Admittedly, the heat of summer wasn't the best time to practice flying Sol, Shalin's newly-evolved Volcarona, but she would appreciate the bug-type's warmth come winter. That was the precise reason she came out to the beginner's aerial course at such a late hour - it was so late that some of the place's external lights were already illuminated. Shalin didn't need them, though - the Volcarona glowed with enough light to illuminate his immediate surroundings. They could practice in the dead of night if they wanted to and still be fine - the tiny scales his wings launched could serve as makeshift headlights if need be.
Shalin took a deep breath before climbing into Sol's somewhat awkwardly-placed saddle - because of where his middle set of wings was, it was a little closer to the front than with her other Pokémon. "...I'm ready, Sol," she said, pointing forward and up. Sol nodded, his black-spotted wings disappearing into red blurs, the girl screaming for him to stop after a low drone pounded in her ears. "...I wasn't... expecting that!" she gasped, her hands over the side of her head as her ears were pounding. After a couple minutes, she popped her earplugs in, then repeated the command to take off.

Shalin let out another scream as Sol took to the air. While she couldn't hear the extremely low-pitched drone with her earplugs in, she could absolutely feel it. Though she was used to this kind of feedback from her Yanmega, this was on a whole different level of intensity. Three pairs of wings, vibrating fast enough to generate the lift needed to get them both in the air, rattled Shalin with more power than even Flit's takeoff, sending the girl sliding between his front pairs of wings and into the foam blocks below. Thankfully they were soft - that fall would have hurt if she was above solid ground!
The rider took a few heavy breaths before getting to her feet, then sitting back down on the blocks again. Just after her head had stopped ringing from the assault on her unprotected ears, she had taken that fall. "Gimme a few, Sol..." she slowly said, ending in a sigh. She ended up taking more than just a few - she watched a young couple train with a Scyther and a Noctowl. The Scyther piqued her interest - she daydreamed about flying on one for a while before Sol gently nudged her. "Right - let's try this again." She carefully climbed aboard again, this time with her earplugs on and bracing herself for takeoff again.

Third try's the charm, or so the saying goes. With ear protection in this time, Shalin pointed toward the ring course above her. Sol's wings disappeared into six red blurs, embers flying in all directions from scales alight. She squinted as the fire-type lifted off the ground, hovering to better allow Shalin to get used to his flight. The tingling from the Volcarona's beating wings was different, too - no surprise, given he flew on three pairs of wings instead of one. "Alright, let's fly up to the course, Sol!" Shalin commanded.
Sol picked up the pace, slowly gaining height and circling the course to build enough speed to the point where he could reliably complete it. Shalin was still squinting - this time not from pure focus, but almost in pain. Queen Zing's and Flit's wings all beat in the same direction, making the shaking one-directional and predictable. With Sol, adapting would be way different - he had three pairs of wings that each beat in slightly different directions. His body, likewise, shook in three different directions at once. Just as she was getting used to it, a stray Rock Throw from a nearby Archeops spooked Sol, prompting him to face the rock-type and vibrate at full power, as though trying to Bug Buzz the Pokémon away. The violent, chaotic shaking wrenched her off a second time, this time landing on her other shoulder. Even with the foam there, she could feel that one.

With both her shoulders at the very least mildly sore from the broken falls, Shalin again took several minutes to rest before climbing into Sol's saddle again. "Hey, Sol, can you just buzz in place so I can get used to it?" Embers again flying everywhere around Shalin, this time she let go of the Volcarona's reins, holding on with all four of her limbs. He gripped the ground the best he could to avoid taking off before the sound of low, droning wings filled the air around him. Apparently all it took was falling once - she was quickly getting the hang of riding a Volcarona's vibration. It was certainly more chaotic than either of her other bug-types, but nothing she couldn't handle. "Alright, let's try going up again!"
The glowing bug-type picked up speed and slowly ascended to the ring course's altitude. Once he had reached the optimal height, the droning and shaking stopped. Shalin peered to her left - while his red wings were still somewhat blurred, they had slowed down quite a bit. This would make practicing flight maneuvers much easier!

The longer she continued flying around the course, the more Shalin realized the only tough part, for both Sol and his rider, was getting airborne and up to speed. The shaking had ceased completely, Sol seemingly gliding through ring after ring. Shalin lifted her hands from the insect, grabbing the reins and practicing manual turning. She felt a small tingle from his rear wings helping out with the turn, but it went back to normal the moment he was out of the turn. "It's kind of...relaxing, almost," Shalin mused aloud as the two made one more gentle lap around the course. By the time they had landed, the training center was closing for the evening. Shalin recalled Sol and headed back, apologizing to the attendant for leaving so late.
