After searching out the nearby swarm of Toxel, Elizabeth and co were now ready to proceed with the next leg of their journey. Over the holidays Liz had received her next batch of pokemon through customs and was now joined by Haldor the steelix and Lavender the lapras. Lavender of course would have to spend the trip in her pokeball.

Land travel wasn't entirely suitable for the icy water dino and there was no clear line of sight to the bay. The landscape varied a bit more here than the previous route and it seemed like many of the citizens or either Cedar or Bass dwelled in homes along the route.

For this leg of the trip, Liz thought it would be fun for a bit of steelix riding. Ayla was of course free to fly alongside them as she pleased. Raya and Cecylia naturally rode alongside Liz atop Haldor's head. Being astride the steel serpent was quite the thrill. It was almost like flying being so high up yet one could still feel the ground in the steelix's movements.

Liz had always enjoyed riding pokemon ever since she was a child. She wasn't however a bronco rider or racer, Liz loved riding for the sense of freedom and for the bond one developed when trusting a pokemon to carry you safely to your destination. Riding with pokemon for her was for the relationship and the sense of being one with her teammates.

She of course had an easier time of developing such a bond due to her psychic connection to her pokemon as well, but this had been one of the primary ways she'd connected with her pokemon before her psychic training.

Now riding atop a steelix down the route was could perhaps be seen as a little audacious. Haldor was impressive and though average in size as far as a steelix goes, he was on the bigger side of average. Liz wanted to let the steel snake have a bit of freedom after being cooped up so long and despite their training session that morning she could sense the steelix was still full of energy.

They were of course careful to avoid damaging any of the route or running anyone over, it wouldn't do to have one of the league rangers pulverizing pedestrians in their path. Travel upon the steel serpent would likely go quickly even when he was moving with care.

Along the shoreline just off the route Liz could make out an octillery from her vantage point atop the steelix. The girl patted the steel snake and he slowed his roll so she could direct the others toward the octopus.

"Think you and Ayla want to get some training in Cee?" The girl suggested to the pikachu on her shoulder. Cecylia bobbed her head and Ayla lowered her bulk alongside Haldor's head. Cecylia flicked an ear toward the tropius then turned and jumped onto the grass flier's head.

Ayla pumped her quad wings and soared over to the spot of sand the octillery occupied. The red squid seemed slightly put off by the tropius's presence and fired off a warning octazooka in their direction. Ayla carefully avoided the strike and stopped to hover overhead. Cecylia pricked her ears, picking up the octillery's location from her movements in the sand.

"Looks like she doesn't like you getting so close. See if you can hit it with a Thunderbolt Cee. Back her up Ayla, but let's see if she can take it down on her own." The girl instructed as she watched the battle from her vantage point. Cecylia took a moment to listen, following the octillery's movements before leaping upward off Ayla's back and releasing a powerful bolt of electrical energy. The octillery scrambled in the sand to avoid the strike but the thunderous bolt zigzaged through the air and struck true.

Octillery was knocked back looking quite singed but still concious. She momentarily struggled to regain her footing and angrily waved a tentacle up at the electric mouse. The squid gathered herself then fired off a nasty looking gunk shot up at the airborne pikachu.

Ayla swooped under Cecylia and caught the pikachu up out of the way of the poisonous glob. Octillery fumed and slammed her tentacles on the ground. Liz smirked a little. "Nice maneuver there Ayla. Okay Cee, try Spark."

Electrical energy gathered around the pikachu as she readied the spark. The pikachu located her target once more then leaped off the tropius and allowed gravity to carry her down and slammed into the octillery. She sprang back and landed in the sand listening for the octillery's retaliation. It however never came as octillery slumped into the sand unconscious. Cecylia nodded to herself and Ayla dropped down to pick her up. Once the pikachu was secured, Ayla doubled back to Liz.

"Well done there girl." The ranger chuckled as she extended an arm for Cecylia to hop to. The pikachu resumed her position on the girl's shoulder and chuu'd in contentment. Liz grinned and patted Haldor indicating the steelix could continue onward.

