She was only planning on a quick trip back to Pine. After all, her job was one that could be done on her schedule, and she didn't have any reason not to be staying in Cherry for a while, but she also needed to get some more things from home--and prepare said home for her to be away longer than planned--before she set up any other "base of operations" for the next couple of weeks. Her computer, some more clothes, making sure she didn't leave anything unlocked or have any time-sensitive letters in her mailbox...it wasn't anything big and important, so it was easy to do a quick flight here and back, without feeling too rushed one way or another.
It was a little late for the dinner rush as she went through the familiar rustic streets of Pine, her shimmering golden Sableye perched on her shoulder and a bickering pair of quite small Pokemon seated on her handbag--one a Joltik, hardly five inches tall, and the other an Ivysaur smaller than even its prior evolution! She was just looking for a place to grab a late dinner, since she had nothing in the apartment and wasn't going to go grocery shopping when she'd be out of town for two weeks at least. That'd be silly.
There was a pretty nice place she'd go past on the way into the heart of Pine. She's stopped to read the menu on the glass and peek into the windows, but it was always pretty crowded when she went out shopping or to file her work with the mining guild, and Senara did not like crowds. She did not do crowds. The stint in the hotel only reaffirmed that in her mind. However with the late hour and it being in the middle of the week, maybe it was a little less busy tonight? Would they let her have her Pokemon out with her? Baby Girl got a lot of looks from miners who didn't recognize her as Senara's Pokemon, but they weren't in the mines. She would be well behaved, as would the two tiny ones still chattering away in her bag. Maybe it'd be worth it to check it out.
She reached the establishment and peeked in through the glass. There were still people in there having late dinner or cocktails or whatever, but there was a lot less than when it was closer to "normal people" dinner time. Senara looked herself over quickly. She was dressed alright for this, right? Nobody in there looked dressed to the nines, and it was in a mining town, but the people inside still looked neat and tidy. She'd look fine in her simple tan sweater-dress and black boots. Not really "formal", but still pretty nice.
Senara stepped through the door and smiled at the hostess who greeted her. "Table for one, please. And three Pokemon," she giggled softly, giving Baby Girl's cheek a small scratch, "Preferably away from the windows?" The hostess nodded, picking up a menu, and with a quick "Follow me!" lead her to a table not too far from the kitchen doors. She set the menu down and Senara took her seat, hanging her bag on the back of it. Etolie and Veneur jumped out and got comfortable under the chair, while Baby Girl climbed to sit on the table opposite her trainer, claws occasionally hovering over the lit candle on it.
The hostess left with a promise of water for both Senara and her Pokemon, and Senara started browsing the menu. Mm, it had been a long time since she'd been out to eat. Since she was in Cedar Town, wasn't it? Arceus she should get out more, but...crowds.
Baby Girl glanced over at the door to the kitchen, which Senara didn't notice. Something was making her ears twitch, almost like when she was around the funny psychic guy.
Koray was busy in the kitchen that day making sure that everything was prepped and ready to go. The restaurant wasn't entirely busy that day, but he liked to use these slow moments to get ahead of the rush that was bound to come later. Still, it was nice to have a moment where Koray felt like he could breathe again. Not to mention it gave him a chance to rest and actually slow down for five minutes. He was busy chopping some vegetables up for a salad when his dad came in and asked when Koray'd had a break last. After a few moments of weak excuses and stammering to try and find some reason to keep working, Koray finally relented and headed to the break room with food in hand. The perks of working in a restaurant: free food.
Meanwhile, Rowan was satisfied that he'd finally managed to get Koray to rest. The Phantump had been the one to tell Koray's dad about how busy he was keeping himself even after being injured. It would take Rowan a few moments to check in on Koray who grumbled about being forced to take a break before the Phantump went into the dining room. Sometimes it was just fun to see who the patrons were that day after all. Ohh, and there was a Sableye out even! The gold coloring made Rowan pretty certain that it wasn't Smeagol thank Arceus. That was the last thing Koray needed, to try and reign in the unruly Sableye while still feeling out of sorts.
