Set in the original region of Arciel, Legends Rising is a route-inspired, but not strictly route-based, Pokemon roleplay. Pick a faction, pick a class, and strike out into the wild to take on the League, master Contest coordination, research the mysteries of Pokemon and Arciel, and much, much more. Will you be a classic trainer? A criminal? A farmer? Choose your destiny on Legends Rising.
Before long, Josh would head back towards Makoto and co; the older trainer glancing over to him as he approached, and Kuro shying away just a hair. As the young man apologized, Makoto smiled gently; nodding in understanding. "It's quite alright, darling. I can understand disliking puns; though I was genuine in saying it was unintentional." They'd mention, scratching their cheek and adding with a sheepish chuckle "In fact, I had thought that you'd take it as a serious pun if I hadn't said pun not intended; eheh!.."
As Josh introduced Twilight though, Makoto would glance to the Absol in question; looking her up and down with visible admiration. "Well aren't you a beautiful Absol; quite the sizeable dear, too. It's a pleasure to meet you, Twilight darling." Makoto would greet the Dark-type, smiling warmly. "Would you be okay with me touching you?" They'd ask the Disaster Pokemon in a gentle tone, extending a hand partway to show their intention to pet Twilight. If the Absol consented, Makoto would gently stroke and scratch along the side of Twilight's head - being careful to not touch her horn or the jewel on her forehead - as well as along her mane and shoulders.
Regardless of whether or not Twilight was interested in being petted though, Makoto would soon continue walking; smiling to the duo. "Absols are always surrounded by so much superstition, but I admit I've always wanted to raise one of my own," They mused out loud with a chuckle. "Dark-types in general - as well as Fire-types - are right up my alley, if I'm being honest. If I had to pick a single pokemon, though..." Bending down, Makoto would scoop Kuro up once more, gently scritching the fox's belly. "... Zoruas and Zoroarks have always held a special place in my heart. They're such rare pokemon, I'd love to see more people be able to see just how great these wily little foxes are." In response to the loving attention he was receiving, Kuro would practically melt in Makoto's arms; his tail wagging happily.
Once Resheph returned with a Timer Ball, though... Makoto chuckled, patting the Dratini on the head. "Look at you, being such a sweetheart for your trainer~" They'd praise the dragon-type, smiling warmly. It was interesting, just seeing the different sorts of things that a pokemon might find on the road; Kuro had a few knickknacks back home, that he sometimes dug up on his walks! As Josh mentioned asking around about a Pokeball crafter, though... Makoto hummed a bit, smiling to Josh. "If you're talking about with Apricorns, there's plenty of people across Arciel who make pokeballs with them." They'd mention to him, adding "You could probably even learn to make them yourself, if you ever find enough Apricorns. Just gotta be careful not to burn them, really."
Indeed though, it seemed that Cork's gate was looming in the distance; Makoto humming to themself briefly, as they peered in the gate's direction. Kama, excited, would run up ahead a short distance - chittering all the while - though... Suddenly, a tree would walk out into the path, prompting the hasty Sneasel to run straight into it with a surprised squeak!
... Wait, a walking tree?
Stumbling back a couple of paces and rubbing his sore nose, Kama would glance upwards to see multiple faces staring back down at him - this walking tree was, in fact, an Exeggutor! A large one at that, too; Makoto would blink a bit in surprise at the large tree pokemon, watching as each of its heads would turn their noses up at Kama, and make some sort of remark at him, before continuing to walk on across the path! Kama, seemingly not appreciating the remarks, would begin to squeak and shake a claw at the Exeggutor, before blowing a raspberry at them; much to Makoto's amusement. "You show them, darling." They'd wryly remark to Kama, patting the Sneasel's head. Kuro the Zorua - Level 10 - 4/5 Energy Kama the Sneasel - Level 11 - 3/5 Energy Tachi the Meinfoo - Level 10 - 2/5 Energy Unnamed the Abra - Level 1 - 2/5 Energy
Twilight tilted her head toward Makoto. The only reply she gave was a low coo when the younger one ran their hands through the white fur. "Again, she likes to keep to herself," Josh explained, "but I'm sure she appreciates it. She's my Pokémon of choice for twisty tracks - she can turn on a Pen with those claws of hers!" If Makoto were to look down, she'd see that the Absol's claws were noticeably shorter than most. "When she's in a good mood and she's relaxing, her horn is actually really soft...like the softest felt you can imagine."