Haldor continued along at a steady pace easily traversing the route in record time. The steel serpent's presence however didn't seem to be appreciated by some. Down below a furret appeared and was angrily chittering and shaking a paw at Liz and her group. The ranger was unsure if they'd disturbed a nest or something or if the furret was just having a bad day. However the normal type seemed to be looking for a fight and wouldn't get out of Haldor's path. One could of course simply run the overgrown rodent over but that seemed a bit harsh.

Before Liz could even glance in her direction, Raya stepped off the steelix's head, flipped mid air and landed feet spread apart, back knee bent and one fist on the ground. Liz shook her head and smirked. "Show off." She directed at the lucario who huffed then steadied her gaze on the furret. The critter narrowed his eyes and sized Raya up. The steel jackal raised a brow and held the furret's gaze.

The critter scowled then suddenly charged forward moving with incredible speed in a Quick Attack. Raya quickly raised her arms in a cross pattern across her chest as Furret slammed into the lucario barely moving her as she rapidly retaliated. The lucario moved with precision and brought her already crossed arms forward in a powerful Cross Chop.

The furret was flung backward and rolled end over end. The vicious fighting attack had done its job and rendered the furret unconscious instantly. Liz pursed her lips and raised a brow glancing down at Raya. "Think that might've been a little overkill there?" She inquired but wore a grin. Raya shrugged and easily clambored back up to the steelix's head. The girl paused a moment to eye the furret. It was unconscious but not seriously injured. 

The ranger gave a small nod and patted Haldor. "Alright big guy, let's keep moving, just be careful not to squish furret there." The girl instructed as Haldor resumed their forward progress.

Haldor was rapidly approaching the halfway point of the route. Things had been progressing well so far, nothing too exciting. Liz carefully got to her feet and stood atop Haldor's head. The steel snake rumbled picking up on what the girl was up to. Raya smirked and immidated her trainer. Liz grinned and winked at the lucario as Cecylia gripped the ranger's collar a little tighter.

Haldor picked up the pace a little and even the wind got in on the fun as it began to pick up and blasted Liz full in the face. The girl laughed and wobbled a little but stepped deeper into her stance. She squared up her feet and rode the steelix like a surfer as they practically flew down the route. Ayla dropped down to fly alongside Haldor at eye level racing the steel snake.

It was a neck in neck race and Liz let out a whoop as they sped passed the halfway marker. No one attempted to impede their path and luckily there didn't seem to be too many people out at the moment. With the wind and the chill Liz wasn't too surprised at the lack of pedestrians. Though somewhere off to the side of things they passed a bibarel that was deep asleep and completely unaware of their presence.

"Steady on Haldor!" The girl chuckled as she encouraged the steelix onward. They'd nearly cleared the route now and it shouldn't be too much longer to Bass. She wouldn't mind facing a few more challengers along the way to continue training for the Bass water gym. However, it was fun just steel surfing across the earth.

The sky had slowly grown dark during their trip and the temperature had dropped even more. From above a light falling of snow had begun and the steelix slowed his pace as the group all watched the snow silently fall. Liz settled back down atop Haldor's head as did Raya who pressed in close to her trainer. One drawback to riding atop a giant steel snake was the distinct lack of warmth. Being made of steel and earth, Haldor wasn't the warmest of pokemon. Even Ayla had grounded herself and was now walking along beside the base of the steel serpent.

"Now this is the sort of weather Lavender would appreciate." Liz joked and patted the pokeball containing the purple lapras. Their focus was soon drawn to a raticate that was scrambling around on the ground. It seemed like the large rodent didn't much care for the snow. The raticate hissed up at the group and darted away into the brush. Seems like it wasn't in the mood to mess with the large steelix or the rest of Liz's team.

The ranger blinked then shook her head. "Yea, this weather isn't for everyone." She chuckled as Haldor resumed his progress. The girl sat back and sighed, shouldn't be long now. Cecylia cooed and snuggled deeper into her hood, the pikachu the only one completely protected from the fresh snow. Their progress was slightly hampered by the snow but the group weren't planning to stop anytime soon. Bass city awaited them and that meant the water gym. Of course whether they were ready for it or not remained to be seen.

