Set in the original region of Arciel, Legends Rising is a route-inspired, but not strictly route-based, Pokemon roleplay. Pick a faction, pick a class, and strike out into the wild to take on the League, master Contest coordination, research the mysteries of Pokemon and Arciel, and much, much more. Will you be a classic trainer? A criminal? A farmer? Choose your destiny on Legends Rising.
It wasn't the best day, winter was fast approaching as she could feel a coarse chill floating through her body, like it was trying to talk her out of going down the route today, make her stumble backwards- but she couldn't. Not today. Not with her rowdy squad of pokemon surrounding her- perhaps it hadn't been a good idea to let them all out of their balls to come with her, but otherwise she would have chickened out. But having a lot of pokemon out, at the very least, was good for a few things- for keeping reporters away, and from keeping her from being interacted with.
She hadn't tried as hard on her makeup this morning, and her hair was fluffier than it really should have been- she was sure her white shoes didn't match the dress she had on and she had a hoodie over the top instead of a blazer like an idiot- she was a fashion disaster, and nobody needed to flash her over the magazines or come up and tell her for her to know.
As per usual, Nymph, her Clauncher, was the closet to her side, gently skitting along the path they trailed down while nipping at Adelaide's dress seam ever so often in an attempt to keep her fro getting too distracted and overwhelmed. Zinnia, her Archen soared above her, scouting out the area and squawking everytime she saw something of note so Adelaide could follow her. Primrose, her Bayleef trotted along infront of Adelaide, sniffing out the area and just excited for the journey ahead. Lupine, her Bagon, was on Prim's back, he didn't really feel like walking today- he had gotten woken up after an unsustantial amount of shuteye after all! And Azalea, Adelaide's Togetic, was behind the girl, she'd gotten distracted a few times by a rustle in the grass and was more than eager to check it out.
To anybody, and even Adelaide, it was a strange site, half of her pokemon could be considered dinosaurs, but at the end of the day it got the job done. She'd be able to travel in peace- and nobody would come up to her... right?
The colors had already changed quite a bit. Winter was coming, and Shalin had prepared for the occasion - she wore a zipped windbreaker of a green shade slightly darker than her light green clothes underneath. It wasn't uncomfortably cold like it normally was this time of year back home, but it was cold enough that a stiff wind might leave her a bit numb afterward if she wasn't protected. As soon as she was clear of Cedar Town's city limits, Shalin released Prance and Flit, the Stantler sidestepping when the trainer tried to climb aboard. "Come on, girl, don't be that way," she said, gently patting the horned Pokémon's neck. She only got a snort for a reply before her partner calmed down and let her swing atop, the extra several feet of height giving her a great view of the Route. With a light kick to her Stantler's side, the low drone of Flit's wings added to the ambience around them, and the three were off.
Shalin had learned her lesson last time about racing full speed in unknown territory. Though the slope here was nowhere close to as steep as the one on the other side of Cedar Town, there was another river. If she didn't watch her surroundings, she could easily go flying into the drink - not a place she wanted to go in this weather. "No more than a canter unless I say otherwise, okay girl?" Nodding, Prance accelerated as instructed, the rider's long hair still flying behind her head. Flit bobbed from side to side before his curiosity saw him approaching another young girl surrounded by several Pokémon.
As Adelaide continued forward Zinnia, who was flying ahead, noticed the Yanmask's presence, and further located a girl riding towards them. A loud squawk left her lips, and Adelaide all but stopped in her steps, angling her head upwards to look at her pokemon. What was that noise for? Her head moved around, searching for what Archen had pointed out. Her other mons, more specifically Azalea who'd taken up the rear turned around and quickly got Adelaide's attention, gesturing to the stranger.
Immediately, her Bagon had hopped off of Bayleef's back and rushed forward, attempting an almost protective stance. Adelaide almost immediately began thinking of the worst- could the stranger want something? What if they were a travelling paparazzi, and they saw her like this? Did she look okay?! Was she going to stumble out of her words and make a fool out of herself?!
As the stranger, on the back of a pokemon came forward all of Adelaide's mons had their eyes trained on the newcomer, and the girl could only watch with wide eyes. A very soft, "...U-Uh....Hello..." Leaving her lips. She didn't quite know what to do.
