Now, Primrose knew home was the other direction - but she couldn't help but want to look around. After all, she had nothing really waiting at home for her right then, now did she? No! The only things she had to worry about were her new friend Ranger, and the eggs she carried with her - that was all. So, yeah, she could... get away with looking around, right? Just, exploring a little? There weren't any signs that said the route was dangerous, besides...
Curiosity gets the better of uncertainty and the young girl walks with her Rockruff in tow, who's been rather well behaved up until now (curious, she thinks, for a puppy,) out of Birch City and into the road proper. From what she'd gathered, there was a forest out this way, at the end of the route... and while she didn't think she was going to go entering such a place, she at least wanted to get a feel for the area. And maybe admire the sights while she did! She had a Pokemon to help protect her now, despite that he was as fresh to the scene as she was.
"Think we'll be okay, Ranger?" She asks, looking down at the Rockruff as it sniffs along the road curiously, keeping his little snout to the dirt, before he lifts his head up to her and wags its little tail once. Prim takes this as 'yes, we'll be totally fine,' and just goes on with it, reaching into her satchel for her camera. Nature often made for good photography, after all... and she had a new subject!
As they walk on, she takes a moment to snap a picture of Ranger prancing along the side of the road.

As the shutter clicks, she tilts the camera forward to examine the display - only to find that the picture's gone blurry. Silently cursing herself, Primrose shakes her head and decides to watch Ranger a few moments longer, considering he seems rather intent on those bushes. His paws withdraw from its depths two round, purple apricorns. With a short, impressed sound, Prim crosses the distance between herself and the pup to pick them up and examine them for blemishes.
While she'd never seen one in person, she'd seen pictures - and she knew they certainly came in handy. "Thank you, Ranger! We just met and you already got me a gift... I guess I made the right choice, huh?" Leaning down, she gently draws her hands through the Rockruff's fur, and scratches behind his ears (something he certainly seems to like,) before rising back to her feet and putting those apricorns away as she deduced they weren't riddled with worm holes.
"Let's keep going! Maybe we'll find something else, or get a nice picture!" Trailing along the road, a nice picture seems to be right in the stars. A stump, perfectly round and surrounded by flowers (well, weeds, but pretty enough to her,) at the base, sits aside the trail, making her grin. "Oh, look at that! Here, here, come here." Kneeling down once more, she carefully picks the Rockruff up and sets him on the stump, gently guiding him to sit - he doesn't seem like like it, but he recognizes it's what she wants, and so, he does it.

The first few snaps aren't anything special. Well, they were, because they were of a very cute Rockruff, but... well, compared to the little pink blob that starts waddling into frame, it was quite the mundane scene. Of course, it seems the little Happiny has her own eyes! Or a desire for a modeling career herself. Staring at it for a moment, Prim seems to faintly recognize that she was, for all intents and purposes, a Trainer now - or, in some way or other. She didn't know if she had any plans on... challenging gyms, or anything but....
And then, the more she thought about it? The better an idea catching this little friend came to be. Chancey were fantastic companions to nurses, and with their natural paternal sort of skills... well, it made sense for someone in her line of work to pick one up. Taking a moment to just snap a few more pictures of the Happiny, and of Ranger besides, she decides it's time to put herself to the test! "Hey, Ranger, let's, uhm... let's make a friend!"
Of course, the process of making friends was a little different when it came to catching Pokemon, and... well, she has to steel herself for the act. "Okay, Ranger... u-use Tackle on that Happiny!" Without too much hesitation, the pup lifts its head and turns towards the Happiny, before hopping off of the stump and making a run right for the unsuspecting baby. Oh god, it was a baby, too. Oh, she was terrible, wasn't she?
The Happiny lets out a sad little cry at being attacked - and tries to fight back with a thudding Pound against Ranger; he seems largely unphased. Prim takes the opportunity to give throwing a ball a try... reaching into her satchel, she grasps one of them and gives a rather lukewarm toss toward the Pokemon.