"She has to be really careful with them on harder surfaces though. I entered her in a race in Ash City not too long ago, and the concrete really did a number on them. She'll be okay, though - they'll grow right back." Josh himself looked down at them - though they had been blunted quite a bit due to her gripping the concrete roads so hard during their race, they were already growing back. Once they had grown back all the way, a little nail care at a Pokémon Center and they'd be sharp as her horn again!
The remark of Makoto wanting to raise an Absol themself wasn't unexpected. "I hear that a lot - at one point, a catch limit and a trade embargo had to be placed on Absol because of how overhunted they were. They can have hard hearts, but they're fiercely loyal once you can get through to them. They're vicious in battle," he continued, the Absol's mere presence chasing away a sleep-walking Komala, "and they're great mounts too. When we get closer to the gate, I can even show you!" Josh couldn't help but smile seeing Kuro's tail going about a mile a minute. "I might have said it before, but this is my first time seeing a Zorua in person. I've heard they're a handful to raise."
Wait...burning Apricorns? That...was certainly different. "...As in, cooking them? I've never been a good cook," Josh slowly replied. "Back in Goldenrod, there's this sign in our apartment that reads 'I serve three meals: Frozen, Microwave, and Take-Out.' My late aunt got it for me when I was younger, and it still makes me smile and laugh. I'll have to look into it and give it a try, though."

Makoto would chuckle gently as Twilight accepted the touch; happy to see that even if the Absol did indeed prefer keeping to herself, that she still appreciated the attention. "It's quite alright; I can respect it if the dear's more the quiet and introverted type." Makoto would respond to Josh, smiling up to the duo. Once they finished petting Twilight, Makoto would give the Absol one last little pat on the head before backing off - so as to give her her personal space. "I'm not surprised that Twilight's got great traction; most Absol live high up in the mountains, from what I understand." An environment like that likely requires claws that can grip, so that they can keep their balance, avoid slipping around on icy surfaces, and climb up steep slopes.
A soft horn, though, was curious to hear - Makoto would glance to Josh with visible curiosity as he mentioned it. "I've never heard of an Absol's horn being soft... That's actually interesting," They'd hum a little; glancing towards Twilight's horn for a moment, before turning their attention back to Josh. As he mentioned how she has to be careful with her claws on hard surfaces, Makoto would nod in understanding; glancing down to Twilight's claws as well. It sounded like the race tracks can be hard on a pokemon...
Instead, as Josh mentioned how Absol were once overhunted, Makoto couldn't help a sympathetic look. "Poor darlings..." They'd murmur; frowning gently. "It's really a shame, how some people have no respect for ecosystems or other pokemon like that..." All because Absol were beautiful - but rare - too... Though, they wouldn't linger on that heavy subject for long; Josh instead offering to show how good of a mount Twilight could be. Smiling gently, they'd nod a little and respond "I'd love to see, darling."
The talk of Zoruas, though, seemed to put quite the smile on Makoto's face. "Oh, definitely." They'd confirm with a laugh; continuing "They're naturally inclined to being tricksters and troublemakers - and between this and their power over illusions, they can certainly cause plenty of tricks and trouble. Thankfully, most Zorua are inexperienced with their youth - which means that there's typically a tell of some sort to their illusions that makes it easier to deal with. Though... That also means that once they become a Zoroark, that their illusions only get harder to deal with. By then, you have to hope that you've taught your Zoroark to be responsible with how they use their illusions."
Makoto would briefly sigh a little, before smiling fondly down to Kuro. "I'm happy that Kuro is such a mild and sweethearted Zorua, compared to most of his kind; my little darling rarely ever causes trouble for others, even when he's practicing with his illusions. Though, I do hope that I can teach him to be less nervous about everything, someday. He's okay enough with battles, which is a good start; but..." Pausing to laugh briefly, Makoto would conclude with a wry smile "I imagine that it's quite the odd sight for strangers walking by, to sometimes see me carrying a rock with a fluffy tail around!"