Waving at the Sableye, Rowan made his way over, curious as to what a Sableye was doing out. He noticed the other pokemon too of course, but was more intrigued by the presence of another ghost like him.

Let's see. There were options for people and Pokemon alike, and a few items that read as safe to be consumed by both. The portions looked a little big for her to want to get more than one, though, so Senara went through the menu and occasionally would turn it out towards Baby Girl or slip it down to be seen by the two under her chair.
Etolie was the pickiest of the bunch--she turned down every purely vegetarian option, the little bug wanted meat! Veneur seemed only interested in getting a fizzy drink. Baby Girl was pointing at a few of the more expensive plates and flashing sneaky little grins at Senara who only met them with a flat stare. "Je ne te commande pas de steak. Vous n'aimez même pas beaucoup le steak." Senara flipped back to the pastas. If the meat portion was big, too, then one of these would be fine. She could probably bring any leftovers with her back to Cherry. Lord knows Polochon would eat them in a heartbeat.
She registered that somebody had approached the table before she looked to see who--or what--it was, but Baby Girl spotted them first waving at her. A Phantump? How neat! And another shiny as well. She gave a curious rumble of greeting through sharp, smiling teeth, just in time for Senara to look up. "Oh, are you our waiter?" Senara smiled softly, teasing, quite sure that this little guy was no the waitstaff. "What a sweet little ghoul you are. And what beautiful white bark and blue eyes. Did Baby Girl get your attention?~"
Baby Girl chittered at her trainer and back to the Phantump. <Mama's just joking. Hi-hi, pretty sprout. Nice to meet ya!> She leaned off the table, yellow-sapphire eyes glinting from the faint candle light, to get a better look at Rowan. <Ooh, such cool red leaves...>
Koray Starr WC: 332 Baby Girl "speaks" for the first time!
Rowan was quite interested in this shiny Sableye that looked so similar yet different from the troublesome Smeagol that Koray had found one day. The lady that the Smeagol referred to as 'mama' spoke weirdly. Tilting his head, Rowan blinked slowly, wondering what she was saying in the first place. A soft laugh escaped Rowan when he did understand her and shook his head. Though he did end up blushing at the compliments. At the question asked of him, the Phantump floated down next to Baby Girl to make it easier for her to see him, he didn't want her falling! Though.. he could probably catch her and carry her! She certainly looked small enough.
Hi! I'm Rowan! You look so pretty too~! the Phantump chimed, blushing again at the compliment about their leaves, My trainer has a Sableye too, but not as pretty and sparkly or nice as you! Smeagol is a mean troublesome one... Is your trainer named 'mama'? That's a weird name. Rowan giggled, knowing that was probably not the case.
D'aaw, how precious! The shiny little (well, "little", it was actually pretty big) Phantump had seated itself right next to Baby Girl and the two were chattering away. Senara beamed at them from over the menu. Well. Whoever owned them had certainly raised them up to be friendly, but perhaps a little too friendly? Senara was a stranger after all. If she were the sort of criminal with less scruples, Phantump could've been in danger. But luckily for them and their yet unseen trainer she would never try to take another person's Pokemon. Not even if they were shiny and absolutely adorable. She could still be envious as all get-out, though. They'd be such a gorgeously terrifying Trevenant.
Baby Girl snickered, the sound slightly wheezy as she tried to keep it quieter than normal. <Nah nah nah, her name's not mama. I just call her that, since she's like, you know, a mom! And it fits her name for me.> Now that he was close enough, Baby Girl raised a golden claw to gently fiddle with his leafs. He really did have such pretty leafs. She loved the color red--it reminded her of rubies, one of her favorite snacks. Yum. And his white bark reminded her of moonstone!...oof, she was going to get hungry at this rate. <She calls me Baby Girl. Or "her baby", or "my baby girl". It probably sounds weird when she says it though. I don't speak, uh...> She waved a paw dismissively. <Whatever it is humans call their words around here. I only know the ones she speaks.>
"Faites-vous un nouvel ami, petite fille?" Senara chuckled. Baby Girl's grin grew wider and she nodded, then, looking at Rowan, pointed back to her trainer. <Those words.>
From under Senara's chair, a long green vine slipped up and tapped on the menu, trying to get attention back to the ordering of actual food. A small squeaky. <I WANT MEAT!> followed it, then followed by a quieter, amused <Shush, you teensy carnivore...>. Senara gave a sideways glance at the vine before poking it away with her finger.