Staring at the ball is it suddenly ensnares the Happiny, Prim waits with bated breath for the outcome. It was just one Tackle, hopefully it didn't hurt it too much? But, just enough to actually... catch it? Several long moments pass, leaving the girl in absolute suspense until the ball, at last, stops wriggling and sits there. It's almost anticlimactic. Now, she knows how Pokeballs work, and that's how it was supposed to be, yet she almost hadn't expected it to be quite so easy for her. Knowing her luck, she'd go through twenty balls before actually managing to catch one... but there it was! Hers! A Happiny, that she caught all on her own!
When the moment catches up to her, Primrose gasps, and looks down at Ranger. "...We did it! Like, we actually did it!" Reaching over, she picks up the small (actually rather large, for a puppy) Pokemon and lifts him up, giving him a wide, happy smile. "Thank you, Ranger! You're so strong! Ohmygosh, we actually... caught a Pokemon!" Giving the pup an excited shake (he doesn't like it, but his tail wags in happiness for his new Trainer,) she sets him down carefully thereafter and picks up the ball, smiling widely at it.
"Wow." Beaming from ear to ear, she tucks the ball away and decides to continue on her walk with Ranger, thinking she might need to pick up some treats for him later, and on what she might name this baby. "Let's keep going, okay? I wanna at least see what the Forest looks like... we'll turn around and head home after."

Was being a Trainer always this easy? Okay, so, she didn't think it was easy, per se, she knew a lot went into the craft. Honing your skill, helping your Pokemon be the strongest they could be... it took a lot, time and effort, dedication, and a fair bit of luck. But was getting started that easy? Prim's quiet as she contemplates this, occasionally snapping pictures of this and that - of bird Pokemon in the trees, of pretty flowers and Ranger meandering around her - that once more, she nearly misses something important.
Pink is the color of the day, she notes amusedly, as she stares at the Igglybuff that wanders out of the grass and into view. Lowering her camera, she wonders if she can tempt fate not once, but twice. With a rush of confidence gained from the capturing of the Happiny, Prim points at the little pink ball and says, "Ranger, use... u-uh, Leer!"
The Rockruff nods, and gives the Igglybuff what seems to be the MEANEST stare anyone's ever seen a cute puppy give. So much, that-- oh, oh, Prim feels really bad-- the Igglybuff starts to cry. "Oh, wait, wait!" Crossing the distance between them, so that she stood at Ranger's side, not far from the Igglybuff, the girl lowers herself to her knees and holds a hand out. "I'm sorry, y-you're, just a baby, right?"
It'd taken so much of her not to cry with the Happiny, and she doesn't seem to have the same strength this time. "I just wanted to make friends, uhm..." Reaching into her satchel, she pulls out a small treat, purchased in anticipation for having Pokemon today, and tosses it in the direction of the weeping Igglybuff, "Could we be friends, maybe? I won't have him stare at you like that again..."
Ranger huffs, and lays down, watching as Prim rolls a Pokeball across the ground in the Igglybuff's direction, hopeful.

When the Igglybuff enters the ball, Prim once more waits with excitement - would it work as well as the last time? Statistically, and actually, no. After only a few seconds, the ball pops right back open, leaving the sniffling Pokemon sat there on the ground, whimpering and clutching the treat that'd been tossed to it sadly.
"Oh, oh, I'm-- I'm so sorry!" Oh, hell, she was bad at this. Feeling her nose warm with the prospect of her own crying, she wonders if she'll actually be able to manage this whole catching thing, or if she should try something else..? Seeing as the ball hadn't broken, she decides to try one more time. "Uhm, I'm gonna try again, but if this doesn't work, I'm gonna stop, okay? I'm sorry, I'm bad at this..."
Why was she apologizing to the Pokemon for that? She didn't understand it much herself, only that she felt the absolute NEED to say sorry. Reaching out, she tries to pat the small thing on the top of the head, giving it a careful rub before drawing away, feeling like she'd narrowly avoided being bitten? Did... Did Igglybuff even have teeth? Her hand comes to rest against her breast, nervously. She didn't want to find out. Taking hold of the Pokeball, luckily still intact, she gives it another toss.

