"Don't worry, Liv, I know what I'm doing!" He said, fully confident, still flossing at the confused Tyrogue - but faster now. The Tyrogue looked helplessly from Marshall to Liv and then to the Poochyena still prancing around Marshall's legs and arms, and just.... stood there, unsure of what to do with itself now. Seeing that the Tyrogue wasn't spurred to fight right away Marshall made a triumphant sound and said, "It's working!"
If Liv the Poochyena had any kind of arms, she would definitely be doing the same thing as her master - but as it was, she didn't, so the only thing she could do was to just stand up on her hind legs and wave her paws around in short little bursts. It seemed to work well enough, especially since the Tyrogue, looking even more unsure of itself, was slowly starting to back away. Perhaps it would flee soon?
"That's it, Liv!" Marshall encouraged the young Poochyena, who pranced up and down harder in response. "You're doing it!"
Liv felt horrible for the poor Tyrogue, confused out of its mind and unsure of what to do. As if that weren't enough, Marshall had convinced that Poochyena that this was normal conduct to do out and about. In public. The second-hand embarrassment was floating around Liv like a dreaded fog, the distraction of it all only broken apart by the buzzing of Gardenia near her head. Grasping onto Marshall's shoulder as if her hand were a claw, the blonde wore a grimace unlike anything she'd worn before.
Or at least since she's left Celadon.
"Marshall, you're scaring the poor thing!" She exclaimed, her eyes darting between the unstoppable force that was Marshall and the clearly breakable wall that was the Tyrogue, who was backing up so far toward the grass that its escape was almost completely certain. But before the wild Pokémon would have its chance to leave, or for any of Liv's own partners could react or even absorb the situation to its fullest, something just... clicked in Liv's head.
Did... Marshall... call his Poochyena... Liv?
Almost in a flat, unimpressed tone that betrayed the panic and embarrassment that had taken hold of Liv for the past minute or two, she spoke up, close enough to Marshall that she didn't have to raise her voice, but if he were to look at her, he'd see how accusatory her eyes were. "You were talking to me, right? Tell me that you were talking to me for some strange, Marshall-like reason that I'm not making any sense of and not because you named something—" She gestured to Marshall's adorable partner with her other hand, "—after me?"
He was always so good at making things weird that she wouldn't be surprised either way.

At human!Liv's slowly worded observation, it seemed that even the Tyrogue knew that something bad was going down. It froze in favor of outright staring at Marshall, almost as though his folly had also landed the fighting-type in trouble, and even Liv the Poochyena plopped down on all fours to peer curiously up at her namesake. She gave a hearty boof and began to wag her tail excitedly back and forth, then turned to Marshall and gave another bark as though in emphasis. It was almost as though it were pointing the finger at him.
Marshall, without shame, admitted to the deed right away.
"An inspiration, Liv! To keep this pokemon from a life of crime, I have thus named her after you!" He extended the finger and pointed first at Liv the Poochyena, who barked excitedly and wagged her tail faster, then to Liv the human, a triumphant look breaking out across his features. "So no matter how hopeless it may seem, how desperate you may get - I want you to think of this tiny Liv, and know that she is living her best life free of sin and full of justice and triumph! That is my gift to you!"
Did it make sense? Probably not to any rational, sane person. But to Marshall, it made all the sense in the world, and the overly confident way he projected this view to anyone that would listen - and there were, in fact, a few joggers who had slowed down as they passed, giving the group odd stares - said that this belief was unshakable.
Of course. Of course the glare wouldn't have gotten through to Marshall, let alone make her sheer embarrassment over the whole situation clear. As the people jog by listening to his... gesticulations and loudness, Liv couldn't help but wish to some outside otherworldly force that she might shrink down to the size of a flower and live her life out among the wilderness to never be seen again. She released his shoulder with her vice-like grip, dragging those hands down her face as she tried her best to hide how much she was outright bothered.
"I can't believe you," she started, her voice nearly muffled by her palms. "I mean, I can believe that you of all people would do something so ridiculous, but somehow I can't believe it. I'm so blindsided." She wanted to question his thought process behind it, despite him already explicitly doing so, but at the same time being as confused as she was is nothing short of a blessing, probably.
"How is it a gift to me if she's your—" No, Liv. Stop. With a loud sigh, she peered to the wild Tyrogue, waving her hand at it as if to try and tell it to just leave before the situation grew worse. As harmless as everything was, Liv felt like she was trapped in some fever dream and the only ones to pick up on it were her Pokémon. At least they were there for her, Gardenia floating near her head like a worried mother. Despite being newly hatched.

As Liv started walking away, Marshall took the opportunity to look at the Tyrogue, who was still standing looking uneasily from Marshall to Liv but was well ready to turn tail and flee from these crazies. He pointed a finger at it, and Liv the Poochyena gave a yappy bark in emphasis, her little rump wagging faster and faster in pure joy. Despite the ridiculousness of the situation, she was having a great time. The Tyrogue continued to stare at first Liv the human, then Liv the Poochyena, and finally to Marshall, the mastermind behind this ridiculous situation. Marshall's expression, while serious at first, eventually smoothed out into a bright, dazzling smile, and he turned that pointed hand sideways and flashed the pokemon a quick thumbs-up in approval.
"Go now, friend. Go, and tell your friends all about how you met me, the great Marshall Legend - yes, yes, I know," Marshall simpered, trying to look less impressive in his ratty old tracksuit. The effort was practically nonexistent. "You can scarcely believe it yourself, can you? Well, believe it, for now that I am here, whenever there is a pokemon in need, or a person, or a panty thief, I'll be there - because crime doesn't stop, and neither do legends! Certainly not ones that are as well-adored, well-known and as well-loved as I am - which, of course you can have my autograph, you know, you don't even have to ask-"
The Tyrogue had already left. After about five more minutes of monologuing to himself (passerbys giving him a wide berth the entire time) Marshall eventually jogged to catch up with Liv, his presence announced only by the swishswish of his pants legs rubbing together. "Liv! It's dangerous to go alone!!"
