Marshall would find his shoulders a little sore from all that heavy lifting, and Kaisei would still be dealing with his injury of sorts but... for the most part all was clear. Lucky both of you are so strong. The truck driver takes on you on to the next location or maybe the dump, depending.
At the sight of the garbage can rolling wild and free down the street, Kaisei was sure he heard the garbage truck driver mutter "Los idiotas" under his breath. He was about to say something in his own defense when he heard Marshall banging on the side of the truck, and realized that the man had simply climbed onto the back and was dangling off the side. Well, I'm not about to let this moron show me up, he thought darkly, before returning his Pokemon, grabbing onto the handle on the other side of the truck, climbing aboard, and kicking it with his foot to tell the driver to get a move on. The truck driver huffed loudly, but the truck slowly started moving down the street. [break][break] As they exited the nice part of town, traveled through some less-nice parts, and bumped over gravelly roads and at least one pothole, Kaisei surmised that they were on their way to the dump. Well, it was about time he got paid for doing this thing. Then they stopped at a busy intersection, and Kaisei was desperately looking around for something - anything - to get away from having to stare back at the other man's goofy face and his equally silly Grimer. Seeing as it felt like the truck wasn't moving anytime soon, he reached into his backpack for a snack, and felt a strange static-y itch on the back of his hand. [break][break] He jerked his hand out of the bag with a start. There was a spider there. A spider as big as his whole hand. She smiled with all four of her eyes, and crawled up to his wrist. [break][break] "GILBAMESH LEGEND, WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?!" he screamed, loud enough to be heard up and down the block. Marshall, for his part, was perfectly enjoying the drive as the truck bounced and rattled and shook its way down a particularly long street - oh they were probably going somewhere, huh. Only slightly disappointed that this job hadn't turned up much in the way of "clues", he found himself entertained by the notion that they were going to some crummy part of town - especially with that pothole - and there would be even more garbage to sift through, or better yet people to interrogate. Suspicious people, at that! He felt his legs bouncing a little in anticipation, and while Chocolate had pressed his head to the side of Marshall's head with his little eyeball sliding a little sideways (which it quickly shifted when Marshall did, reassembling its face into something more symmetrical), the brunet wasn't much bothered by this and looked over to Kaisei just as the truck stopped and the blond moved to reach into his backpack.
Marshall was especially invested and, as such, by the time Kaisei jerked his hand out to reveal the pokemon that had presumably hatched out of the egg, he was already leaning over - probably over the back of the truck with extra trash smell drifting up, much to Chocolate's delight - and got a front row seat to the Joltik climbing up Kaisei's hand, looking happy as could be.
"That's a friend, Kaisei." Marshall said matter-of-factly, his tone much like someone explaining something simple to a young child. Behind him, his Grimer let out a raspy coo of agreement. "That's a friend."
By the power of friendship and anime, you make it to the dump. Too bad that now includes offloading the heavier stuff so the machine can just drop the rest.
After that outburst from Marshall, Kaisei thanked the gods that he was not in a children's TV show where throngs of passersby were likely to break out into a musical number about the wonders of friendship at any given moment. The truck arrived at the dump, and the driver emerged, having a few words with a man who Kaisei deduced was the landfill operator before the new supervisor walked over and started barking orders to the pair. [break][break] Kaisei was tired of this. So he complied. [break][break] Out came all the heavy stuff, the sofa, the bag with the portion of the fence, and some other things he hadn't even noticed before. Kaisei threw his back into it, lifting and carrying the garbage to where it needed to be. And all the while, the Joltik was clinging onto his hand, until she wasn't. Noticing Kaisei struggling to pick up the sofa, she leaped off his hand, wrapped it up in several yards of spider-strong String Shot, then reared up to hand him the end. [break][break] "Thanks?" he said. The Joltik grinned and clapped her forelegs together. [break][break] "I guess you need a name, don't you?" Kaisei said as he dragged the sofa toward a pile of junk, heaved it up by where the strings tied together, and flung it into the pile with a heavy crash. "How about..." He glanced around the junkyard, and his glance settled on the man definitely not named Marshall Legend again. "How about Tomoko." In the Kantonese language, it meant friend child. The perfect irony to cap off this day. [break][break] With Tomoko's help, he managed to finish the job without complaint. He needed to get paid. [break][break] Then he needed a drink. Also a shower. But first, a drink. As soon as the truck stopped Marshall was quick to hop out and immediately began taking the larger objects out as directed by their new supervisor. Seeing that Kaisei had gotten a hold of some of the larger stuff already - with his new friend, which was a heartwarming sight in and of itself (Marshall definitely took full credit for that, good job Marshall Legend) - Marshall moved to what was left over. Chocolate oozed over his shoulders and chest helpfully as he picked up a nightstand with one leg missing and carried it over to the designated dumping site, carelessly piling it on top of what was already there before moving to the rest of the garbage.
The entire process didn't take very long, especially with the both of them working in tandem in various parts of the truck, and when they were all said and done Marshall stood upright and watched as the truck began to drive off, carrying the rest of its haul deeper into the dump so it could offload it into a trash compactor. Which... left the question of what they were going to do about getting back, now that he thought of it, but he was suddenly invested in the developing act of friendship between trainer and pokemon, and stood staring at Kaisei approvingly with his hands set on his hips, effectively power stancing in the middle of a dump. The image probably would have been more impressive if one of Chocolate's eyeballs wasn't dripping over his shoulder, but he liked to imagine he looked pretty impressive regardless. And inspiring, definitely inspiring.
"And with Tomoko saved from a life of crime and drug-dealing I see my work here is done." Marshall spoke, almost as if that was the goal he had been aiming for this whole time. "There's no need to thank me, Kaisei - it's all in a day's work for the great Marshall Legend, who I most definitely am not. I hope whenever you feel small, or afraid, or hungry, you think of me! Him! Marshall Legend! The Wunderkind! The Rising Star! The Enigma! And I hope the thought compels you into a sense of security, and safety, and peace of mind." And Marshall's hands went to the janitor's uniform he was wearing, and he pulled, effectively stripping in the middle of a dump to reveal... a tracksuit. How did he manage to fit that under? Who knows.
The brunet powerstanced one last time, gave Kaisei a conspiratorial wink and then turned swiftly on his heel, dabbed, and ran out of the dump with Chocolate lifting a gooey arm to wave goodbye and a fading "FAREWELLLLL". But what about payment?? That was a mystery for another day.