Josh seemed a little puzzled at the idea of cooking Apricorns though, to which Makoto nodded a bit. "You cook them to turn them into Pokeballs," They'd explain, continuing "I admit I don't know the exact process - I've never done it myself - but I have always been curious about learning to make my own Pokeballs." The mention of the sign that Josh had, though, would make Makoto smile and laugh a little. They'd open their mouth, as though to respond to him with something, though...
... The sudden sensation of something shoving its way under their arm and into their handbag would make the trainer jump a bit! Instinctively smacking a hand over their bag to keep it closed, Makoto whirled around - so as to confront their would-be thief!
Post by Makoto Kurumi on Jun 14, 2020 19:35:29 GMT
The thief in question would be a Stantler - Arcielian, if the ghostly appearance she had about her implied anything - and a large one, at that! Kuro, surprised, would hop down from Makoto's arms to hide behind their legs; visibly timid about the much larger pokemon that they were facing. Kama was less timid - curiously chittering at the Stantler - but still kept his distance, simply observing. As deer and trainer alike quietly regarded each other though, Makoto couldn't help but begin to laugh, laughing off any nervous energy they might've had in that moment. "Pftahaha, oh dear, it's a deer!" They'd remark with clear amusement; smiling warmly to the Stantler as they greeted the cervine pokemon. "Well hello there, darling; what did you think you were up to, hmm?"
The Stantler wouldn't respond, though; instead regarding Makoto with a quiet and calm (or perhaps more lazy?) gaze, and slowly striding forward towards them... To try and shove her face into Makoto's handbag once more...! Makoto would back up a couple of paces with another surprised laugh to dodge the Stantler's attempt to make for the bag; nearly tripping over themself in the process. "What's got you so interested in my handbag, dear?" They'd question the Stantler, though... A moment of thought would answer that question for them, as they'd glance down to the handbag thoughtfully. "I wonder..."
Unzipping the handbag to open it, Makoto would briefly dig around, to pull out a ziploc baggy; filled to the brim with soft caramels! "Was this what you were interested in darling..?" The fact that the Stantler's blank gaze followed the bag seemed to confirm that, yes, she only wanted some sweets! With the ghost-type figured out, Makoto couldn't help a smile of amusement; pulling out a handful of soft caramels, and offering them to the Stantler. "Here you are, darling..."
The wild pokemon, slowly, would plod up to Makoto, and sniffed the sweets in their palm. Once she was able to confirm that these were the delectable prize that she wanted, she'd near-immediately slurp the caramels right up, to begin chewing on them! Makoto couldn't help a laugh at this, and - supposing that their pokemon shouldn't be left out on this - would take the time to pass a couple of caramels down to Kuro and Kama. "Here you are, dears..." They'd murmur; smiling warmly as the two dark types began to chow right down on the offered sweets. Next, they'd turn to Josh and his pokemon; offering the bag, so that Josh could take a handful if he wanted. "Here, you and your darlings can have some soft caramels, too, if they'd like." Makoto offered with a warm smile.
By the time the caramels had been handed out to everyone though, the Stantler would already be coming forward to try and shove her muzzle in the ziploc bag once more! Makoto, laughing, would gently push the deer pokemon's head back a little. "Now, now; too many sweets would make you sick, darling!" They'd lightly scold the Stantler, already going to put the ziploc bag away. Although...
... After a moment of thought, Makoto would pull out a pokeball, to offer to the Stantler. "If you want more sweets in the future, though, you can always come with me; I'd love to make more for you sometime, if you'd come with." Nest Ball, go!

Twilight cooed toward Makoto one more time before they backed off - it would be as much of a gesture of approval as they would get. "You're a quick learner - that's exactly why I'm not worried about her claws getting worn down when she races," Josh smiled back; he couldn't help but let out a yawn after having traveled so long. "They'll grow back in a hurry." They didn't grow back extraordinarily fast, but it seemed to be on a timetable of weeks, instead of the months it took for others' claws and nails to grow back - especially those of humans. "I won't be able to enter her in a race for the next couple of weeks, but I won't need her - my next race is in Ivy Town, and it's a water one. I'm planning on entering Resheph - she's right on the cusp of evolving. You might even get to see her do it today!"