"I'm just waiting for the waitstaff, you're both terrible. Actually, since I have you here," she looked at the Phantump again, "Jolies feuilles, do you have a favorite meal here, for a Ghost-type and a Grass-type like yourself? I'm torn between them--they all look nice."
Rowan laughed at how Baby Girl fiddled with his leaves. It tickled! As the Sableye explained however, he nodded. That made sense but didn't really answer what the human's name was. The words that the human spoke were weird and well, Rowan didn't know what to make of it. That was when two other voices spoke up and the Phantump looked over to see who was complaining and had to laugh at the Joltik and Ivysaur. Why hello there! Rowan greeted, smiling brightly at the other two before the human spoke in words he could understand.
Ah, he could leave and get Koray really quick if they were waiting too long? But he was finally resting and... maybe just a little longer? A waiter should be coming out soon... When the human asked about his favorite meal however, Rowan's eyes brightened. Ohhh, but that was so hard. Everything here was so good but... he did have a favorite. Pointing to the item in question, Rowan pantomimed rubbing his stomach in the universal sign of yummy. Or did it mean hungry? Either way, hopefully it would get the message across.
Meanwhile, Koray had woken up from his unplanned nap and was trying to figure out where Rowan went. He was here earlier, wasn't he? Rowan? There was concern leaking through that thought that had the Phantump straightening, looking over to Baby Girl. My human's awake. I better go see him. He worries when I am gone, you see, Rowan explained, already starting to feel that worry spike more. While Rowan knew that Koray could easily sense his presence and find him, it would be far easier if the Phantump just left. Hopefully this human would permit him to leave quickly...

Senara had to gently swat to get Veneur's vine away from the menu, which he was still tapping incessintly through her short conversation with the Phantump. Cheeky little toad. She held it instead at an angle that Rowan could point to what he recommended. His little hand tapped at what looked to be a dessert of all things which earned her a small but genuine giggle. "I see! I will order one of those then. Do you have a sweet tooth, jolies feuilles?" Not like she was one to judge. Though...she was wondering, now, if it would look funny for her to order a dessert for what was essentially her dinner. It wasn't like anybody here would know that this was her dinner. She could have had it at home and just wanted something fancy now. It wasn't that crowded anyway.
Though she would probably need to order, like, a single meatball to keep Etolie happy.
"That looks lovely...let's see, where is the waitress..." Senara set the menu down and glanced around the relatively calm restaurant. Baby Girl, though, keened back in on Rowan as he explained why he had to run. She tilted her head, yellow diamond eyes catching the light of the candle. <Your human? That reminds me. I feel some strange thing back in the kitchen, like somebody else we know. I think one of your chefs has powers. Like us. But not really. I don't know, I haven't been paying attention to all the details about these weird "special" humans.> It was all very confusing. As a Dark-type she was just glad she could block out the mental blabbing that Coccinelle put out at all times, but when humans could do it too...yeesh. <Mama can apparently do something but, like, it gives her a headache, so she doesn't do it a lot. Anyway. Have fun!>
Senara, oblivious managed to catch the waitress and pointed out the item on the menu that Rowan had suggested. Said waitress took immediate note of Rowan, smiled a little, and went back to taking Senara's order. And she didn't even break stride when Senara added "a single meatball, if you can, on a small plate" to the order.
There were weirder orders.