Liz pulled her parka around herself more tightly. The snow was piling up now and Haldor was beginning to leave a nice long trail behind them. The girl sighed and closed her eyes for a moment. Suddenly Haldor came to a complete stop and gumbled in irritation. Liz blinked then peered over the side of the steel snake.

Below an odd little black and pink thing squirmed about, stuck between the steel snake's metalix segments. It was apparent the critter was quite agitated by his predicament. The ranger blinked then turned and carefully slid down the steelix's back and jumped from his lower half down to the ground. 

"Huh, wonder what sort of pokemon this is." The ranger hadn't seen a pyukumuku before and she gave the critter a quick scan of her pokedex. "Pyukumuku? Huh, funny little thing. Well let's see if we can get it out of there."

Liz reached out to grab hold of the pyukumuku when suddenly the white fist like appendage shot forward and caught her in the shoulder causing her to nearly fall backward. Ayla however had joined her to investigate and provided a support for the ranger to fall into. It looked like the odd sea cucumber wasn't about to let them touch him.

The brunette rubbed her shoulder then scratched her neck as she tried to figure out how to dislodge the angry pyukumuku. She pursed her lips then looked at Ayla for a moment before shaking her head and reaching up to pat Cecylia. "Think you can Thunderbolt it Cee? Looks like we'll have to render it unconcious to pull it loose. It seems to know Counter but that won't work against Thunderbolt, plus you won't hurt Haldor since he's immune to electric attacks."

Cecylia didn't really need to know the girl's reasoning but Liz always liked for her pokemon to be fully informed as to her actions. They trusted her to make good decisions after all, in battle and in life. The pikachu flicked an ear and hopped off Liz's shoulder onto the steelix. Cecylia paused a moment listening for the still struggling pyukumuku then released a powerful Thunderbolt. Pyukumuku thrashed against Haldor and resorted to using Tickle against the steel snake.

Haldor began shaking and threw Cecylia off and back into Liz. The girl fortunately caught the pikachu who gave an annoyed pika. The ranger chuckled then crunched some snow under her foot. Cecylia righted herself and jumped onto the snowy earth alongside her trainer. Once more she released a final burst of electricity at the pyukumuku.

The sea cucumber shuddered then fell unconscious. Cecylia gave a soft chuu then sighed as she crawled through the snow and clambered back up to her position on Liz's shoulder. The ranger now reached out and managed to yank the pyukumuku out from the crack he'd gotten himself wedged into. Liz set him on the beach side of the route so hopefully he'd find his way back to water once he woke up.

Haldor lowered his head and Raya assisted Liz on climbing back on the steelix's head. They settled in once more for the last quarter of the route.

Bass city was in sight, though it had been for little while now, it was after all a decent sized city. The group were relieved to nearly be finished with their journey but unfortunately it seemed like their progress would once more be impeded.

Rising up out of the freshly fallen snow were three odd looking... corsola? Liz frowned and leaned forward to get a better look. One of the three kind of looked like a corsola but it was very odd. The creature beside it resembled the corsola but was much taller than corsola and almost looked like the coral pokemon was having an out of body experience. Another of the same sort towered over the other two and was looking quite murderous.

"What on earth is that?" Liz wondered aloud as she glanced at Raya though not really expecting the lucario to know. Raya of course shrugged her shoulders, she'd never seen anything like it either. The ranger checked with the pokedex then frowned. "It is a Corsola and Cursola? Ghost types... oh, that's rather sad."

The girl's gray eyes softened as she gazed down at the trio. All seemed rather irritated for some reason and were blocking their way. The ranger wondered if perhaps they'd disturbed something of theirs... perhaps their graves? Liz looked to Ayla who flew over and allowed the girl to hop over to the grass flier. The tropius set the ranger down on the ground alongside the steelix.

"Doubt we'll be able to talk them down, they look pretty pissed." The girl reached for Lavender's pokeball and released the lapras onto the snow. Lavenered squealed in delight and happily flicked snow into the air. The girl smirked a little at the icy water type then looked back to the trio blocking their path.

"Cee, here why don't you have a Mago berry to get your energy back up?" The ranger instructed as she offered the pikachu one of the odd pink curved berries. Out of them all only Haldor knew a dark type move. Liz frowned a little, seemed like that'd be a good option to teach Raya next. However if they were careful they ought to be able to manage these three.