Makoto's eyes seemed to be drawn to Twilight's horn after they replied to the phenomenon Josh mentioned. "It's only been known since Absol were heavily captured - you don't get to see it in the wild because of how wary they are. The hardness of their horn varies with their mood. If an Absol is affectionate, its horn is soft as a pillow. If one is serious, upset, or of course in battle, it's harder and sharper than a cut gemstone. Some Absol actually like being pet on their soft horns. Twilight isn't one of them, though - it only took getting a cut from it once to figure that out." As if on cue, she raised her head and briefly closed her eyes, her horn hardening and reflecting the bright light of the sun.
Josh listened intently to Makoto's description of what it was like to raise a Zoroark. "Sounds like a handful. Not to say I don't have Pokémon that are a handful - I'm sure every trainer has one like that - but..." he trailed off before laughing alongside the punch line of her carrying a rock with a black tail. "...Point taken." Twilight shrugged. "What's up, girl?" the rider asked, to a response of the Absol pointing her horn directly at a pair of wilds, an Igglybuff and a Smeargle, having what appeared to be a friendly competition of some kind. If it was a battle, it didn't look like a serious one. The white quadruped gave the two a wide berth, moving on up the road.
"Huh, that's interesting...how many different ways specialty Poké Balls can be made," Josh replied to the notion of cooking Apricorns. "Back in Johto, there's this Poké Ball crafter by the name of Kurt. When I took the Gym Challenge on there, he was running a small business where he and two generations of kids made Poké Balls from Apricorns with craftsman's tools. Eventually his business got so big that he sold most of it to a subsidiary of Silph. You know, that Kanto-based conglomerate? Now everyone in the family are multi-millionaires from collecting on their patents."
The gate to Cork was plainly visible down the northward-leading flat road. "Alright, try to keep an eye on us!" Josh leaned low on Twilight, as though the two were racing. "Alright, let's go!" The Absol broke off into a brisk run, following the road before breaking off into the grassy field to their left. As it looked like the two were about to crash into a tree, the two swerved back toward the road with great agility, kicking up quite a bit of grass and dirt in the process. She followed it up with three more quick turns before slowing to a stop near the gate and facing Makoto, Twilight tilting her head toward the sky and smiling. She must have been in a really good mood!

Ivy Town? "That's a ways away from here," Makoto idly commented. Right across the mountains to the west, and over the waters. "Though I imagine that it's a hop, skip, and a jump away for you, darling; especially when you've got plenty of flying pokemon to carry you around." They'd add with a brief chuckle; smiling a little. It'd be unlikely that they'd be able to see Josh's race, given how far away Ivy town is, but... Perhaps if they kept an eye on the television, they'd be able to catch that water race?
In any case.... "I'd be honored to see Resheph evolve, though, if she does manage to evolve today." Makoto would add with a smile, adding "Seeing one's darlings evolve is always a wonderful experience, and Dragonairs are quite beautiful." It made them wonder, just when their own pokemon would start evolving as well. They already had a good few pokemon, after all..!
As Josh mentioned Zoroarks sounding like a handful, Makoto would chuckle and nod a little. "For sure; though if you're creative, you can teach all sorts of different tricks to a Zoroark. They can even hold conversations with people, using their illusions to speak like a human." They'd explain quite animatedly, smiling brightly. "Their power over illusions is such a fascinating ability, and I admire their intelligence - and their loyalty as well." For a moment, a hint of melancholy would cross over their expression. "When they bond with someone, they'll bond for life; and they'll weave their largest illusions and fight tooth and claw to protect those that they consider their pack."
At the subject of Kurt and his family though, Makoto would nod along quietly; a somewhat neutral expression. Though they'd comment on the family being multi-millionaires and hoping that that money is going to a good place, it was likely to lead to more divisive subjects; so, they held their tongue for the time being.
