Brutus had flown up ahead to flutter around a pair of round bushes surrounding a single, lone tree - a sight that had Jedah snickering to himself, the immature ten year old in him surfacing for a brief second - when there was a sudden splat and a burst of cold seeping into his torso. He looked down to find the remains of a snowball sliding slowly down his front and spotted a Lucario darting behind another secluded copse a few feet away. The sound of snickering wafted forth, and when Brutus flew back to investigate he was pelted so hard with a snowball that the impact sent the bird sailing into a snow drift. Oof.

Jedah didn't have much in the way of gloves, but that didn't stop him from gathering snow together into a ball and hurling it as hard as he could at the Riolu in retaliation. It smacked into the puppy's head and it flopped back in the snow, momentarily stunned before it got back up and began to pack snow into a bigger ball.

This continued on for some time, Brutus freeing himself to try and intercept all of Riolu's thrown balls, and once the wild pokemon had had its share of fun it shook itself free of any remnants of snow and scampered off on all fours over a hill, disappearing out of sight.

He liked to think he could see the next town from where he was standing, but that might just be wishful thinking. Brutus had attained a near-permanent state of fluffiness as the snow fell heavier all around them, thoroughly covering the ground underfoot and blanketing everything in a veil of pure white. In a way it was kind of good; he could see pokemon in stark contrast against the snow and maybe take a path to avoid them, but on the other hand if any of them were outright buried under the snow it would make stepping on them easier to do.

But so far, so good.

It was Jedah, not Brutus, that spotted the Dusk Balls half-buried in the snow a little ways away. He stepped off the previously beaten path - though now there was so much falling snow covering the ground it was hard to tell if he'd kept to it - and made his way over, gently nudging them free with his boot and opening each individually to make sure there weren't any pokemon left inside. It was a rare possibility, but still a pretty viable one. If there was someone out here dropping empty balls left and right, who's to say they wouldn't accidentally drop their pokemon, too?

After determining that they were, in fact, empty, and that there were no other people around, Jedah tucked them into his pocket with the rest of his finds and made his way back to the trail he'd been blazing.

13/15 Journey Post

At some point during their journey Jedah heard another pair of steps crunching behind them. Thinking it was another trainer or some such making their way through the route, he stepped a little off to the side so they would have room to pass through as Brutus turned himself around to peer at the person imperiously. Once the Rookidee caught sight of what was actually behind them he squawked and flapped a wing against Jedah's head to get his attention. Pausing in his tracks, Jedah turned to see a small lion-like creature crawling along behind them, looking at him with a hopeful expression in his eyes.

"... You hungry there, fella?" Jedah stooped down and checked the pokedex application on his phone. Litleo, huh? Another fire type, one he hadn't seen on Cinnabar. It must be from another region. The pokemon took one step, then a second, and then eventually made its way fully up to Jedah to rub at his knee with his head. Jedah gave it a little pat and the pokemon leaned eagerly into the touch, the tail behind it wafting back and forth. Maybe not so much hungry for food as he was hungry for attention, and that brought a smile to his face.

Brutus was strutting from one of Jedah's shoulders to the other and peering at the Litleo critically, waiting for it to attack. When it was clear no attack would come he hopped down to Jedah's knee and perched, staring at the Litleo and turning his head this way and that. Litleo turned his face into Jedah's thigh and wedged itself between it and his elbow, snuggling up to his warmth happily as the older man gave a sigh.

"All right, all right," He conceded, pulling out a Nest Ball and booping the pokemon gently on the nose with it.

14/15 Journey Post

Once the pokemon was drawn into the ball Jedah held it firmly between both hands to warm it and watch the pokemon wiggle as it was captured. Surprisingly - or unsurprisingly - there wasn't a whole lot of wiggling, and the click that sounded as the ball sealed was more final than anything. Perhaps the Litleo had really been lonely.

Jedah tossed the ball up and down a few times while he thought, spinning it on his finger as he stood and thought of a name for the little guy. Looking to Brutus, he rolled an idea around in his head and grinned at the ball, perhaps a little wryly. "Caesar, then. Sound good?" He looked to the bird for affirmation and was met with a triumphant caw and a spreading of his wings.

"Don't look into that too much; I expect you both to get along, all right?" Brutus only cawed in an exasperated way, fluffing himself up to conserve heat. "That's my guy."

Dusting some snow off of his shoulders, Jedah squinted through the flurries of snow and tried to guess at how much longer they had until they reached Pine Town. Soon.

15/15 Journey Post

Just when he was about to enter the town proper, Brutus flapped off of his shoulder and sailed down to the ground to kick at something green and round half-buried in the snow. He plucked it up in his little beak and flew back to Jedah's shoulder to land and drop it in his outstretched hand. Jedah hummed at the find and held it up to the light. It was in pretty good condition, like it'd just come off a tree. Pretty good find.

"All in all, this was a pretty good walk, wouldn't you say?" Jedah nudged the Rookidee on his shoulder, who puffed up in response. After tucking the berry away in his pocket, he turned and made his way into Pine Town proper, ready to find the nearest bar and maybe book a hotel for the evening.
