After a brief stop to setup her hidden base, Elizabeth resumed their travels through the dense woods. With the spring came fresh growth and the forest was vibrant and alive all around them. The ranger reseted against the trunk of Tansy's bloom as the venusaur made her way steadily over a well worn forest trail.
Raya sat with her legs crossed atop the large grass type's head, keeping a watchful eye on their surroundings. And nestled in the midst of Tansy's bloom the brightly colored Shalin was leaving a floating trail of pink cotton in their wake. Scouting ahead Ciara was investigating every bit of underbrush they came upon. Assisting her was Sienna, the lopunny happily following the large canine's lead.
Liz flipped through her phone thinking it was high time for an upgrade. She'd need a bit more pen however is she wanted to get the latest in cellular technology, thus perhaps they'd encounter an eager trainer or troublemaker along the way. Her team could always use a work out but fighting wild pokemon didn't always seem fair. Of course their true goal was to reach Ash City but they weren't in the biggest hurry.

Ciara's fur stood on end as the absol sense something nearby in the surrounding wood. She came to a stand still, causing Sienna to hop right into her back end. The lopunny shook herself and blinked in stunned surprise.
"Lopunny. Ow. What is it? Something wrong?"
She inquired with concern as she rubbed her cheek. Ciara gave a half turn of her head and eyed the bunny with her crimson gaze. Sienna's ears twitched nervously, she didn't like the look the absol was giving her.
"Absol. Hush, there's something watching us."
The dark type snapped warningly. The lopunny's eyes widened and she moved in closer to the large canine. Ciara raised a brow as she stepped forward cautiously sniffing at the air inquisitively. Her gaze flicked toward a small grove of trees where she noted a splash of white. She turned her gaze to Sienna and growled softly.
"Absol. Wait here."
Sienna nodded slowly though she didn't like the idea of the dark type leaving her alone. Ciara dropped low to the ground and skirted through the underbrush as she approached the figure she'd spotted. To her surprise it was another absol, who just seemed to be sitting and resting in the shade of a large tree. His steady crimson eyes regarded her momentarily then he yawned.
"'Sol. Help you?"
He inquired nonchalantly almost seeming bored of her presence. Ciara scoffed and stepped toward him sizing the other up. The wild absol flicked his mane back but kept his gazed fixed on her. Ciara narrowed her eyes and gave a tilt of her head.
"Absol. No, just passing through. You've any problem with that?"
She inquired with a rather hostile tone. The smaller male just blinked at her and shrugged.
"'Sol. Not my forest, do what you like."
He responded then laid his head on his paws and closed one eye, the other remaining fixed on Ciara. She studied him silently a moment more then huffed satisfied and returned to the lopunny.
"Lopunny! Well what was it? Liz is worried, she's asking if everything's okay."
Ciara shook out her mane and nodded. Sienna sagged with relief.
"Absol. Everything's fine. Just another absol, he wasn't interested in us."
She trotted on ahead leaving the lopunny to relay the message back to the ranger and the others.

"It's nice traveling through woods again."
Tansy gave a deep sigh and Liz grinned to herself in agreement.
"Yea, always feels a bit like being in some hidden, magical place."
The telepath commented as she sat up and leaned over Raya's shoulder. The lucario flicked an ear back toward the young woman but didn't turn her head, still keeping a watchful eye on the trees.
"But it certainly leaves something to be desired in the way of seeing if anything is approaching."
The jackal stated with a hint of annoyance. Liz laughed and shook her head as she gave the lucario a pat on the shoulder.
"Really Raya, you worry too much. We've a whole team with us, I doubt we'll have any trouble from anything in here."
Raya narrowed her eyes and glanced sideways toward the ranger.
"Perhaps, but of those you've chosen only three of us that have truly been tested in battle."
The lucario scoffed as she leaned back and looked to the odd purple puff ball on Tansy's bloom then gave a side-eyed look to the pokeball on Liz's hip that still contained the sixth member of their party. Tansy shook herself gently, almost unseating the blue jackal.
"Liz is right Raya. With you and me along we shouldn't have any problems. And Ciara's scouting ahead for anything bad. We'll be fine."
Raya didn't look convinced but she shrugged and returned to her scans of the forest. She twitched an ear, picking up on a small aura in the trees above them. It however didn't move and appeared murky, fearful. The lucario eyed it a moment as they passed by and the aura faded behind them.
A small aipom remained huddled against the tree as the large plant continued on her way. She chattered nervously to herself then anxiously darted away. No way was she messing with any of that nonsense.

