Set in the original region of Arciel, Legends Rising is a route-inspired, but not strictly route-based, Pokemon roleplay. Pick a faction, pick a class, and strike out into the wild to take on the League, master Contest coordination, research the mysteries of Pokemon and Arciel, and much, much more. Will you be a classic trainer? A criminal? A farmer? Choose your destiny on Legends Rising.
A main quest objective was gonna be cleared today, Gaki was sure of it! All the necessary gear had been stowed away in her inventory, and she was all but ready to receive a trusty pokemon who'd be able to protect the farm for her and improve the overall experience for LARP players-probably to be a friend too, but Gaki'd never really been around pokemon before, having spent a lot of her time locked away staring at a screen, funny how your objectives of life can change quick! She almost felt like she was going to be mastering a new real life class, in a way- like a summoner, probably? Gaki Amabie, a summoner. Oh how the turn-tables..
Walking down the path to where she supposed the lab was, Gaki has earbuds plugged in both ears, connecting to her old DS system as she idly played through another day of harvest moon- she was so close to completing year four on her 6th save file... she just had to give her chosen girl the final gift and she could actually marry her! Gaki was so held up she hadn't seen the lab come into focus, only following the path that she could see out of the corner of her eyes- so when she slammed her body full force into the window of the building with a loud BAM!
"ACK!?" A surprised noise left the girls mouth, as she instinctively clutched the system to her chest. What was that?! Was she under attack from a beginner beast? Her eyes flicked up from the console and took in her surroundings, eyes only narrowing upon seeing the enemy in the way- the dastardly window. A tear threatened to release from her eye at the shock from the impact, however she shook her head a few times, willing it away. Nuh-uh. She isn't letting some inanimate see-through wall beat her, not when she was so close to advancing the main story!
One breath, two breaths, and Gaki was on her feet, console clutched tightly to herself as she stumbled towards the door. As she moved to open it her gaze flicked back to the window, and an angry mumble of "...fuck off...stupid window." left her lips before she advanced into the building, she should have expected such a bump in the road, they always had something like that on the way to main quests! Let's just forget that it was Gaki not paying attention that lead to the collision in the first place.
Swallowing the suddenly massive lump in her throat and attempting to ignore the ache spreading across her body she mumbled out, "Uh- here for a companion?" A pause, the girl moved to take out a headphone as she looked around the place- so quaint... so... cute. Clicking her tongue and stuffing her hands in her pockets to hold back the aww that threatened to unleash she further announced: "Amabie, Gaki- that's my name."

The Professor had heard the thud from out back and had come investigating, expecting it to be one of the Pokemon running amok. Instead, she'd had the pleasure of watching the poor girl make her way to the door. She stood back in the hallway to hide some silent laughter and waited until Gaki called out. Taking out her phone, she checked on the appointments and expected visitors.
"Amabie," she repeated as she stepped out, her usual blase look on her face, "Good of you to make it." Putting her phone away, she went to the front desk and pulled out some papers. "Here, fill these out real quick. It helps us choose your companion based on your personality and needs." With that explained, she would stand back with her arms crossed idly. Holly would be there to answer any questions the new trainer had as she waited to get an idea of what this girl could use in a partner before she'd go to the back for the Pokemon.
Gaki was thankful the professor hadn't seen anything, really- she'd probably just end up insulting the woman and that wouldn't end good at all... so yay. Her eyes followed the lady almost nervously as she moved to the desk, pulling out some papers and... something about choosing a companion based on personality?! "...Kay." This was totally like the opening of a game, like when they chose a guild or a partner based on how you answer the questions- was she gonna have to fib to get the best possible results?
But... she kinda wanted a mon who'd be able to keep up with her antics- not like the professor would judge her or anything, right? Shifting her hands out of her pocket and taking the papers into her hands, Gaki leaned against the desk and filled them out, "This is like a game prologue..." she said softly, more to herself than anything, before realizing the professor could have heard and puffing out her cheeks to keep herself quiet.
She didn't know what to say or how to interact, so she just scribbled like mad, her eyes focused right on the paper before she turned around and gave the paper with a mumbled, "Here- happy?"