Prance slowed the moment she saw all of the traveler's Pokémon, particularly a Bagon, forming a line to protect her. "Back, Flit!" Shalin quipped, the hovering insect quick to return to his partner's side. She started feeling warmer already, both from not having apparent wind in her face from her fast pace of travel as well as a nearby tree line blocking the wind almost completely. The wind made a big difference in apparent temperature this time of year.
The trainer and two Pokémon approached to about twenty feet before slowing to a stop, the hum of Flit's wings stopping with it upon landing behind and to one side of the Normal-type. "Hi!" Shalin's eyes subtly shifted between the wanderer and her Pokémon team. "Shalin Nariya, wildest rider this side of Arciel," she introduced herself, her mixed greens nowhere near as well-kept as the well-dressed girl's attire. "You headed through the hills and woods yonder?" she pointed toward the very distant Weeping Forest to the east. "If so, mind if I tag along?"

Adelaide's arms instinctively wrapped around herself for comfort, and to hide the slight shake in her body. The female had introduced herself, and more-so seemed kinda happy- that was... a good sign, right? She analysed the girl for a few seconds, attempting to see if any recognition was apparent on her face, but she got nothing. Wildest rider... didn't sound like a reporter name, or the name of somebody out to hurt her. It sounded safe.
"A...Adelaide..." She managed out, her head dropping in a bow before it rose again. Seeing Adelaide's willingness to talk, a few of her mons backed off slightly, more curious with the girl before them than on the defense. Adelaide's eyes widened, however, when she realized she was supposed to give an add on to her name, some background- something else. "I-I'm, uh, a c-coordinator..." was all but stuttered out, the frenzy almost apparent in her tone.
Perhaps they'd just be a passerby and let her be- let her on her way? She could only hope as much, right? However, her hopes got stuck in her throat as she girl asked to tag along. She crossed and uncrossed her arms, it'd be rude to decline- the girl knew she was a coordinator so she could probably find out who Adelaide was and go and trash her name to others, ruin her events- some people were spiteful like that- the girl could probably do whatever she wanted if Adelaide declined- right?
Adelaide gave her a once over, her bottom lip caught for a moment between her teeth in a nervous chew before she shook her head. "Ah... y-yes... it's.... it's okay. Uhm..." Say something, Adelaide, anything! "It'd be... like, uhm... very g-good to have a travelling partner?" It came out as more of a stumbled question, but... she was trying.
Shalin was taken aback by Adelaide's apparent stage fright - that was quite an unusual quality for a Coordinator, of all people, to have. "Don't be shy!" she reassured her. "Just think of me as another member of your local audience." While Contests weren't very popular in her home region of Johto, she had seen them before in her trip through Hoenn. She even entered one. While the judges weren't exactly thrilled with her performance, her audience was. Whether it was merely out of respect or they genuinely enjoyed her performance will forever remain a mystery.
"I was mostly looking for a traveling partner because of how long the trail is," she continued, gesturing toward the hills in the distance. "Arciel really does have a little of everything to offer." She droned on for a bit about her earlier travels across Arciel's west coast before realizing a couple of minutes have passed. "Sorry, I got a little carried away!" With that, she pointed eastward, Prance following the flat (for now) trail toward the woods.
Think of her as a member of her local audience?! Arceus, that just made everything worse- people in audiences judge, they spread rumours and say stuff on social media- these days they're out for blood- and the locals can be especially rude. Shalinr wouldn't... would she?!
"I-I'm... i'm not shy...." She managed out, in a weak attempt to defend herself- she didn't come off as shy right?! That's the oppsoite of what she intended, like, the complete opposite. If she came off as shy, then she came off as incompetant- does that mean that's another ipression down the drain and fed to the magikarps?
She continued to fidgit, and Primrose bent her head down to brush gently against Adelaide's side, in an attempt to keep her calm and in the here and now. For the most part, it did seem to help level the girls head, and she was able to tune in to what the girl was saying. Her hands continued to run through her on hair in an attempt to keep her moving as she walked, nodding along every so often.
"U-Uhm... no... it's... i-it's alright..." Adelaide attempted a smile, though it seemed rather forced. "It sounds like you've had, e-er.... quite the a-adventure... I- uh, actually am not.. local to the region, actually..." She sighed softly through her nose "So all i've... really seen is birch- how pretty is west chaku, m-might i ask?" It came out as more of a stumbled question, but... she was trying.
