Makoto, first and foremost, is a charismatic social butterfly. They are friendly, sociable, and courteous to those around them, whoever the individual may be; having a habit of using affectionate pet names for people they meet and those they like. In addition to this, they have a tendency for being quite flirty with those who are closer to their age, sometimes shamelessly so; though they are mindful about backing off from those who are disinterested. They are the type one might expect to see taking it easy and chatting people up at a bar, though Makoto admittedly is not one to drink much; disliking the taste of stronger alcohols, and preferring to keep a clear head about them.
To those that they are not flirting with however, Makoto can come across as warm, kind, and perhaps even mentor-like; they've had their own ups and downs in their life, and they're more than happy to provide advice or comfort to those who are going through their own downs. They hate seeing innocent people in pain, physical, emotional, or mental; and though some may say that it's, to a certain degree, Makoto doing this in an attempt to cope with personal issues... They do, genuinely, wish to put a smile on the faces of others.
However, even that being said... Makoto is prone to a few less reputable habits. Namely, they are a bit of a thief at heart. A habit they've yet to break themselves of, Makoto doesn't tend to think twice about the idea of stealing - even if they, ironically, tend to disapprove of others getting into the thief business. They prefer marks who are more well-off, however, and they are prone to acting as a bit of a Robin Hood; targeting those who would overlook a few missing bucks or a 'misplaced' piece of jewelry, to share with those less well-off. They believe that the rich should aid the poor, that one shouldn't be greedy and hoard everything for oneself - being prone to disliking those who refuse to share with those in need.
In addition to this, Makoto is someone prone to dipping their fingers in more underground environments, when they're able. Certainly, in the passing years, Makoto has grown rusty and perhaps somewhat dated in such matters - it having been far too long since they've dabbled in the more criminal parts of life - but they are unafraid of talking their way through the underground, if it's what's necessary.
On a lighter note though, Makoto has other more positive hobbies that they occupy themselves with. Namely, Makoto prides themself on being a bit of a confectioner; enjoying nothing more than making sweets to share with friends, or to sell to others. In addition to this, they have a fascination with cards of all kinds - particularly tarot cards, for their symbolism and the artwork they typically have - and is prone to collecting varieties of cards, and reading both their fortune, and the fortune of others. They, additionally, enjoy reading a variety of books - particularly fictional stories - and love nothing more than to mingle with those close to them.
As far as pokemon go, though Makoto can appreciate pokemon of all types, they have a preference for feline pokemon, vulpine pokemon, as well as fire types and dark types. In addition, they also like fairy types, psychic types, normal types, and ghost types. Makoto is unafraid to put a pokemon's ability to its greatest use wherever or however they see fit, but they are also respectful of a pokemon's needs and wants; abhorring the idea of seeing pokemon as nothing more than tools.
Overall though, if one can gain Makoto's trust and bond with them, they can prove to be a friendly and perhaps even loving ally, who is unafraid to use more underhanded tactics to get back at those who hurt their friends. They will be more than happy to share sweets (even if this sometimes means that you become their taste-test guinea-pig for new recipes), to offer a shoulder to cry on, and to even provide a place to crash if needed; being unerringly loyal to those they adore. However, to break this trust in some major capacity, or otherwise hurt those close to them, can sometimes result in a rather vindictive Makoto on one's tail...
Born in Ecruteak City, in Johto, Makoto was a bit of an odd one out, amongst the majority of their family - who were rather traditional and oldfashioned, to say the least. Though beloved by their mother - Nezuko - Makoto never knew their father, and was overall shunned by the rest of their family; Nezuko having had Makoto out of wedlock, to a man that their family disapproved of. Despite this, though, things were happy enough; even if Makoto's family rejected them, Nezuko loved them with all of her heart. Makoto's mother was a constant comforting and gentle presence to them, as she taught them everything she knew.
However, when Makoto was at the young age of 13, Nezuko would - quite suddenly - pass away, due to illness. Left to a family that they were convinced wanted nothing to do with them, and only wanted to them to be a 'quiet and unseen' child, it wouldn't take long for Makoto to run away from home; disappearing into the night, and stealing some of the belongings that Nezuko left behind as keepsakes and reminders of her.
Forced to fend for themself due to running away, Makoto would quickly end up in the wrong crowd; taken in by a fragmented and struggling Team Rocket, who were trying to rebuild shortly after Giovanni's disappearance and the team's supposed disbanding. Though they never did approve of Team Rocket's ways - thanks to the kind heart that Nezuko tried to enstill in them from a young age - Makoto still attached themself to the team both out of survival, and out of a misguided attempt to find a place where they belonged and could be appreciated. Through this, they quickly learned how to steal, how to cheat, how to lie; any skills that'd make up a true criminal.
It was also though this, that Makoto would end up meeting their first true partner; a Zorua, whose egg they had stolen away from a breeder for themself. Though they never did get along at first, Makoto gained an appreciation for the little tricky fox - who they named Tsume - as they, with time, formed a bond together. The two would become a daring duo, in the criminal scene; and even after Team Rocket dissolved entirely - leaving a 16 year old Makoto on their own once more - they couldn't exactly be sad, with Tsume always at their side. Their shared craftiness, on top of Tsume's illusions to obscure their identity, made them a hard duo to catch as they began wandering the world; getting by by swiping wallets and stealing from stores.