"Alright then let's start with a plan of action. Lavender'll focus on the corsola, Raya will focus on the smaller cursola and Haldor you'll handle the boss." However as she laid things out the boss cursola was already attacking. All three moved in unison, chanting at the trio that faced them. A dark cloud gathered around Liz and her trio and the ranger frowned, watching the corsola and cursola damage their own selves and Curse her teammates.

The huge cursola in the middle wasn't finished however and chanted once more, his eyes flashing as he gazed at the group. The trio shuddered as a sense of foreboding loomed over them their Destiny Bond to the 'boss'. Liz narrowed her eyes, these ghosts certainly weren't playing fair.

"Alright, two can play that game." Liz gritted her teeth then looked at Haldor. The steelix raised his head to the sky and roared. Suddenly all the snow around them was caught up into the strong breeze as was the sand from along the nearby shoreline. It all whirled together into an intense Sandstorm that buffeted the whole group. Raya and Haldor didn't even noticed the course sand though Lavender looked rather uncomfortable. Ayla and Cecylia stayed back, the tropius taking shelter with Liz and Cecylia behind the steelix.

"Hang in there girl." The ranger assured the purple lapras as she determined their next course of action. "Raya, Swords Dance and Lavender, Ice Beam!" Both pokemon reacted quickly, Raya summoning the spectral swords while Lavender took aim at the corsola and released the ice beam.

Corsola attempted to avoid the incoming Ice Beam but was unable to get out of the way fast enough. The powerful blast of ice slammed into the ghost but didn't manage to freeze her in place. Lavender winced as the curse gripped her and the sandstorm buffeted her. Raya and Haldor too felt the effects of the curse and grimaced as they watched for the corsola and cursola's next move.

Cursola moved first gathering a powerful swirl of energy before him. Liz looked to Lavender whom the cursola was targeting and quickly gestured to Haldor. "Haldor protect Lavender! It's using Ancient Power."

The steel snake lunged to beat the incoming rock type attack but was unable to block it before the cursola released it. The blast hit Lavender and knocked the icy water type back. She whimpered but steadied herself, weakened but still in this fight. Another one like that would likely take her down, which seemed to be exactly what the coral ghosts wanted. Liz grumbled under her breath though the smaller cursola and corsola were now readying their attacks. This time the smaller cursola released a powerful blast of bluish white light, Power Gem, another rock type move that would be super effective against the lapras and was even more powerful than Ancient Power.

This time however Liz looked to Raya who was already moving. The speedy jackal slipped between the blast and the lapras managing to deflect the blow. The steel jackal naturally barely even noticed the pitiful damage from the rock type attack.

Still, corsola was also targeting Lavender. Seemed this group knew she was the weaker target. However this corsola was playing dirty. Strange waves radiated from her and the lapras felt like a mental block had suddenly been placed in her mind. Temporarily she forgot how to use Ice Beam! The move had been disabled. The huge cursola once more began chanting to the sky sealing the trio's fate with his own.

"Well let's see if we can't do better. Lavender focus on patching yourself up, Lfe Dew. Haldor and Raya, let's take a page from their book. Get rid of the corsola. Crunch and Ice Punch." The girl instructed and the two descended onto the corsola with a vengeance while Lavender summoned a dewy mist and patched herself up.

Raya sprang forward though as they had the two cursola moved to protect their pre-evolution form. The smaller of the two cursola took the blow from the Ice Punch and staggered back from the powered up attack. She was still standing however and glowered at Raya.

Haldor dropped in next his jaws poised to clamp down on the corsola. Though she tried to avoid the attack the steelix's powerful jaws crunched down on her ghostly shell. Haldor threw the now unconscious coral ghost aside, thus the first of three fell.

The two remaining cursola wailed at the fall of their pre-evolution and glared daggers at the three left remaining. Sandstorm and the curse struck again and all were looking rather worn. The boss cursola immediately summoned another ball of rock energy and lobbed it again at Lavender.

Raya moved to intercept again but was too late. The ball slammed into Lavender and the icy water type crumpled to the ground, the curse and sandstorm having taken their toll and negated the benefit of Life Dew. Liz gasped and quickly recalled the fallen lapras from the field.

