Tell us a little about yourself. How would you describe yourself?
Brianna considered the question quietly for a moment. Before she had an easily reached answer but her circumstances had changed. Who was she outside of ballet? She had had a year and a half to think about it. She could come up with words.
“I'm determined. I'm a former dancer. I'm good at listening to my parents I guess?” She shrugged, her over sized jacket slipped down one shoulder. "I guess people might say I'm lost but really I just want to try something new. Something complicated. I always liked learning complicated routines and there's a lot more to battling than I first thought so with a self imposed challenge?"
She smirked and brushed a stray strand of hair out of her face. "It's going to be great. Oh, I know it's not going to be easy, I'm not scared of a hard time." She snorted and uncrossed one of her legs to move her ankle in a circle before putting it down. "Physical therapy was hard, but I'm done with that now and ballet just seems...well lets just say it's not really my thing right now."
Why are you interested in the class you've chosen?
“So, I always use to think that winning a battle was just about hitting the other guy harder firt." She laughed at the look on the interviewer's face, as amused as he was by her former naivete. "I get it now, I've seen first hand how crazy it can get! There's a lot to learn, a lot of planning involved and I'm looking forward to it. Plus it'll give my Skitty something to do! He's way too energetic for a contest ring."
Why are you interested in training in Arciel? Why not another region?
“It’s pretty boring, actually! My family was moved here last year, dad’s work transferred him to help set up a bunch of stores in the region. My mom is an independent accountant so she can get a job anywhere. I’m obviously not independent yet, at the time we moved I was still on crutches and had physical therapy for my leg so of course I came with.”
What do you consider your best attributes? They can be physical, mental, social, or anything else.
“My sense of balance.” She said immediately with a carefully mild look. She held the silence for a moment until the interviewer tilted their head to encourage her to go on and she flashed a smile and elaborated. “My physical sense of balance, and mental too I guess. During my recovery I had a lot of time to think about myself and what I want to do and who I am. My determination got me through my physical therapy and my rehearsals before that, and it’ll get me through the difficult and probably frustrating part of learning the ins and outs of being a trainer.”
What do you consider your worst attributes? Be honest, now!
“Mm, can I use the cop out answer of ‘perfectionism’ or something like that?” She asked. When the interviewer shook their head she sighed in faux-disappointment and thought more carefully about the question. She wasn’t afraid to shy away from the parts of herself that could be considered negatives but that didn’t mean she liked calling attention to them either. “I have been told I’m not very good at tactfully giving criticism. Oh, I’ve been called bossy before for pushing another dancer during practice to keep going when she wanted to stop.”
She paused and pursed her lips as she remembered the incident. She personally didn’t feel she had done anything wrong. She shook her head a little, a strand of hair falling loose from her ponytail that she pushed behind her head again.
“I suppose I also don’t put much stock in sentimentality. My mom got so annoyed when she realized I’d thrown out my old Snorlax pillow plush. It had ripped and been worn down by then, but she wanted to hang on to it even if it wasn’t being used.” She smiled fondly at the memory. Physical things were silly to hold on to, but her memories would last her forever.
What was your childhood like? How was school?
“My parents often say I started to dance before I could walk. My dad likes to tell a story about the time when I kept taking my older brother’s action figures to make them waltz with my dolls.” Her laugh was cheerful and light, brought on by the memory and knowledge of how frustrated her brother must have been and how frustrated he professed to be when he heard the tale. “I apparently caused him so much grief they had to get him a lock for his door very early on. They say I was fascinated ever since!” She chuckled and recrossed her legs.
"My high school years were busier than most. I was in class all day then spent my evenings with a dance troupe. It was..well it was professional for high schoolers if that makes sense? We would put on shows and went to competitions, it was basically like how colleges will start recruiting from high schools." She shrugged carelessly and her jacket slipped further down her shoulder. "It was associated with a big-name group as kind of a feeder program, and if they found people to be promising they would help them find scholarships and funding for dance school if they needed it. I was with them for five years before I injured myself."
She took in a deep breath but shook her head at the interviewer’s offer of taking a break. “It’s fine. It happened, it’s over. We were vacationing near Snowpoint in Sinnoh. We were there for a week because of dad’s work, some big conference in Sinnoh.”
Brianna picked up her water and took a large drink to wet her throat and mouth. She put it back down on the table. She folded her hands in her lap, fingers interlaced together before she continued. “We went out to enjoy the snow. I lost control of my skis and hit a tree. I snapped a tendon and broke the bone, it required surgery and a year and a half of physical therapy to get it back to where it was.”