Baby Girl chittered to get her attention again. "Hm? Qu'Est-ce que c'est?" She looked at the Phantump, who seemed to be glancing back at the kitchen door. Ah, their trainer must be back there. Or they had to get back to "work", if this little one did any sort of work. A ghost could still do, like, dishes, or something. Though every time Senara tried to enlist Baby Girl's help with chores she just whined. "Do you need to go? Aww. Well, it was nice meeting you. Feel free come visit our table again, if you'd like to~"
Koray Starr WC: 496 Baby Girl has no time to pay attention to your boring magical human nonsense.
Rowan laughed a little at the human's response to him initially, blushing a little. At least that was before he felt Koray's concern radiating from the kitchen. After explaining this to Baby Girl, the Phantump would've made a quick exit but... she said something that made him pause. A special human? A chef with powers? :V Oh how cool! The Phantump had been about to ask Baby Girl how she knew this and what made her 'mama' different when it seemed that Koray had meandered out to find Rowan himself. Oops... He hadn't meant to worry his trainer so much, but the relief on Koray's face at seeing his precious partner was palpable.
Approaching the table, Koray smiled lightly, if shyly at Senara. He'd just gotten off his shift and hadn't exactly planned on taking a nap. You were supposed to wake me, Rowan.I was going to! I just ran into some new friends! Koray seemed to relax at hearing that, offering a hand to the Phantump who floated up and rested on his trainer's shoulder with practiced ease. "I hope he hasn't been too much of a bother," Koray stated, smirking a little despite the protests from Rowan, "Have you been helped? I could grab one of the waitresses for you if you'd like." A sound from Rowan was all it took to dismiss that notion however. A nod would be given thereafter.
"Ah, Rowan's informed me you've already been helped. I'm happy to hear that," Koray replied, smiling a little when he saw the Sableye, "And who's this little beauty~?" he continued, gesturing to Baby Girl, "I have a Sableye myself, but Smeagol has effectively been banned from the restaurant. He causes too much trouble to make it worth bringing him."
Oooh, Koray! Baby Girl said that there was a special chef in the back kitchen! Do you know who it is? Koray looked taken aback initially at the question, holding back a laugh after that. Take a wild guess, Rowan~. The Phantump simply opened his mouth in a silent 'oh', now giggling to himself for how silly he'd been.
Before the shiny Phantump could make their way back to the kitchen, somebody had stepped out of the doors and was approaching them instead. Senara sat up a little straighter as the person came over. Aurgh, socializing with strangers. It was so much easier with Pokemon than people. At least they had an awkward enough smile that she wasn’t worrying about some charismatic cheerful individual coming up and striking up a long-winded conversation she did not have the energy for. Senara put on her own fake bright grin anyway. May as well establish some sort of social dominance, even with a total stranger. “Oh, not at all, not at all! He’s been a total sweetheart the whole time!”
Senara giggled and reached a hand out to pet the top of Baby Girl’s head, who was looking quite intently up at Rowan’s human. Huh. Yep. That was who she’d felt earlier. And she could still hear him now. Neat. More magical humans. Senara was, of course, still completely unaware of the psychic in the room. “Him and my darling have been having their own little conversation. He even gave me recommendations for a dessert!~”
Baby Girl tilted her head at Koray. She understood his thoughts, but not when he was speaking with his mouth-words. She was so bad at remembering these human languages. <If you’re saying “hi” I don’t know that language. Sorry. Nice magic trick though. Can you read human minds, too? Or are you a different type.>
Senara giggled, only hearing Baby Girl’s speaking as more friendly chittering. She was unusually talkative with this guy. Maybe it was because he was the Phantump’s trainer? Maybe he specialized in ghosts...that'd be neat. “This is Baby Girl. She’s my starter. And I promise she’s very well behaved, unless you dangle a pretty necklace in her face. Did you say ‘Smeagol’? And your Phantump’s name is ‘Rowan’...” It was amusing when people had theme naming for their Pokemon. Most of hers were Kalosian, with a few exceptions. Was he a fan of the films or of the books, though, was the real test of character; not that she had time or real interest in determining that right now. Or ever.