Instead, they'd be more focused on their newest catch; an Arcielan Stantler, which was quite the fascinating fella. As soon as the Nest Ball took, Makoto would let the Stantler out once more; looking the cervine pokemon over briefly. The Stantler would snort briefly, eyeing Makoto's handbag - knowing the sweet ambrosia that waited inside - but thankfully behaving this time, as Makoto ran a hand over her side. "Such a beautiful darling..." They'd muse out loud, smiling warmly. "I think I'll name you Yurei. How does that sound to you?"
Yurei, in response, would snort and nod; to which Makoto smiled warmly. Kama, as friendly as always, would wave and chitter to Yurei - to which the Stantler let out a low and gentle bellow in response. Kuro would slowly lean in close to sniff Yurei, though was quick to shy away when the Stantler glanced in his direction - scrunching down in Makoto's arms, to which the trainer chuckled sympathetically, and scratched his head. "There there... I know, she's quite big; but she's a friend, Kuro."
Which, speaking of big... Makoto couldn't help but briefly look Yurei up and down as they walked; the gears in their head turning. Huhm... "... Say, Josh darling; perhaps you could give me a few tips or pointers, to riding a pokemon?" They'd question, glancing in the racer's direction. "I'd love to give riding Yurei a try sometime, if the dear is willing." Yurei, in response, would only give Makoto a quiet and neutral look. It was hard to say how she felt for sure, but a Ghost type probably had her ways of protesting, Makoto figured, if she wasn't in the mood to carry someone around.
Before long though, it seemed that the gate to Cork town was soon looming in the distance; and with this, Josh was ready to show off with Twilight! As the Absol sprinted off, Makoto would continue to slowly walk along the road to watch the duo race about; visibly impressed at just how agile she was, running about the area. When they would soon come to a stop near the gate, Makoto would applaud with a warm laugh; brightly smiling. "That was an impressive display, darlings! I can easily see why Josh would trust you on the more twisty tracks, Twilight dear."
As Makoto praised the duo, though... A certain little Impidimp would be creeping along, sneaking up on the assembled group slowly but surely. In particular, the little wily pokemon seemed to be sneaking up on Kama; getting up close to the Sneasel... And suddenly yanking on his feathered tail! Poor Kama, in response, would let out a sudden squeaky yelp; whirling around to face the wild pokemon! The Impidimp, in response, would proceed to fall backwards and begin to cackle; and though Kama looked ready to prepare his claws to fight this mischievous little upstart...
... It seemed that the Meinfoo - Tachi - would be the one to confront the Impidimp, coming straight out of his pokeball! Tachi would let out a sharp and challenging cry, which seemed to get the Impidimp's attention; the wild pokemon rolling back up onto his feet, and near-immediately charging forward with a Fake Out! Tachi, however, was able to avoid the attack with ease with Detect; sidestepping around the Impidimp, and striking at it with Pound! The Impidimp would be sent tumbling a short distance; but in getting up, it would attempt to lunge at Tachi with a Bite, to try and flinch him...!
It would be here now that Makoto would decide to take control of the fight - ready to command Tachi. "Power up with Meditate, darling; then give the Impidimp another smack with Pound!" With the Meinfoo's Inner Focus though, it seemed to be to no avail. In fact, even as the Impidimp tried to bite him again, Tachi would tank the attack so as to Meditate, and then retaliate with a powered-up Pound! Again, the Impidimp would squeal and be sent tumbling a short distance away; hurt, but still quick to stand back up with a light growl. However, this wasn't the last trick up its sleeve. Grinning deviously, the Impidimp would begin chattering at Tachi with Flatter, aiming to confuse the Meinfoo!
And confused he was; swelling a bit with pride at the Impidimp's flattery, Tachi would dart forward to strike at it with a few Pounds in repetition - and though the first couple would land without trouble.... By the last one, Tachi would - by mistake - strike his paw into a rather sturdy looking boulder behind the Impidimp, and yowl in pain! Makoto, seeing that the Impidimp's Flatter was going to cause issues, couldn't help a wince. It was clear that this fight likely should end soon, for Tachi's sake...