However, all the craftiness in the world could only do them so much. Makoto would have been in Kalos - 23 years old - when the Ultra Beast attacks began. Caught in the middle of it, the duo would be forced to fight for their lives when they were targeted by one of the alien beings in the chaos; and though Tsume fought well against what were a far more powerful foe, he would still would end up grievously injured in the fight. The both of them would only barely able to slip away, thanks to his illusions; but though they were both able to get away, Tsume would end up passing away from his severe injuries.
Losing Tsume, on top of what was already a traumatic near-death experience for Makoto, shook them to the core. Once more, they were alone; having lost the only people that had truly cared for them a second time. In the aftermath, Makoto would end up making the decision to put their thieving ways on hiatus, so that they could grieve; moving to Arciel, and settling down in Fuji Town, for its relatively quiet and calm atmosphere. They'd make the decision to clean up their act a little; picking up a couple of hobbies, and taking things slow for the next handful of years...
... At least, until Makoto would - once more - end up receiving a Zorua egg; this time having been legitimately bought, from a local breeder. Seeing this opportunity as a second chance, to try and make everything better, Makoto would take in the egg without hesitation; naming the kit within Kuro, and raising the Zorua just as they would've raised Tsume. In addition to this, would come the Grand Tournament; something that - while it also angered Makoto to a certain degree - was taken as a sign, that encouraged the idea of moving on from the quiet life that they held.
Perhaps now was as good of a time as ever, to go on a little adventure of their own...
Makoto, for the most part, is a rather free spirited individual who isn't bound by any one goal; though they do have a few goals in life, nonetheless.
Firstly, they wish to become a great cook and a skilled confectioner - having an interest in honing their craft, and furthering a hobby that they find soothing and enjoyable. They enjoy seeing their sweets put smiles on peoples' faces, and would love to be able to share even greater sweets with a wider variety of people.
Secondly, they have an interest in casually breeding Zorua and Zoroark, as well as other feline and vulpine pokemon; wishing to train a handful of the dark-type foxes for themself, as well as to share such a rare and curious pokemon with those who are interested in training a Zorua or two of their own.
And finally... Though this is a more minor wish or desire of theirs, due to it - logically - being unlikely to ever happen ...
... They do wish to either steal the Beast Ball that is being touted as the Grand Tournament's grand prize, or to otherwise see it be stolen by someone else. They do not believe that touting such a vital object - something that could avert a true crisis if the Ultra Beasts ever return - as nothing more than a prize is right. They also do not believe that a trainer being the strongest necessarily will mean that that trainer is responsible or thoughtful enough to use the Beast Ball with the good of others in mind, as opposed to the strong only using it to get stronger.
They believe these strange new pokeballs should belong to the public as a whole under regulation, or otherwise that they should be given to rangers and other similar authorities, as a way to protect others. They do not know if Project Chimera really deserve the Beast Ball either, and are reluctant to even indirectly involve themself with such a team due to their own past experiences with other such criminal groups... But they would like to see the Beast Ball go to someone who can make the most of it for the good of others, as opposed to whoever the victor of the coming Tournament may be.
5'11" / 180.3cm
Tall and Somewhat Lithe
Standing at 5'11'', Makoto is relatively tall compared to the average person; with a somewhat lithe build that seems to slightly emphasize this height. They overall appear androgynous, with a slight masculine leaning; but are unafraid to put on a more feminine air, or a more masculine air, according to their mood otherwise. Their skin tone is a dark brown, with long and straight purple hair - typically kept in a ponytail or braid(s) - and vivid green eyes.
As far as clothing goes, Makoto tends to wear whatever suits their mood at the time; being seen in a dress one day, and then wearing a men's shirt and slacks the next. They prefer blacks, purples, and greens in their wear - enjoying colors that match or otherwise pair well with their hair and eyes - and though they prefer practical clothing when they're on the move, will sometimes dress with the intention of looking fancy or otherwise attractive when they're lingering in a town or city.
As an accessory, Makoto tends to have a black ribbon that they sometimes wear as a bow to tie up their ponytail or braid, or otherwise around their neck as a ribbon choker. In addition to this, they tend to wear square rimmed glasses; the frames being a simple black as well.
Makoto's aura is sometimes comparable to that of foxfire, or a fox's tail; crackling and blazing across their body with a vivid glow, little wisps occasionally breaking off of it and flickering about them, and with a tail-like extension that occasionally 'swishes' when they are calm and content or happy. When Makoto's emotions are high and strong though - such as when they are angry - the blaze grows stronger, and the single tail suddenly fans out into multiple; as if to make themselves appear larger. Typically, their aura comes in purples and pinks, with the occasional flickers of gold, and rare flickers of black and grey when their mood is low.
Skills, Abilities, & Notoriety
0 - Neutral
- Though Makoto doesn't do it often, they tend to be light on the makeup; going for a 'natural but not actually natural' look to them.
- They are mildly nearsighted; and while it's not outright debilitating if they lose their glasses, they tend to have trouble making out details at a distance.
- Alongside a couple of knives for self-defence, Makoto also keeps a couple warfans on them; liking the extra-ness of being able to whip it out at a moment's notice, and also having an appreciation for the Kimono Girl aesthetic.