Well now here was something interesting. Ahead Raya spotted something standing directly in their path. Though it appeared tree like at first glance, if one looked closely it'd be easy to tell this wasn't a tree. The group came to a stop a few feet from the treeposter to size things up. Liz sat up and slid from Tansy's back as Raya shifted into a crouched position on the venusaur's head.
"Sudowoodo?"
Raya's questioning tone could be sensed in her thoughts as the ranger placed a hand on her hip and eyed the rock tree. She nodded slowly in agreement with the lucario's assessment. It seemed to them the sudowoodo was blocking their path deliberately. As to why the young woman was uncertain. It wasn't uncommon for sudowoodo to find themselves in the middle of one's path. Some wondered they were simply being territorial and hoping to drive trespassers away or perhaps they were intentionally being disruptive and were just wanting to ruin someone's day. It was also possible this was just their way of challenging passersby to a battle.
As it seemed the sudowoodo wasn't inclined to move out of their way the group would likely have to encourage the sudowoodo's departure. With the rock tree Liz had several options for battle partners, Tansy and Raya could obviously handle the obstinate blockage, but she felt it might be good to allow some of her less experienced partners to engage the sudowoodo. Thus she released Alara to the forest floor, the soft bubble of water rippled around the fish ashs eh appeared. Raya raised a brow at the ranger's choice, Alara was a bit of an unknown and not quite on the level of the sudowoodo.
"Liz, you know it would be easier-"
The young woman glanced at the lucario with her own raised brow causing Raya to falter in her thought. The jackal sighed and shrugged knowing Liz was going to do as she thought best. Besides it wasn't like the seaking would be without back up. Still Raya kept a watchful eye out, picking up on a group of approaching auras amidst the trees.
"Hmm, looks like Ciara and Sienna are returning, but something seems to be following them."
The lucario alerted the ranger who nodded in acknowledgement. She'd deal with that once they'd taken care of the sudowoodo. Her focus turned to Alara, who was now floating upside down in her bubble. Liz paused and blinked, the quirky fish was a bit of an odd one. The seaking's back was now to the sudowoodo and she was making fish faces at Liz and the others.
"Um, Alara, think you could use Aqua Ring?"
The ranger requested unsure how aware the fish was. Some pokemon had a higher degree of intelligence than others after all. Alara gaped at the young woman a moment more but soon a ring of water appeared around her bubble and she gave Liz a grin. Though as her attention was still on the ranger and not the rock tree who suddenly slammed her hands together and summoned a barrage of rocks that smashed into the fish sending her reeling.
The rock attack did a decent amount of damage but the water type seaking still had plenty of fight in her, plus the gentle healing of the Aqua Ring helped aleeve some of the damage. She was now definitely paying attention a whipped around ready to retaliate. A rapid pulse of water fired from the orange fish and thoroughly drenched the sudowoodo. The rock tree shuddered against the water and responded with a mad dash toward the Alara. The sudowoodo hit hard and flung the fish back, nearly into Liz and the others. Alara flopped about in her bubble trying to regain her senses. Fortunately the Aqua Ring refreshed her a little keeping her concious.
"Hey you're doing fine Alara, hang in there. Tansy, I think it's time for Sudowoodo's nap."
The ranger instructed looking back at the venusaur. Tansy bobbed her head and stepped forward, giving a firm shake of her bloom. A soft, blue powder drifted from the flower and blanketed the rock tree. The sudowoodo blinked hazily for a moment before staggering in place then dropping to the forest floor. Liz nodded in satisfaction as she retrieved a great ball.
"Let's see if this takes."
She tossed the ball at the slumbering rock type then looked up at Ciara and Sienna came running into view. On their heels was a Mienfoo who didn't look very happy with the pair. Liz raised a brow at Ciara who skidded to the side and did a full one-eighty to face down the fighter.
"And what exactly happened with you two?"
Sienna panted and leaned against the ranger's side shaking her head. Ciara growled at the meinfoo who narrowed his eyes in annoyance.
"We didn't mean to make him angry. Ciara was looking around some hollow and he must've mistaken us for thieves or something."
The lopunny hastily explained to the telepath who sighed and shook her head. Ciara scowled at the lopunny but returned her focus to the fighter. However before the absol could attack, Liz frowned then whipped out her last quick ball and chucked it at the meinfoo. Ciara blinked then huffed and gave the ranger an irritated glance. Liz just shrugged.
"What? I figure we try to wrap this up quick."
Ciara sighed and the group watched warily to see if the two throw balls would hold.