After a few tense moments, Prim lets herself breathe a sigh of relief. Of course, she was happy to let the Pokemon go, had she failed again - especially considering she didn't want to waste all her balls... but beyond that, she was just glad it worked. It was harder, though, than battling - maybe she should try to get stronger, after all? But, was it fair of her, to beat up a Pokemon just to bring it home, to call it her friend? She knew, of course, that most Pokemon held that friendly rivalry, the one that often led to them accompanying Trainers to get stronger, but still... she felt bad. Especially considering Igglybuff had cried!
Still, she can't help but feel kind of proud of herself. And of Ranger, though he'd only given it a scary glare. To his credit, though, it was a pretty good one. "Boy, you're gonna be ferocious when you grow up, aren't you? Scary boy." The words seem to sit well with the Rockruff, who wags his tail a couple times before prowling on ahead, leaving Prim to job after him. "Wait, okay, don't-- don't go too far ahead, okay?"
Prim didn't know how long the trail went for, much less what else might be lurking in the bushes. She didn't know if they were all quite as cute and easy to get along with as the friends she'd already made.

Several minutes pass with Primrose simply walking, before the Rockruff meandering not far from her seems to catch the scent of something. Lowering her camera, where she'd been focused on his fluffy tail, she watches him keenly, though what he does, she doesn't expect. Quickly, Ranger goes skittering off into the underbrush with a huff of a bark - at first causing a jolt from Prim. "Hey, w-wait--" It wasn't so concerning before because she could still see him, she knew he was okay. Maybe she shouldn't let him stay out of his ball like that?
Luckily, only a moment later, does that Pokeball come rolling out of the bushes, with Ranger in tow, much to the woman's surprise. "Oh! Oh, don't-- don't scare me like that." Lightly jogging over, she kneels down to hoist the ball up and examine it; it wasn't broken or anything, much to her surprise. "Huh, you're pretty good at playing fetch, aren't you?" Prim laughs faintly, reaching into her satchel for one of those little treats, to offer it to Ranger. "Thank you! I'm sure this'll come in handy..."
Putting the ball away, Prim feels slightly more at ease; two Pokemon and a couple useful items, besides? This was turning out to be a fruitful day.

Not moments after the Pokeball is put away, does something else happen. From the same direction as Ranger had just returned comes a Stantler; a rather pretty Pokemon, all things considered. But, Prim had to make a decision; did she want to take on more than she could handle? She'd already caught three Pokemon, and had her eggs besides... Tentatively, she decides to leave the Stantler be in terms of capture, though she does allow herself some time to snap a few pictures of it as it grazed upon a nearby bush.
For the most part, it seems to ignore her, and for that she's thankful. She knew, at times, Pokemon could start fights... and she didn't know if she was ready for that. Sighing out, she carefully maneuvers around it, ushering Ranger along with her. "I probably shouldn't push my luck too much, huh? I dunno if I can handle big Pokemon like that, anyway. Gosh, or even have the room for it in my little apartment..."
Thinking about it, she just might need to move sometime soon. Was an apartment a good place for someone with Pokemon? For a moment, the girl briefly regrets disconnecting herself from the family fortune, if only because she could move so easily had she not... Oh well. She could take care of it herself over time, anyway!

Then, as she turns her eyes elsewhere, there it is - a tiny little thing. Well, fat little thing, if her knowledge of Scatterbugs was anything to go by. But small comparative to her! Prim stares at it as it starts to worm across the road, to get from one side to the other, while Ranger follows quietly alongside it, giving it a sniff. It doesn't seem to like this, and it quickly releases a volley of String that entangles the curious Rockruff, who lets out a yelp of discomfort. Prim gasps and comes over to Ranger's side, prying the sticky web away carefully, as the little Scatterbug wriggles away.
While she considers catching it, knowing full well how pretty they could be when they evolve, she decides against it. She had, after all, just chastised herself for potentially overdoing it with the Stantler...
Helping Ranger out of the string, he makes an upset noise, huffing and puffing as he looks at the retreating Pokemon like it wants to start a fight, but without Prim's permission, he behaves, and is rewarded with a pat on the head for the effort. "Sorry about that, pal. Maybe be careful who we go sniffing."