Trying to comfort her wasn't working at all--if anything, it made Adelaide more reclusive. "Don't force yourself to do anything you don't want to--" Shalin covered her mouth--that sort of talk wouldn't help her! She knew she came off as matter-of-fact, but it never sunk in until she made people completely close off from her. She was growing increasingly flustered herself.
As the two made their way to ground that was less mountainous and more hilly, she was startled by a loud, menacing-sounding guitar riff. She instinctively covered her ears, a yellow blur from behind a couple of trees catching her eye. Peeking her head around them, she sighted a young boy impressively shredding guitar. When he noticed Flit approaching, he stopped his fast-paced tune and shouted in an almost metallic voice, "Can you beat the metal? Miss, I bet you can't beat the metal!" His Minun glared back at the two, egging Shalin on.
"Now look what trouble you've gotten me into," Shalin muttered, feeling obligated to give the young man his wish. She faced the headbanging guitarist. "What if I told you I could beat your so-called metal?"
"No one beats me, Henrik, at the metal, and Minun here will show you why!" With that, Henrik started up his fast-paced death metal once more as his Minun raced toward Flit so fast that by the time Shalin could see, it had already collided with her Pokémon. Flit's reaction time far faster than his Trainers, he was able to dart away from the charge to make it only a glancing blow.
"Now, show him your own charge!" Flit's wings accelerated to the point where Henrik turned his amp up a notch to drown out the buzzing. Being much more nimble than the small, yellow Pokémon, Flit was able to make micro-adjustments during his charge to land a solid blow to the foe's chest. The Electric-type slid back across the dirt road, shaking its head.
Henrik muttered some barely audible lyrics that Shalin could not make out at all as Flit gave chase to keep the Minun down. "DIE!" As if on Henrik's cue, the Minun jumped to its feet and latched onto Flit in an instant, covering itself and its adversary in a wave of sparks. Flit's wings quickly became too stiff to keep him aloft.
Desperate to try to get the Minun off him, Flit scraped the small Pokémon against the ground, the blue-eared rat yielding its hold on him. He raised his teeth, but the added stiffness in his muscles caused him to mistime the powerful strike. "THREE...TWO...ONE...GO!" As if on cue with his trainer's merciless guitar shredding, Minun jumped back onto Flit's head, latched on, and loosed sparks all over the front half of its body. Flit let out a squeal, twitching for a few seconds before losing consciousness. Shalin fell to her knees before recalling her fallen Pokémon. "Hey! Why don't you just get up and dance, man?" her victorious opponent teased.

As the girl told her to not force herself, she found herself nodding softly- though she was fairly used to forcing herself to do many things, especially through life- if she didn't she'd probably never have left her room back in Sinnoh. Walking, with her rag-tag group of pokemon and Shalin's in toe, a squawk from Archen up above alerted her to something nearby, said pokemon eagerly taking off to fly into the distance. "A-Ah, Zinnia!" She yelled, eyes wide.
An apology barely fluttered past her lips as she stumbled off after her Archen, only stopping when finding her perched above a tree, two stray yellow bottle things laying abandoned just against the bark. What sort of trainer left these here?! Adelaide's eyes were wide, glancing left and right- could they be dangerous?! Were they bombs? Could they go off at any second?! Without thinking she grabbed one up, moving it slowly, cautiously towards herself, popping the top in an attempt to smell it.
It... didn't smell dangerous- so maybe it was... okay? Either way, there was nobody around, and she didn't want any wild pokemon hurting themselves by stumbling upon it when it could have a chance of being super bad, she'll just... pocket it for now. With a soft, "Good girl, Zin~" she quickly moved back to where she last was, where the rest of her pokemon stood, almost in shock of the peculiar scene before them.
Some dude with a guitar was... taunting Shalin? Was this soe some of angsty teen robbery?! She hadn't any money to give! "I- uhm-" Adelaide had begun shaking, unsure what to do- the girl she had only known a few minutes was on her knees, had this man hurt her?! "Can you- u-uhm- please... go, maybe?"
Her voice was soft, and she fidgited a few times. Her pokemon, noticing her sudden change in demeaner stepped forward, her huge dinosaur mons moving forward, closer- and closer to the menacing guitar guy until-
"That's not very metal!!!" He ran off, pokemon and guitar in hand. Adelaide was shaking, she didn't know what to do- but Shalin was on the ground- was... what did she miss? "...Are...a-are you alright?"
