Celadon City, Kanto
Tell us a little about yourself. How would you describe yourself?
"My name's Nessarose Hampton, though you can call me Nessa for short. I'm-well, I guess the most interesting thing about me is that my moms are co-owners of Shooting Star Studios in Celadon? If you haven't heard about it, that's fine-we're mostly locally famous. And I guess I'm the most adventurous one in our family-my moms have pretty much stayed around Celadon since they arrived in Kanto, and Timmy's a big mama's boy. But I wanted to see more, which is why I'm heading out here now, after all."
Why are you interested in the class you've chosen?
Nessa grins. "Well, my moms are both coordinators, you know, so of course I want to follow in their footsteps. I really like performing on stage, and I want to get a chance to broaden my horizons and tell people about my hometown's contest hall. Keep an eye out for me on the broadcasts!" She gives the interviewer a wink.
Why are you interested in training in Arciel? Why not another region?
"Well, I heard there were quite a lot of deals for newcomers, so I naturally wanted to take advantage of them!" Nessa tilts her head to the side with an innocent smile. "Plus, some of my friends wanted to come along, and this was the only place we could agree on." Of course, that wasn't the real reason she wanted to come to this place. The best way to fight against the menace of the Beast Ball was from within the region, after all.
What do you consider your best attributes? They can be physical, mental, social, or anything else.
"Well, I think I'm a pretty talented Coordinator and performer, but I guess we'll have to wait for the actual judges here to decide that, right?" Nessa leans back casually in her chair. She also thinks she's doing fairly well at hiding her true opinions about the Beast Ball. Of course, saying that out loud would defeat the purpose of it. "Plus I like to think I'm a pretty friendly girl, too." It wasn't just an act, either, despite her intentions for this region. She really does want the best for everyone here, even if she thinks the people hosting the tournament going about it the wrong way. That's why her first plans are going to be handling things as legally as possible, instead of going straight to trying to heist the Beast Ball. She wants to believe she can solve this through talking and communicating, and she's probably the best one in the group for it.
What do you consider your worst attributes? Be honest, now!
"Oh, I'm not sure if anyone can be honest about that so easily," says Nessa, rubbing the back of her neck as if embarrassed. "I guess...I argue with my family a lot more these days? Our last argument was about me leaving the region, actually. I'd barely managed to get my moms to agree to a journey...they worry so much, even though I can't really blame them." Vera and Sasha had always been overprotective, as war refugees, but the Ultra Beast attack had definitely made them even more constantly worried about her safety. The fact that she was planning on protesting the Beast Balls themselves hadn't helped at all. And, well, if you asked Cassius, he'd probably add that she had a bit of a blind spot about her own ability to pull this off. He'd always worried a bit that she was too proud about what she could do, and too stubborn about what she wanted. But they weren't asking Cassius, were they?
What was your childhood like? How was school?
"It's pretty accurate to say I grew up in the theater, actually. My moms basically homeschooled me, and we lived above the studio for a while. So I got a lot of experience watching contests firsthand. I even got to judge a few!" Her score hadn't been a heavy factor in the final judging, of course, but most of the contestants had been charmed anyways. One of them had even asked for her autograph afterwards-maybe in jest, but it was still a fond memory for her. "Eventually Uncle Garrith showed up and he was able to help with things a bit more, so I started going to normal school around the time I turned eight." She doesn't bring up the tears from Vera when she hugged Garrith and fussed over his missing leg, or Sasha's worried questions about the war. "It was actually fairly normal, since by then the studio'd been around long enough people weren't really gawking at us anymore. And that's also when I met my best friend Cassius. His dad was a Ranger, so they didn't stay long, but we kept in touch even after that. And he introduced me to Columba and Celandine, the other members of the group." She chuckles a bit. "It's a shame I'm the odd name out in our little quartet."
How is your relationship with your family?
"Ah, well...I love them a lot, you know? And I think we get along okay. I know I said I argue a lot, but most of the time we work things out in the end. Like I said, they let me come here even if they're worried. Plus I definitely plan on keeping in touch with them." She waves her phone at the interviewer's face. "There's no way I'm going to cut any of them off!"
What do you like to do for fun?
Nessa smile and holds up her contest outfit. "I like to sew! I actually made this myself. It took me a long time and I had a lot of practice beforehand, but it was really great to see the final outcome like that. And it fits perfectly!"
What are your feelings on romance?
Nessa blushes at that, twining her hair around one finger. "Is...is that really necessary for entry? I...I guess I haven't thought about it...much? Maybe...someday...if I...meet the right girl?"
What are your goals for the future? Short-term and long-term.
"I pretty much already said, right? I plan on challenging all the Contest Halls here as soon as I can. And of course, I plan on spreading the word about Shooting Star Studios. You guys aren't the only people who are hoping for more visitors, after all."
If you could be a Pokemon, what species or typing would you choose and why?
"Oh man, that's so hard..." Her voice trails off as she thinks. "There's too many choices...I guess a Flying-type would be nice? It'd be really fun to fly on my own instead of being carried around by one of my moms' Pokemon."
What do Pokemon mean to you?
"They're our best friends, if you treat them right. A coordinator's got to be really in sync with their Pokemon to do well in a performance-Jess has been with our family for a long time, but she still shines best when partnered up with Mom." Vera and Jess have been partners for a long time, after all-ever since she was a little Zubat. "I really hope Annie and I can develop a bond as strong as that."
Anything else you'd like to tell us about before you go?
"Is this being recorded? If it is-" Nessa stands up and strikes a pose, suddenly straightening up and looking much more confident, winking at a random direction in the room. "Visit Shooting Star Studios in Celadon!"
5'7" / 170cm
Nessa is dark-skinned, with a scattering of freckles across her face. She usually wears fairly bright colors, though her outfit designs are mostly practical for everyday journey wear. Of course, quite a few of her outfits have the Shooting Star Studios logo on them, since she has to rep the family business. For special occasions, of course, she's quite happy to dress up in much fancier costumes with even flashier color combinations.
Nessa's aura is fairly close to her skin, not extending out too far. There are occasional spikes around her arms and head when she gets excited, but most of the time it just moves around her skin like gentle winds. Her aura is mostly orange-yellow, though it occasionally shifts to red when she gets excited.
Skills, Abilities, & Notoriety
0 - Neutral
Nessa's family is from the Jamhu region, a place that was wracked by instability for a long time, though by now things have improved. Of Nessa's two moms, Vera was the one who fled the region first, before the war could get too bad and actually reach their hometown. Sasha came later, and it was a while after that before they got together and Nessa was born. She was never touched by the war personally, but heard a lot about it from them, and from Garrith when he showed up, having finally been discharged. Her family is considering taking a trip back to their home region someday, now that things are more stable there.
Nessa's mostly heard about Chimera through whispered rumors, and isn't quite sure about the full extent of their organization, or if they're even an actual organization or just a name for people sharing her opinion about the Beast Ball.