... And what better way to end a fight, than to try to catch yet another pokemon? Pulling out another pokeball, Makoto would lob it at the Impidimp; hoping to catch yet another Dark type for their team. Nest Ball letsa go-

When Makoto noted how not-to-far Ivy Town would be for a trainer who had flying Pokémon, Josh paused awkwardly, his hand on his chin. He was stunned! Once they had brought Resheph's evolution up, the racer regained his composure. "Right - when she evolves, that'll be my ticket to the skies. I can't wait!" he replied, faking excitement that had been drained out of him when they indirectly brought to his attention he had no way to fly. "Like Bladestorm would tolerate me on her back right now," he mumbled, loud enough for Makoto to hear if they were listening closely.
So Zoroark illusions were not only visual, but they were auditory too? What a valuable Pokémon to have in the wilds! Though it didn't seem like they were well-suited for races, particularly since they were bipeds, they were some of the most versatile Pokémon out there. "I might have to try finding one myself," he replied, nodding at every one of their points until they were done. When asked about riding pointers, Josh perked up. "It's getting a bit late for that today, but another day...maybe even tomorrow if you're up for it, I could give you a crash course. It's not as hard as you think."
Though Josh could hear Makoto's applause, he wasn't able to hear their commentary - by the time the two had caught up, Josh was already involved in a fast-paced trainer battle, having dismounted Twilight so she could do what she did best: tear up opposing Pokémon with her deadly claws. Even in their dulled state, they were more than capable of rending the soft skin of a Noctowl like the one the young trainer had...and with the kind of speed she had, she was quick to take the initiative, creating an X-shape of slashes across the Noctowl's chest. With its last few breaths before collapsing, the bird put up a psychokinetic shield around the rest of the young one's team - the chance he needed to take down the Absol.
Twilight was quick to repeat the same pattern of slashes on the next Noctowl, this one a rime-feathered variant of the familiar Johto bird. This one had a trick up its sleeve, though - flapping its wings toward the attacking Absol, it surrounded her with a localized blizzard that encased her in ice! With Blinky having no electric-type moves and Josh's only other battle-ready Pokémon being Nitro, he conceded the remainder of the match to the young traveler, snapping a photo of the strange Noctowl with the other trainer's consent.
Mod note: Josh defeated only one of the trainer's Pokémon before conceding the match. Handle rewards at your discretion.

"I don't mind hanging around Cork for a couple days for a crash course," Makoto would agree to Josh's offer with a gentle nod, smiling warmly. "I imagine it isn't too hard, as you said; though I also imagine that someone as well-versed in riding pokemon as you seem to be would have a few good tips and tricks to share." Makoto mused out loud, scratching their cheek with a light chuckle. If they had the opportunity to learn from someone who knows more about riding pokemon, might as well learn from them, they figured!
Before long though, came the fight against the Impidimp; which, thankfully, would soon come to an end. With the imp pokemon caught, Tachi would stagger a little, slumping and panting; to which Kama would approach, chittering in concern. The Mienfoo's mind clearing of any confusion, he'd glance in Kama's direction, before waving the Sneasel off - as if to insist he's fine. When he'd wince from standing upright though, Makoto stepped in; kneeling down next to Tachi. "Darling; you've had two big fights today. I think it's time you settle down for a bit, okay...?" They'd firmly, yet sympathetically, state; taking Tachi's pokeball out, and offering it to the Mienfoo. "Get some rest, dear; we can take some time to get to know each other once we hit up a pokecenter, okay?"
Tachi, in response, would quietly stare at the ball; as if he hoped that his gaze was as physically sharp as it looked. After a few long moments, though... The Meinfoo would soon relent, much to Kama and Makoto's relief; returning to his pokeball, so that he could get some rest. Makoto, standing up, would pat Kama on the head - "You're such a sweetheart, worrying over Tachi like that..." They'd praise; smiling brightly as the Sneasel chittered happily in response.
Turning their attention back to Josh, they'd see as his fight with another trainer wrapped up - poor Twilight seeming to have been frozen at some point in the fight, by the Arcielan Noctowl most likely. A rather beautiful specimen, Makoto had to say; briefly admiring her as Josh took a photograph. Another pokemon would soon draw Makoto's attention, though; in the form of a large Pidgey, perched up on a nearby branch! While the bird pokemon didn't necessarily appeal to them, perhaps...