By the time Adelaide had found Shalin, she had risen back to her feet. "I'll be okay. Just some maniac who had his amp a couple notches too high. There's a reason they tell you not to turn it up to eleven. Flit's hurt after our battle, though - he needs a rest." She peered inside Flit's Poké Ball - her partner was already fast asleep. "Good," she added. There was no shortage of crazy people in Arciel, as she quickly learned. That would be the case anywhere, though.
"Let's just forget all this happened and keep going," Shalin suggested, swinging back aboard Prance. She had her left hand on a second Poké Ball just in case. "I like intense music, but his was just way too loud. It's one of the reasons I never see live stuff. It's like they want to make you leave the place deaf. Seems counter-intuitive if you ask me." With that, she guided the Normal-type back to the main road and toward a river ahead.
Adelaide is understandably confused and doesn't exactly understand the music lingo, and was almost glad as the girl swung herself back onto her pokemon to continue moving. Adjusting herself and attempting to shake off lingering concern she continued forwards, gently being nudged along by Primrose who'd decided to take up the back while the rest of her pokemon continued ahead of her. Adelaide still struggled to comprehend exactly what Shalin was saying, having never left her home town after her... incident, and only just being new to Arciel, so the girl just nodded her head, "...M-Maybe... people just wish to... feel t-the music?"
If she had disagreed, or said she'd never seen a concert she could see this girl attacking her and telling the whole world that she was uncultured, and usually when Adelaide disagrees with people they get mad! She really doesn't want to make people mad, or get anything else said about her- she just want's to get famous with no hitches or bumps in the road- that's it!
Nearing a lake now, Archen let out a soft call to remind Adelaide to focus, "We...we could take a stop here for a m-moment to let the pokemon drink and g-gather energy, if... if you want- ifnotthatstotallyokaythough." Her words were rushed and ended up getting mangled and smooshed together, if Shalin didn't want to stop she didn't want to get in the girls way.

Shalin perked up the moment she heard Adelaide bring up the idea of resting at the lake she pointed out. "I need to help patch up Flit anyway. I'm not opposed to resting for a bit," Shalin agreed, Prance taking a turn toward the lake. It was a small one--more of a very wide portion of the river feeding to Arciel's west coast than a true lake. "The whole 'up to eleven' thing is a joke among rock concert goers. Most amplifiers have ten volume settings, but some have an eleventh, often not labeled on the dial. Ever pass by someone who has their car stereo way too high? It's like that."
It was a bit chilly by the lake, but nothing too uncomfortable. Once the trainers had arrived at the lakefront, Shalin slid off her mount, sitting down on the grass near the lakefront. When she stretched her legs, she let out a sharp cry, laying down and rolling out of the way of whatever it was she sat on. It was an Apricorn sticking out of the ground, its stem poking straight up. It must have pierced her leg! She picked it up and stored it with the rest of her belongings, checking to make sure there were no other surprises before sitting back up.
"Hopefully he's okay," Shalin sighed, releasing a still-tired Flit. "Just want to make sure you're okay, alright?" Eager to comply, the Yanma turned in place at his partner's request, letting her examine his wounds.
Adelaide is even more confused as Shalin speaks- rock concerts... volume settings... it... sorta made sense? But she hasn't been to a concert before in her life- music terminology basically flies right over her head! A soft, barely audible, "I... G-Guess that makes sense..." Left her lips as she continued forth- rest time for her pokemon, time to get them all checked out, maybe have them stop for a drink...
A few of them, primarily Clauncher and Bagon were on the defensive, especially seeing how Adelaide hadn't managed to relax at all! As they neared the river she gently urged them all to sit down, letting out a soft laugh as her giant Bayleef plopped down right where she stood- the girl moved closer to the pokemon, sitting down next to her and leaning into her, Bayleef always was incredibly calming to be around, and Adelaide adored that. She watched for a moment as Shalin checked on her own pokemon, however quickly noticed something out of the corner of her eye.
A strange red and white pokemon seemed to be attempting to get a drink too, though he seemed slightly intimidated with all the pokemon around. "Oh- uh, h-hello buddy..." She coo'd, moving to a standing position and attempting to smile at the pokemon, who gave her a curious stare. "Uhm... d-don't be scared! We're f-friendly, right?" She glanced to Shalin, as if expecting an answer before turning back to them and moving closer.