“Hmm, if he’s such a troublemaker I’d expect he’d have a different name..."
Koray relaxed when Senara explained that Rowan had been fine. That was good, not that he actually had anything to worry about but it was nice to hear it from the customer nonetheless. Hearing the Smeagol's, Baby Girl's, words, Koray blinked a couple of times and had to fight back a laugh. I see, it's not exactly a magic trick though. I'm a spirit sensor, that means I can understand ghosts, spirits if you will. No human minds though, you're one of the special ones~. Rowan giggled a the conversation and nodded emphatically. Yep! Koray can hear all the ghost pokemon! This had Koray smiling a bit sheepishly but he simply patted the Phantump on the head and turned his attention back to Baby Girl's trainer. He should probably focus on what she was saying rather than the pokemon...
A laugh escaped from Koray as Senara picked up on his naming scheme. "Yes, Rowan's full name is actually Rowan Bregalad. I couldn't resist given Trevenant reminds me so much of an Ent," he explained, giving a brighter smile, "I've read the books so much the covers are almost falling apart and own all the extended editions of the movies." Rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly, Koray shrugged, trying to play it off like it was nothing special.
"Smeagol isn't completely evil like Golem. He has at least some redeemable qualities. If Smeagol hadn't had The Ring for so long, he might've been able to be saved but Golem was the one that couldn't live without the The Ring." Ah.... was that too much information? Oh well. Nevermind that he'd just revealed just how much of a fan he was of the series. "Ah, aside from that, Sableye, or at least mine, does kind of look like Smeagol."

Baby Girl understood his mind-words, but not his mouth-words. If she were more of an inquisitive soul, she might have wondered how mind-readers could pass through a language barrier when words failed. But she wasn't, so she didn't. She just waved her sharp, shiny paw dismissively. <Totally is magic. Humans aren't supposed to do what you guys do, far as I know. So you're magic. So it's a magic trick. Deal with it.>
She didn't sound like she was going to be convinced otherwise.
Senara sighed softly, a little wistfully. When was the last time she'd read a book. When was the last time she'd ready a book she liked that much? She couldn't actually recall. Did she have a copy of The Silmarillion her place? She could remember liking it, but not how much. Maybe that was bad. But she could remember the movies at least. "Oooh, I don't think I've ever seen the extended editions. Are they that much longer?" Senara put a finger to her lower lip, nail tapping at it in thought. "I don't remember the last time I saw them. When I was at uni...? But I remember the Ents! That's such a good fit!~"
He had a reason for his little trouble-maker having the "softer" of the two personalities' names, even if she couldn't remember herself how accurate that was. He remembered a lot more than she did so she had no reason to poke a hole in that. Except for that last point. Senara's grin went sly, looking at Baby Girl. "They do look rather gremlin like, hehehehe!" Baby Girl tilted her head, not understanding, yet somehow knowing she was being talked about. Senara blew a kiss at her Pokemon. "Qui est mon petit précieuse?"
Baby Girl somehow managed to roll her eyes without having pupils--or eyes--and muttered sheepishly between her sharp teeth. <Mamaaaaa, you're embarrassing me...>
"Is yours also shiny? Or is Barbe d'arbre here your only one?" She rested her cheek on her knuckles, smiling a little easier. He was calm, and nervous, and it helped her to feel in "power" so to say. That meant less anxiety. Whee! "Ahh, he'll be so pretty when he evolves. And so big! Are Phantumps usually that size? I thought they were littler."
Koray Starr WC: 401 It's a little bad, Senara. Remember your dang hobbies, girl. Self-care.
Koray smiled at Baby Girl's rebuttal but simply shook his head and focused on Senara instead. It was nice being able to talk about something he loved so much, especially given that usually the only ones he talked about it to lately were his pokemon. Some of them didn't understand it, but enjoyed the movie marathons regardless. Senara showed interest in them though and Koray couldn't help but grin, "They're a good 45 minutes longer and if you want to marathon them it's a good 12 hours and 6 minutes total. Totally worth it though," he explained, nodding at the compliment about the ents and how Rowan's name was the perfect fit. "Thanks, I'm still on the fence whether I want to evolve him, but maybe one day we'll get there."
