"Ok Janus, we've got our job. Ready to do some work?" Marley said, as he watched his Doduo shift the mail bag Marley had draped over him. After all, earning a quick buck or two was always a good thing for an up and coming trainer like himself. And when you have a pokemon as fast footed as Janus here, well, that just made the job all the more funner. The bird's twin heads nodded, letting out a small squark of confirmation.
Marley nodded, pulling out the list of addresses. "Ok then. Our first stop is...Hey, I know this place. It's near that diner Mum likes. Ok, I think you know the way there. Let's do this!" The two of them took off into a run. Naturally, with Janus being a, well, a doduo, the bird pokemon was easily taking the lead. But Marley wasn't going to take this the easy way. He was going to run alongside his buddy.

Marley found himself able to keep up pretty well with Janus as they reached the first mailbox. Well, sort of. The bird still managed to beat him there, but Marley hadn't been too far behind. "Ok, now then, what we're looking for is right...here!" Marley rummaged through the bag before pulling out the mail. A long, thin envelop. Probably bills or something like that. Whatever it was, it was none of Marley's business. He slipped it into the box without a word.
Now then, for the next piece. This one was a package. He looked at the address before he paused. "Wait a minute...this is for me Mum!" What had his mother ordered? This was certainly curious. He was half tempted to open it, but stopped himself. Even if it was his mum's mail, he'd still respect her privacy and not open it. "Ok, let's get going Janus!" he said, before the two took off running.
Of course, logic would dictate making it to your own mother's house shouldn't be too much of a problem. Right? Well, there's a Purrugly that thinks differently. He also thinks your Doduo looks tasty and starts chasing the poor bird.
He had heard of cats trying to eat birds, but why the hell did this one think it was a good idea to take a crack at a bird much bigger than it? As the Purrugly chased after Janus, Marley's eyes bulged in anger. "Oi! You leave my damn buddy alone!" he yelled out, chasing after it in turn. While he had difficulty keeping up with his Doduo, keeping up with a chunky feline was much easier. With a loud yell, he dove at the cat, tackling it to the ground. What followed next was a small dust cloud of biting and scratching, as the Purrugly fought back against this strange human that was attacking it. Janus stood off to the side, watching the fight, getting ready to jump in if need be.
After a few minutes, the Purrugly, deciding that chasing the Doduo wasn't worth all this, broke off and ran away, leaving Marley covered in scratched as he stood up. He got to his feet, dusting himself off. "Well then...let's continue on, shall we?"
With the Purugly gone, there was nothing preventing Marley and Janus making their way to their place. Package in hand, the Galarian walked up to the door and knocked.
His mother's head poked out, her eyes lighting up when she saw him. "Marley! It's good to see you, how are yo-Holy hell what happened to you?" Marley gave a small chuckle. He hadn't exactly come out of that fight with the Purugly without getting scratched up himself. "Got into a little fight on the way here. Mangey cat tried to take on Janus here." Mrs. Hyde sighed. "Well, yer lucky it wasn't even worse. Now come inside and let me patch you up."
Marley blinked. "Erm, I would, but me and Janus have got some mail to deliver and..." Mrs. Hyde looked down at the package in his hand. "That for me?" "Yeah." She plucked the package out of his hand. "There. Mail delivered. Now come inside and let your mum patch you up." Marley sighed. "Mum," Marley said, "I've got some more mail to deliver. Look, how about I deliver one more piece of mail, and then I come back." Mrs. Hyde thought for a moment. "Ok, fine. But be quick about it."
Marley nodded and turned to Janus, reaching into the pack to pull out another piece of mail. "Alright, let's go buddy!" Glancing at the address, the pair of them took off.

Well, that went by a lot faster than Marley had hoped. Really, he could go out and deliver some more, try to earn some extra money, but at the same time, he knew his mother was waiting for him, and Marley, despite his rugged appearance and personality, loved his mother. He wasn't going to disobey her like that, especially since she wanted to do what was best for him.
Without any need to rush, Marley and Janus took their sweet time. They stopped by the post office, leaving the bag and collecting their payment, before heading down to Marley's home. As he approached the door and knocked, it opened to reveal his mother, who had been waiting for him. "Ok, are you finished with the mail?" she asked. Marley gave a small chuckle. "Yeah, we're done now." Mrs. Hyde smiled warmly. "Good, now come on in for a bite to eat, and I'll get you cleaned up."
Marley couldn't help but smile as he stepped inside.