She shrugged, apparently completely unperturbed by what she was saying. “During that time I volunteered for a local battling club for kids. I helped with organizing things behind the scenes and gradually picked up a bit about battling. One of the breeders that provided pokemon for the shows had a Skitty that wasn't up to troupe standard and offered my parents a discount on him." She smiled ruefully. "I think they meant him as a distraction, and man does he fit that bill."
How is your relationship with your family?
“Pretty normal I’d say? My dad always has my back, same for my brother! My mom kinda takes a ‘what did you do?’ attitude first, I’m pretty sure that’s a hang over from her work. As a family we don’t really ‘chill’ I guess, even our vacations are packed tight with things to do! I get along pretty well with my brother. He tries to show me up on occasion but we both know I’m cooler.”
What do you like to do for fun?
The brunette sucked on her lower lip as she considered the question. Before it was dancing but now…
"I like to keep moving. I've started trying to play pick-up games of basketball lately, it's pretty fun. For a quieter day going shopping and having lunch is a fun choice. I like to stay busy but an organized busy, with a schedule you know? I have downtime penciled in and I don’t mind going along with someone else during those times as long as it’s not just sitting around in front of a tv watching a show or playing video games. Although I guess some of the dancing games and the workout ones can be pretty fun.”
What are your feelings on romance?
Brianna raised an eyebrow and gave the interviewer a pointed look. Really? Romance? “Is that really a necessary question?” At the nod from the interviewer across from her she sighed and continued speaking. “I suppose if it happens it happens. I’m not really looking for anything permanent right now, and I guess a partner that realizes they’re going to come second to my goals for a while would kind of be my ideal? I’m not the the type to slow down for others.”
What are your goals for the future? Short-term and long-term.
“My goals are to plan and fill out my team, and challenge the gyms. I want to specialize in normal types. Uhm, maybe in the far future I'd like to start a program that helps kids learn about battling? There was one that was kind of attached to my physical therapy, like it wasn’t the therapy itself but was offered alongside of it. I think it was meant to motivate us by having us work with pokemon who were pretty weak and then we could watch their strength grow as ours did, it was pretty cool.”
If you could be a Pokemon, what species or typing would you choose and why?
“A Minccino! Then my space would always be clean-but wait I'd still be the one cleaning it. Haha, uhm, if I'm being moer realistic I guess I'd be a Fighting type since I like physical activity so much. I'd like to be something strong but graceful, probably Gallade!"
What do Pokemon mean to you?
She had to think about the question for a long moment. She really didn’t have a lot of personal experience with pokemon beyond her parents’ partners, and then it had always felt awkward, like she was trespassing in someone’s private study. “When I was dancing I never really had any pokemon of my own, and my mom and dad both have close relationships with their partners. There were pokemon in the performances, sure, but they were often supplied by breeders who trained them specifically for performances but they were rented or owned by the dance troupe so they didn’t belong to any one person. I guess I’m still working on what Pokemon they are to me exactly.”
Anything else you'd like to tell us about before you go?
“I guess I should talk about why I’m going with Normal types huh? You kinda had a face earlier...hah yeah! That one. Well it can pretty much be summed up as I think they have the best balance between cute and strong.” She chuckled at the admission and waved a hand. “That’s not really the only reason though. I have a lot to learn about battling and pokemon in general but I like to focus my efforts, but only working with one pokemon species feels a little too focused. When I talked to a friend back in Hoenn he suggested I try mastering a type instead and after debating the merits of the types and doing some reading on my own I decided on Normal types! Well, at least pokemon who are primarily Normal-typing, I’m definitely going to dip into double-types at some point.”

Bri has a fondness for oversized jackets and coats but other than that she tends to dress for comfort and appearance over functionality. This can mean a crop top and a skirt, or pants and a long sleeve, but almost always there is the jacket. She wears sneakers, basketballs shoes, to ballet flats depending on what she’s going out to do.
Most often she wears her hair in a loose ponytail with her bangs free, but she always carries a collection of pins, headbands, and hairties in whichever oversized bag she's carrying with her at any given time.
Brianna’s aura is bright orange that shifts to yellow at the edges. It looks like a tangled mass of ribbons at the edges, or maybe a human shaped Tangela. Or maybe a very frayed, human-shaped piece of fabric. Either way the frayed edges become more distinct the stronger she feels.