"Rest easy my dear. We'll take care of things from here." The ranger clipped the ball back in place and turned her attention back to the battle at hand. Following the boss's attack the smaller cursola targeted Haldor next and once more odd waves came off the coral pokemon blocking Haldor's ability to use Crunch. The boss moved once again and this time dropped an icy haze over the battlefield negating the benefits from Raya's Swords Dance. Sandstorm and Curse took their toll, though the Sandstorm was beginning to wane.

"This is getting irritating. Cee, jump in for just a moment and use Thunder Wave on that Cursola." The pikachu had been following the sounds of battle and nodded as she hopped off Liz's shoulder and released the electrical energy toward the cursola.

Luckily the cursola was unable to avoid the paralysing wave and was stopped in her tracks. Liz took this moment to pull a pokeball out and lobbed it toward the female cursola. Hopefully with her low health and paralysis she'd remain in the pokeball.

"Raya here." The ranger tossed an oran berry to the lucario who used it quickly, negating the damage taken from curse so far. The boss cursola saw this and used his own oran berry relieving some of the damage from the sandstorm. Though Haldor was unable to use Crunch the steel snake instead whipped his Iron Tail around.

Fortunately the oversized coral ghost was unable to move out of the way fast enough. Haldor's Iron Tail slammed into the boss and threw him backward. Raya followed up immediately with her Ice Punch once more.

Unfortunately the cursola managed to avoid the attack though was buffeted one last time by the sandstorm. The curse took its toll and boss cursola was on the attack again. Ancient Power was fired at the steelix though Haldor hardly bothered avoiding in. Then the boss chanted his Destiny Bond again.

"Just a little more guys." Liz encouraged feeling the battle had dragged on long enough. Raya went in once more with Ice Punch though Haldor was feeling quite weakened by the curse. Still he readied his Iron Tail once more.

Again the boss cursola avoided both attacks. The group were getting a tad frustrated now and Haldor wasn't doing well from the curse plus the sandstorm had subsided. Liz pursed her lips then took a pokeball and recalled the steel snake. 

"Cee, see if you can get a hit in." The girl requested of the pikachu. Cecylia jumped forward but was immediately met with the boss cursola chanting out another curse. Liz frowned, wait even with the oran berry from earlier, the boss cursola's health would take a serious hit from another curse. The curse fell upon Cecylia and was followed up by Ancient Power again.

The attack hit and threw the pikachu back, already rending her unconscious. Liz scowled and quickly recalled the poor pikachu. She looked at Raya who grit her teeth and nodded. This needed to end. The lucario charged forward and brought her Icy Fist upward.

This time Cursola hadn't time to avoid the hit and was already severely weakened from the second curse. Raya's fist slammed into the boss sending him flying back. The coral ghost wavered a moment then collapsed, defeated at last. Now they just had to see if the other cursola had been captured or not.

Success, the cursola hadn't broken free and was all that remained of the coral pokemon battle. Liz breathed a sigh of relief and climbed aboard Ayla. The weakened lucario joined her, wincing slightly from the battle. With only the three of them still standing, and Haldor in pretty rough shape as it is, now was the time when haste was necessary. The steelix was safe in his pokeball for the time being though Lavender and Cecylia were both currently unconscious. It would be up to Ayla to carry them the rest of the way into Bass.

The tropius understood the new urgency in reaching the town and the grass flier took to the air with a powerful burst of her quad wings. Raya gripped hold of Liz tightly nearly being unseated by the tropius's sudden movement. Though Liz knew there was only a short distance left to town and that the pokemon center would patch her teammates up in no time, she still worried about her fallen companions. 

The ranger played the battle in her head wondering if perhaps there had been anything she could've done differently to protect her team. However it simply seemed to just be a matter of a stronger opponent. It wasn't any fault of her own for her pokemon being rendered unconscious just the pitfalls of battle. 

Even so Liz couldn't help feeling a touch guilty. She sighed though Raya patted her shoulder encouragingly and Ayla gave a comforting rumble. The ranger chuckled softly. "You're right, thanks guys. Now let's get into town quickly and get you and our friends all patched up."
