Set in the original region of Arciel, Legends Rising is a route-inspired, but not strictly route-based, Pokemon roleplay. Pick a faction, pick a class, and strike out into the wild to take on the League, master Contest coordination, research the mysteries of Pokemon and Arciel, and much, much more. Will you be a classic trainer? A criminal? A farmer? Choose your destiny on Legends Rising.
Awesome - the campus had ample signage, just like Ecruteak University of Johto. There was a three-story building in the center of the campus, labeled "Student Center". That was as good a place to start as any. It was after 4 PM by now; the sun was getting uncomfortably close to the horizon. The campus grounds were nearly deserted, the north parking lot close to empty. The south parking lot was still about half full - that was likely closer to where all the night classes were.
Shalin and Caprice crossed a stone bridge to reach the building's north side. She recalled the fire-type and entered, noticing many of the first floor's facilities were gated shut, including two fast-food chains. Unsurprising, given the time of day. She took a flight of stairs up to the second floor, where most of the campus offices were located. Dean's Office, Counseling, Admissions, Testing, Accounts Payable...aha, Accounts Receivable. There were only two people in line ahead of her, too. Pulling the small parcel from her mail bag, she patiently waited her turn to be seen.
The one in front being serviced just started crying. She can't seem to scrounge enough money together to pay her tuition this semester and is going to have to take it off.
The conversation between the accounting rep and the sobbing student was tragic at the very least, maybe even heart-wrenching to some. She was finishing up a four-year program that was the first step to becoming a Pokémon Professor and opening up her own Lab. This was the final semester for her, and she was not able to afford her tuition due to a delay in collecting on her grandmother's life insurance. The money she had put away for her tuition instead went to the funeral home.
The girl started balling about how she had a job offer lined up as a Professor's assistant while she was finishing her studies, and the clerk working the desk was showing no empathy at all. She pleaded for an extension until the refund deadline, but was denied. "And this is one of the reasons why college is such a scam," Shalin thought. "Experience is a better qualifier than any stupid piece of paper a school can give you." One of the two would have to give in soon, and it certainly wasn't going to be the school.
You wait a little longer before it's your turn, and as you get up next in line, explain your situation, and start to hand over the package... the woman immediately starts yelling and berating you. Arceus damn the stupid Poke-mail was now having children deliver packages? Did they have no decency at all? Their packages were confidential, and speaking of confidential, this package should have been delivered months ago! How dare they be so late with it now!
As the irate woman went on and on for what seemed like the rest of the afternoon, but was actually only a few minutes, others in the room turned to the argument at the Accounts Receivable desk. Several people in line for Accounts Payable walked out of the line and down the stairs. Even the female's co-workers turned their heads, unable to focus on processing payments received earlier in the week with all the racket she was making.
Every time Shalin tried to get in a word, she was interrupted. If she had more time, she would have looked at the woman's name tag and filed a complaint with the campus. Alas, she had little time--she was pushing sunset as-is, with how far away her final delivery point and return point were. The moment the woman took a deep breath, Shalin could finally get a word in. "Excuse me..." her voice trailed. "If you're going to refuse the package, you'll need to write the words 'Refused - Return to Sender' on the outside of the package and sign it." She had a permanent marker in her off-hand in the unlikely event the clerk did not have one behind the desk.

The woman huffs and states she will be taking the package because yada yada yada, and she continues to go on after the fact. You could... probably just... count that as a win and walk away, though.
The moment the angry woman accepted the package after all, Shalin gave her best fake "Have a good day!" before speed-walking out of the campus office complex. That woman was agitated like she was experiencing a mid-life crisis or something. Whatever it was, it had to be horribly troubling - she didn't even want to know.
The moment she was outside, Shalin called on Caprice's swift feet again, mounting up and leaving the community college via the north exit. The sun was at the horizon, street lights already turned on. There was still natural light, just not very much. "We need to hurry, girl!" the rider urged, her Ninetales going a tad over the posted speed limit. She was worried that the offices of the Explorer's Guild would be closed for the day. There would certainly be no time to take care of her personal business with them until the next morning. There would be just enough time for her to return to the post office to turn in her proof of delivery and pick up her check as things stood now.
You get back to the next house no problems! It seems as if you hit all the lights and turns perfectly! After such a struggle, this was a breeze! Soon enough you are in front of your last delivery house.
The Explorer's League was on the first floor of a small, three-story office building. The street lights were all on, the night-time establishments opening their doors. She checked the time, and it appeared she had arrived not too long before the offices were to close for the day. Perfect timing! Caprice took her right up to the building's front door. As no Pokémon at all were permitted inside the building, she recalled the large Fire-type. Most of her Pokémon would probably only cause trouble, not being used to the city much.
The directory inside was easy enough to follow - her destination was the third right from the entrance. "The offices of Endre Arthmael, ambassador of the Arciel Explorer's League. This has got to be the one." The final package's label indeed matched. She headed into the office, looking for the receptionist. He was in plain sight, with no line. Not surprising given what time of day it was - just before closing. "Excuse me, I have two things," Shalin greeted the male. "First off, a package for Endre's assistant. Second, I would like to make an appointment to see Endre or his assistant. When is their next available late morning appointment?"

"Appointment? Assistant?" The man looks at you like he doesn't have a clue what you're talking about. But, he takes your package all the same! Asking around, you hear that Endre was last spotted in Pine Town.
"Ah, at another branch," Shalin replied, breathing a big sigh of relief her deliveries were all completed. "Thanks! I'll head over there tomorrow." She neglected to consider that the Explorer's League had branches in more than one major city in Arciel. It wouldn't be surprising if every major city had a branch, given how one of the region's Trainer attractions was simply exploring the unknown. She didn't have time to muse about that now, though--the post office was closing soon.
Time of the essence, Shalin jogged out of the building, called forth Caprice, and got her geared back up with all haste. An empty delivery bag felt great - especially considering this was the last time she was going to go on a job like this unless she was desperate for money. "Let's go, girl--we need to make it to the post office before it closes!" The Ninetales was a bit reluctant to run at the brisk pace Shalin asked for - she was tired from all the running around. The fire-type started at a leisurely jog in an effort to save her strength. "We're not going to make it like that!" Shalin wasn't wrong, either - the sun had already set, leaving her to rely on the street lights to see where she was going. Thankfully, those were abundant in a city this size. Caprice let out a whimper followed by two loud barks, pushing herself to her normal run despite her exhaustion. "I'll treat you to a special meal tomorrow - I promise. But we need to make it back before they close!"
Caprice, weaving around some traffic, was able to make it back to the post office with Shalin in tow, the rider sliding off. "Thank you so much - get some rest. You deserve it. Return!" She withdrew the fire-type entered the post office, stumbling from time to time. She had failed to monitor her own condition as well - though she wasn't out of energy like her Ninetales was, she wouldn't be heading back to the Thunderdome tonight. Maybe tomorrow night.
Shalin walked up to the postmaster's desk, bracing herself against a support pillar. "We finished...the route," she reported under heavy breaths. "Wasn't quite sure I'd...make it back in time before you closed." She stepped up to the desk and set the empty mail bag there, immediately lurching back toward the pillar. "I'd like to trade this...for my check." Her experience today reminded her precisely why she made her way in the wild rather than in the city - people. Just...people.
