefully, revealing a mess of smudged ink and pencil scratches. "This is a --- wait, hang on." The paper is brought an inch away from his face and there's a long pause. "... Ah. No, this was supposed to be a map. I think--" He turns it over sideways, then upside down. There's another pause. "I--- Hm." "Well -- aside from that," Touma continues, putting his things away. "I think it's pretty obvious that I like meeting people. And travelling, but that's pretty much a given at this point, right?" What are your feelings on romance? "Oh boy." Whatever comfortable pose he'd been in before instantly becomes awkward, and his gaze again drifts up to the ceiling as though the answers are written there. Really though, he's thinking, trying his best to word things that don't sound completely awful. "I've never had a girlfriend, so I don't really have many feelings on it. Or boyfriend, I guess. I don't know, I'm not particularly good with these kinds of things. I've teased people, because I think it's really cute when they get flustered, but I know that sort of thing can be taken the wrong way, and I feel like I've hurt people more often than not." His gaze returns to the interviewer, and for the first time he actually looks a little regretful. "With how I've lived my life up till now, I don't think it'd be fair to any potential partner of mine to have to deal with it; when people ask for kisses, I don't really turn them down, you know? Among other things." He takes a moment to cough into his hand. "That sounds bad, doesn't it? I don't think I'd be very good for a relationship. But I'm decent enough at taking care of people, and that's what's important, right?" What are your goals for the future? Short-term and long-term. "I actually want to take a break from travelling so much and just settle here for a bit. But to do that I expect I need a fair bit of money, a steady job, rapport with people, a place to live..." Touma counts off his fingers as he lists each item. "Moving here would be nice, but I don't think my family could handle it right now. Ahh, even thinking about it makes me a little sad. I'd like to think my being away from home so much would soften the blow, but it's still hard." His eyes light up as he adds, "Oh-- and long-term is to definitely work in a Poke Center. I'd always been fascinated by how patient and kind the nurses are, and you really do meet all sorts of people and Pokemon coming in through those doors. I've seen a trainer bring in his pokemon once, back home - it was a Tauros, I think - in really bad shape. I thought it wasn't going to make it, but it only took a day or two before it was up and raring to go. I remember seeing the nurses working tirelessly to tend to it, and the trainer wouldn't leave for a minute, either, and that -- I thought that was just amazing. It really makes you appreciate the dedication and devotion to the job, and the miracles they can work there. I'd like to do something like that." If you could be a Pokemon, what species or typing would you choose and why? "Flying." The answer is immediate. "It would be easier to visit my family that way." A pause as he considers. "Well -- actually, if I was a Pokemon would my family even know it was me? Or would I be some weird hybrid human-Pokemon thing? Would I even be able to talk? Or remember them? Would they be birds too? I feel like there's more that needs to be answered..." What do Pokemon mean to you? "I've never actually had a Pokemon before," Touma confesses, looking sheepish. "Not-- owned one of my own, which feels a little weird to say. I've worked with them, you know, temporarily, and my parents have a Mr. Mime to help out with yardwork and chores growing up. Nine kids is a lot, after all, especially when they're not grown enough to do things on their own. All my interactions have been nothing but pleasant." A pause. "Well, almost pleasant. Sometimes you wander a little too close to Mama's nest, and it hurts." The memory has him cracking a grin, but he shakes it off before proceeding. "I think Pokemon and people have the potential to create something really beautiful working together. It feels like they make each other stronger, lift each other up to become better people through a mutual partnership. I saw it a few years back, when... you know, when the Ultra Beasts attacked. Seeing the Legendaries come out of hiding and defend and protect the world, and us ... it really makes you feel the bond between human and Pokemon and appreciate them all the more. They saved my family, every single one of them, and for that I'm eternally grateful. I'd like to help them out as much as I can, which is why I'm here." Anything else you'd like to tell us about before you go? After a considerate pause, the blond shakes his head. "I hope I was able to give you all the answers you needed." The smile he flashes is warm, welcoming, but he doesn't say much else on the subject before standing. "Thank you for your time today - ah, rather, thank you for having me. I've not talked this much about myself in a long time, so it feels a little embarrassing. Thank you!" |
Appearance
Height 5'10" / 177cm Build Athletically slim, lean Hair Color Blond Eye Color Light blue | At first glance, you wouldn't think Touma to have grown up in a city full of perpetual snow. Months of travelling have left him with a healthy complexion, and his blond hair is bright and golden, falling messily over bright blue eyes. He carries himself with an air of comfortable confidence, but despite his height he's not overbearing or intimidating. His body is athletically slim, with just the right touches of muscle here and there, more on the side of lean musculature than anything. When speaking with others he maintains a respectable distance, and can be found greeting people with an easy, unassuming smile. There are no piercings in his ears, and no scars on his face at first glance, but if one were to look at his hands they would see a few puncture wounds as though from teeth or beak, and calluses on both palms. Touma's manner of dress is what one would normally expect a hitchhiker around his age to wear, minus the backpack. Comfortable, slim jeans, a loose button-up shirt, and walking shoes. He doesn't carry much, but he hasn't really wanted for much either during his travels. Aura If one were to look at his aura they would find a multicolored myriad of colors, but primarily it's a deep, calming blue rippling into a warm, subdued red and all the colors in between - not unlike the Aurora Borealis, if one wanted to compare it to real-world objects. It doesn't jump around much and stays in one spot, even if he's talking to someone particularly attractive. It's rather subdued, not particularly exciting, but colorful nonetheless and concentrated over his body. |

He'll probably try and mother hen whoever he comes across, especially if they're younger than him/remind him of his siblings. He's especially drawn to those that seem to have a hard life, and his "fix-it" mentality is strong with people suffering hardships. He is both stubborn and a pushover, unable to leave someone alone who truly needs help and also unwilling to say no to people when they ask things of him, no matter what it might be. While not quite a people-pleaser, making sure people are happy and content is something he strives for in his interactions with everyone he meets. Pokemon