Success the sudowoodo's ball gave that all familiar click of capture and Raya retrieved the trembling blue ball for her trainer. The mienfoo however wasn't to be subdued so easily. The blue and yellow quick ball burst open, releasing the fighting weasel back on the forest floor. Now he was looking rather pissed. Ciara however seemed satisfied with this outcome as she immediately charged the fighter and slashed him with her gleaming scythe.
"Well, guess you've got the fight you wanted."
The ranger thought though the absol didn't seem to acknowledge her comment. Liz shook her head and kept a close eye on things as Raya passed her sudowoodo's ball. The young woman also recalled Alara who was ready for a good rest. Still the fish had done well against the rock tree and the ranger commended her as she vanished into the ball.
Ciara and the mienfoo faced off, the meinfoo a tad more wary now that he knew about the absol's psycho cut. The fighter had the natural advantage though so long as Ciara could keep him at bay he'd have trouble using it. The mienfoo however was patient and waited for his opening. Quick as a flash he lunged forward palm outstretched. Ciara lunged to the side to avoid the attack but the Force Palm still hit, throwing her back.
The absol grunted with effort from the attack but was still standing. The ranger pursed her lips as she watched the pair closely. She surmised the Force Palm was an attempt to damage and incapacitate the absol with potential paralysis but the strike hadn't hit with the needed force.
"Double Team."
Liz's singular thought was accepted by the absol who suddenly splintered into multiple copies of herself. Mienfoo hesitated as he was suddenly surrounded by absol. The weasel narrowed his eyes and scanned the absol trying to pinpoint Ciara's location. He lashed out at one copy with a jump kick but the copy vanished before his eyes. He smacked into the ground as his kick connected with nothing and grunted from the blow.
"Hang in there, Swords Dance."
The ranger instructed the eager absol. Ciara scoffed a little at the instruction, she didn't feel the power increase was needed but she did as asked. Liz wanted to use the cover of the double team to give Ciara the boost she needed and hopefully cut the mienfoo down to size with just a final strike. A flash of swords danced around all the copies as Ciara readied herself. Meinfoo however seemed to pick up better on the absol's true location with the movement. He darted forward and brought his fist up slamming it into a presumed copy.
The drain punch however landed, hitting Ciara hard. The absol gritted her teeth as she immediately retaliated, slashing with the psycho cut once more. Mienfoo gave a whimper as the psychic attack hit and forced him away from the absol. Ciara teetered on her last legs watching the mienfoo with her crimson gaze. Mienfoo grunted, winded from the charged up psycho cut. Even the restored energy from the drain punch hadn't helped to mitigate the psychic attack much.
Liz looked to Tansy and winked. Like before the venusaur gave a shake of her bloom and that soft blue powder drifted down over the meinfoo. The weasel hissed and tried to avoid the powder but soon succumbed to the drug induced sleep. The ranger pulled another great ball from her pack and tossed it toward the mienfoo. Perhaps this time the ball would hold.

Looks like it wasn't meant to be. The mienfoo fought right through the ball bursting it open and immediately fled the area, in a very 'eff this shit I'm out' way. The ranger sighed regretfully but shrugged and looked from Raya to Ciara.
"Mind patching Ciara up for me?"
Liz inquired of the lucario who gave a nod then summoned the gentle, healing waters of Life Dew to refresh the weakened absol. Ciara shook herself, her fur now damp from the healing waters but she did indeed feel better. Liz returned to Tansy's side and gave the venusaur a pat as she climb back on.
"Looks like Ash City's just ahead. Guess we'll be spending the night in the pokemon center."
The ranger grinned at the others as the venusaur picked up the pace. Sienna hopped up beside the ranger as Ciara and Raya jogged on ahead. The forest had made for a pleasant trip but now the group was looking forward to some time in the city. Plus the recently opened Ash City Gym awaited them.
