That isn't to say that they're timid or shy, but simply that they prefer calm to rambunctious behavior and can be a little overwhelmed by those with "BIG" personalities. They still like those people just fine, only in smaller doses. When around those of a similar nature (or just a little easier to handle) Naoki is quite friendly, happy to just "talk" and to share some of their crop--people rarely leave their farm empty-handed. If they find somebody is upset they rarely shy away from the issue, preferring to clear the air immediately before it the problem festers. Though rarely pushed to the point of anger, Naoki can still be hurt by insensitive comments about them or their friends, and shows their anger or frustration through an uncharacteristic coldness toward the person responsible. They become frigid and biting, and will only accept apologies if meant in their earnest, and it's hard to lie to them due to their means of communication. While their calmness is part of their nature, their quietness is only partially by choice; Naoki lost most of their ability to hear at a very young age, and as a result mainly uses sign-language as a means of communication--they are capable of verbalizing, but they are insecure about it. However if they are not in the comfort of their home, they tend to rely on their Pokemon to speak for them. Literally, in the case of the Pokemon they chose so long ago... History Floaroma Town, while an awful play-on-words, was a lovely place for a family of florists and berry farmers. Before their birth Naoki's mother and father were exactly that, and they had quite a bit of profit from their work in Sinnoh's most lovely town. But through no fault of their parent's, Naoki was born with a very weak constitution, and suffered from numerous infections and illnesses through the whole of their childhood. The clean air in Floaroma Town kept them from suffering worse than they did, but by the time they were of school-age, Naoki had lost the majority of their sense of hearing and had come to rely on sign-language as their means of communication. Life for Naoki in school was interesting. They were reserved, but not impolite, and had a few friends who they would share notes with and play with after class. They did not feel like they were missing much, most of the time. As they and those around them grew up, though, and more and more friends were being given Pokemon and going off on whatever journey they saw fit, Naoki stayed at home for longer than most. They wanted a very specific Pokemon, one that they knew would be of help to them in the future. During the Ultra Beast attacks on the world, Naoki and their family were, thankfully, far enough from any of Sinnoh's major cities to be affected physically, but the way the world shook still frightened them. They watched with frightful eyes as the news came in from Jubilife and Hearthome City of strange creatures attacking from beyond who-knows-where. It wasn't until the news that the beings had been pushed back--fought by the Legendary beasts of knowledge, emotion, and willpower--that they dared to reach out to learn if any friends or family had been caught up in the damage wrought. Luckily, nobody close to them was hurt, though several returned from their journeys to stay home for a while afterwards. Finally, during their seventeenth year, the Nakano family got news of a very unusual Pokemon being offered to new trainers: an Elgyem. It was not in Sinnoh, so they would need to travel to obtain it, but it was precisely what Naoki had been waiting for. They flew out for Arciel to meet with the local Pokemon professor, and to obtain the odd little Psychic-type that would become their starter. Now, the reason Naoki had been seeking out a Pokemon like Elgyem was not for any particular usefulness in battle or farming--which was also what they hoped to do in Arciel--but due to its supposed ability to use telepathy to speak with those around it. For one such as Naoki that sort of skill would help them immensely, and provide them with some sort of voice for when they were unable to sign or type to the people around them. There were others they could have chosen from, and it would still take time for the little alien-like Pokemon to come into their own powers, but, well, they found Elgyem's really cute for some reason. And, to some extent, it reminded them of the Pokemon who had saved their home from the Ultra Beasts. So it just felt like the right pick for them. Since that time, Naoki had been living in Fuji Town, tending to the small plot of land they acquired and growing a large amount of berries and flowers alike for enjoyment as well as profit. They've enjoyed the peaceful side of Arciel, but don't see the harm in more people coming there as they did so long ago. Tourism can only help the region flourish, right? Goals Short-term goals:

Height 6'00" / 182cm Build Barrel Hair Color Black Eye Color Vibrantly Blue | Naoki is surprisingly tall and muscular for a person who was so weak as a child, but perhaps that was a result of trying to escape that life. Or maybe it's from all the hard work of farming? Either way, they are quite barrel-chested and broad despite their more delicate facial features. Their hair is long and black and kept up in a ponytail most of the time, but when loose reaches the middle of their back in length; and their eyes are a rather iridescent shade of sapphire blue. They like to wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing when not at work, often in floral colors. Aura Sweet, gentle, and shaped something like a shrub; a gradient of flourishing greens and blues. When bothered by something it shakes and rustles like a brush in a storm, but when happy it "blooms" with yellow, like flowers. |