As Senara seemed to agree with him, Koray laughed a little at the description of a gremlin. She had a point, Sableye did look more mischievous than not, Smeagol just got into more trouble than most it seemed. Hearing the chatter from Baby Girl, Koray smirked, not willing to give away his ability just yet. At least, not to a complete stranger. At being asked if his Sableye was shiny, Koray gave a shake of his head, "No, just a normal color. For shinies I have Rowan and Elanor, she's my Litwick. That's not counting the special colors I've come across either," he continued, shaking his head at the next question, "Rowan is quite large for his size actually, practically double the average. He's very special to me, in more ways than one." This time is was Rowan's turn to blush, flailing a little at Koray's words. Korrrayyyy stop thaaaaat.

"Twelve h--wow. I wish I had that sort of time to watch movies." Senara blinked, a little bit blindsided by the sheer amount of information Koray had off the top of his head related to these films. It was surprisingly endearing. She didn't usually think anything positive about a person until she'd known them for a longer amount of time...or until they started blackmailing her, apparently, but that was a rare occurrence. "Well, maybe I'll give one of my weekends away for it, since you have me curious as to what was added."
Would she really, or was she just saying it to sound friendly? It wasn't like they'd have too much to do between now and the heist--there was time for a movie marathon. But that would imply that she actually cared about a person's opinions. Or maybe she just wanted to check herself and remember whether or not she liked those sort of things.
Like a normal person.
Koray confirmed her suspicions about Rowan being unusually sized, but that wasn't a bad thing at all! On the contrary Senara seemed to have a trend of collecting those herself. Like the Ivysaur the size of a small frog under her chair. "Heheh...your starter's always the most precious to you, right? Though I think most people get theirs in a lab these days, which makes me the odd one out," she shrugged her shoulders slightly, still keeping her cheek on her knuckles. "Arcielian color variants are gorgeous, aren't they? I have a couple myself. What I wouldn't have given to catch one of those red Litwick that were haunting around here some time back, but it got away from me. Alas."
Senara glanced towards the kitchen doors, and remembered who Koray even was. Right. "Ah, should I be keeping you? Pleasant conversation or not I'd hate to get you in trouble for chatting with customers instead of doing...whatever it is you, I'm going to guess cooking from your get-up." She giggled a little. "I can't wait to try the dessert Rowan pointed out for us. I'm sure these guys will love it~ And myself, of course."
Again, a little green vine wiggle up from beneath the chair and waved.
Koray Starr WC: 394 Etolie meanwhile just wants her meatball. She cares not for your sweets!
Koray couldn't help but laugh at the reaction Senara gave when he explained just how much longer the extended version of the movies were. It made him happy to know that someone was interested in the series now. "You won't regret it, I assure you," he replied, smiling a little more before explaining how Rowan was special. The Phantump was special for more than his coloring or size certainly, but Koray wasn't going to tell a virtual stranger how Rowan had more or less become an emotional support Pokemon. He didn't know exactly when that happened, but there it was.
"I love the color variations in Arciel, yes, my Yamask is absolutely beautiful. I wouldn't trade her for the world," Nevermind that Lorien was incredibly shy and didn't warm up to strangers all that quickly. Nodding at Senara's words, Koray found himself smiling a little more. He had hoped to find one of the red Litwick as well but hadn't been able to find any either. Oh well, there was always another opportunity.
The reminder that he should probably be getting back to work had Koray looking back towards the kitchen. Oh, right. They were probably looking for him by now. He wasn't too worried, really, but did nod anyway. "I'm a chef, yes. Or well, more like the chef's assistant. It's my dad's restaurant. I should head back though, nice talking to you Senara," Koray replied, smirking at the vine he saw wave to him. He waved back, not knowing if the Pokemon saw him or not but oh well, he'd definitely make sure to speed the order out and make it extra special.