"Uh- actually- y-you're really pretty, buddy- uhm..." She shuffled around, "W-would you be interested in pokemon contests, b-by any chance?" Her head tilted, and she moved to offer the pokemon a ball.

By the time Adelaide had finished recruiting the Zangoose, Shalin had finished performing first aid on Flit. Ultimately, it was a temporary solution, and he would need to be seen at a Pokémon Center. At the very least, he would be in a lot less pain. She gently pat the top of her Yanma's Poké Ball. "You get some rest, okay?" Clipping it back to her belt, she replaced it with another of her Pokémon. "Come on out, Caprice!"
What emerged from the Ball was a Vulpix that stood halfway up her Trainer's chest. Her very presence made her Trainer smile. The moment she touched the ground, she caught sight of Adelaide, she scampered back, putting Shalin between herself and the other Trainer. "No need to be shy!" No response other than six fidgety tails. The green-clad girl faced the Coordinator once again. "Ready to hit the road again?"
Adelaide let out what must have been a squeak as the Delibird accepted her ball, an excited look flashing through their cute, pokemon eyes before the took her ball- oh- oh this was great! A very soft laugh of pure giddyment left Adelaide's lips before she quickly cut herself off, realizing that there was infact another trainer here- yeah- right- if she began toact weird Shalin would probably start saying weird things about her, and then the nes would have a fieldday on the new contest up and comer who took pokemon training as an utter joke!
Adelaide, get yourself together! The girl moved to gently stroke on the side of the Delibird's face, enjoying for a few seconds the soft coo's the creature made before Shalin broke the silence, and Adelaide's hand snapped away from her pokemons fairly quickly.
Oh- right- their journey. The girl managed to stutter out a soft "Y-Yeah, sorry- uhm...i'm...ready." She moved to glance to her other mons, who'd begun standing and getting back in position around her, smiling momentarily at Shalin and her pokemon before the expression quickly wiped from her features. . "L...Lead the way."
"Will do!" Standing up and heading a short distance from the small lake, Shalin summoned Prance once more, the trainer quick to scamper aboard with Caprice following behind. The two travelers and their Pokémon continued eastward, elevation increasing more noticeably as they approached the mountain range. Its foothills loomed ahead, and the Weeping Forest was on the horizon. "Wonder how the Weeping Forest got its name?" Shalin casually asked Adelaide.
As Prance continued trotting up the hill, a young lady dressed in lavender and pink cried out to Shalin, "My Pokémon needs some exercise, miss. You have time for a quick battle, right?" Great. At least she wasn't as intrusive as the obnoxious guitarist from before. Shalin's only reply was holding up her chin with her right palm. She was already down one Pokémon, and being down another might make travel tougher than it needed to be.
"Sure," she sighed, against her better judgment, Caprice quick to start barking at the flower girl. Smiling, Shalin's opponent released a jet lizard Pokémon with a tail that wavered like an open flame. She had never seen this Pokémon before. There was only one way to find out what it was like and how it was in combat--head-on.
"Heat Wave!" Shalin cried, Caprice running toward the black reptile before loosing a six-layered heat pulse from her tails. Her foe reeled back a bit at the first wave, the other five washing over it--almost like the Pokémon enjoyed the extreme heat. "Must be a fire-type," Shalin deduced. Let's go for a direct assault, then! Charge that thing into the ground!"
"Dragon Rage."
"Caprice, no!" Too late. Just as Caprice was about to pounce the Salandit, a wide open, royal purple maw spewed holy flames of a similar color. She immediately reached for her Vulpix's empty Ball. Her first effort to recall Caprice was a miss, the purple flames distorting her ally's position. The fur surrounding the Vulpix's face had been singed a light shade of royal purple in the blast. Her aim more true, she was able to recall her Pokémon successfully the second time around.
Shalin now peering into Caprice's now-occupied Ball more closely, the wounds to her Vulpix's face were staggering. As long as she kept her in there, she would probably make it. Any more exposure than necessary to the elements prior to a Pokémon Center visit, though, and her prized Fire-type would be in serious jeopardy. The flower girl looked like a nervous wreck, unable to bring herself to a verbal apology. Anyone could tell she was sorry from her body language. That Pokémon, if she saw it again, would be one to run far and fast from.
ooc: Caprice is incapacitated until the next Pokémon Center visit or a revival consumable is used on her. {WC: 457} {PC: 8}