"... Josh, darling," Makoto would call to Josh, to get his attention. "Would you be interested, if I caught that Pidgey up there for you? A big enough Pidgeot seems like it'd be a nice ride pokemon for you." As they made the offer, Makoto would pull out another pokeball - a Nest Ball - in preparation, thinking to themself on who would be good to fight the Pidgey. Perhaps... "... Would you be alright with taking on this Pidgey, Kuro darling?" Makoto would ask their Zorua - to which Kuro would slowly nod, and hop down from their arms.
Once Josh gave the okay, Kuro would be off - leaping partway up the tree that the Pidgey was perched in, and digging his claws into it for grip as he kicked off of it, to Scratch at the Pidgey! The bird pokemon, in response, would squawk in surprise as he was struck; attempting to retaliate with a quick Gust, though Kuro was able to dance just out of the way...! The Pidgey, in turn, would attempt to back away to gain the advantage; but Kuro was faster, using Pursuit to close the gap between them as he tackled into the bird, and knocked the Pidgey down into a pin...!
The Pidgey, seemingly tenacious and unwilling to back down easily, would kick up a Sand Attack with his wings; briefly blinding Kuro as he yelped, and backed away to rub at his eyes with his paws. Seeing an opening, the Pidgey dove down into a Tackle - bashing into Kuro, and being able to disengage just in time to avoid a blind Scratch from the Zorua! Once Kuro was able to find his bearings though, he would proceed to Leer at the Pidgey - causing the bird to flinch - and follow up with a Pursuit that just narrowly struck the Pidgey...!
Deciding now was a good of time as any, Makoto would throw the Nest Ball - hoping to catch the Pidgey for Josh - as Kuro backed off, to pant and catch his breath. As he heavily breathed though, something would soon catch his attention - something that neither Makoto, nor Yurei, or Kama noticed.
There was... A scent in the air. Something that had Kuro unable to help excitedly sniffing the air, trying to pinpoint where it was coming from. Makoto, surprised at this sudden change in behavior, would tilt their head a little. "What's got your attention, Kuro..?" They'd ask - glancing around, to see if they could spot what had the young Zorua so curious... Nest Ball, Go! (Goes to Josh if this catches)

Josh smiled when Makoto accepted his offer to mentor them. "It's not as hard as you would--yep. And once you learn how to do it, you'll feel like the free-est person in the world!" At least that's how he felt his first few times on a Pokémon back when he was in Johto. "Once you have a Pokémon that can carry you across the land, one across the sea, and one through the air, there's nowhere you can't go." He released Resheph, the curious, young dragon flying figure-eights near the town's gate.
After Josh's losing trainer battle, Makoto brought up the idea of catching the oversize Pidgey for him. "I'd be thrilled!" he answered a bit louder than expected. "Tell you what. If you can catch it, I'll consider it tuition for you!" he sheepishly smiled, unable to contain his excitement. "Did I tell you Pidgeot was the first Pokémon I ever flew on back when I was a teenager? They're great Pokémon to learn with. Being a racer, I'm in regular contact with a breeder specifically for breeding Pokémon adept at racing. I could easily get you one of the litter that doesn't fit my criteria."
As Josh was gawking up a storm about a Pokémon as common as Pidgey, something sliced at Resheph from behind...and hard. The trainer heard a Pokémon cry that sounded much like Kuro's...except deeper. The wounded Dratini turned around to see...another Dratini laughing at her. Wait, Dratini using Night Slash. That wasn't right. Could it be?
Resheph was mad. In her anger, a royal purple glow enveloped her, the floating serpent growing well over double her previous size. A strong wind blew away from her in all directions, the purple light fading after the wind howled for almost half a minute. Resheph had assumed the form of a breathtaking Dragonair, whose glow shifted from purple to red-orange in an Outrage. She flailed all over the wild Dratini, who was actually a Zoroark, writing with enough power to tear up the dirt and grass underneath them.
Josh rolled his eyes. He didn't really want a Zoroark on his team...but now his hand had been forced. If anything, he could learn how to ride one for when he was in the wilds. They were really fast, but they couldn't maintain that speed long enough to run most races. He threw a Great Ball at the Zoroark and crossed his fingers...
