The darkness of the Plum City Gym was broken suddenly when the doors burst open, sending in the light from the outside, and casting the shadow of the tall, lanky Galarian stepping into the building. "Alrighty boys and girls, let's get ready to rumble!" he crowed out. He was still on his high from winning his first gym badge. He was certain that this time, he'd only need two cracks at this gym before he got his second.
In the darkness, an ominous voice spoke out. "Who dares come in here, seeking a chall-oh! Hey, it's you!" The torches around the gym immediately flared to life, illuminating the gym. Standing there was Sable, the gym leader of Plum City. The teen grinned as she looked up at him. "Come back for another butt whoopin?" she said with a teasing tone. Marley couldn't help but smirk. "Oh, this time you're the one that's gettin' a spankin'! So let's get this show on the road!"
Sable gave a chuckle as she moved to her position at her end of the arena. Marley took his own. He smirked, reaching down for his pokeball. "Alright, come on out Brawly!" he yelled, throwing the pokeball and unleashing the ball of rage that was his Mankey.
Marley and Brawly paused, looking at the pokemon in front of them. Sableye, a ghost dark type. Both man and pokemon instantly realized what was happening, and what this meant. Things were silent for a moment.
And then Brawly flew into a rage, screeching and stamping his foot in frustration. Brawly didn't have any moves he could use against a ghost type. Marley's eye twitched before he let out a sigh. "Brawly, just...just sit this one out, ok?" The Mankey stamped his foot and then stormed off into the darkness. Marley turned his attention to Sable, who was chuckling to herself. "You know, he was really excited about taking part in a gym battle you know," he said in a sharp tone, "You didn't have to go and be an absolute arse about it." Sable paused and blinked, "Hey, there's nothing saying I can't use my Sableye. Type advantage and all that." "Oh, I know that. But there's a difference between wanting to win and being an utter dick about it." Marley paused as he heard a sound coming from the darkness where Brawly went. "See? He's crying now. You made my Mankey CRY!"
Sable paused, starting to actually feel a little guilty about it. "Well...I guess he can come back against another pokemon." "No, no," Marley replied, "We know the rules. I had to withdraw him, so he's out. I'll just have to kick your arse with two pokemon instead." Marley was giving the gym leader a look a parent would when scolding a child. A look that just screamed 'you should be ashamed of yourself'. He reached into his jacket to pull out another pokeball. "Come on out Amp!"
With a bright flash, Marley's Magnemite came into view. The floating pokemon blinked its one eye, taking note of what appeared to be sobbing somewhere in the darkness, before glaring at the Sableye it assumed was responsible. Judgement all around folks!
Ok, NOW there was an actual battle to be fought. Sableye's ghost typing wouldn't stop anything here. Marley was still annoyed about Sable pulling a stunt like that. First it was Hiro with Arrokuda hidden in the pool, and now this. Did all the gym leaders in Arciel play dirty like this? Well, no matter. Marley was going to stomp her into the ground for it. And right now, the first target was that damn Sableye. "Alright Amp, let's get this started! Hit it with a Thunder Wave!"
Amp charged up electricity around himself, before firing a bright burst right at Sableye. The ghost pokemon, slightly caught off guard by the flash of electricity, couldn't move in time before the attack hit. The sableye groaned as the electricity caused her body to lock up, making it difficult to move.
Sable took the opportunity to snap out of the guilt induced daze Marley had thrown her into. "Sableye! Hit it with a Confuse Ray!" With difficulty moving, the Sableye turned her head towards the floating steel pokemon, before her eyes flashed. Amp jerked back, blinking, disoriented. Of course, trust the damn thing to have a Confuse Ray. "Amp, snap out of it and hit it with a Thunder Shock!" Electricity charged around the magnemite, getting ready to fire. However, when the attack launched, it veered off wide, striking the ground right next to Sable, who jumped up in surprise. "Hey! Watch it!" she yelled out, scooping up a small rock and hurling it at the Magnemite, catching it in the side. "Oi!" Marley yelled out, "Now ya throwin' rocks at my pokemon now?" "It almost shocked me!" "It missed due to confusion, brought about by YOUR damn Sableye!" "That doesn't excuse bad aiming!"
As the two trainers bickered, Amp blinked a couple of times, snapping out of its confused daze. Its lone eye looked down at the paralyzed Sableye, who was having a hard time moving. Perfect. If it could smile, it would be. Electricity started to course through it, its aim no longer hindered by confusion.
Meanwhile, the two trainers were taking verbal potshots at eachother, almost completely forgetting about the battle before a crash of electricity caused them to pause. Both looking over, Sableye was now laying on the ground, looking much crisper than usual, while Amp floated there happily. It took a second or two for the two to realize what had happened. "Good shot Amp! Knew you could do it!" Marley crowed. Sable pouted as she recalled the Sableye. "So you distract me while your pokemon cheap shots mine huh?" "Oh, don't you start now!"