Professor Holly waited patiently, trying not to hover by instead watching some of the free roaming Pokemon. While she did hear Gaki's remark, she decided not to say anything in return. It was probably way too similar to a game prologue, but if she wanted a good partner, she still had to fill it out. Sure, applicants could lie to try getting a certain kind of partner, but that was up to them.
Once it was finished and handed back, Holly rose her brows at the question. "I mean, not if you aren't. I'm here to help. Sorry it's a bit of an annoyance to fill paperwork out--I get that--but it's a necessary evil." With that, she looked over the paper and then nodded.
"I'll be right back," she assured and walked off before coming back a few minutes later with three Pokeballs and a bag of items. Depressing the buttons on each, she released them and then held out her hands. "Which do you think suits you best, Miss Amabie?"
Did it come out like she was annoyed? Gaki pressed her lips together, hesitantly biting back saying more to the professor. She didn't really mean to sound annoyed... but she means, if it helps- then it was like a necessary boss battle that'd give her the key items for the new raid event, or something. "...traditionally filling it out sucks.." She managed out, a shrug to her shoulders. "...but...I answered honestly- so..."
Gaki awkwardly stood there as the professor walked away- this was it. Where her companion would be chosen- when a soul-bond was formed, a bond between player and their helper. What if none of them would have decent enough stats to keep her safe? There was a science to choosing a partner- damage, attack, compatibility with the class you've chosen... that sorta thing.
It felt like she was stuck in a loading screen, standing there, idly waiting. Her gaze moved around as she took in the mons doing their daily duty, moving, chirping, crying... Her heart softened slightly and her hands moved out of her pockets to fidget with her jumper strings. She had to resist patting them! As much as she refused to let it show, she was anxious, and excited. This was going to be something good, this was one step closer to her ultimate dream (that only formed a few months ago)!
At the professors voice she spun around, eyes flicking from the pokeballs in her hands up to her face. This was it, the key moment of her storyline that would lead her forth in her quest- the defining moment of her new life- and she couldn't even save! She could only watch with widened eyes as the pokemon were released, their small forms appearing on the floor infront of her- and Gaki couldn't help the excited gasp that left her lips.
Oh- oh they were cute! They were cute. The Turtwig had looked around hesitant before noticing Popplio and moving over to the water type, batting his tiny arm at the blue pokemon, who let out an excited cry and nuzzled his head towards the Turtwig. Cyndaquil was bounding on the spot, large and towering over the other two, she seemed to be scouting out her surroundings before noticing Gaki. A squeak left her lips before she all but rushed over towards Gaki, staring up at her questioningly. The other two, noticing what the Cyndaquil was doing rushed up behind her.
Oh! Oh! What did Gaki do?! The girl hesitantly crouched down and offered a hand to the Cyndaquil, who ducked her head and allowed her to pat her. She was smooth- and her flame... she could be strong, She could defend the farm and be a good warrior pokemon- maybe she'd even be able to put armour on her and ride her one day, perfect for a brawler like Gaki! (not that she was very good at the class, though).
"...I think i'll.." Gaki's voice paused as a squeak from besides the Cyndaquil got her attention. Gaki's eyes moved to the sound only to find the Turtwig staring up at her, tiny, precious... cute... so cute... It blinked out at her and let out a cry, and Gaki moved her hand from the Cyndaquil, who for a moment seemed sad before moving on to play with the Popplio, an excited noise leaving her lips as the Popplio began playfully batting her with his nose.
Gaki held her hand out to the tiny Turtwig, trying to hold back the excited grin that threatened to break onto her face. The Turtwig stared at her for a few moments before bouncing on the spot and ramming his tiny head into her palm, and Gaki couldn't help she soft 'aww' that left her lips. Oh- oh fuck. He was cute- he wouldn't be good at defending the farm but... her heart felt full. She was drawn to him.
Her hand moved to run over the pokemon, tickling under his chin and all but beaming at his reactions and coo's. She was taking a while, but she couldn't help it, playing with this little guy, who at one point had ended up in her lap attempting to reach at her hand, which she held slightly above his head. "...You're so cute...you can do it, leaf friend, reach up- the hand is a mantrap, get it's hp down- again!" She mumbled out, tilting her head and smiling down at the mon, who only squeaked back at her.
Tanky- defensive. That could work, right? She... didn't know how she could justify her choice to Sid, they'd probably be disappointed she didn't go for such a beast that Cyndaquil was, especially when looking at it from a strategy aspect but this little guy had won over her heart.
"he...will be my support companion, professor." Gaki quickly attempted to straighten out her expression as she shifted to get up, holding the Turtwig out to the professor in her arms- said pokemon letting out a variation of excited squeaks as he wiggled in her grasp. "he is a good leaf."
There was a pause as she moved to bring the tiny Turtwig towards her, holding him near her chest. "...What are his affection-gaining gifts like- what sort of berries should I go for?" There was a quick aversion of her gaze as she returned her attention to the Turtwig, "...not that I care, or anything."

Although she did wish she could go back to her normal work, Holly knew that choosing your starter was an incredibly important part of anyone's journey. So, she waited patiently and observed the interactions between Pokemon and trainer. She actually quite expected Gaki to go with the Cyndaquil, but as her attention turned more onto the Turtwig, Holly thought it might be an even better fit. Grass-types tended to help more with farmers, from what she knew.
Once Gaki made her decision, the Professor gave a nod and handed her the bag of supplies and the Pokeball for the Turtwig. Returning the other two, Holly shook her head. "Honestly, you kind of lucked out with that choice. He's not a picky eater at all. There were no adverse effects to any berries and I couldn't see a preference for anything in particular. Anything else I can assist you with?" Although she wouldn't admit it, the woman was pretty impressed Gaki would ask such a question. She wanted very much to take care of the Pokemon to the best of her ability and Holly was pleased that the Turtwig would be going to a good home.
